Hi!
I wonder how to remove the grey, thin lined boxes in which the shortcuts (3x3, 4x4, 5x4) are displayed?
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to remove the shortcuts, I only want to get rid of the thin grey frame.
And the second question is, how to modify the shortcut text background at the today-screen? I mean the little, black bar below the shortcuts. Which file has to be modified to change this?
Any help appreciated.
regards,
Oliver
by the way. is there a trick to remove them at all? with the shortcuts?
Yeah, right, those grey outlines are quite ugly especially when the icon does not fit exactly into the corners of the box. So, has somebody an idea how to remove them?
Copy the *_manila files from inside the attached file to \Windows replacing the existing files. And then restart.

Try using Resco Explorer or Total Commander to copy the files.
How to remove the grey frame - all files inside
I finally managed to get rid of the frames and the black text background:

Just copy those 2 manila-files into your windows folder using Total Commander.

Very strange.
Try to rename to *.rar. It was a rar-file initially but this board doesn't allow *.rar-files to be attached.

You could try to rename the original manila-files to *.bak, then copy the modified ones into windows folder and then deleting the original files. Use Total Commander for this. Afterwards softreset. For me it worked perfect. That means, I have the grey frames when no shortcut is set but they disappear when a shortcut is set.
When I copied the 2 files that you supplied, I wasn't prompted about overwriting, so I have to assume (obviously) that the files didn't exist in my windows folder.
When I copied the files supplied by Renegade, it did prompt me to overwrite the files that I'd previously copied, supplied by you.
Literally, the files that you gave me made no difference. No idea why though.
There isn't a message to overwrite! You have to search the original files, rename them and delete them manually. It works 100%.

The files did not exist on my phone until I copied them there from your zip file. That's why there was "no message to overwrite" - because it wasn't overwriting.

Ok, maybe this is because i have a german ROM. Sorry for any inconvinience.
hi
i overwrite the two 2 manila files ! all corrected !
but i saw still the border
sorry for my bad english ! i make a screen to show it
Do you have the new ROM? I discovered that it's no longer possible to overwrite those two files when having flashed to the new ROM.
With ROM 1.43 it works just great! Thank you renegade so much!
Although with all 4 file overwritten it removes not only the grey outline from the placeholder of the icons but also the semi transparent box itself and its little plus sign as well but i like it that way.

MetaMorph has been updated so that all old MetaMorphs that use a .thm control file WILL NOT WORK! This guide has been updated to instruct you on how to convert your themes to the new format
MetaMorph uses .zip files for its themes which the app unzips and places in a folder.
Inside the .zip is a .xml file and several folders for the apps you want to edit. (For example, you'll see com.htc.resources and Rosie folders in themes that change the bottom bar.) Treat these folders as if they were the .apks themselves. They use the same folder structure. So if you have a file in the folder Rosie/res/drawable/ in your theme's .zip, then MetaMorph will open up Rosie.apk and stick it in the /res/drawable/ folder. Get it?
So that's how you place the files. And the great part about MetaMorph is that you only need to put in the files that you're changing. That's all it needs. This keeps the themes very small and easy to edit, since you can see exactly which files need to be changed!
To create your theme control file, download the attached theme_control_template.xml.txt (rename it to remove the .txt extension) and fill in the required fields using any xml editor (I recommend Notepad++). Name the .xml file the EXACT SAME NAME as the name of the theme. If they do not match they the theme won't work.
Once you have your .xml file created, zip up the folder, place it in the AndroidThemes folder on your sdcard and start MetaMorph. MetaMorph will unzip it, create a new, unzipped folder in AndroidThemes, and add a .nomedia file in there.
This is a very simple process that can easily be done in as little as 5 minutes.
Here is a more in-depth guide if you so desire (by the author of the app): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591329
And here is a collection of MetaMorphs created (Note: most of these WILL NOT work on Sense ROM's! Read what ROM each theme is created for carefullly! If you have a question, ask and someone will tell you if the theme is usable on your Hero): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=589315
Thanks for the tutorial. I've always wondered why more people don't use metamorph (for the Hero at least). It's such a great application. Hopefully we'll see some new themes popping up soon. Thanks!
So If I wanted to change a file in rosie.apk I would only need to place the modded file in the apk into metamorph? All the other junk can be left out?
Just did a little more reading and looking at some examples and looks like I got it. Thank for the information
Yea I hope to see more themes using this, seems alot easier and more flexible for designers/themers

