Hello
I'm obviously new here and glad to find a place where I can find out more about my xda2s.
One quick question I hope someone can answer - on my old Dell x3 there was a fantastic 'Switcher Bar' appearing at the top of the screen, which when pressed would show what programs were currently open, and allowed you to then close them, therefore saving memory etc etc.
I know there is the task manager on the xda2s but I cannot get an icon for it; one that will stay constantly there. Any ideas or is it simple not possible.
Thanks in advance
HPJ
install the attached file, it will give you 2 new icons. one on the top which will show battery status and the second icon at the buttom which will show running programs.
hope this is what you are looking for.

that's great, thank you. I've installed it into Program Files> Task Bar> (all the unzippped files) but it hasn't done anything.....how do I activate it?
Many thanks
HPJ
you dont unzip it
you sync it to the pda and run it then it install what needs to be installed
personaly i use PHM Task Manager
which is pretty much the same as the task manager in windows(pc)
Still cant do it....I need more practise obviously.
Whats the PHM Manager like in WindowsPC (I know how to use that at least.....)
Thanks
HPJ
here is what it's like and look like
http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/TaskMgr/
well when you doubleclick on a cab file you should see a progress bar often it's gon before you know it and then the program should have been autoinstalled and have an icon in programs

Dosn't work with WM6 on a HTS x7501
Not surprising
Hi guys,
I flashed to the new WM6 ROM, looks gr8, but when I try to change the theme (.tsk) to other themes that I used to have on WM5, the background image does not update...
so is WM6 incompatible with WM5 themes??? I did not install any version of XButton in my ROM...
Whenever I update my theme, I get the HTC default background image but theme colors update correctly...
what is this? any solution?
I have exactly the same problem and anybody knows how can i fix it but i hope that the people of xda can help us
Greetings, Diego!!!
First do this test pls
Hi,
can you install this skin pack Here
if the background dos not change maby you have to change to a difrent rom (i recomend XDA2a)
Greets Antonius
I will try this, but switching to a different rom is not that easy, I spent much time personalizing things on my PPC.. I will be sad if that would be the only solution
EDIT: it did not work and I am really bored solving problems with WM6,, any solution here?
Shut off htc xbutton (settings, system task)
Change theme
Then turn it on.
Did you try installing your .tsk files to the root of your SD card instead of to the windows folder?

Ok i turned of X-Button and restarted my wiz, and then i changed the theme, nothing happened. I don't understand when i load the cab it doesn't extract properly or what.... the start menu that pops down when you click on start seems to get the theme loaded right but the background picture it loads to Default black. i dont understand what is blocking it....

This is a known problem when using X-button. Either find the latest version of X-button (1.51 or something similar). Or go to start>settings>system>X-button and uncheck the boxes that says "enable X-button to end programs..."
If you do not have X-button installed, Then try changing your theme, waiting a few minutes and then soft-reset.
Nothin was right about themegence being the best freeware theme maker. I've used it to make every one of mine. If you go to MoDaCo to the Pocket PC Today Screens QVGA in the downloads section I have 30 or 40 of them in there that I've made. I'm going to have to check out where you guys are downloading yours from and see if I can figure out why they aren't working. Usually, at least the ones I've seen, you don't install them from a cab file. They're usually just zipped or a straight tsk file that you put straight in to either the windows folder or in the root folder of you sd card.
Well, I figured that out pretty quick. If you guys are all downloading them from pocketpcthemes.com, they are not working because the wallpaper part of it is not in the right format to fit a wizard. The images are too big so it's not using them, instead it's using the default wallpaper instead. Try downloading from the MoDaCo downloads section that I mentioned in the post just above this one, they should all work. I know that the one's that I made and mandt made will work for sure. I'll try uploading a bunch more there within the next day or 2 also. If there's any at that pocketpcthemes site that you really have to have, I could probably fix a few of them so they will work if you let me know which ones they are.
@xeno
what program do you use... I used them gence to gen my theme and it dint work
edit: I downloaded the themes from modaco, n they all work great. even w/ x-button. omg u r best xeno. but tell us wut u use to make theme so we can make too.
now what is the difference between PocketPCThemes tsk files and ModaCo tsk files?
I've updated the Tilt keyboard fix to address the apparent issue with the Smartdialer keys also being incorrectly mapped when flashing a non AT&T ROM onto the Tilt. This will also fix the FN character issues being incorrectly mapped too.
This was tested on a Tilt flashed with the (current) HTC ROM and worked perfectly.
Install -> Soft Reset
Enjoy!
IMPORTANT:
Some people have reported that this cab didn't fix their Smartdialer issue. It's important that you uninstall the older cab that was posted here (if you even installed it), then soft reset. Then install the new one and soft reset one more time. That should do it.
Do not unzip/decompress this .cab file on your desktop and move the files over to your device. It won't work. You need to copy the .cab (as is) onto your device and tap to install.
Great job thx.
Thanks!
This is great! Any tips on how to accomplish the reverse...if someone say, wanted to put the Tilt ROM on their Kaiser?

