[How-to] Flash NEW SPL WITHOUT GOLDCARD - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

Well I looked around before flashing a new SPL, and I could never find a guide where I could actually follow. I was too lazy to get a 'Goldcard' and do it.. and since I had 2 MT3Gs, I didn't really care if 1 bricked.
Did it successfully with both MyTouch's
REQUIRES ROOT | REQUIRES ROOT | REQUIRES ROOT | REQUIRES ROOT | REQUIRES ROOT | REQUIRES ROOT | REQUIRES ROOT
Here are my steps, just saying, don't follow if you don't want to..
But I take no responsibility if you brick your phone or any other damages towards your phone, or your mental state.

Since this is a MyTouch phone, you should have the latest Radio (2.22.19.26I), if not update your Radio.. look around.
Check your SPL first, if it's the stock SPL that you have on your MT3G then you can do it, mine was 1.33.0006.
Download a custom SPL. I got mine from Haykuro's 1.33.2005
then I just followed TheUnlockr's instruction below:
Plug in your phone and mount the SD card (pull down on the notification bar and select the SD card notification then click Mount in the pop up window).
After the SD card shows up on the computer, put the SPL zip file on to the memory card (NOT in any subfolders on the memory card, just on the memory card itself) and then rename the file to update.zip (most computers, you do not type the .zip part, it automatically puts it in for you so just as long as the file is called update and there is a Zip folder icon to the left of it still, you are fine. Leave it like that).
Once it is done transferring to the memory card and you have renamed it, unplug the phone from the computer.
Turn off the phone and then turn it back on by holding down the Home and Power button to get to recovery mode (keep holding it until the recovery screen with the writing and black background come up).
Once the recovery screen is up, click on Wipe Data. Once that is done, click on Apply Update.zip and wait for it to finish.
Once it is done, click Reboot Device (if it doesn’t reboot and shuts off and shows a black screen instead, hit the power button as if to turn it on. WE NEED IT TO REBOOT AS IT LOADS SOMETHINGS DURING START UP).
Once the device has finished starting to boot up and gets to the MyTouch logo (make sure that it has rebooted once, but not all the way to the homescreen. Also it may reboot to the recovery image, that is fine). Take out the battery and put it back in if it tried to goto the homescreen but got stuck at the logo.
If you have Amon Ra's Recovery 1.4+ You don't have to rename it. Just press Flash Zip, and choose the SPL and flash it.

Actually, this is the basic procedure to install a new SPL... It's exactly the same that Amon_Ra describe in his thread...
This only works if you have a rooted phone with a custom recovery installed if I'm right...
You don't need a goldcard to flash a newer SPL if you have root.

Ohh I didn't know cause I had root, but there was never a guide I could really understand..

-_-" ........... hope fail

Nice try! But if your mobile is already rooted you don't have a perfect SPL which require goldcard or other more difficult methods to be able to flash stuff

Sorry for my noobness but I flashed the Haykuro SPL on a G1 and part of the process was reflashing a rom afterward, is this also part of the process for the MT3G?

If you already have root, all you have to do is install the new spl by recovery...

Yeah, I flashed my SPL and then flashed my ROM afterwards.

Thanks PlzHELP for bringing this up!
I already have a custom ROM installed (thus rooted) and I just want to flash my SPL so I can overcome fastboot remote: not allow error. This thread somehow clear things up for me. Thanks guys!

Worked without a problem, thanks PLZHELP!

