I.m using opera mini 5 and this version of skyfire..... opera mini is fast to browse and skyfire is good forr watching online video... perfect combination for me

For Internet browsing I always used Opera Mobile 9.7. Opera Mobile 10 doesn't load some inportant images when browsing (ew. verification codes) and for videos I use youtubeplay and vTap. Can anyone post some screenshots of this Skyfire version?

Opera 10 Beta b
Played with it since release. Beautiful work, would love to keep it, unfortunately it takes over 10Mb on install and clashes with pretty much everything I have, but the main culprit might be SPB MS. Will try it on bare OS install only before issuing bug report. On a first reset the device either freezes or SPB MS fails to load, or loads, but ceases at some point. Other programs fail to start, namely Pocket Player and Google Maps. I have 128Mb device, so it's not memory issue. I don't play Youtube vids due to data being expensive, so that aspect won't bother me, however, if the same conflicts persist, will have to part with 10 and go back to 9.5 that worked without problems. Which would be a shame, seeing v10 is quite spectacular and feature-full.

I have 64mb and it's often automatically closes due to not enough memory. I think it needs about 24mb free program memory. When sms come or something theres no chance to avoid closing Skyfire. At all it's much better than older one.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKoA-Fvr3Js&feature=player_embedded

I very much like skyfire now it has VGA.
However I still prefer using Opera (I'm using v10 with no problems) - I don't use SPB MS.

An update
It seems I found the perfect match - Tomal 8.9, SPB MS and Opera 10 beta, running it for the past few days and it seems to work well and is fairly stable. On first install everything runs fine, but I had problems getting data connection after the very first reset - connected fine the first time, no connection at all afterwards. At some point I re-flashed, but got the same problem, so thought I'd have to give up on the idea altogether. What do you know - I found the culprit! It's Tomal's SRS Wow!!!! The little bugger creates all sorts of havoc in different combinations. Removed and had a smooth sailing ever since. The only bug so far is inability to change theme colors within SPB MS, but i think someone else in one of the threads complained about the same problem, I have a feeling it might be just a small issue of Tomal 8.9 + SPB MS. No biggie, glad to have everything I like running.

On a different note
Another winning combo was Tomal's 8.2 + SPB MS + Opera 9.5, no go with Opera 10. But Tomal's 8.9 is more economical in terms of program memory, which is possibly the reason Opera 10 works, I have about 21Mb left after everything I need is installed and spread through flashdisk, device and SD, while with 8.2 I was left with something along the lines of 9Mb - ridiculous and the reason I tried 8.9 to begin with!
What needed now is a patch to enable Opera 10 SD install.

Opera 10 still has some problem in rendering. Some of my favorite sites are terrible in version 10 beta. However, they are rendering correct in 9.7.
I'm using Opera 9.70.35627.0 at the moment and loving it....

Opera 10 is still in beta, there might be improvements coming before final release. I had no problems with any site rendering, so can't comment. Can't remember why I uninstalled 9.7, probably the same old issue of me wanting things that refused to be together
I also have Picsel for Samsung just in case any of my browsers suddenly cease on me and I have to use PIE, which I absolutely hate.

HIYA mate I like dis skyfire but my uni gives up every 2 mins coz there is not enuff memory is there anyway can I get around dis probz ! Thanks

NetFront Browser v3.5 Concept Version

Hi Guys!
Has anyone of you already tested the new NetFront Browser v3.5?
I just downloaded and played around with it a little while and I must admit it's as good as Opera 9.5.
In fact I think it's a little bit better because it works cleaner. It doesn't fill the memory of the Universal in the way as Opera does.
So please try out and post your experiences.
Thanx
Yes, i've tried it too, in my opinion NetFront is much better then Opera, works very fast and with no lag. Other good think is, that it works also from SD card
Yes you're right man
After a long intensive use of Opera I mostly had to reboot my Uni.
And the NetFront is much better adjustable, I think.
i been using Netfront 3.5 form the week it come out and i love it, it's faster and better than Opera 9.5, PIE 6.1, Picsel 1.2 or any other browser i've used. Obviouly it's my default browser, and it's just awsome.
It takes longer than IE to load and uses more memory, but...
It renders *A LOT* better and is much faster and less processor hungry
I'd strongly recommend it if you are doing any web browsing
Can someone post a link?
I am willing to try it, but where?
Gracias

