Hello guys,
I was thinking to purchase the HTC HERO on 3 here in the UK.
I have read many forums, thread, and watched many videos but i am still unsure on many things...
The first is,
How to I successfully root my HTC HERO-non GSM- on 3?
Does it have to be on a specific FW?
How can i install a mordaco (i think) rom onto my HTC HERO?
Does it have to be unlocked with the lastest radio? Why is that necessary?
Thanks,
Regards
Welcome aboard
Have a deep read here:

Also enter to Hero section where you´ll find your answers
Good luck,
Many thanks my friend but the first method confuses me.it aint very clear.
Method1. I booted the img using fastboot. What on earth is that?
EDIT
Ok i have read the whole guide however both first methods seem too confusing and too long
*please dont mistake me for a noob as i have hacked and softmodded wiis psps xbow360s iphones ipod touches and my n95*
Its just that i am really busy with my exams now. Thats why i am just checking out if i will be able to softmod a htc hero before i get it.just to be safe.
Back to the topic. Is there a easier quicker way because i have read a thread on rooting the hero using 1 apk and some anon ra. Will it work?
?

Be aware that some of this is specific to the HTC Dream and not HTC Magic / Sapphire
That's the reason why! We need specific tutorials for MAGIC.
For example I'd liek to try some coocked ROMS on my Voda Magic.
But I need to do first a backup of my original ROM so i can revert back to the factory ROM.
But I'm a little confused about it and a tutorial would help me much!
Just waiting....
Tutorials!
I would like to see some of these tutorials too!
I have recently changed ova from wm6 and used to flash my old phone all the time!
I want to see some tutorials specific to the magic and sum roms specific to the magic.
Or is the hardware similar enough to use the g1 roms?? I have read you can, but i would have thought the magic would have some hardware that the g1 doesnt??
I dont wanna miss out any features!
Can this thread be stickied! plz op!
I would also like to have tut. specific for Magic rooting too.
great idea
+1 for tut.
thanks for the link daldroid. this has really helped an android n00b like me
it would be nice to know what on the tutorial page works for the magic. HardSPL obviously won't, but does nandroid if you have root ?
I know the answers are littered around this forum but would be nice to have a central source. ho humm - maybe I will in a few weeks if my kids leave me alone for 5 mins ........
I've been using various Cyanogen and Hero ROMs since June and have now reverted back to the stock Vodafone UK ROM. In general the stock stuff is fine, it's quick and bluetooth audio works for phone and media. I need root access though to use Bluex for bluetooth file send/receive and pushing the HTC_IME keyboard
What I'd like to know is does anyone know how to root the new Donut release?
I've tried the Haykuro's rootmesigned but get a FC and constant reboot...it was worth a try
there is already a full solution for you.

I used it on mine and works perfectly, no flaws. Install that and you are done.
yeah there is a way. but im not going to answer because this is in the wrong section. read the stickies up top, search around, then post in the right section and maybe you will get more answers.