[MT3G 32b] Root / Break perfect SPL / Way less steps

I'm creating this thread in hopes no one who owns a MyTouch, in America, on T-Mobile with a perfected SPL doesn't have to go through the brain numbing process I've just adventured through over the past week.
Special thanks to Amon_RA and Radix999 who have compiled an impressive set of information on this topic. I would have been totally lost without their contributions to this forum.
Setup:
You'll need a brand-spanking-new MyTouch 3G, 1.6 updated, un-modded, perfected SPL [Mine was: HBOOT-1.33.0006 (SAPP30000)]. To find out if your SPL is perfected power your phone off: press the vol button down > hit the power button > compare the info listed in fastboot (white screen with three skateboarding Androids) to Amon_RA's list of SPL's. If you have done anything to your phone before attempting this process go consult someone who knows wtf they are doing. I don't, but I rather tell people how this went down for me.
How I Rooted my MT3G:
1. Get your phone back to 1.5 cupcake by whatever means necessary. I used these directions: http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/22/how-to-unroot-your-mytouch-3g/
2. Follow these steps to root your device: http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/29/how-to-root-the-htc-magic-in-one-click/. When you are done with this process you should have Amon_RA's recovery and boot loader all setup. This will allow you to format your SD card to whatever file system you want, flash roms, do nandroid backups, the works.
3. Go to Amon_RA's thread about SPL's: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529019
and download a Engineering SPL for your phone. (Engineering SPL 1.33.2004 by Crios worked for me)
4. Edit the SPL file name to "update.zip"
5. Load the SPL to the root of your SD card.
6. Load up RA's boot loader. (Power + Home)
7. Wipe / Clear from the boot loader menu.
8. Apply update.zip from the boot loader menu.
9. Wait for the phone to reboot, all kinds of whacky **** will happen, don't mess with the device, etc. Eventually you should reboot into recovery mode. Whatever you do - figure out how to get to recovery mode.
10. Wipe / Clear from the boot loader menu.
11. Format the SD VIA boot loader.
12. Load a new / favorite ROM onto the SD. (I use Blueberry Hero)
13. Install the Rom VIA boot loader.
14. Crack open a beer.
No gold card, fastbook, no crazy 40 step process. There may be some security issues or something involved with this process. Whatever the case, whatever the politics are between XDA/unlockr - this WORKED for me from a STOCK 1.6 device.
With a little bit of reading you should either have turned your phone into a 400$ brick or a happy little Hero pumping Android phone.
Cheers.
donut
if you have donut 1.6, the one click root doesnt work. You may have had the .006 SPL but in Android 1.6 the exploit that one click used is corrected.

I'm able to load and run blueberry_full_V05 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=562071) with no issues.
Interface is a little wonky with his custom buttons... but it's faster than Max's Hero rom for me.
The key for me is no following anyones directions. I just load the ROM onto my properly formatted SD (done via boot loader) > Install the .zip file via boot loader. Done.
Note: Just remember to download the right version of the rom. (A or B)
what do you mean by "Wipe / Clear from the boot loader menu"?
is it select the "wipe data/factory reset? or "wipe sd:..."?

What he means is data wipe from the options in the boot loader before you update in that section.
I used these procedures and I am now running Hero Rom. thanks man.
so what's the point of doing this? My HBOOT is 1.33.0006 same as lowrez but i've been able to run roms with no problem. sorry for the noob ques.
Confirmed the update.zip method.
This worked on my Mytouch which was previously rooted but running a perfected spl not allowing fastboot operations. SPL was changed to 004 and Dwang's ROM is working fine with Amon_Ra's 1.2.3 recovery.
Good work dude.

thanks for the how too... worked great for me... running Engineering SPL 1.33.2009... thanks again!
I've run Eugene373's 2.0, MLIGN's 3.1.1, and am now running OTPA 3.0, and I have yet to tinker with the SPL. Only problems I've had is with MLIGN's Hero, the screen would get all blurry, which is why I switched to OTPA.
What I'd like to know, is in your opinion, what are the advantages of switching SPL's? Is it just to enable fastboot? After each instillation, the least internal mem. i was left with was 288mb so it's not a space issue, like the G1, correct?
A life saver...
Thanks for the write up. I couldn't find any coherent answer on the issue of the perfect 0006 SPL and yours was the only thread that was specific to my needs (T-Mobile MT3G 32B).
There's no way this work on MT3G 32a?
thanks, has anyone tried or can confirm this works on mytouch 1.2?
Is there any method that will work on mytouch 1.2 without having to do all that goldcard stuff, like is there a 1 click rooting for mytouch 1.2?
thanks

can you please explain more about installing the rom via boot loader? which option to use and what should the file name be?
dude if your device is rooted, you can flash any ROM with .0006. There is no need to do this. The 1-Click root worked fine way way back when I did. There hasnt been a ROM that I haven't been able to flash.
I guess this can be useful for people who are still buying the old myTouch 3G (which is dumb, with all the new devices out there now)
I bought my mytouch used from ebay and it is 1.33.0007 and i couldnt get pass the first step. i got through the update, but it said it failed to update.