Just been trying this one myself, having used earlier versions of NetFront pretty extensively in the past.
Certainly no where near as fast to load as Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta, but I do think it is faster than PIE (maybe about the same as Opera Mobile 8.65). The upside for me is that it seems to be far more stable than any of the leaked/hacked versions of the Opera Mobile currently around. The downside, and it is a pretty big one for my usage, is that it can only download one file at a time and while it is downloading you cannot even continue surfing. I use my browser quite a lot for downloading mp3s and music clips and this is a big handicap.

Well - I have the opposite experience.
I was using the 'older' NetFront 3.5 for *ages* before Opera 9.5 Betas started to arrive, and at first found Opera 9.5 unusable.
But - the latter builds - 1006 & 1123 - have both been great.
I tried switching back to NetFront when the new version came out (and posted in General ), but was continually having "not enough memory" errors from NetFront. I just don't get that from Opera.
So - for me at least, Opera 9.5 1123 is the one for the moment.

I tried to install the latest version to the smartphone emulator and it starts and look corrupt. Does look OK when placed in fullscreen mode, though (softkeys and menus are usable).
Didn't seem to be able to browse the internet, though it may well be an emulator issue with my local network config.
I like this but I get too many certificate and DNS errors popping up, so much so that I have to use Opera Mobile 9 instead as - much as it is prone to being unstable - it does at least work properly.

best browsing experience on touch pro

hey guys, i was thoroughly disappointed with opera mobiles performance.. it really sucked (for me at least). Page would take a long time to open, and the windows would move all over the place while the page was loading, etc. Anyways, i finally decided to download opera mini and its a world of a difference, its amazing! however to do it correctly, follow this guys advise:
http://mobilitysite.com/2008/06/running-opera-mini-41-on-windows-mobile-2/
dont just go to operamini.com and download the version they tell you, because then you have to agree to that message everytime you go to a page. if you do it the way this guy says, you only have to give permission the first time you open opera. he also shows you a way to have it as a program, eliminating the need to open the jbed java app to launch from there.
another thing i did, is because our device is vga, the font was small. i set it to extra large, and its very good. even the scrolling is much better on the mini version, and ITS MUCH FASTER!! i cant emphasize the last one enough. anyways, just wanted to let u guys know, good luck
ps: also, something that is huge for me, typing something into a webpage is also much better now. on opera mobile, i would have to try to fit the screen size so i can see what i'm typing; with opera mini, it opens a new window for you to t ype in, it's like your typing in word or something. makes a huge difference IMO
omar
I couldn't agree more.
Unless something is wrong with just my phone, I can't see how anyone would like Opera Mobile.
Just open any forum page here. Probably takes 20-30 seconds to load on Opera Mobile on a fast Wifi connection...and that's after it takes 5-10 seconds to just load up.
Do it on Opera Mini and it takes maybe 2 on a 1x connection, even.
Opera Mini doesn't have tabs, but you are saving so much time elsewhere, that's livable.
It also runs through a proxy, so I guess you could get stale pages or https stuff won't work great.
But, for 95% of the browsing I do, Mini works perfectly and is unbelievably fast and it's clear on the vga screen.
I also chose Extra Large fonts.
If you decide to use Opera Mini, here's a way to make it the "default" for opening links.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=384271
Have you guys tried the newer version of Skyfire? If so, do you like Mini better?
ya i use mini much more than mobile
btw just download this zip, extract cab and install it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=113596&d=1221663410
it will ask if u want to make mini default browser...also installs java if u dont have it.
i change my image quality to high and font to biggest settings
I'm using UCWEB6 and I'm quite satisfied. Fast enough, tabbed browsing, easy to use..
yeah, im done using opera mobile, mini works so good!
i also use piscel and sometimes skyfire if im next to an ac jack... ill use ie just as i do on desktop, BUSINESS ONLY!
I used Opera Mobile for about a minute....
Help: I am having a problem with Mini not fully loading pages and getting white screens. I have Jbed 2.1 (read it was better than the newest version) and the newest Mini. Any advise?
I love the speed of Mini (thanks for posting the download link), but even on extra large the text is very very small. Is there a way to make it show up bigger?

