new htc pure questions (new to forum flame away) - Touch Diamond2, Pure Themes and Apps

Hi! i have been reading over this website for a while and just got the new HTC PURE. i have a few questions and hope maybe some of the senoir users can point me in the right direction.
I have been searching and maybe im not using the right verbage.
I have used spb products before and liked what they did for the form and function of my old HTC 8125.
so now im looking for a couple of things for this new pure to make it how i would like it.
( fresh out of the box htc pure att )
first i would like to add some new tabs to the carousel such as a sports tab
next the start menu with all of the att support icons seem a bit useless to me and a waste of space. how do i remove things such as " att music, att navigator, att wi fi .....)
i have never done anything with rom and im not sure if i should but im up for suggestions.
so over all should i just buy the spb mobile shell or should i download something here.
ill keep reading the FAQs and hunt for answers on my own. and thank you all in advance for any advice

Never heard about a sports tab...
Cleaning the start menu is possible in /My Device/Windows/Start Menu/Programs and there you can delete all you want...

i guess ill have to find out if there any problems with removing that bloatware and the programs they are attached to.

Mobile Shell is used by a lot of people, but If I were you I would give the standard interface a bit longer, it really depends on how you want to use your phone and how 'shiny' you want it all to look while using it.
With the above tip about the start menu, I find it a great help to use folders to 'clean-up' the menu. (ie Create some folders eg GPS, Installed, Sports! ??)
As for adding tabs to the carousel, from what 'I' believe it is very difficult if not impossible to add tabs over the selection currently used, I know some have been able to change a tabs usage, or icon, but I haven't seen a way to add additional tabs, someone correct me if I'm wrong!
Edit: Just read about the 'bloatware' if it came with the phone, it can't be removed (its cooked into the ROM), but the shortcuts to it in the Start menu can be removed, I would cut them from the start menu and save them in a folder (in my Docs or somewhere other than the start menu), that way if you decide you need them, it is easy to put them back.

If it was possible to remove the bloatware from the stock ROM, my pure wouldn't have gotten flashed without 30 min of me owning it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=585201
That should help you with everything you need to flash. I don't believe its possible to add tabs in touchflo, unless they are hidden. Some of the newer ones have the program tab hidden, but you can reenable it via registry.

thanks for the help! i have moved the bloatware as suggested and thank you for the responses.
As for how i will use my phone, i love the touchflo, and the phone itself. i have never flashed anything and im not sure i plan to. generally speaking ive been happy with the proformance of the phone, however having a news tab a sports score tab and a facebook tab would be great and i would love to have them all update say on an hourly basis. maybe one day.
right now im trying to figure out what ill gain from flashing the rom and which rom i would use.
any advise would be great
thanks again

REQ: stop app from ever running in foreground

hi chaps
right, here's my problem:
i've got a prophet running the latest dopod rom. all's well in pda land. unfortunately, i've had to do some fiddling to get o2's homezone app working the way it should do. more or less. see, the thing is when my device wakes up, the homezone app HZDisplayDataSMP is always in the foreground. so before i can do anything i have to press the OK button. now, i can sort of live with this, as i have homezone functionality, but it's, well, a pain in the arse, to be honest.
so, my question to you guys is this: does anyone know of a WM5 programme that will run apps, but force them to remain in the background. i was thinking of some resident startup item that would keep the app hidden away nicely from my interface, but continue to allow it to do what it needs to.
does anyone know of anything that sounds useful? if so, you're my man. i've got a hunch our good vijay555 might be able to lend a hand, but feel free to throw suggestions at me.
thanks a million, guys
I was asked about a similar app recently, to run apps minimised.
I've had major troubles rebuilding my PC after I installed the Vista Beta and it decided to eat my Documents & Settings and Program Files.
I'm finally back up to speed and able to start programming again, so will try to look into it.
But it should be easy enough for a developer to knock together with ShellExecute.
In the meantime, you might want to use a mort script to find the window by caption and minimise it. Or SK Schema should be able to do exactly what you want, run an event when it finds a window by caption.
V
righto! thanks for the heads-up. really appreciate it, pal. i'll have a look into both of those suggestions.
ps: the only reason to install vista is halo 2 pc. can't think of any other factor which would cause me to pollute my hard drive with such nonsense