[Guide] How to apply the new OTA 3.29.651.5 when you have clockwork and s-off

This guide will allow you to install the new OTA 3.29.651.5 when you have clockwork installed and will guide you into re-rooting the phone afterwards. (This does NOT wipe your data)
I am sorry if someone already posted this.
Requirements
1. Froyo 2.2 version 3.26.651.6 (Stock)
2. Clockwork
3. S-OFF
Files to Download (If you have a file manager on your phone you can just direct download them with the EVOs browser)
1. OTA_Supersonic_3.29.651.5 This is the new OTA update
2. ClockworkMod recovery for EVO 4G Clockwork (I know you already have it. This is to reinstall it)
3. su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip Superuser (This is also to reinstall)
Step one
Place OTA_Supersonic_3.29.651.5 on your SD cards root folder. Power off and reboot holding Volume down. Once the bootloader is up goto recovery so clockwork loads up. Choose apply zip from sd card. Choose select zip on sd card. You will see the OTA file on the list flash it. Just wait for it to install it will reboot the phone show a progress bar reboot again they show a percentage etc it takes a few minutes.
Now you have the update installed, but the update removed clockwork and root.
Step two
Place ClockworkMod recovery for EVO 4G on your sd card root folder. Power off and reboot holding Volume down. The bootloader will scan the new will and ask you to press Volume up to install. Install it.
Now you have clockwork installed again. Please remove the clockwork file from the root of your SD card before going to step 3.
Step Three
Place su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip on the SD cards root folder. Power off and reboot holding Volume down. Once the bootloader is up goto recovery so clockwork loads up. Choose apply zip from sd card. Choose select zip on sd card. You will see the SU file on the list flash it.
Now you are updated and rerooted. (I have been told it is possible to just rerun unrevoked instead of doing step 2 and 3. I did not test that method. I am simply showing a different method.)
Update
I am now getting 53 FPS with FPS 2D
Nice, similar to what I did, thanks for posting this guide. Saves time, I will refer people to this thread.

Good guide...but have you seen http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790342 Apparently there is issue at present after the OTA that prevents S-On so you can return your phone, if necessary.
Guide would be even more helpful if you put in the Amon RA option for those that prefer it, then retitle thread.

Amon RA gets more difficult as it requires you to flash the engineering bootloader 0.76.2000 to have it work properly...

So if we have the Eng bootloader this will work? ie, it's not just for unrevoked users?
Do you have to make a nandroid backup or anything before doing this? Also when you flash back the clockwork mod will it gives full root access s-off again? Thanks
I'm seeing alot of posts saying we have to wipe before we flash the rooted ROM. How come the OTA doesn't require losing all your settings/data, but flashing the update does? That's the only thing holding me back...

No it will not, you will lose root if you have not run unrevoked forever to set s-off permanently. The eng boot loader's s-off would be overwritten and root would be lost.

I used the Amon_RA with 0.76.2000 engineering bootloader PC36IMG.ZIP found in the forums. Then just reflashed the su app, coming from the 3.26 stock rooted via unrevoked 3.21.

This does NOT I repeat NOT wipe the phone.
This is not a rooted ROM. This is the official update. (This is why you don't have to wipe the phone)
The issue is with clockwork installed you cant install the official update unless you install it through clockwork. This is what step 1 in the guide tells you how to do.
Step 2 and 3 tell you how to get clockwork and root back after the update removes them. (Note you must have S-OFF or step 2 and 3 will not work)
Perfect for us unrEVOked users. The only change I saw was the superuser icon/interface is slightly different than the little ninja guy that unrEVOked gives us.
Thanks!

I understand now... that makes sense. If that's the case, then I'm thinking updates are cumulative.. I'm still on 1.47, since the original Froyo broke audio streaming. I was waiting for that fix to be officially pushed down before I update (by the way, does this update officially fix that?). I'm assuming I have to install the previous update first, before I do this one.