Are you using the generic version? Seems like UCWEB6 was made for Nokia devices not HTC
Another opera mini fan here, the fastest browser I have used, that includes skyfire. Only issue is lack of tabs, but otherwise its great

No, I'm using this one. It says ppc2003 but it's working fine on all my devices, supports both VGA and QVGA
im using a mix of ucweb and operamini.. loving it. the only thing wrong with this phone is the lack of softkeys.. makes browsing with mini a little harder..
I've been using the "vga" version of skyfire since it came out, and I love it for its full browsing experience, speed, and ability to watch video in the browser.
Thank you for this thread!
I never used opera mini before and I was amazed by it's speed. It's not going to be my default browser (that's still PIE because I almost only view sites which are optimized for mobile devices) but it's absolutely perfect for viewing this forum for example!

This crashed for me. Whole device froze up.
Opera Mobile.. it's just CRAP compared to Opera Mini.
CONS Opera Mobile:
- load time (HTC/Opera cheat by preloading Opera at StartUp)
- lots of squares while dragging
- many times while you drag the stupid software cannot make difference between dragging and tapping
- if you drag the page and the page is still loading, you are dropped to other position that you are.. this is so annoying.. you have to drag again or wait until all the page elements are loaded by the browser
So, Opera Mini is very good on the majority of sites. (there are problem with the pages with many images, it cannot handle all of them).
I'm using a VGA version of jbed and I don't have problem with font size ANYMORE.
Big thanks to trueg. Get it from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2973176&postcount=23
if i'm not mistaken, the reason why opera mini is so fast is because the pages are actually cached or pre-processed by Opera servers and then sent to you. with Opera mobile, you connect to the website directly.

That's very strange. It works great on my Blueangel, Wizard, Universal, Trinity and Raphael with all the custom roms I have installed on them and with the shipped rom on the Raphael the first day I got it.
Try installing on the SD card or the device memory, whichever you haven't tried.
Still have to say yes
Anyone else having issues with still having to click yes every time you try and go to a site? If I exit and open, the first time I try to open I get this annoying request. Followed the directions exactly and had no problems?
Also can't seem to browse with this on wifi, anyone else having this issue?

Question: do you have a CAB for voice command? That seems to be the only one I'm missing. Also, with the t-zones hack enabled, you need only sign up for the t-zones plan to get full data, correct? Thanks, I'll probably download this one.

I think someone's made a cab out of Voice Command. Search around for it. I'm on my phone right now, so, yea.
And I think that with the new T-Zones Ploan, you have to change the access point. My current setup is for when theold T-Zones plan, which can use a faster access point.
Well, I'm going to bed now. (IE is snappier, btw)

Yes, but your keyboard buttons won't all be mapped properly.
It's only the symbols (? / [ ]....) that are mis-mapped. You can still type, and you can get used to it, some Herald users are just used to it.
I might actually make a Herald version. I just gotta get my hands on the keyboard driver.
I am running it (aftershav3d) on a Herald atm. I have a swedish keyboard and the usual cab I use to set the hardkeyboard correct still works.

Lol. Well on this shav3d ROM, the Internet Explorer runs reasonably better, but, it still gets destroyed by Opera Mini. The loading speeds haven't really improved on IE at all. Maybe on my new Touch Pro 2, it'll be better (5 more days).

Yea, I saw that. Looks like a backport of the experimental build into the 230XX build. I've been sitting back and watching the changes. I might mess around with it once it's fully stable.
Noticed something strange when I tried to play a video (tried both .avi (think its xvid) and then to convert it to mp4). It runs smoothly for about 3-4 seconds, and then a small lag and then the player closes. Tried both WMP and CorePlayer. WMP just closes and CorePlayer minimizes and then repeats if I try to play the video again.
Notice that I am highly unsure this issue is because of the ROM. Didnt do any thorough testing of video capabilities in Ivanmmjs JustStable Micro, but I cant recall having this problem there.
If the problem does not lie within the ROM, is it then possibly a hardware issue? I am running my Herald at 247 MHz.
Edit: Noticed now that it runs smoothly if I turn off the sound, which leads me to think it is a hardware issue after all.
Does this rom come with a weather app? If not, can someone recommend a light weight weather app?

