Hi all,
I need some help figuring out what might be wrong with my bootscreen on the CursorSense ROM.
I have exhausted all of my resources and am left with posting a query here.
When I shut down my phone, it shuts down normally. Then when I start it back up, it shows the HTC MAGIC boot screen, but before showing the ROM bootscreen it displays the last image that the phone had on its screen before shutting down. I'm currently using a NexusOne bootscreen, but it does the same thing if I use the stock bootscreen.
YouTube Video:
http://bit.ly/83FpR2
My boot_animation.xml looks like this:
Code:
<BootConfiguration>
<BootAnimation
image="/system/media/bootscreen/boot1.gif"
image2="/system/media/bootscreen/boot2.gif"
loopimage="/system/media/bootscreen/boot2.gif"
image_bg="/system/media/bootscreen/boot_bg.gif"
audio="/system/media/bootscreen/boot.mp3"
screenX="40"
screenY="0"
useAudio="0"/>
</BootConfiguration>
In the /system/media/bootscreen folder I have these files:
Code:
boot.mp3
boot1.gif
boot2.gif
boot_animation.xml
boot_bg.gif
To me, it almost seems like while it's booting it ignores boot1.gif.
I have had comments that users who have a Vodafone 32A Magic don't see this. Possibly because the Vodafone boot splash stays on for longer.
If anyone has any suggestions, that would be great!
Thanks!
Just a thought
I haven't flashed your rom yet so I don't know if I have the issue but it sounds like a problem I had when running linux on my pc and using the vesa graphics driver. The video card seemed to store the last image it displayed in some sort of frame buffer and the OS forgot to clear this buffer on shutdown and so the first thing I would see post POST would be the Ubuntu "you can now turn off your computer" screen. This didn't happen when using the correct display device drivers so maybe there's a problem with the kernel being used and the hardware that is causing this problem? just a thought
p.s.
I'm going to try your rom soon, just have to update my radio and spl

For some reason I can't get my Polaris to run the latest Android version (i.e. Froyo).
1. Downloaded latest kernel (polaimg-panel3-320-froyo-07-07-10.nbh)
2. Downloaded last build (Incubus26Jc's Super FroYo RLS10)
3. Put last build (.tar or .tgz file) on SD card in directory /andboot
4. Flashed by using NBH file together with RUU Update Utility
Now it gets tricky:
a) or the system reboots, vibrates twice, I see a red and blue line and then a black screen and nothing;
b) or the system reboots, I get the Android installation menu after pressing middle button, install, but after soft reset I get a "No such file found" kind of system error
Can someone help me getting Android on my old Polaris? Thanks!

Same for me with polaimg-panel3-320, but it works great with polaimg-panel1-320-24-05-10.nbh
Thanks! Got it working with the older NBH file. Not completely flawless, but it works!
Don't use the old polaris panel 1 nbh, instead download the latest and then use this utility to change it to panel 1.

Thanks!!! Got it working with the latest NBH files! Great!!!

The panel type depends on revision of your polaris, more specifically the make of the lcd panel, see here. I just tried every panel until I found one that works, I use panel 1.
Thanks a lot, but could you please answer me again. How i will know what kind of LCD panel in my Polaris and which number i should use?
these parameters is placed in my start-up file for the haret launcher
#alloctest 0x2000
set RAMSIZE 0x08000000
set MTYPE 1723
set KERNEL zImage
set initrd initrd.gz
set cmdline "board-htcpolaris.panel_type=1 pm.sleep_mode=1 mddi.width=240 mddi.height=320 no_console_suspend clock-7x00.mddi=0xa51 hw3d.version=1"
boot
can i use panel type from here?
i have opened this polaimg-panel3-320-froyo-07-07-10.nbh file in NBH editor and saw that the HW3D is set in Eclair. Should i change this to Froyo or left as is?
Thanks a lot for the conception)))
pannel type 1...
Did I brick my Polaris?
Well, it makes me laugh looking at the last post dated back July 2010 but I decide to post anyway because I feel somebody might have passed through my problems and might help.
Following indications on this forum:
1. I downloaded:
- Kernel: polaimg-panel3-240x320-2.6.32-froyo-09-09-10_21.nbh
- Last build: Incubus26Jc's Super FroYo RLS16 All Languages
2. Put last build (androidinstall.tgz) on SD card in directory /andboot
3. Used RUU Update Utility to flash the nbh file
Everything when smoothly. When it reboots, it vibrates, "Smart Mobility" message shows up, vibrates twice and then a blank screen is displayed.
Going through this forum I think I might have used the wrong type of panel and should have used Panel 1 instead of 3. So I downloaded Windows NBH Editor and managed to change the nbh into Panel 1. Then I shall try again.
This time my Windows 7 is unable to recognize my Polaris and all it can see is a new Disk Drive with no ADB device displayed. So I installed PdaNet302.exe to implement the USB driver for HTC Android Phone but it still cannot see my device and the process aborted.
What worries me is that one step of the process requested to change a setting on the Polaris (On your phone, click Settings > Applications > Development and make sure USB Debugging is on.). Obviously I can't do that as the screen is completely white!
I believe if I can manage to have my PC talking with my device then the problem will be fixed with the panel1-based flash. But every attempt to install the USB driver for Android Phone regularly fails on my PC.
All that time the Polaris remains with the lighted blank screen and there is no way to turn it off as the on/off switch refuses to work.
Shall I buy a new phone? Thanks for your help.
Did you try flashing the phone with a regular oficial HTC rom? just try it. Put the phone in the boot mode (press camera button and another one, dont recall which one) It will change to the tri color screen. Then connect it and try it.
Also there is a modified nbh rom which includes nothing, just the tool to recover your rom. Do a search to the forum.
I recently tried to install on my Polaris and it went really wrong. And finally could recover. The file is called ROMUpdateUtility_task29. I will erase everything on the phone but later you will be able to recover it
Form that point no more experiments. Polaris was made to work with Windows Mobile. It's really unstable, video camera is useless. And so on.
PC Carvalhon rom and I can use my phone as I want.
regards.