Yes you must have the previous update. (to make sure no one messed up I made sure to state that in the requirements)
What audio streaming is broken? I am not having any issues on this update or original Froyo?
Wish I saw this before I flashed the rooted version. Oh well, I know now for next time.

Pandora and Lastfm audio quality bit-rates were downgraded pretty badly. I use those alot. Google created a patch, and the devs here jumped on it, but it seemed that every implementation was breaking something else, so I wanted to wait for an official HTC push.
Failed to install update from SD card
so I've tried this w/ ROM Manager, boot to recovery, select OTA zip, blah blah blah
when it goes to precheck for update it fails w/ something similar to:
Finding...

assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/app/HtcFootPrints.odex", "14a8............", "b67e214............")
E:Error in /sdcard/OTA_Supersonic_3.29.651.5.zip

I'm guessing this is because I previously removed some of the stock apps it's trying to update...
Any workaround?
Great guide, thanks for the contrib.
did not work for me, apparently because i don't have flicker and some other system apps installed the update fails, i get an error when it verifies the system.

[HOW TO] Update Perfect SPL without Gold card

How to fix perfect SPL without Gold card. Include new 1.33.2013 SPL.
It’s possible to flash engineering SPLs, to replace your prefect SPL (1.33.2006, 1.33.2010, 1.33.2013, other) without Gold card. I did it on my 32B, sure method will work on 32A and other devices.
First short idea, then in steps.
First root your phone (soft root), then through Market download ROM Manager app, install Clockwork (or alternate Amon_RA) recovery, and immediately press boot into recovery. Phone will reboot into recovery, and now you can flash engineering SPL from SD card.
Now by steps
1. Download Engineering SPL from Amon_RA collection here. Put it (zip file) to your FAT32 formatted SD card. (1.33.2005 is common working)
2. Download newest version of SuperOneClick rooting program from here. Install program to your PC.
3. Connect phone, run program and use button Shell Root. This will soft root your phone. (Please read details instructions in program topic).
4. From phone, through Market, install 'ROM Manager' application. (Internet connection required).
5. Run app, press install Clockwork (or alternate Amon_RA) recovery. App will download latest recovery and install it. Immediately press boot to recovery.
6. Phone will boot into recovery, choose 'flash zip from SD' and choose your previously downloaded Engineering SPL.
7. After flash will ask to reboot, and choose reboot from menu.
8. After reboot phone will finish flashing SPL, and DONE!
NOW U can reboot into recovery yourself, by pressing 'HOME' + 'POWER' keys (from switched off phone). From recovery U can flash Radio, ROMS, do backup, etc.
If U would flash ROM, recommend to try Cyanogen MOD ROM first. There are detailed instructions for flashing on Cyanogen WIKI page.
If on step 6 phone not boot into Recovery, but showing splash screen with '!' sigh. Reboot phone and back to step 3 and go through steps again, but on step 5 flash OTHER recovery then used previously (Clockwork OR Amon_ra). Please keep in mind, (1) that Soft Root working until reboot, and (2) that You have to reboot into recovery immediately after flashing it. Other ways U have to start again, from step 3.
Would mention, that most ROMs not working with newest radio, and You have to flash old radio to ROMs start loading on your device.
Thanks to CLShortFuse, Amon_RA and all other developers.
After spending one day for SPL hack and flashing 12 different ROMs I've ended with recovering original latest Google ROM FR83D. Because no other could compare to fast and stable of original unrooted rom.
AMAZING!
This worked for me with the 2010 SPL for my MyTouch 3G 1.2. I don't know how or why, but this is amazing. I've bricked my phone from trying to change the SPL, and this worked perfectly. I think there is a simpler method to this though.
I got full root using Universal Androot, then flashed the stock +Rooted MyTouch 3G 1.2 ROM. If you do this, then you can start from step 6.
THIS IS AMAZING. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
when i flash the recovery and boot into it just goes to the green mytouch splash screen and does nothing.. if i try to boot into recovery manually with power and home it goes to the black screen with the exclamation triangle and a phone...
Thanks, it works with me.
Regards.