MSN Weather Widget (open the .ZIP folder and read the included ReadMe. It tells you what to do. That will install the MSN Weather Widget that's included in the numb3rs ROM.

Lol, I had Windows Live in the "Installed Programs list, AND in the "Not Installed list!! Lol. Fixed.
I can change the T-Mobile Logo pretty quickly. Probably will change it to an HTC logo. Or a picture of a guy shaving his face (just kiddin!)
And the "true" X button, where it closes when you tap the X button, that is HTC Task Manager, I believe. If I add that, then you loose, like, 500 KB of storage space. I think I'll leave it out, so that you guys can enjoy the most space possible (all these things add up). I'm thinking about releasing many many versions that will give you options galore, but I currently don't have my laptop. I also need to release an LZX version, that'll give you about 56 MB free storage space.
So, if all goes well, you will be able to select EXACTLY what you want in the ROM. But...I also want to try building that newly released 23022 build, so idk what will come first. And I've got other projects, etc. We'll see what happens, lol.
comm manager button
Great Rom!!! small bug comm manager button is not set by default to open the comm manager, easy fix.

There is no "Comm Manager" physical button. That's actually the "Voice Command" button. Ivan would just map that to the CommManager program in his ROM's.
You can change the buttons yourself, though. I'll probably be mapping CommManager to the Voice Command button later.
Ok guys, tomorrow I should have something up that will please EVERYONE!! I think you guys will love it!
And I'm not working on that 23022 build right now.
And this was written using the brand new XDA-Widget, written by ktemin! The new widget works decently, if you guys afe wondering. Ok, night all.
That sounds so sweet! You know I'm only 2 seconds away from flashing my phone if my daughter didn't poop in her diaper! Can't wait for the new version!

Opera Mobile 10b3 Can Support Flash!

Hello,
I downloaded Opera Mobile 10 b3 today, and was browsing through settings when I noticed a toggle button that said plugins in the advanced category. I am going to test fixoperaflash on it and post my results.
EDIT: I loaded a page with flash content, and plugins enabled and a big white play button appeared over the flash. The browser crashed because of low mem before I could get further. This was without fixoperaflash.
EDIT2: I clicked on a play button and the flash content started! It is less glitchy than older versions of opera. I still did not use fixopera flash!
it still sucks!
and they dont listen to users??
it really annoying MUST tap twice on screen when you go to sites with flash, Pocket IE is much better!
and i said it many times, why are they covering the CLOCK??
i surf internet on break or lunch break, i need to see the clock on top (or put it at bottom) so i wont go over my lunch break!
Yes, wish the clock showed.
But for those of us with low mem, having flash auto load will crash the pda. I love Operas new flash support, but have never used the new Pocket IE -_-
PIE IN WM 6.5.x is the best
Yeah... It probably is. Never tried it though. 'Nixeus', the member who made the 6.5 ROM for Mio p550 has given up

For me it is very good thing because I use flash content only from time to time so I don't want it to waste resources. So they shouldn't remove it, however they could add option to enable or disable this function so everyone would be happy
Well, you can disable flash and probably even the white play buttons if you go to 'about:config'.
Opera Mobile official thread
Thanks for the news
It´s already posted on Opera thread
And remember, this still beta!
I think the beta 3 has vast improvement...
very fast on loading..
plugin support...
and they have lifted the limit of keyboard....
I use Skyfire and i must say, it has all the features Opera promises, but don't . I can even play SuperPoke!Pets on my damn' lame LG KS20 and it is super lightweight (it uses a quarter of opera's size).
I tried opera mobile beta 1, 2 and 3 all are simply useless for low mem devices in beta 3 they have included flash but whats the use it makes extremely unpleasant to browse either the device crashes or just freeze and to just load one singal video i had to wait for 10 mins then after loading i clicked play button then buffering ouff!! its irritating.
Till now opera mobile 9.7 is the fastest and stable one for low mem devices.
And yes i agree with you all internet explorer in wm 6.5.x is much much better than any other browser with full flash support but in low mem devices there are two major problems:
1. Pages load really slow (as they load into device, no server side optimization)
2. Videos play but there quality is less than worst.... in low mem devices even youtube player cant play smooth video

I think it's a good idea to not play Flash automatically, since data traffic tends to be, you know, expensive. Also, it's an experimental feature.