When you flash the HTC ROM (or any non-ATT ROM) onto the ATT Tilt, some of the alternate (FN) characters on the keyboard are mapped incorrectly. This fixes that.

It is a registry entry. I was originally looking for the same "qwerty" entry (like in the 8525), but instead the following was the culprit:
Code:
[HKLM\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD]
create - CWSLayout - value (1)

I did some digging and found out something about the sliding panels.
They are almost identical to Htc Juno Neo interface
They reside in HKLM/software/microsoft/CHome
The part that is responsible for the panels is this
<plugin clsid="{E9267CAB-02EE-4f37-8216-6BF6A8FF5A71}" name="Bronze" height="266">
<Plugins Order="CClock;CHome;CAppointments;CWelcomeCenter;CWindowsLive;Clinks;CMessage;Cmusic;CMyFaves;CMyphotos;CTestUIplugin;Settings" />
</plugin>
From top to down they are arranged in the order in the home.xml
From side to side they are arranged in the registry, at
HKLM/software/microsoft/CHome/<panel name>/Pages
They are arranged in a simillar format
eg(settings)rofile;Wireless;Ringtone;Background;Task.
There are a total of 12 panels but 3 of them doesn't do anything.
They are
CClock
CHome
CAppointments
CWelcomeCenter
CWindowsLive
CLinks - doesn't work
CMessage
CMusic
CMyFaves - doesn't work
CMyphotos
CTestUIplugin - doesn't work
Settings
Thats all i can dig up for now.
does wm6.1 homescreen work on wm6.0 ? maybe by copying some dll to wm6.0 . ?
Not just by copying and regist them... like any other plugin
i tried to build wm6.0 (based on RUU_Vox_HTC_GER_1.34.407.1) include CHome application/plugin and WelcomeCenter
i also added all needed Registry entry`s
the same problems as CHome version from s730 (tryied that 2 months ago)
i will not get it work
...(no time for that)
@Vener
nice finding...
/windows/bronzeres.dll
ther are the Icons for the slinding panel ... if someone wish to make a better looking homescreen, with other Icons
And I think to play on the RegConfig for the CWelcomeCenter, you can make it to a App-laucher bar ^^ ... I will test it tomorrow ... or soon
Some people are asking for the background pic i used so here it is.

Can you tell us how you reconfigured that "Getting Started" Slide for you own applications.
I think that others are very interested.
Thanks.

you don't need to put icons in a dll. a simple .png will do.
for exemple :
"TEXT1"="Internet"
"PICTURES"="\Windows\61.png"
much easier

I have no experience in creating a CAB file.
I have created this by manually editing the registry and assigning images..
I am planning to write a sort of manual of how I created this application slide.

Hi all,
I've been searching for a way to change the ugly [3G] icon that's displayed on the title bar in WM 6.1 on my Kaiser. The current official icon looks distorted as if it has been stretched and is really ugly! I'm talking about the large plain 3G icon, not the one with the antenna next to it.
So far I've come across this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=351770
This thread refers to shellres.96.dll and also to a .CAB which contains a modified version of phcanOverbmp.dll. I extracted these two DLLs from my device and checked them with several resource editors, but could not locate the dreaded [3G] icon... I could find the battery, phone, wi-fi, and many other icons in there, but not the [3G] one. So it must be stored in a different DLL... Note that I'm using WM 6.1 (not 6.0). Could it be that these icons are located in a different DLL in WM 6.1?
Does anyone know the location of the [3G] icon in WM 6.1 ROMs? I want to do the modification myself (I'm a programmer and know how to do it). I just can't find the file it is stored in.
Any info/help is greatly appreciated.
Many thanks to all!

Wow, your version looks better! The one I'm referring to is the one I'm attaching to this post. This is the icon that comes with the official 6.0/6.1 Kaiser ROMs.
This has got to be the ugliest, most distorted icon I've even seen in a WM device! It may sound like a minor detail to a lot of people, but it just spoils the otherwise beautiful Today screen of my Kaiser, that's why I want to change it if possible.

Are you sure it's in there? I tried checking phcanOverbmp.dll again using both PE Explorer and Resource Hacker, but it's not there, or I'm doing something wrong. I'm attaching the DLL to this post, if someone wants to check it out. This is the file that came straight out of my device, which is exactly the same as the file I extracted from the official ROM files (HTC WM 6.1 WWE). I just can't find the [3G] icon in there...

Thanks for the suggestion. I've just tried resh on the DLL suggested above, but can't find the dreaded [3G] icon!!! See my previous post.

