Hi,
I hope this is in the right section....
I have recently put the QTEK 1.6 Hero ROM on my Sapphire (UK MAGIC), and its ok but I preferred the stock ROM.
I have obviously done a nandroid backup using the RAV1.2.1G recovery image, using the one-click method (http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/29/how-to-root-the-htc-magic-in-one-click/).
I want to revert back to the stock ROM using my nandroid backup. I have follwed the instructions on these forums on how to do it, but I keep getting a problem.
I use the flashboot flash system system.img, it says sending, then writing, but when it comes to verifying info something or other, it says failed, something and something about unable to verify signature (happens on data and boot imgs too).
Is this something to do with SPL, do I need to update my SPL to restore, I have downloaded HARDSPL (version?) but have not gone any further as I dont want a brick....
Any help would be much appreciated.....
Thank you
If you were able to make a nandroid backup with your current SPL, then i assume thats not the problem.
Are you sure the files of your backup is still on your SD-card, and its (foldername "nandroid") location is root on SD-card..?
Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes the nandroid folder is on the root of the sdcard, i've managed to get it working. Very strange??
What I did was to ignore the windows way of restoring, I just booted into recovery and selected nandroid restore, pressed green and hey presto, it worked? Now I tried that before and it said use adb in windows... maybe i missed a file or didnt press something correctly, at least I have my stock and apps back now...
Will try tinkering again though...got to be done... QTEKs rom has a few bugs, want to try Cyanogens, but i cant find his rom anywhere (i realise the issues with google)
Then i guess your SD-card wasnt ready mounted the moment you tried to recover.
He didn't recover via recovery, but via SPL.
so, do 1clickroot again, but instead of flashing a rom in recovery, select: restore nandroid recovery.
What if
What if we never created a Nandroid backup of the OEM ROM from our phone?
Will we still be able to return to the original ROM if we'd like for warranty purposes? I have flashed a Hero ROM and the OEM Tmo for Root Users and AmonRA Recovery. I haven't flashed any Radios or SPLs or anything though.
Just curious, thanks.
I downloaded the Unroot IMage which is exactly the release I used to have, COC10, is this the ROM I need for warranty purposes?
i do not have a custom recover on the phone after i rooted it and have RA. what should i do? also i am stuck on the g1 screen thx.
well if its not reading the dream file then u dont have root...the dream file needs to be installed to gain root. i would go back into recovery wipe everything back to stock and go through the root process again. check the xda thread on how to do it...it is very detailed and will guide u on how its done properly. i used it and my g1 is working perfectly
dude i just re-read the post. first of all, how can you have Amon-RA recovery and say you have no custom recovery. Amon is a custom recovery. also, like i said earlier the dream file is what you need installed for root. it downgrades the phone to rc29 where the security hole was never patched. please re-write the post with more detail. what steps did u exactly do? when you go into recovery, what is shown on your screen? is it an exclamation point? if it is u dont have a custom recovery installed. your best bet is to wipe the phone and re-root, but please answer my questions first. im more than happy to help you out, but please give more detailed info. i mean step by step details from the beginning to the end

I had this problem couple days ago when rooting a g1, I had a bunch of files on my sdcard, so i formattted the sd and placed both dreaimg and update files again on sd, problem solved.

How to fix perfect SPL without Gold card. Include new 1.33.2013 SPL.
It’s possible to flash engineering SPLs, to replace your prefect SPL (1.33.2006, 1.33.2010, 1.33.2013, other) without Gold card. I did it on my 32B, sure method will work on 32A and other devices.
First short idea, then in steps.
First root your phone (soft root), then through Market download ROM Manager app, install Clockwork (or alternate Amon_RA) recovery, and immediately press boot into recovery. Phone will reboot into recovery, and now you can flash engineering SPL from SD card.
Now by steps
1. Download Engineering SPL from Amon_RA collection here. Put it (zip file) to your FAT32 formatted SD card. (1.33.2005 is common working)
2. Download newest version of SuperOneClick rooting program from here. Install program to your PC.
3. Connect phone, run program and use button Shell Root. This will soft root your phone. (Please read details instructions in program topic).
4. From phone, through Market, install 'ROM Manager' application. (Internet connection required).
5. Run app, press install Clockwork (or alternate Amon_RA) recovery. App will download latest recovery and install it. Immediately press boot to recovery.
6. Phone will boot into recovery, choose 'flash zip from SD' and choose your previously downloaded Engineering SPL.
7. After flash will ask to reboot, and choose reboot from menu.
8. After reboot phone will finish flashing SPL, and DONE!
NOW U can reboot into recovery yourself, by pressing 'HOME' + 'POWER' keys (from switched off phone). From recovery U can flash Radio, ROMS, do backup, etc.
If U would flash ROM, recommend to try Cyanogen MOD ROM first. There are detailed instructions for flashing on Cyanogen WIKI page.
If on step 6 phone not boot into Recovery, but showing splash screen with '!' sigh. Reboot phone and back to step 3 and go through steps again, but on step 5 flash OTHER recovery then used previously (Clockwork OR Amon_ra). Please keep in mind, (1) that Soft Root working until reboot, and (2) that You have to reboot into recovery immediately after flashing it. Other ways U have to start again, from step 3.
Would mention, that most ROMs not working with newest radio, and You have to flash old radio to ROMs start loading on your device.
Thanks to CLShortFuse, Amon_RA and all other developers.
After spending one day for SPL hack and flashing 12 different ROMs I've ended with recovering original latest Google ROM FR83D. Because no other could compare to fast and stable of original unrooted rom.
AMAZING!
This worked for me with the 2010 SPL for my MyTouch 3G 1.2. I don't know how or why, but this is amazing. I've bricked my phone from trying to change the SPL, and this worked perfectly. I think there is a simpler method to this though.
I got full root using Universal Androot, then flashed the stock +Rooted MyTouch 3G 1.2 ROM. If you do this, then you can start from step 6.
THIS IS AMAZING. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
when i flash the recovery and boot into it just goes to the green mytouch splash screen and does nothing.. if i try to boot into recovery manually with power and home it goes to the black screen with the exclamation triangle and a phone...
Thanks, it works with me.
Regards.