A second life for my Polaris
Kafkacell,
1. Following your suggestions, I successfully started the bootloader (camera touch while reset), the 3-colour screen appeared, Windows 7 recognised the device. I then flashed the offcicial RUU_Polaris_HKCSL_WWE_3.19.831.3_radio_sign_25.85.30.07_1.59.42.15_Ship and everything successfully completed. With enormous pleasure I see again my Polaris back to activity. Thanks for giving my Polaris a second life.
2. Back to Feb 2009, I flashed a pcarvalho eXtreme ROM. I don't recall any longer the version of this ROM but it was very stable and never ever crashed. Recently I downloaded and flashed most recent ROMs. From that moment on, I have no peace. It crashed 2, 3 times a week. Now I wish I could go back to the old version but couldn't find it. Perhaps pcarvalho removed them to save space? May I ask you which pcarvalho eXtreme ROM version do you currently run. Thanks.
Im currently running 29022 version (latest update from PCCarvalho).
Notes:
UPDATE:
29022 is up
this is a fix release...sound issues should be gone...had to remove htc volume control is it still has issues...fixes minor gfx glitches...updated to lastest and probably final leak version of wm6.5.3 (29022)...will from now on work on unresolved issues and finalize rom...this will still take some time due to work...
updated physics engine and utask app by ultrashot...my thanks to him...
patched htc album to novsync, faster scrolling once cache is made...
removed no longer supported apps (my phone and marketplace)...if u need them install via cab...
Here is the link for the rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15707730&postcount=8079
it was posted on July of this year, and so far it runs great. The trick is to not install a lot of apps in your main memory. Do it on your SD card. Also a hard reset is a must to avoid all kind of problems.
regards and glad you have your phone back to life
Hello again, after following the steps to install andorid the SD card, once Android starts the splash screen appears but we do nothing and leave after a few seconds for the screen and I can not do nothing. Just a soft reset.
I put the new version's Incubus26jc Super Frøya (RLS11)

if you are using the original Polaris, POLA100, then following post #8 of this thread: hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=729676 (you need to change the hxxp prefix to get the URL link) and use the kernel there and additional boot parameter.
Now function ok,
thanks

Hi all,
I just installed DINIK "Anastasia" Keyboard (v3) and must have somehow done something wrong, thereby killing my phone.
I copied the .cab file to my SD card, then ran the file, installed it to the SD card (without error) and restarted when requested. The .cab can be found at the following thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=670811 .
When the phone rebooted it stopped at the white screen with gree "HTC" - it now will not advance beyond this point. I have tried to de-power & restart the phone, but it will not start.
The system is:
- OS version: 5.2.21869 (21869.5.0.82)
- Manilla version: 2.5.19211619.0
- ROM version: 1.66.405.2 (76641) WWE
- Unlocked phone
Can anyone tell me how i can get the phone running again, even if it means a hard re-set back to factory settings. At the moment the phone can't be used for anything.......
Any advice or help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
BGM
I am concerned that the only solution is to make HR...
Thanks Petulinek,
No doubt going to cause issues when i re-install CoPilot without de-activation.
BGM
My device also died.. suspect that the keyboard does not work with recent ROM update.

