[HTC update] HTC HD2 SD Card Storage Capacity
Just checked the HTC website and found this update. However, I am not able to download from any of the mirrors. Try it from your end:

Update for HTC HD2 SD Card Storage Capacity
This update for HTC HD2 further extends support of the SD Storage Capability. Taking pictures with your 5 Megapixel lens and dual LED flash can only truly be appreciated at the maximum quality, and now with this update, you will be able to appreciate how much more you can store in your 8GB or more SD Card.

Hmm...
Well aside from having to wade through and decipher the marketing noise of a description, as a side note anyone in marketing please get a proper job your making this planet a frustrating place to live. haha. I just tried to download from all the mirrors and they aren't working but that might be just my luck
Same with me from Singapore here try to download , no respond to the server
as if got error.
what a weird sounding update, wonder what it does... when they actually let you download that is.

Can I take it you only need to install it if you are using an SD card of 8GB capcity or more ?
That's weird, I'm using a 16GB card right now without any issues (1.43)...
I wonder if this update for HTC HD2 lets me reach out to my friends and family with instant notifications, just like the SMS fix did...
Look at the slashes in the URL
The file is not located on their server at this moment.
http://94.136.51.200/download/Driver//HTC HD2/LEO07567-05.exe
This is the download for the SMS fix..when you rename the exe to the new sd card storage fix, the link dies!

Unless its some sort of compression or optimisation thing.
Just fired an email off to HTC about the download locations lack thereof

It seems to be a driver update
I can't download it for the moment , error ...
looks like the download link is broken for ANY mirror at the mo...
This update is for specific versions of the camera sw. I think that the update has something to do with compression of pictures taken with the camera.
Why can't HTC be more specific on what an update does?
o wellz at least its not an update we expected... but they always make use *appreciate* things by not doing things properly in the first place...
Weird indeed, using a 16GB card and that camera version here as well without any problems...
Perhaps it has something to do with the camera increased quality mod from this forum, enabling the increased quality (and bigger images) when your card is 8GB or more
But yeah, the descriptions suck bigtime. Tell us specifically what is fixed please HTC, not some general marketing talk making everything seem like a big favor instead of a necessary hotfix.
Does this relate to the htc album cache and/or other cache's?
edit; oh ye, not downloadable, nifty

I've never once been in a situation where i do not have enough space.
So far it has been more than enough for me. I DO use google music however, so that saves a lot of space.

I believe it brings an SD Card. Also its not a pain at least on my end. I haven't reached 6 gb yet and we all have 16 here. Unless u put massive amounts of music into your Memory then that's when Ull have to worry lol. But there's Google music for that (if u haven't been invited yet) I use it all the time but quality is alright, with voodoo its better than beats

I don't care about no SD card. It is pointless to me.

i was worried about it too at first but imo the transfer speeds make it all worth it.
and for the record the "16bg" actually amounts to .98gb internal storage and 13.31gb usb storage.
Not a big deal, I hardly fill even half of it..heck my previous milestone with sdcard slot+8gb experienced the same.
again, depends on your usage behavior..horses for courses.
I wasn't sure at first but don't miss having card slot in the end. 16gb is a lot (roughly half full local music and all) and btw the Galaxy Nexus even offers 32gb model (Expansys is listing it in both 16gb and 32gb) if you need more space.
In the end i don't regret getting my Nexus S (I miss not getting it in black tho).
Not a deal breaker in my opinion. Whether it's 16GB or 32GB, you'll find a way to fill it and have to transfer anyways.
I do use my 32GB card for a lot of music, but if Google music becomes more available, then perhaps that won't be an issue. Except I do love my PowerAmp.
Does it make flashing new ROMs any different?

No. Its important to remember there IS a 16 or 32 gb partition that behaves exactly as SD card, the only difference is you cannot remove it. But I don't think of this as a problem because you can just mount it to PC and copy/move everything all the same.

If you want stuff off it it's quicker to mount it and copy
For me, the issue was never about removing it, but more about whether it changed anything as far as modding is concerned. That, and the fact that I could get a galaxy s 2 or even Droid razor with 16 GB of memory then add my 32 GB card for enough space to replace my Zune.

I thought it would be a huge sacrifice before I bought the NS but it has really been a non-issue. There is plenty of space for apps + pictures and I use Subsonic for music. Only issue I foresee is if you plan on shooting several hours of 1080p video as that will easily eat up 16GB.
I've had my NS4G for about 2 weeks after having an xperia x10 for a year with an sd card for storage.
I use mine for music, and I come very close to filling it on a regular basis....I'd love to have the option to recycle my old 8gb card from my old phone, but I can't. And no, it doesn't hold "a ton" of music, as previously stated. I have about 4gb of music and about 4gb for apps, roms, backups, etc. and I have to always pick what music I want to transfer, and what music I am going to sacrifice.
Honestly, it's not THAT big of a deal, but having an option to expand your storage would be a no-brainer, I would think. It's not like it costs that much to add an sd slot...and I'm sure people who use their phone as an mp3 player, video camera, whatever, would happily pay an extra few $$ for the option to be able to expand your storage.
Also, I find it easiest to transfer apps to other people by just backing them up to SD card and inserting it in their phone for a quick install....I can't do this anymore, which means I have to jump through hoops and email the app or worse, use bluetooth, which is always a headache with people who don't know what they are doing.....ALWAYS. SD just saves me from the headaches.
Installing roms, apps, flashing zips, etc is exactly the same...you'll never even notice the difference unless you like to remove your sd card to transfer files all the time, or something like that.
In the long run it's up to you, and if you are used to having expandable storage, you will definitely miss it....but it's the size of the sacrifice that makes it a deal breaker or not.