Best calender/task manager

hey, i like touchflo,, i guess. probably cuz im a little too nervous and inexperienced to start seriously messing around with my phone, but i do hate how the calender on touchflo works. I cant see specific says without clicking on them, and the whole thing just seems a little elementary.
is there anything you can suggest that will work with touch flo, and required just a simply installation, because im not quite sure what most of the tech abbreviations mean, and how to manually configure settings.
So from your experience, what is the most intuitive program.
would it also be too much to ask to see some screenshots of the programs.
thanks a lot....consider it my christmas present
just a side note,
if you have a program on the phone, and then update the framework, must you reinstall the initial program...the reason i ask is , i have a program to prevent the screen from being responsive when i call came in, but after a few updates, ie. framework and advance config, the screen blocker program isnt working
any suggestion?
i believe there is already a post about this and to the best of my knowledge the answer to your second question is no
SBSH Touch Calendar looks awesome. I haven't tried it yet as it costs $25 but I'm thinking about buying it. Give it a shot and post up here!

hey, sorry for the repost, but ive been searching, and really havent been able to find what im looking for. It may just be that i dont know if the mentioned programs im looking for are compatible with the touch pro. Im not looking to mod my task bar, or anything concerning manilla files. Just a program that allows me to see into the future a little better. is this spd diary program compatible with touch pro and free?
thanks for putting up with me
Try thumbcal, i's great. Version 0,5 is free after that it gets a little better but it's not free anymore, 12
Have a look here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=381588
This solved my problem - if this is installed, you switch the screen off, then on again - all appointments as well as current date/time is displayed.
Ive used Thumbcal and only just installed the SBSH touch cal, have to admit looks and operates great. So much more features and ability to manage apts etc. First impressions i think its alot more comprehensive then Thumbcal, but just my opinion.