U can hold volume down (or volume up, I can't remember) to boot into ur bootloader screen. U may now do a factory reset from there.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
OK thanks - looks like hard-reset is the only option
try boot with sd card out before HR
Of course it's satly to see this; but like mentioned several times on the "Anastasia keyboard" thread, v3.0 isn't compatible with older builds...
There only rest you a HR to solved your problem.
Thanks for the ideas - didn't boot with the SD out either, so have done a hard-reset.
Cheers
First of all i would like to thank all the devs who spent alot of time and effort in developing android for us.
Down to business i finally got time to spend trying out android, im using haret method and i know its not as fast and complete way of using android, but im just gonna do this to provide feedback.
Alright heres my setup,
Using Atool
Polaris, 320x240 panel 1 (pola 100), no vibrate on boot, sd system, sd data. made the default.txt.
2.6.32_zImage-11-29-10-liquid-latest
androidinstall.tgz from Super Froyo release 16
androidupdate.tgz from androidhtc
Initrd from androidhtc
Installscript from atools, erase data and system, advance mode, install system, install update, fix permission, clear davik cache.
The install begins and never finishes, it keeps repeating infinitely around
INFO: task kadspd:17 blocked for more than 120 seconds.
and alot of other memory address related stuff
i did check this thread, but after a few pages i didnt see a solution there
Kaspsd:17
after some testing i think it was the initrd because i changed it dzo's last initrd from dzo and it worked. could this have to do with my sd card being class 2.
I hope this can help you guys. I'll post further results when i get more testing done.
Update:
Ok it seem, the loop is not within the install script, but the boot up process although i saw it say "Install module for this kernel", why is it installing again when the last script is still disabled?
Btw, this occurred when i tried replacing the initrd back again after the install was successful using dzo's initrd.
Dzo's initrd was causing a weird issue on wake up, the lock screen, was inverted like in a mirror. wth?
Regards,
Lord Meshadieme
waiting for more detailed results...
Um, can you be more specific im not very linux oriented.
Lets see, here's the steps, starting trying to do a fresh install which basically succeeded (this is using your kernel and initrd), but concurrently its stuck booting. BTW why does the booting process have a line saying "Install modules for this kernel" so here's the dmesg from the successful install. no bootlog since it never completes booting in the loop..
It does boot using dzo's initrd, although quite buggy, (the bootlog below is from that successful boot using dzo's initrd) i'm gonna try it again and see what works and what doesn't. anything specific you want me to check?
Update:
So far testing shows BT turning on, haven't testing file transfer or headset.
Turning on Wifi freezes the phone, already applied the androidupdate..
Calling works GSM.
Battery is showing incorrect value, there's a fix for it somewhere right? i'll search for it.
Waking up from sleep does that weird inverted screen for like a second then it goes to normal. (it is literally like a mirror, text is even flipped)
USB Mass Storage, is connecting but the drive does not show up in windows.
can't test market without internet, not sure how to use internet through usb yet.
no gprs/edge/3g to test right now.
Camera, is weird i was able to take a picture but it was a dark shade of green... but now i cant the app hangs.
cant test gps since the default map tool asks for internet too.
I think you did a really mess!!
what you call "kadspd error" is when kernel kill a script due to long time execution (you probably wait too long). The action is the message "install modules!!!!".
Please next time pay more attention!
Follow all the steps in atools guide. You forget to mix the rom with the module update!!!!
BTW install MY kernel, and apply update before the first boot.
I am using TMW v3.0 ROM, but I like the bootup/shutdown of GC v2 ROM. I think I did replacing all stuff below correctly from the GC ROM to TMW ROM, however I only get the animation for bootup/shutdown, but no sound.
Replacing:
1. PowerOn.snd and PowerOn.wav files in /system/etc/.
2. bootanimation.zip file in /system/media/.
3. shutdown folder in /system/media/video/.
4. shutdown.ogg file in /system/media/audio/ui/.
Could someone tell me how to get the sound up and running. BTW, my phone is on ringing (not silent/vibrate).
Thanks,
Hieu
How do I remove or replace the bootup logo where it said "T-Mobile Sidekick 4G Samsung", the screen that you see first after power on the device and before you see the custom room bootanimation?

You can't, that's the bootloader and if it gets messed up you got yourself a bricked phone
Edit:
There is a way to do this, I booted up my G1 last night and it had a custom image. I remember a program used to size pictures in windows and then flash from the SD card, I'll dig around the G1 forums for it, hopefully it's compatible