hey if you want a google music invite PM your email
I rarely miss sd card slot actually never. Google music has all my music and it works every well you can even download your tracks for offline use.Plus my spotify account
I suppose if for someone that wants to load their phone with blueray rips and be able to watch every movie they every owned at any given second it might be a difficult situation.
Flashing roms is the same since your 16gb is partition for internal space then 12gb is left for storage and it acts the same as a sd card, even in a file manager it will show as teh sd card hope this helps
Didn't google release an API for google music, or am I thinking of something else. I would love it if PowerAmp could access google music streaming.

If you don't have a computer or laptop with you, then you can't mount to anything.
I can put GB's of movies on cards and swap them out whenever I want when traveling.
I have 80GB of music. I guess if you have a small amount of music or only want to carry a small % with you, then internal memory is fine.
If you keep phones 2 years (like most do on contract), 32GB might seem like a lot now, but how will that look in 20 months? With a card slot, it isn't an issue- you can upgrade anytime.
All that being said, for most people 32GB with no card slot is probably enough.
I have a cricket muve music ZTE Score
$30 best buy no contract. I am going to use as a digital dash in the car and for timelapse in "risky" situations where I won't care if I lose the $30 phone. not even going to activate.
anyway it came with a 4gb SD card YEAH ! but you only get 1gb 3gb is dedicated to their music service.
suggestions on reformatting this so I can use the full 4gb?
I already stuffed a 16gb in it for timelapse but would be nice to have an extra 4gb card for my wee little 720p spy cams I used on my rockets.
Trying to do the same. Some info i found.
From KydDynoMyte on slickdeals
"You don't have to wait until you remove Muve, but Sandisk did something special to these cards. You can't see the hidden 3GB partition. The only reported method I haven't been able to try yet (all the others have failed) is:
one guy reported doing this to 3 or 4 Muve cards. He put the sdcard in his Epson wireless network printer card reader and transfered over 3GB to the card and it let him do it, then he was able to reclaim the missing space. Not sure if once you get over 1GB on it if you get the whole missing 3GB back or only the space you write to. Also I hope he didn't have the older bad batch Sandisk sent out that didn't have a blue background and required the AAA SD Card fix on market for Muve to work."
From Sandisk
SANDISK SECURE FLASH MEMORY TECHNOLOGY TO POWER NEW CRICKET UNLIMITED “MUVE MUSIC” WIRELESS SERVICE
"With the help of SanDisk, we have created an innovative new way to protect digital content without the use of DRM," said Jeff Toig, vice president and general manager, voice and data products, Cricket. "This solution enables a superior overall experience for Muve Music customers. They will have immediate and easy access to all the music they love while the music industry has the confidence it needs in a secure mobile music solution."
The card itself has a specialized firmware on it that locks off that space on the card as the press release shows -- it's a special form of DRM. Could possibly be CPRM/CPPM DRM.
I've tried poking at the card low-level a few ways but it looks like we'd need to somehow re-set the card's firmware with a "normal" card's firmware... possibly. Or potentially try and see if it's a form of CPRM.
Only thing is Google isn't helping me because the only things you'll find is updating other devices' firmware... not the physical card itself.
There is a firmware update for Muve SD cards released by Sandisk on Google Play.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sandisk.shima.fixer
Would it be possible to use apktool to see what this app actually does? Of course you can always just get a new 4GB microsd card for like $5 so it may not be worth the hassle.
$5 is $5 I have 5 of them so thats $25 or 5 memory card's I won't have to buy for my little disposable micro spy cam's if I can get these buggers formatted.
Hidden files
Using TestDisk I was able to extract otherwise hidden files from the card, MuveMusic_v4.db3 and ComFile.dat. MuveMusic_v4.db3 seems to be encrypted, and ComFile.dat had a reference to 'mkdosfs' contained within. I don't know enough about anything to work with these files, but I figured it was a step closer.
The card is still showing up as 1GB.

4)Put the letter of your drive..for example if u have the letter (F u will put F..

6) Type the name again to start and Done...check your sd card you will have 3.99GB

HOPED THIS HELPED =)
anyone familiar with this drive increaser? scam? malware? where to get it ?
Stay away, it does nothing, though cleared the malwarebytes test. I don't know if I am still infected with something else.
It works. I tried it and it opened up the whole 4GB of data. Just google "muze sd format" the first hit should be a blogspot page, then the link goes to zippyshare. Sorry, won't let me post the links.

Tried this out and it doesn't work. It makes the SD card report 4GB of space but I tried transferring a 2GB file to the SD card and after it had transferred the first GB I got an error. This means its still only 1GB of actual space available.