So I tried flashing a new SPL following this method. I got softroot and installed Amon Ra's recovery via ROM Manager. I then booted into recovery and flashed Engineering SPL 1.33.2010 (seemed like the newest version) now my phone is stuck in a boot loop.
I can get into recovery but the phone will not boot into the OS or anything.
Prior to this, my HBOOT was 1.33.0013 (the one that came with the official 2.2.1 update from T-Mobile)
Any thoughts on how I could fix this? This isn't my primary phone since I have a G2 but I would like to get my old MyTouch3G to work.
----UPDATE----
I got into fastboot (forgot that I needed to hold the back button) and I see that HBOOT is now 1.33.2010 and I have S-OFF. Is there some incompatibility with my radio (shows 2.22.29.25) and this HBOOT?
After SPL flash U have to flash ROM and some times radio too. New ROMs will not work with older SPLs and new radios some time not work with some ROMs. So, flash new ROM from Recovery.
I would recommend to flash Cyanogen MOD ROM for first try. There are detailed instructions for flashing on Cyanogen WIKI page? dont flash SPL, because U already did, start from step ROM flash.
Good luck

Error occurred while attempting to run priveledged commands
Rogers HTC Magic
pvt 32a
spl: 1.76.0010 (50000)
radio: 6.35.16.19
build:3.54.631.4
I run soft root on superoneclick and it says I'm rooted. Installed Rom Manager. Attempted to 'Flash ClockworkMod' and got the following message: 'An Error occurred while attempting to run priveledged commands'. Re-ran Superoneclick and it says device is already rooted. Any ideas?

After spending one day for SPL hack and flashing 12 different ROMs I've ended with recovering original latest Google ROM FR83D. Because no other could compare to fast and stable of original unrooted rom.

Well that was helpful...
... NOT.
I mean, duh, I know how to search, and it's not in the first page, so it must be a really old ROM or it doesn't has FR83D in the name.

How to Unroot Your Phone if Using Unrevoked 3

So, I had some trouble unrooting my Evo 4G today because I wanted to bring my phone in for a replacement. It's been awhile since I last rooted the device so I figured I could just download the appropriate zip files and get on with it. I ran into a few snags.
A little background of the phone:
-Rooted via Unrevoked 3
-Running the latest Radio 2.15.00.05.02
-S-OFF
So, this method works if you rooted your phone via Unrevoked3 or Unrevoked Forever. I was reading all over and many people flashed to sense ROMs and did many steps that weren't really needed. The way I did was very simple.
**If you did not root your phone via Unrevoked skip to Step 7.
1. Downgrade your Radio to 2.15.00.07.28 (Anything earlier than the previous update should work) at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=7154 All the radios should be located at the previous link.
2. Download the Unrevoked Forever S-ON zip file that is provided.
3. Move the S-ON zip file to the root of your SD card.
4. Flash the zip file so that your device now reads S-ON, NOT S-OFF.
5. Wipe Cache, Dalvik Cache, and Data.
6. Reboot into Bootloader and verify that you are now S-ON.
7. Download the PC36IMG.zip from http://www.4shared.com/file/5U4M4eVi/PC36IMG.html?cau2=403tNull
8. Move the PC36IMG zip file to the root of your SD card.
9. Reboot into Bootloader and the phone should recognize the PC36IMG and begin to finish the UNROOT process.
10. Follow on-screen instructions and apply the update and reboot the phone.
11. You are now UNROOTED!!!
I hope this little tutorial helped. It definitely is nice to finally unroot the device after all the problems I was running into.
NOW sticky it. lol
Does this enable S-On ?

Step six...
Unroot for repair
Just in case anyone doing this for the first time, I recently took my evo in and exchanged for another. Make sure you remove all evidence of root from your sd card i.e. root explorer, my back up root TI(any root programs) and get the pc36img off there too. Now depending how cool your Sprint techs are they might not care. My particular store said they would blacklist my phone if they suspected it of root. That will ruin your plans of getting any service in the future, let alone the reason you came in. Their little "diagnostics" term to me says,"Let me check if I am going to dash your hopes of repair today." Or to be safer you could just pull the sd. Hopefully if you do forget you have cool techs that appreciate what we do here.
Just a heads up, the radio link is broken. I've been using the same one as well in my bookmarks. That thread is apparently no longer there?
when i try to flash the radio is comes up with a message saying something about "it was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the CWM 3.0 gingerbread based recovery, please switch to edify scripting" do i have to downgrade my CWM?
I'll give this process a 7 on the pucker scale, but it does work
I downgraded my cm image before I started just so I wouldn't have to deal with any errors
I then flashed the 2.15.00.07.28 radio
then flashed the s-on tool
then applied the pc36img.zip in bootloader
took a while but I am back up, and running unrooted