Please Nandroid before installing. Both were verified with Damage Control v.2.05. Should work for any ROM based on DC v2.05, not verified on 1.5/6 ROMs although I think they would work if the font files are in the /system/fonts directory and named the same as the Morphs. Stock fonts have also been provided.
I am having bit a problem with MetaMorph. After I open up Metamorph, it says that it needs to check a few things to make sure the phone meets all the requirement. After I press "Start Checks" it opens up Superuser but does nothing. I know superuser is working fine cuz it works for wifi tether. What am i doing wrong?
What ROM version do you have installed? After it checked for updates did you get the option to select "allow", "Always Allow", etc.? If there was something wrong Metamorph would probably have given you and error.
Re: [Guide] MetaMorphing!
so use meta to change those fonts you zipped. wondering if there is a way to apply the font changes to only certain parts of the phone. would this make it easier to change the colors of backgrounds and menus etc?

Does anybody have a good resource for metamorph themes?
Edit: nevermind, missed the link on the first post. Any other suggestions are welcomed
Every theme I download and put on my sd card gives me a invalid theme or theme is missing error. I would know exactly what it said if it stayed up for more than a second and 1/2. I am downloading themes based on the Rom I have yet NOTHING will work. Am I missing a step here. I download, put it in the AndroidThemes dir on the sd card then open Metamorph Pro and extract. I then get the message about it being invalid or it is missing.

Looking for a little help here. I want to change my bluetooth images in the framework-res.apk.
I keep getting this error.....
"The theme you selected is invalid because the the theme control file could not be read and may be missing"
This is what I have in my .thm file...
framework-res.apk
/system/framework/
This is the directory structure for my zip file (test.zip)....
-test
- framework-res
- res
- drawable-mdpi
My .thm file is in the test directory my images are in the drawable-mdpi directory.
Any idea what I might be doing wrong? Is BusyBox required for this to work? I saw some posts that led me to believe it was but others don't say anything about it. I am rooted and downloaded Metamorph and it seem to run okay accept for the error when trying to load my zip file.
Thanks.
Ok, for the people who are getting invalid theme messages:
Recently, Stericson changed MetaMorph - Donate to MetaMorph Pro. MetaMorph Pro uses a different theme format than MetaMorph free does! Instead of using .thm files, it uses .xml files. This means that any themes that were made for MetaMorph free WILL NOT work for MetaMorph Pro! Kinda lame, I know, but that's the case for right now.
My best advice for you is to just install the free version for now. I know you paid $3 for the Pro version and I don't want you to waste your money, so as soon as I am able to I will look into converting these into themes compatible with MetaMorph Pro.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

VZW Tab - Calendar
Hey guys, I backed up my calendar.apk , and odex, and then deleted them and installed the new touchwiz calendar.apk It didnt work(which is ok) I then deleted touchwiz calendar.apk , and odex , and replaced it with the original calendar.apk and odex, and rebooted my system. My calendar is still showing up with no wood border, and whenever i try to access "calendars(in order to choose which calendars I want to display) it force closes. Can anyone help me out, maybe send me all the original apk's and odex files for calendar?
[email protected]
I don't know if Buzz mentioned on his first post, but the file posted most likely will only work on GSM tabs. The CDMA tabs (Sprint/Verizon) seem to have different framework files so both the modified Calendar and Contacts apks posted won't work. I asked one individual to send me the framework files from his Sprint tab but haven't heard back. If you'd like to volunteer your framework files and your calendar.apk and .odex, I can probably deodex them for you and put BF's modified pngs into it.
Does your Verizon tab have different calendar apps installed? The GSM-based ones have just TouchWizCalendar.apk/odex, but you mention a Calendar.apk/odex?
Hi,
Just wanting to say, mod is awesome - clean and simple
Just curious though - have you simply removed/replaced the images in the apks or have there been other tweaks..?
Having noticed that the Dialer pane in Contacts, Launcher, Mail and Camera don't scale as screen density increases. Would altering these apps so that they scale be do-able?
Thanks

Region doesn't matter.
How: e.g. contacts.apk
open contacts.apk with winrar, and u will see inside some folders.
All image files are always in res folder. U can unzip res folder to desktop and inside res folders are subfolders like drawable, drawable-hdpi...
there u have all images from apk. Im sure u know how to see image size and image formats (jpg, png..)
Than check what do u want to change, take one of your pics, resize it to same size, rename in same name as original and replace with existing one. Easy...
After editing just put new image back into folder in rar.
Navigate to eg. drawable-hdpi in winrar and put inside new image. Winrar will be auto replace file with new one.
Sure, first create backup of your original apk...in case you do something wrong.
hum.. I wasn't that careful, and just moved the original apk elsewhere and replaced with your apk.
Of course it didn't work, calendar didn't show in the applications drawer.
I replaced with the original but it force closes every 2mn, and still do not show in the app drawer.
Any tip?
I would like to avoid having to reflash my tab just for that...

