I found a G1 and tried to factory restore it but the home key doesn't work and I don't know the Gmail address or password so is there any way around that so I can get into the phone and use it. Please let me know, Thank You!

You found a G1?
I bet its mine... just kidding.
Look it up dude!!
Poor guy who lost the phone though.
The home key is pretty vital though since you need to confirm with the home button.
This should be in Q&A, you'll likely get a better response.
Factory reset really just involves reformatting the data and cache. Without having root access already, and an Engineering SPL installed, you might have a tough time. My initial thought is that a gold card would work, but I think you do that from the recovery partition. I don't think that you can reboot to that partition from fastboot. Hmmm, not sure. I'd check with Q&A.
You should check to see if the last owner had the phone rooted (you'll be surprised)
If thats the case then just flash a new rom through the computer (Droid Explorer)
Turn the phone on and plug it into the computer with DroidExplorer open and see if it picks up anything.
I'm pretty sure thats all you need then you could download a cyanogen or what ever rom of your choosing and flash it.
found ?

how about emailing the owner and returning his/her property ?
you should see the email address of the owner after 4-5 failed unlock patterns iiirc.
Try:
Code:
adb shell reboot recovery

apparantly i locked my TB with a pin code and woke up this morning and now i cant get into it at all. after 60 tries i thought it would ask me to enter my google account email and pw which i have but it hasnt. anyway to get past this??
Well that really sucks forgetting your pin code, but if it were easily worked around, it wouldn't be much of a security system, so it's not easy.
This Google help forum thread might help you out: http://www.google.com.tw/support/forum/p/android/thread?tid=1889ba0fa1e29183&hl=en
If you're rooted, with adb access you might be able to clear something in the system to reset it, but I'm not sure where to start with that if it's even an option.
Factory reset will certainly get you back into the phone, and shouldn't wipe your sdcard data, but I'd pull it out before resetting just to be safe.
thanks i appreciate it. i just cant believe after 75 tries it doesnt tell you to enter your gmail account info to get into the phone. i thought all androids did that

yeah. both my OG Droid and Fascinate made me type my Google credentials after a certain number of failed tries. Call VZW and see if there is a workaround. Keep us posted!
If you are rooted and using ClockWorkMod, u could restore a backup, that uses no pin or an old pin.
If you do have CWM and a earlier backup, I would perform a backup and then restore the earlier backup.
if you can do that and get into the OS again, you might be able to Run Advanced Restore in CWM and just restore the Data Partition from the backup of the pin locked one. (this is just a guess, Im not sure where the pin is saved but this may be the best way to not loose data)
hi.
i have come upon an opportunity to purchase a password locked sidekick 4g. i would love to buy this phone, however first i must know if i can possibly factory reset the phone in order to eliminate the password. i dont need any data on the phone, so a factory reset will not bother me.
i have searched the forums, and google, and such i believe it is possible but i havent found any definitive method. so first of all, is it possible? and if so, how?
thanks,

if its PW locked from like a sort of code (pin/pattern) set while on the phone you can do this.
while the phone is off hold power + and both volume keys. when the screen lights up let go of power and hold the volume keys. you will enter recovery mode and from there you can wipe data/factory reset. then it will be like you just bought the phone where you have to set everything up again. Hope this helps.
great awesome news! i figured thats how it would be done, however i wanted to make sure.
although, this method will work with a stock recovery? im assuming this sk4g is not rooted/flashed or modified in any way.
thanks,
bc54
It'll work on stock recovery prob .
If i was you i would go into download mode with
Volume down + Camera + Trackball & pull out battery & hold those button's then flash stock firmware .

Why would it be password locked? Sounds like it might be a stolen phone.. Be wary of stuff like that.

yeahh, if the phone has lookout on it, when the phone is turned on, they can track it o.o; be careful bro,
If you go into Download mode (not recovery) just drop the Oden Stock on it...
I have a LG optimus 2x unrooted and i i have forgotten the password to unlock it "i was kinda druk when i set it"
Its not the pin fo som put it is the built in number code that is used.
Is there some way i can get passed this code. The phone is not rooted but if it is possible to root without unlock it im willing to do it.
But if there is a way to solve this without root i would like that option first.
can yu access tha phone as it is lock?
i cant log on to the phone but i can see the notifications att the top but i cant drag it down
I think you'll have to do Hard Reset. Unless you talk to LG support
My bad. Unsure what the answer is for you. Sorry dude.
cant you do a restore with a pccompanion?(i dont have the same phone so...you understand)
i thing you should communicate with the lg support!
On some phones there's a "Forgot Password" button on the lockscreen where it asks you to put in your Gmail address and password so you can reset it.
use the gmail recover option, i don't tell other options..your post history doesn't really show you owning the phone. sorry
there is no forgott password or anything like that.
Never used the pccompanion or something is that LGstuff or is it some other app.
About me not owning the device : If you have an aoption to unlock it i can send you a copy of the receipt and pm or mail to you.
boot into stock recovery and wipe
Thats just the thing i want to avoid.
Delete the lockscreen apk.
maybe you should hard reset it..