Aw gee thanks...NOT
If you don't have anything contructive to add then don't.
I spent hours searching and read through countless threads. For your info I have been installing ROMS since they came out in May (before the Wiki was in place), have contributed and would you believe it I have even been thanked for my help, I am comfortable with using ADB, Fastboot etc, am familiar with linux and have read the stickies.
Is asking about a rooted ROM not developement? Have YOU read the stickies because from what I have read, surprise surprise, in this section there is a sticky up above here about hacking and rooting. As far as I'm aware any developement focused questions would be posted in the developement section not general.
If I'm wrong them I'm quite happy to follow the MODS rules and their directions.
Are you going to repeat your post with questions about OTA updates being in the wrong section too?
P.S. the very helpful 'htcmagic' had already spoiled it for you
@BigRD: no problem mate, glad i could help. I installed the rom above and i am extremely happy with it. I have also installed busybox on it too.
Its much faster that vodafones original.
Hey mate, try Amon_Ra's Donut Rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538645
Very fast and stable with Root and others. I'm using it on my vodafone magic. Works really nice.
Or alternatively just go back to Cyanogen. Its Donut and it has more features than any other rom on this site so...its all up to you
@widezu69 & @htcmagic Cool, thanks guys.
I spent a lot of time with Cyanogen's ROMs up until the Google thing happened and was running eViL's Hero ROMs up to v3.0. I wanted to get back to a smoothish stock ROM issued by my network supplier but rooted by one of the great developers on XDA. I keep finding that other than the Vodafone original and the Google ION ROM bluetooth audio for phone and multi media working at the same time is very hit or miss. Am going to give both versions posted here a try over the next few days
Another one who wants a Rooted Vodafone Donut
I am also searching for a method to root a stock Vodafone Magic 32B that has had an OTA Donut update.
The answers on the thread so far involve flashing a new Donut Rom - my issue is that I have Donut already, and have never rooted - I am assuming the Root instructions included in the Wiki and Relentless Rooter are only aimed at Cupcake.....or am I wrong?
Any help/advice appreciated....
rooting the magic 1.6
Hi folks, dito as above. I've been up half the night trying to work this out. Have recently bought an htc magic from vodafone, and been 'updated' to doughnut 1.6. Not bad, but I'm really keen to get root on this, and eventually install the latest rom from cyanogen...
Seems there are now a few issues for people like me wanting to root their handsets... so far I've managed to erase my user settings, but keep getting errors trying to flash a rom. Followed the link above to nk02's thread, and no luck. Same issue, update aborts. There must be an easier way...
nk02 says his ROM works with 'wipe + flash'. How the heck do I do that? Seems this latest update to 1.6 has made all the other methods of gaining root obsolete... I'm far from a linux novice, and would love some advice here. And please don't tell me to keep searching, solid help would be appreciated. Cheers.
Hi I am trying to root my HTC Evo it say its the older version can some one please tell me how to root my phone. I have been trying to find out myself but I have had no luck. Can u plz help!! what do I have to do !!
Not to sound like a complete ****, but you must not be trying very hard. Check out the HTC Supersonic (Evo) section. Go to the Android Development subforum, and there are at least 4 or 5 methods to root older Evos. At least one should be within the first three pages.
yea man, please spend some time reading the evo forums, like at least a few hours.
The easiest way to root, since you obviously dont know much about it, is to to the Unrevoked method. Read about it here, then go to unrevoked.com.
trying to root my htc sprint hero 1.5 help
Hey man everyone started from the same spot your in. People on here are SUPER helpful, but easily get annoyed by people asking the same questions and not posting them in the right section. USE SEARCH! its your best friend, every question has been asked over 3 times. My advice, read everything on rooting (terminology, dangers, benefits, which type of root fits your needs, which ROM you want to flash) after a week or so on researching, find an RUU file in a thread. Then load that on your phone and follow the command prompt instructions carefully. Remember to use search, and rooting can brick, break, your phone. But the benefits of rooting are well worth It.

Go to the development section and look at the top posts(stickies), they have all the instructions there.

Upgrade to 2.1 first. Easier to root for me plus you're already upgraded then.

3 days ago I also had 1.5 which was rooted already. I then upgraded to the newest fw and then rerooted using the one click method that you will find here in xda forums. Worked without probs and was EXTREMELY easy.

Hey dude, I'd recommend using this link right here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
It tells how to get your phone to the stock 2.1 and then how to root that.
If you read down through the first 2 or 3 posts, all the instructions are there and it's really hard to mess them up if you follow exactly what is typed.
You don't even HAVE to upgrade to 2.1, but I'd recommend doing it first.
If you don't want to mess with the link I included above, you can just root it from 1.5 like it is now using some of the one-click methods out there on the forum. If you go to the Development section of this HTC Hero forum and look around for any threads with ROOT in the title, you should be able to find anything you need.
Also check out the Take Control link down in my signature below -- it has a lot of helpful posts and info too.
hey all,
i have been researching rooting for my EVO 4G, and have always come across the unrevoked method. But unrevoked never works for me, i can never install the hboot drivers. i was wondering if i have to have hboot drivers installed to use this method, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.phpt=838448&highlight=how+to+root, if i have to have hboot i am kind of screwed, but are there any alternative methods of rooting the EVO 4G?
Thanks in advance!!!!
EDIT: the link wont work, but the method is called "universal autoroot v2.5"
The best place to look would be in the forums specific for the evo
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=619
You will be able to find all of the answers you need there. Alot of people don't check out the other forums, they just hang around their phone's forum (myself included most of the time) Good luck, hope you find what you are looking for.
Thanks, i am new to this forum, so im not really sure where anything is, this is a huge forum