So I tried flashing a new SPL following this method. I got softroot and installed Amon Ra's recovery via ROM Manager. I then booted into recovery and flashed Engineering SPL 1.33.2010 (seemed like the newest version) now my phone is stuck in a boot loop.
I can get into recovery but the phone will not boot into the OS or anything.
Prior to this, my HBOOT was 1.33.0013 (the one that came with the official 2.2.1 update from T-Mobile)
Any thoughts on how I could fix this? This isn't my primary phone since I have a G2 but I would like to get my old MyTouch3G to work.
----UPDATE----
I got into fastboot (forgot that I needed to hold the back button) and I see that HBOOT is now 1.33.2010 and I have S-OFF. Is there some incompatibility with my radio (shows 2.22.29.25) and this HBOOT?
After SPL flash U have to flash ROM and some times radio too. New ROMs will not work with older SPLs and new radios some time not work with some ROMs. So, flash new ROM from Recovery.
I would recommend to flash Cyanogen MOD ROM for first try. There are detailed instructions for flashing on Cyanogen WIKI page? dont flash SPL, because U already did, start from step ROM flash.
Good luck

Error occurred while attempting to run priveledged commands
Rogers HTC Magic
pvt 32a
spl: 1.76.0010 (50000)
radio: 6.35.16.19
build:3.54.631.4
I run soft root on superoneclick and it says I'm rooted. Installed Rom Manager. Attempted to 'Flash ClockworkMod' and got the following message: 'An Error occurred while attempting to run priveledged commands'. Re-ran Superoneclick and it says device is already rooted. Any ideas?

Well that was helpful...
... NOT.
I mean, duh, I know how to search, and it's not in the first page, so it must be a really old ROM or it doesn't has FR83D in the name.
Can someone please post a link on how one goes about rooting their phone now that superoneclick does not work after GB update? I didn't root before the update, and just tried to go through the process but to no avail. I really want to start flashing roms and unlock the power of the phone now that I have seen GB.
correct me if im wrong but i think you need to flash a rom that has root already.
as of right now you cannot root GB.
Run nvflash from the Dev section. Follow the instructions closely. There is a video available. Then flash xboarders rom. Then you will have a rooted updated rom.

First, download the rooted GB 2.3.3 ROM and copy it onto your SD card
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179748
You won't be able to root with Superoneclick or any other rooting app. The easiest and fastest way to go about this is to flash CWM via NV flash.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
After flashing CWM reboot in recovery mode and flash the rooted ROM and voila!
You have the newest baseband and a rooted GB phone.
P.S. To be honest, I think the only reason that makes it worth going through all this trouble is being able to flash the new baseband on your phone.
Good Luck!

That is the easiest way to get root access.
Thank you all! So I'll be able to flash CM7 after this?
Also, I would assume devs are working on a way to use superoneclick, am I wrong?

I keep seeing this same reply and wondering... Can't someone make the necessary root files a flashable zip and then we don't have to flash a whole ROM to attain root?
Actually, so far they can't. The way you get root on your phones is by finding a security exploit so you can write a few files, and busybox simlinks to the system. Then, it installs superuser. No roms are rooted on android by default (well, stock ones anyways.) Since all the current methods to root a gingerbread rom don't work on the new update, this is the only way to do it for now.
so, as the title implies, i was successfully downgraded to 2.2, used z4root to temp root and used ROM Manager to flash CWM recovery.
i am able to boot into android just fine, but when i try to boot to recovery, it hangs at the HTC screen.
i've tried flashing recovery twice within ROM Manager with the same result.
any ideas?

Can you boot into Bootloader? What does it say? Does it say S-Off? Are you certain you rooted properly? You can use [Win32 Tool]GUI Root with Check and Recovery, otherwise know as ShiftRRv1.0 . It will check and confirm if your rooted. It will also root your device if you so want, and install recovery. Have used it several with Zero issues . Just connect your device via USB, and follow the prompts.

Definitely does not have s-off. He needs to do the misc.img trick and hold volume down button with PG06IMG.zip on the card. This has happened to me a bunch of times. He flashed CWM with temproot. z4root doesn't work on shift.