How would that be possible if i cant get in to the phone.
The forgot password option shows up after u enter the password wrong a few times. Just keep entering random 4 digit number untill it gives u the option but if it locks you out and still doesn't have the option stop trying. You will just lock it out longer.

adb remount
adb shell

It's case-sensitive I believe so keep trying different capitalizations of "Lockscreen" if it doesn't work.

That adb disabling of the lockscreen is a unique idea. I'll be curious to know if it works or not. Please keep us posted.

I need root too! I wonder if any of the ics exploits will work with this?!
I hope someone does something with this tablet. Would be great. My kids just got one but it don't seem like you can do much.
Barely any apps, any sites I try to go to its blocked. My daughter doesn't want it anymore because you can't even use Facebook

Yeah i bought one for my son and i cant even get it to go to the lexibooks app store. I wonder if we could find out the chipset and port a stock nexus7 rom to it or something. Maybe even create our own update.zip
Poop splash gives you AIDS... and an iPhone
I've had a go at compiling aosp before... I'd love to give this a try.
I've been looking for exploits so we can have root.. but there's no point without first having a working clockworkmod recovery. Because u couldn't backup or flash another ROM without it.
If we knew what chipset it was based on.. it would give us somewhere to start. Also some source code would be nice.
I'd be happy to do some builds and test.. but I would need to know I have a backup I can flash if all goes wrong.

Hi,
I did this and the screen shows an android laying down with the cover ("hood") open and an exclamation mark inside a red triangle. What does this mean? Can I do a factory restore? Please help, I got me one of these at a flea market with the plan to give it to my daughter and now it's useless, but she saw it and is all excited about having her own tablet and I'm going to have to buy a new one if I cannot make this one work. Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I had same problem and asked the customer service.
Here is the reply from them.
Please find the steps to unlock the tablet:
Select the settings icon in the corner of your tablet.
It will ask you for your password, leave it blank and the keyboard comes up.
On the bottom of the screen there is a small icon of a keyboard, press on it and then you will press on "set up and input" the settings comes up, press on "back up and reset" then "factory reset" then "tablet reset".
The tablet will be reset in 3 to 5 min, let it restart then put a new password.
Please be aware that if you do a factory reset, the tablet program will be restored but all your datas and applications may be erased except the applications installed by default on the tablet.
Did anyone get theirs rooted at all? If so, could someone help me out? I was trying to put CWM on mine and it seems to be bricked. I can get into flash mode, but have image to flash. So if anyone is rooted, hopefully we can use DD to dump the stock image.
Thanks
If anyone is still interested in this thread, I just acquired a little MFC270EN and successfully rooted it with KingoRoot. I was able to remove all the little games and annoying bloatware. I haven't tried flashing another version of Android onto it, but it's working fine and I'm using Google Chrome (I removed the Lexibook browser with all its "safety" lol), checking my Facebook and I just installed Link2SD to give it some more space.

Hello there,
Unfortunately I deleted an important video from my Verizon note 5. I been trying to recover the video for two days but no luck. I tried Samsung Data recovery, dr.fone, Recuva, and many different software. I came to the conclusion it's not possible without rooting my device which I would if I know how,but from what I read there was no successful way to root the Verizon version. Any idea, or a recommendation would be really appreciated.
Thank you!!

It's probably to late without having some sophisticated software recovery tools and taking the phone apart.. I guess if it was mine, I'd create a backup of everything I needed and then do a factory reset and when it asks to restore thing's after the reset tap yes and hope that it did back it up to your Google account and save it but I really think it's to late. Make sure you sign back in with the correct(same) Google account. Before doing any factory reset make sure OEM unlock is ENABLED in developer settings!!

It's could be to late because the memory blocks that it was stored on could have been overwritten already by now and that makes it to late it's gone and something else is in it's place.. That's why I said maybe your Google account might have backed it up so you can email Google and see what they say about it..

Thanks a lot for your try to help. It was not backed to the cloud for sure because it was deleted right after it was recorded. Do you think there is still any chance to recover it by the factory rest method? Also, Is there any software I can purchase to help ?

Probably not.. You can ask around but a lot of the software or apps people sell don't do what they say they can do but I would search around and try to read reviews on some of the applications because other people will tell you whether they've had any luck or not but I would look around before the factory reset because if you do that you're definitely overwriting the memory blocks for sure!!
Still looking for some way to recover the file but no luck. Didn't use the phone ever since.
I wonder if you have set up to sync before. If yes, maybe you can check out in the trash of Google Drive. It is allowed to recover deleted data within 60 days. Or you can try FORecovery to recover your data, which I have used before. As I know, it's have nothing to do with device version while the software identifying and rooting your phone. Anyway, just take a try. Hope this is not too late for you.

If the video is super important and you absolutely have to have it you should take it a recovery specialist and don't download or put anything else on the phone because it can overwrite the memory blocks.. Usually when you delete something the system just marks the memory blocks as reusable and able to be overwritten but if you don't do anything to cause it to be overwritten it's possible that it's still just sitting in the memory blocks and you just can't see it..