What features does Skyfire have that Opera promises but don't?
Skyfire is small because it's a thin client. Everything you do goes through their servers. And they don't seem to have a business model beyond selling your personal data to advertisers...
Also, Flash is laggy in Skyfire. I can't get myself to like it.

Far superior support for Flash, Silverlight, etc.
Flash support for Opera 10 beta 3 seems very flaky. If you go to news.bbc.co.uk for example, you can't play any of the video clips there in Opera, even though they play happily in IE on my HD2 (with stock ROM).

When did Opera promise Silverlight support?
As for Flash support in Skyfire, are you kidding me? It's basically like a slow and laggy slideshow! I bought into the hype only to turn away disgusted when I realized that it was Skyfire which failed to deliver. I don't want slideshows, I want video!

No way! Flaky in a beta where it was labeled experimental? Amazing!

[Q] Which browser app is the best for Android devices?

Hi
I am the user using Galaxy S.
I am finding the best browser app. My first priority to select browser app is SPEED.
Which browser app do you think is the best for Andriod device?
The built-in Android browser I'm using Dolphin Mini now, it's fast too.
Sent from my ZTE-BLADE using XDA App
Stock browser simple anf fast
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
"Miren browser" without a doubt.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/miren-browser/cn.miren.browser
X-Scope is pretty good. I like it best among the alternatives to the stock browser.
Definitely miren.
I've tried:
- Skyfire
- Opera Mini (though not Mobile, yet)
- Dolphine HD and Mini
- Xscope
I was going to suggest Xscope, as of v6.3 they've really streamlined the interface and sped up the browsing.
...But after seeing folks suggest Miren, I loaded it up and I must admit I am impressed! So far this app has some really nice polish and it is definitely FAST.
Alright, Miren is now my default browser.
Xscope is so fast. But it started to save too much junk, resulting in fcs and terrible loading times. The UI is really dissapointing, though first user experience is really surprising.
So far I went back to miren. It's just as fast as safari, but the UI is so good in the end you get work done minutes earlier It's really compatible.(I mean, all the webpages have rendered properly so far) Though still quite uncompeteable with the stock one. Still use it sometimes.
For tablets opera or xscope. xScope gives you really chromish experience and it's fast, opera has become much better, and remember when surfing on mobile network, definetly the way to go.
Though miren has a mobile network saving feature too, it's quite failish(dunno the current version though) and just not as good as opera's. Dunno about tablet experience, though must be close to firefox/opera desktop experience.

EDIT:
And forget about skyfire and dolphin, they're just SO bad.
i will go for miren.....!!
you should try it.....
I also suggest miren but on my desire i have to kill the miren process manually or it drains the battery(this happened after a recent miren update).
Dolphin HD
I've tried various Browsers with my HTC Desire : Opera Mobile, Opera Mini, Xfire, Xscope, Dolphin (stock one), Dolphin HD, Miren... Yet, I still couldn't fine all-in-one browser!
Each browser has it's own problems: Miren, Dolphin and Dolphin HD (since all using WebKit, I presume) doesn't allow redirecting streams in browsing - which means, you cannot download PDF file if it's read through a PHP stream (you know, like in pages "*****.com/somefile.php?getid=xxxx" kind of pages - I noticed it when I tried to download a PDF file of my next project in my course web page)! Also, they don't allow HTTPS redirecting - say "secure connection couldn't established" - but I think it's Android related problem...
Opera does all these, but it's flash support is missing! Also, it makes render faults in some pages - It did for my bank's "web banking" page, for instance (perhaps due to some flash content). However, due to its own engine, it allows HTTPS redirecting and PHP stream-downloads.
Among those all, only Miren did correct pinch-to-zoom action though.. Text flawing makes unwanted scrolls in all browsers but this one - kinda surprised me, I must admit.
I now use Dolphin HD because Gestures are quite handy and I saw so small speed difference between Miren and this one (please note that Desire is fast device, this difference may be seen more in slower devices). Also, I've seen no browser (including Miren) but Dolphin HD rendering the flash content correctly - while using Miren, in my bank's web interface, flash content was flowing on top of browser interface, for instance!
So, instead of picking one, you'll most probably pick two - one will be dolphin Hd, miren or Dolphin and the other one is Opera - since you will, from time to time, have to use the other browser to open a page..
Dolphin Mini was small, fast, and efficient. Opera Mobile, with its somewhat hardware acceleration codecs, was as smooth as an IPhone browser on my Fascinate. But right now the stock browser has been good so far.