Hello All!
Just got HTC One S in the mail today, I was aware of the limited storage of the phone by reading the forums here, users said I should have around 10GB of "user" storage. Quite far from the advertised 16 haha!
I understand the ~2GB is dedicated to apps etc.
My question is:
Has anyone figured out how to repartition the storage in order to decrease app storage, and increase user storage? (maybe by a different rom etc?)
I personally wouldn't mind having 1GB of app space just to fit a few more albums of music (I love music on my phone)
I'm thinking even if I used nobloat to remove the t-mobile preloaded stuff, I would only increase the application storage (which does nothing for but increase just the application storage space?)
Somebody give me some help here
Anybody??
Removing the bloat will only free up space on your system partition, not /data where your downloaded apps are stored. I'm not sure if anyone has repartitioned the One S yet, though.

Your HTC Hero prolly had S-OFF or a similar removal of protections in place. As of now, without S-OFF we cannot repartition, becaue we cannot write to locked areas of the NAND / NVRAM (whatever it is exactly...) and therefore we can't resize partitions.
Nope, no S-off
Question
the question is another: can we physically change the sd-card hosted inside the phone with another one of a bigger capacity? (32 / 64 gb like in the HTC Mozart)

Run some read/write speed tests, you'd be pretty lucky to get an SD card that could put up the numbers this phone does. It's a very tiny chance it's an SD card, but I refuse to give up hope until it's proven.

me too, as I am getting up to 18mb read and I backup a lot, so it is welcome
I am converted to no sd card phones, as the memory here is fine for me--got dropbox/google drive etc if needed
If you have decent coverage in your area you can try google play. And I'm pretty sure you can download the music directly to your phone from it, if the area you'll be in is spotty.

I think he's asking if that can be changed.
And to answer that, without S-Off I don't think so.

You definitely won't without s-off. Or, more likely an exploit like Blackrose which was developed for the N1. Where it simulates s-off to resize partitions. But, is not true s-off as related to the secure flag. I don't know if it is easy for dev to look at Blackrose in N1 sub-forum and carry that over to One S--
So were talking about this:
4 GB's for the OS, 1 GB for the system apps (after potential resize). Gaining only 1 GB for the User. Increasing the User avalible space to 11GB's.
That seems like a lot of work for only 1GB. Unless someone could trim the OS down by half. 13GB usable....hmmm!

Another solution could be a usb host mode... Don´t know if that is possible?

Yup, that was it. Thanks.
Just for your reference, Android 6.0 now allow you to use SD card as internal storage, and if your card is fast enough, doing so will benefit you greatly.
Caution: Require formatting your card.
Don't forget to reboot after your doing so, an known bug will prevent apps behave properly after migration.

I'm using a 64G Samsung Pro SDXC, which can do sequence R/W at the speed of 70MB/s from my testing, but the system still warned me about "slow sd card, will degrade performance".
From my daily using I don't notice a big difference from Galaxy S6, whose internal storage claimed to be very fast thanks to Samsung's new tech.
But it could be I'm not sensitive enough to notice the difference.
One interesting thing I would like to mention is when using a tf reader along with this card on my nexus player, I don't get similar warning. The nexus player did warn me if I use a very outdated 2G usb drive, so how "fast" a Android 6.0 define an external storage may even vary depending on the device itself.

Yes and no.
From my personal experience: Current SDCards are prone to suffer errors. When internal hardware fails, you tipically get a read-only-card. And I experienced it with different brands, from Samsung to Kingston. So my suggestion is: purchase the bigger that you can pay with the maximum quality. Don't waste time with speeds. The duravility is the most valuable thing. And try to: read all you like from the card, but write only the necessary. The lifetime is based on writes.

The duravility is the most valuable thing. And try to: read all you like from the card, but write only the necessary. The lifetime is based on writes.

What if someone wants to use the adaptive storage feature? Won't that cause the phone to do a lot of write operations ?

I use the same Samsung Class 10 128 GB memory card on the next third phone for almost 4 years. I'm happy with her.

Hi, this is the exact same model that just failed to me last time... after only 2 months of work!
I only recommend *PRO* (made for video capture) SD-CARDs for intensive writes!

It's weird. This card I wrote about works without any mistakes. I formatted it myself after buying on a computer on FAT32 to be sure. There are also no problems with video recording. But ok, maybe you have not had luck.

The problem with SDCards is this: anytime one card is different from another one, even the with same model. The reason is because in fact any SDCard is a collection of flashable blocks... and all cards have errors. In the comodity range of cards, the number of over-provisioned blocks is small. Moreover the active blocks aren't heavy checked. And the SoC that controls the card doesn't have robust algorithms. The result is, after some time doing writes the card starts to fail... until it deads.
In the other hand, SD *PRO* cards are very different. You can write a lot without fails.
So, if you only need to READ from a card (for example, with a MP3 player), then you can use ANY card. But if you need to WRITE to it (for example, in a smartphone; or with a digital camera) then use ONLY *PRO* cards.
I comment this after years of dead cards. Belive me!
And the faster the better, if it isn't fast enough the phone will tell you (when doing the card as internal storage)