Many thanks for posting. Unfortunately this is not the same icon! I found this earlier on while I was searching the shellres.96.dll DLL. See attached image. This is the small version (3G logo on top-left), which is part of the animation it shows while connecting. This icon looks OK. The one I'm referring to is the large plain 3G icon with large distorted fonts, as shown in my post #5 above.
Thanks again for trying. I can't believe it's so difficult to find this little icon!
Still can't find it! Aaarghhh!
Hi again, sorry for bumping this, if any of the cooks out there reads this thread and has successfully modified the [3G] icon on a WM 6.1 ROM, I'd be really grateful if they could let me know how they did it. As said above, I was expecting to find it as an icon resource in a DLL, but checking both shellres.96.dll and phcanOverbmp.dll it's just not there... There are 500+ DLL files in the thing, so it's near-impossible to check them all manually...
If anyone knows anything about the whereabouts of this mystery icon, please let me know.
Many thanks in advance to everyone in the forum, your help is greatly appreciated.
DrXDA
Try IconsExtract from www.nirsoft.net. You can point IconsExtract at a folder and tell it to scan sub-folders too; just give it the root folder of your dumped ROM and let it go.....
As several people have already said, the icon is almost certainly in the pcCanOverBMP.dll file; there are about ten "3G" icons in my (WM6.0) version, most of which are the small versions that get displayed when a 3G data transfer is taking place......BUT, there is (at least) one icon that could be the main icon.
When you look at the output from IconsExtract, the 3G icons don't actually show until you click on them to highlight them, which makes me think they may be kinda transparent icons?
Have a go....see what you think
Mark.
phcanOverbmp.dll is where the 3G icon is located. I have a nice looking 3G icon from back in the Hermes days that works on the kaiser I will upload later if you still need it.
@Mark Crouch: Many thanks for the suggestions. I've never used IconsExtract, it sounds like the ideal solution for batch-extracting the icons in the 100s of DLLs in the ROM. I will give it a try and post my findings here.
About phcanOverbmp.dll, if you guys are absolutely certain that it's in there, then I must be doing something wrong. I tried at least 3 different resource editors and could not find it. But I did notice that different editors showed slightly different data (for e.g., Visual Studio's resource editor wasn't able to display all data for some reason). I hope IconsExtract will manage to show the dreaded icon.
@austinsnyc: Another vote for phcanOverbmp.dll, many thanks for this. Let me do some tests and if I still can't find it I'll ask you for the file.
Thx guys, will post here when I do the tests.
DrXDA
I am 100% sure that the 3G is in phcanOverbmp.dll.... Again you can also find the cab I am talking about by searching Xda for "clean 3G icon" you might find it in the hermes section but it works fine for Kaisers as well Now a CUSTOM 3G would be totally awesome and something I have not seen before except by using WiseBar Advanced which I don't like to use.
Still can't find it!
Hi again, I've just tried IconsExtract to extract all icons in phcanOverbmp.dll. Guess what? The damn [3G] icon still doesn't show up! There's only one icon in there (not related to 3G) and also some bitmaps (again unrelated to 3G).
Can someone please download the version of phcanOverbmp.dll that's in my Kaiser (it can be found here), and check it out to see if you can find the icon? I'm really looking forward to your results. Note that this DLL is the original file that is contained in the official HTC ROM, I've double checked this by extracting the same file from the official ROM image and comparing the two. It's definitely official and untouched.
Please note that I'm using the official HTC WM 6.1 WWE ROM (not the old WM 6.0 ROM). My guesses are that either the WM 6.1 ROMs don't have the icon in there, or maybe the icon is stored in a non-standard way, so the normal resource editors can't extract/show it.
Any ideas are welcome.
I think I'm beginning to give up on this...
DrXDA
The attached file is the one I have been using on Kaiser and previously used on the Hermes I had - no problems on either devices. I like it and am still using it today on WM6.1 PDAviet v7
I Believe that it was inside an add-on package from one of Schap's earlier WM6 roms (mid-2007).
search xda for "clean 3g icon" if you care to know it's history.

The attached file is the one I have been using on Kaiser and previously used on the Hermes I had - no problems on either devices. I like it and am still using it today on WM6.1 PDAviet v7

Many thanks, I will give it a try to see what happens. I quickly checked the phcanOverbmp.dll contained in your .CAB and voila! The 3G icon is in there (and looks nice too)! What I still don't understand is the fact that the 3G icon is NOT in my own phcanOverbmp.dll (original file from HTC). How come?
Anyway, I will try the .CAB to see what it does. But still, I was expecting to find the 3G icon in my Kaiser's original DLL too, so I can change it myself as needed. This is still a mystery to me...
Thanks again.

the reason i think HTC changes it from build to build and also something strange that might be cause of your problem inside the kaiser OS.nb there are to pecanoverlook.dll)) one is just like that one and the onther is _pecanoverlook.ddl which is swapped out for one another when Autro-run is run...
may not mean didle **** just a thought.