All this does is change S-OFF to S-ON. I still have SuperUser and can still run root apps with ease. I assume this hack is just for taking the phone in?

Actually, after flashing the PC36IMG, that removes the root and puts the phone back to the initial state. It does put the phone to S-ON and remove SuperUser.

If you do take it in do not let them update anything. I even signed a paper saying I didn't want a hard reset.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
Will this wipe all my contacts, messages, and apps? What app should I use to back everything up (Mybackup Pro, or Titanium Backup)?
Yes you will lose everything. Google should save your contacts to the cloud. Any installed apps can be redownloaded. You will lose any saved messages/text/etc.
Keep in mind "S-OFF" and having root privileges are two different things. You can be rooted and be S-ON, and S-OFF and not rooted (which would mean you flashed a ROM that didn't have the su binary which almost doesn't exist outside of stock).
Why is it necessary to downgrade the radio? Just curious. Mine is currently running 2.15.00.11.19.
Question two... is that PC36IMG linked the stock 2.3.3?
Here is the post containing the Radios and more...
[ Radios ][ 7-4 ] All EVO Radio, WiMAX, PRI, NV & HBoot versions
For anyone having trouble flashing the Radios using ClockworkMod either:
1) Downgrade your CWM to 2.5.0.7 (within ROM Manager)
or
2) Using ROM Manager (or manually) Flash Alternative [Recovery] [09-Feb-2011] RA-supersonic-v2.3
To be able to use CWM nandroids in Amon_RA's Recovery you need to:
1) Make a folder on the root of your SD Card called Nandroid
2) Create a Nandroid using Amon_RA
3) Amon_RA will create another folder inside Nandroid
4) Place your nandroid that you made in CMW inside the folder that Amon_RA creates along with that nandroid too
Hope this helps people... If in fact it does please leave a thanks
Warning warning warning proceed at own risk etc etc
I used these instructions but in a different way.
1) I downgraded the radio. I still don't know why, it wasn't stated, but I went ahead and did it.
2) I downloaded the new radio and the unrevoked s-on tool (since I used unrevoked to root this phone in the first place)
3) I copied both the radio and s-on to my sd card while Evo was plugged into my PC via Disk Storage
4) On Amon's 2.3 recovery, I flashed the radio, let it do its thing and reboot and do its next lil thing it wants to do
5) Flashed the s-on. After it was done, I went back to the main menu of Amon's recovery and selected power off
6) Holding VOL+D and power, booted into the bootloader and saw it was S-ON.
7) Went through hboot to boot into recovery, then power off
8) Pulled battery to get to the sd card and put it into my PC so I could copy the PC36IMG.zip to it. Im really not convinced that its a big deal to copy this zip along with the radio and unrevoked s-on tool at the same time, except that it might idiot-proof flashing the pc36img prematurely. Then again, the instructions state to move it to the sd card...how? It can be done over ADB but theres not instructions given.
9) Put Sd card with PC36img copied to it onto the Evo, held VOL+D and power, booted into bootloader, it found PC36img, applied update and rebooted.
The linked PC36img is to android 2.2, on which im now unrooted.