Try holding the back button or quiting the application with the Menu->Exit Application option. I've checked with Task Manager that it really terminates (Dj Droid v2.0 rom)

Agreed! I have tried them all except Dolphin Lite.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Have tried most of the browsers out there
Stock is ok, glad they brought in instant back in 2.2 so it didn't reload page everytime you went back , in 2.2.1 it seems slower though & is not as quick at going back
Miren I really liked first version but seems to get buggier with new versions, little things like the speed dial links on homepage not staying in order they were added, now each added one always goes first until new one is added etc, just tried 1.1 version but that won't go full screen now despite being set too, page movement is slower, some rendering glitches.
Dolphin always seemed slow doing anything, even the interface is slow, also tried mini version but that always had some page/link rendering issues like clicking links on bbc news page always selected above the link for some reason, stock does that at times too.
Firefox had high hopes for this one as it main desktop browser but I sad to see the betas, each one is worse & slower, hardly any options, all the good extensions don't work well, page zoom is pathetic as is text size & text reflow, I hope its not going final anytime soon as it needs a lot of work.
Opera mini & mobile are good, quick & fast, needs more options though, some page rendering issues but no worse than others, can't wait for flash & hardware acceleration to be activated, really liking opera 11 on the desktop.
Best one I have found so far is xscope 6, this is one fast clean looking browser love the dark glass theme, the pin zoom feature is great & I prefer the double tap zoom/reflow, instant back & did I say fast.

That's a port problem apparently(yeah I wrote that word again, so what? grammar nazis...). Either way I use the default browser for this kind of problems. He always comes in handy And I'd suggest you to go back to miren, because it gets updated a lot and kinda gets a feature every few times... You know?

It saves a lot of junk. I thought the same... I'll just reccomend you one thing: once a week delete xscope's cache. Or it'll get even slower. And disable the theme, it slows down as well =/

Have You Tried SxBrowser, or Bing?
Also If Your Rooted, You Can Use The SetCpu App, & Make Almost Any Browser Fast (At Least Faster Than Usual) But The Bing App Can Only Be Downloaded By Verizon Customers "Unless You Try A Method I Posted" Under Codes For Market-Access!!
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Chrome, sadly only for the google tv. I don't doubt we will get it soon.
I mainly use the default browser... it is fast enough for my needs, and gets the job done.
I have been an Opera Mini user for a long time, ever since it was released for windows mobile few years ago. It is for sure fast, but there are some issues with the rendering. some pages look weird, but if you use it for casual browsing, I guess you will be very satisfied.
I tried Dolphin HD and Opera Mobile, but I can't say I really liked them, too many options for a mobile browser, and both felt slow.
I rarely use the browser now. I used to check news and blogs, but I recently found out that Pulse reader is available for Android. I've been using it on my iPad for a while, and it sure made things much easier now it is available for my phone. It does not run as smoothly as its iPad counterpart, but it is good enough. I also use WiKidroid to check Wikipedia.. So unless I am searching for something on Google, I don't open the browser that much...
I guess I have to try Miren, everyone seems to recommend that one
I use Dolphin HD.
I've tried them all and it's the best for me without any doubt.