nervous and excited

Getting ready to purchase 2 FUZE's. One for my wife and myself. She wants the iphone but I think the FUZE is the way to go for 2 big reasons. The FM radio is a must and the being able to watch the slingbox. I have read the wiki, noob rom basics, and this is what I am thinking.
I think upon reading i will need to
1. Hardspl the phone. (can you do this with a VISTA?)
2. Choose rom (NATF ver 2.3 seems the way to go)
a. I think his rom unlocks the fm radio no need for a cab file
b. I think it pulls up you tube from hidden att menu correct
3. Dont think I need to do anything to the radio as far as rom.
4. Patience...maybe play with phone for 2 months before trying to flash
a. Might be better off flashing from start since not used to phone any way
Anything else you think might be helpful before I purchase...
nervous and excited
Youre pretty much righton the money with everything... although speaking from personal experience dont waste any more than the first 10 mintues youd use to make sure the phone powers on with the stock ATT rom. Ive heard good things about NATFs rom...i personally use PROvens. just be sure of two things HARDSPL before flashing a GSM (not cdma) rom and also you will need to revert back to original spl and rom if you need warranty service
alright heres my 2 cents..i got mine last week and had a kaiser before and i have gone through stages of flash junkyness and from my experience with a wide variety of roms i went with Monx' RomeOS..he made pretty good kaiser roms (even tho i always stuck with L26's roms and Dutty before he left) so i noticed monx on here and his rom is off the hook..havent tried the other ones but by default ROMeOS is hooked up..you have alot of stuff in the system menus like forcehires (for forcing qvga to vga) you have alot of tweaks already in place but heres some really great programs that really open up the functionality of your fuze
and heres a link to a VERY thourough guide another xdaer set up with all the cabs he talks about
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446306
and heres some info n my setup which ive acquired through the use of my tilt and now some changes with my fuze to form what ive found to to give the fuze the most capability
resco file explorer - really good touch optimized file explorer
quickmenu - cascading type of start menu that really rocks and has alot of extra functions
aebuttons - allows you to map applications to all buttons on the fuze (like camera for the ptt)and even multiple apps for each button (1 press, 2 press, 3 presses, press and hold)
gscroll - allows you to use the front button pad as a touch screen and act as a dpad or scroll and even use your gsensor as a dpad or scrolling and EVEN add more app shortcuts to double tapping the 4 butons on the front pad (because you are TAPPING not pressing it utlizes the touch screen not the hardware press)
gyrator - good autorotation app
htorch - use flash as a light
lumos - better than default auto backlight manager
wktask - give you tabs on your top bar like on your desktop windows task bar
thumbcal - finger friendly calender (very nice)
icontact - best finger friendly contact manager
xbar - when you hold down the action button it pops up in a little
window and acts a as a task manager and has menus as well whch you can
put shortcuts in too
heres a link to my cabs
http://www.4shared.com/file/74989849/d6a4d6e4/Fuze_Cabs.html
Thanks for the tips above. It is confusing reading all the different cabs out there because the descriptions given are vague at times to what they accomplish. I saw a you tube video of a FUZE and the sluggishnish seemed to be gone. I wondered how did they do that and then got to here. I am really looking for a rom that will decrease the sluggishness and remove the hard to read grey screen. Unlocking the radio feature was a bonus that pushed me to this phone.
Also for the cabs you listed above are they in one file for all the one listed above. When i hit the link I see on file only. I thought it would be one for each.
I think today is the day I order my FUZE!!!!
that file is a zip with most of those cabs.. if u get a chance tonight ill find and up all those cabs yo my 4shared page
Thanks Paz...got my fuze yesterday. I works and I have not done anything with it. I will try to hardspl it this weekend. just trying to decide on a rom. It is a must to include the radio but I need to make a cool theme and icon look for the wife's fuze. I dont think she is digging it. I think its the grey att stock rom background.
I would say the best way to spice up her phone is to get
S2U2 (Iphone like unlock slider on the dev and hack forum)
S2P
Rotating wallpaper (24 pictures that cycle every hour)
Galarm
Custom themes are located in a few places so look around (Diamond, Dev and hack, Raph)
I have to say, you should NOT get your wife any ppc phone unless she has some sort of knowledge about the WinMo OS. Otherwise you're going to have to be tech support for her from here on out like I was with the wife's 8525. I recently got her an iPhone 3G and, after the initial setup and basic instruction, she hasn't had to ask me a single question about how to make something work and has been able to download and install the apps she wants on her own.
You can say whatever you want about the iPhone, but it is the best phone for people who want a powerful device and have no clue what the hell they're doing. It really is the consummate idiot-proof device. (No offense to my wife if all the stars aligned and she finds this on google or something)
I agree

I agree with this statement. I started out with the HTC S710, S730, and when I got my Kaiser last year, I got my girlfriend an Iphone. Why? Because it's really idiot proof, so to say. It does not crash. Does not require any real setup. She has enjoyed it from day 1 and uses it everyday without resetting for weeks! Works great with the dock (it rings from the phone, not through the damn connected speakers.. even if they are off!)
With all that said, I will never purchase an Iphone for myself.

where do i begin? trying to find the right plugin for TP2

I've just gotten the AT&T Tilt2 this Dec 31 and I have been trying to figure out how to really customize the today themes. however, because nearly everyone here uses cooked roms, i just can't seem to figure out how to find plugins that can work with stock winMO 6.5 on my Tilt2. I have a few particular things I would like to set for my today themes but I need to learn even the very basic of the themes on my Tilt2 first, such as TouchFLO 3D. but what do I call the window default? so far I think it's titanium? and what about the even older looking theme that I see when I don't have either the "titanium" and TouchFLO 3D?
Basically I want easy view (or access) of the weather forecast, time, agenda, task, and messages (combined SMS, MMS, and e-mails). I would also love to be able to launch select few apps from there.
How do I go about setting this up when I do not even know how to find out all of the relevant info I needs? (believe me, I've tried to use the search functions but i can't seem to find any newbie-friendly explanations).
Sorry if I seem to be cluttering up this subforum, but I really really want to figure out how to set this up so I can truly use my tilt2 efficiently in this way in preparation for my next semester at college.
Thanks for any and all info.
P.S. I know that I will be suggested to go ahead and try to flash some roms into this tilt2 but i would rather find out of these plugin first so I can be sure that I would have all of the functionality without having to do that if I can.