I think that the reason why you need an older radio is because if they saw that you had the newest radio released w/ the 2.3.3 and your on 2.2 it might look a little funny... this is my educated guess

that makes sense. so there isnt a 2.3.3 image to flash? or is there a reason to not want to do it if there it is?

well when sprint released the latest OTA its a packaged deal you get all of the stuff (radio hboot PRI/NV ect.) well if you only have 1 of the many different things like the latest radio but not the latest hboot or w/e then i would assume that the phone has been rooted. so you wouldnt want the 4.24 software update and have all of the older firmware... im really not too sure and i could be wrong but this would seem pretty logic (to me)
oh and flashing the 2.3.3 image would render it unrootable

To answer your first question, after doing my research and by trial and error, I ran into several errors and problems having the latest radios and HBOOT. The alternative to fix this problem was to downgrade the radio.
The reason why it's easier to move the PC36IMG after you are S-ON is to make sure that you do not make the mistake of updating prematurely. Mistakes can happen and if you move too fast, accidents may happen. This was done to insure that needless accidents don't happen. The way you move the file to the SD card is by enabling USB mode while in recovery mode (Amon RA and Clockwork). The disk drive appears on your computer, and you click and drag the files just like normal.
The PC36IMG contains Android 2.2

Thanks for this man. I was having trouble finding a working link.

noob in need of help sorry to break the rules =/

i am a real noob =/!!!! i have a htc sensation, s off with clock work recovery, i have recently been trying to use i.c.s. i tried super cid-ing with i thought had worked but didn't, so i downloaded a zip file to upgrade my firmware, flashed the zip but it said it failed. so i just wiped and restored my old rom. a good few hrs later my sensation decided to fart so i did a battery pull to find my phone booting into h boot with a white screen with and unpacked zip file. i unpacked and rebooted now im stuck in a boot loop can any one please help ???? want my phone back
bootanimation loop? You really did a wipe? sounds like you forget it.
Just wipe it and flash again. Just to be certain, also wipe dalvik cache.
Otherwise your backup is meaby corrupt or something, I already had some corrupt backups with clockworkmod. For your original rom, do nandroid backup with aw amon ra recovery. That is saver.
Assuming that your backup is not corrupt, follow this guide
Do you want to go back to Gingerbread?
You need to flash the proper firmware Hboot 1.17.
If you are superCID'ed: Download it HERE. (Thanks to ziggy1001 for the firmware package)
If you are not superCID'ed: Download the corresponding file according to your cid and mid HERE. (Thanks to Kohr-Ah for the User-Friendly Firmware)
Follow the same steps you've followed to upgrade the firmware, but this time with the Hboot 1.17 PG58IMG.zip file.
Flash superwipe script for sensation
Flash Gingerbread ROM
Flash recommended radio
Or you can just restore your Gingerbread NANDROID backup, if you have one, AFTER downgrading the firmware and flashing the radio.

You need the correct firmware and radio for your ROM. Alternatively, you could use that guide to try upgrading to ICS again.
yes always wipe b4 restrore or new flash just to make sure there is no conflictin files, have tried all that but it goes back into boot loop. tried flashing the rom i had first. just bootloop then when i go back to recovery there just this update. im guessing from the firm ware zip that didnt work. thanks for the help guys its doin my head in
Just to make sure, you removed the PG58IMG.zip from your SD card, right?
so if i take it of it will sort it self out???
Yes! It should. You definitely need to remove that zip.
From the same guide that I linked to before:
Remove the sd card from the phone
Hold volume-down + power to boot into bootloader.
Wait 10 seconds until the bootloader is fully loaded
Now your bootloader screen should read:
-Revolutionary-
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.27.1100
RADIO-11.22.3504.07M
Insert the sd card now
Connect your phone to the PC via USB
Navigate with the volume button and select recovery with the power button
Wait for the recovery to boot
Select -Toggle usb storage-
Phone is now connected in USB storage mode
Delete the PG58IMG.zip file from the sd card in you computer
Select disconnect
Press back to return to the main screen of 4ext recovery
You are good to go, continue to the Flashing the ROM section.

Safe, thank you very much will crack on with it and let you know how it goes. Thank you again.
thank ou very much, have sorted the boot loop, have flashed with miui but its keeps restarting it self =/ why is this ????
you mean it Starts up fine, then after some given amount of time it restarts? Or during booting?
yes that is what i mean sorry. goin to flash back to my old rom.
If you can boot it, and actually use the phone for some amount of time, then it reboots randomly. Sounds like a Rom, or undervolt issue. Maybe try a Different Rom
Thanks all for your help, have flashed a new Rom and really happy with it. Gonna leave it alone so I dont break it again
Glad to hear that