Welcome to the forums!
TouchFlo and Titanium are today plugins.
This means that when you siable them both, you get the standard WinMo today screen.
You can disable them by going into start/settings/today. There you can disable the items you don't want.
To have more plugins for titanium, you can go here. There you can find various extra plugins, like weather.
For TouchFlo, there aren't any plugins.
I hope this helps, if you have got more questions you may always PM me.
And next time, ask questions in the Q&A section. I know that forum gets less attention but we need to keep this section clean for themes only. Thanks.
Cheers,
EC

Okay no problem, just next time.
As I said you can revert to the old standard windows mobile home by going to start/settings/personal/today/items and uncheck Titanium and Touchflo.
I don't know any standard home plugins, because I never used it.
If you deleted plug-ins you will need to hard-reset your Tilt2, or find a download somewhere.
EC
Moved to Q&A as not release.
You can use standard plugins. As was already said, just uncheck windows default and TF3D from today settings, and select whatever you want. I use Tonaya weather-2-go, Skyfire, Pocket Digital Clock, PDA Status, and SK T oday Commander (paid for). A lot of the freeware sites have many choices. I recommend PDA Status, it's really nice.
Anyway, I kind of agree with you on the UI's. I like having things in one place, and don't like having to scroll all over the place. If you're bored, you can check my sig and see how I have mine set up (don't flash it, though).

Frustrated
OK, I'm frustrated as hell trying to get some decent plug ins for my new phone. Just got a new Tilt 2, and really, really like the titanium weather plug in look, but cannot get it to operate on the phone. Am I missing something? The options for the today screen do not change after I install titanium weather (showaco, tried both of his v4.1 and 4.2 cabs), but a weather line shows up in the Windows default today screen. However, every time I try to get it set up, it gives me an error, essentially
(OK, I can't post a link (not trying to), but in the following, the xxxx was actually http)
'xxxx://hadle.accu-weather.com/widget/hadle/weather-data.asp?location=62002&metric=0' couldn't be opened.
also
Line 1 (\Program Files\TitaniumWeather\TitaniumWeather.mscr):link=ReadFile("xxxx://hadle.accu-weather.com/widget/hadle/weather-data.asp?location=&location&"&metric="&metric)
So, what am I missing, or am I installing an incorrect program? I'm brand new to any of this, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Dale

Well..
With android (especially with HTC Sense, HTC's UI) you can add plenty of little things to customize your phone. From the top
You can move application icons from page to page on the homescreen along with widgets. to add an application to the homescreen you can open the app drawer/list and longpress it and drag it to the homescreen. Once on the homescreen you can move it around.
Along with Apps you can add widgets to the homescreen, a widget is an app that runs in the homescreen it can do things like display a news ticker, enable/disable settings (power control widget), and other things like play music and search boxes. these can be very useful for getting a quick glance at information without opening up the app.
To change the background you can longpress the homescreen and select wallpapers.
If your phone supports it you can use live wallpapers, search for them on the market or on XDA.
One tip is dont install lots of apps! dont go and download every app you see it will slow down your phone, also dont use task managers as it messes with android native application closing process.
Also the biggest customization of all if your phone is rooted (IE: full permissions and access to the system) and has a hacked bootloader you can load custom roms that are themed or have a big performance boost.
Best of luck!
If you have any questions PM me and I will be glad to help!
Thanks
I spent the weekend tearing through other forums
Found a program called Sideload Wonder Machine that allows apk files to be put into the Aria without having to "root" the phone or otherwise dcik around with it. Worked pretty good after I found the USB Driver to sync it up with my laptop. that was a bit of a process in and of itself.
At the end of the day (weekend) I didn't really find too much to load into the phone that was not already available at the droid market. Swype, yes, but not for this phone. Loaded F-Secure anti-theft too but that, too, is not for this phone.
I am not sure how business savvy these droids can be but they are cool. Kids love them. The UI operates much like the iPhone and much less like WinMo.
I'll keep dciking around with it and see what happens. Thanks again.