There might be some differences in the framework files for JMI that MCR uses vs. say Roto's JMIv2. I used the modded Contacts and Calendar from JME on my new JMIv2 install and it works just fine.
If you'd like to upload your stock MCR TouchWizCalendar.apk I can compare it to the one from JME and see what needs to be changed.

After you save the boot animation using your computer .you have to open the zip and check both folders .there should be a "thumbs.db" file in each folder (windows automatically puts this file in both folders) remove the found thumbs.DB files and you should be all set .i encountered this problem early in the dev scene when i was making my own boot animations. Ok. Does your latest file work?
If not try these issues:
Remove the space from all of the file names. Something about unix doesn't seem to particularly like spaces in file names or directories.
If you are on windows use a utility like winzip and create a store only zip file with the folders and dir.text. If on a mac (like me), open terminal and use the zip command. If you type just plane zip it shows the options. I believe this method works on linux as well???? But, don't really know as I stay away from anything that relies that heavily on command line and coding...
Make sure you don't have any extra files like thumbs on a windows machine. If you're on a mac, you have to put in the location of every folder. (To view hidden files on a mac install the secrets prefs pane from here.
If it still doesn't work, let me know and I can troubleshoot it better for you. Also, If anyone out there needs help with doing this on a mac, let me know and I can put together a tutorial. (I never found one and had to piece it all together with some help from cogeary.)

Your problem might be encoding/line endings used in the desc.txt (if you used a normal windows editor like Notepad then it probably messed it up). Try this zip (I used notepad++ to make the desc.txt)... I haven't tested it but it should work: View attachment bootanimation.zip

Just FYI, that shouldn't make any difference... about half of the zips I've seen have been in jpg's and mine (and lfabor's SC one) are in jpg as well. How odd.
Anyways, glad you got it working! Would you mind uploading the correct one for all of the xbox fans out there?
Well do as soon as I get home

Download it from attachment and replace the original one (but please make a backup before) with a root explorer in the folder /system/customize/resource/.
Set the permission to rw-r--r--
I wanna thank to scar45 that he gave me permission to use his files/bootanimation for DHD as base!
This is great!
Thanks for the animation I do like it a lot. I will put it in my phone as soon as I get a chance.
Will report back if it works.:good:
It does work and it is flashable via CWM (not directly but easily) !
I'm S-off, SuperCID, Bootloader Unlocked and Rooted. Running JB
I got the Cricket version of the One SV and I'm trying to get a boot animation working that I made. After I got together the images I wanted I figured I would follow the same folder tree and named them the same as what was in the original boot animation. I also made a sound to replace the original one. I used winrar on normal compression and copied it over to my sd card. I backed up my original and copied and overwritten the original one. I also did the same with the sound. Renaming both after the ones they are replacing. After replacing both files I restarted my phone. The sound I replaced played during the original shutdown animation so I took that as a good sign. But when the phone restarted it was just a black screen the sound didn't even play. Does anyone know how i can fix this. Thanks In advance.

No, must be the same filename as stock. I mean compression in settings when packing.
Here how it looks like in german:

Ok tried it like you showed me and it didn't work. So i tried an app on my phone called Zarchiver and it had a option to zip with no compression and it worked great. Thanks for the help if you ever need a tester for cricket for this phone i'll be more then happy to test it for you. I do know that your deodexed framework and apps somewhat work on the lte just the programs crash and no cell service wifi works just can not make calls.Oh and preparing sim card also kept coming up.

The bootanimation thing is a little bit tricky. It took me also many tries to get it sorted out, but 7zip did the trick for me.
As for cricket: if somebody will upload a system dump or a cwm backup (only system) i will see what i can do.

Nice bro and thanks. I've got this running on my Boost SV now.
Does this require the russian kernel?
If you are S-on, yes.
No wonder I couldn't get it running

I used Photoshop Elements, but every photosoftware should do it.
You need the font installed on your pc, choose it in the photosoftware (must look at my pc, how its the name). Now draw out with black color (only) the parts you want to overwrite. Now go to writing. Pick up the color of the font and choose the right size. Write the text, you wanna write and some of the text at the left or the right. Then move the text in the position. Use the text at the left or the right to get it in its position.
Do this with every picture.

Hi everyone,
I am using smart cover for my mate 8 its looks premium with it , but the thing what I don't like is the wallpaper for the smart cover as i am using custom theme with dark wallpaper .
I need to change that wallpaper yo one match the cover, its brown the phone is mocha gold.
Please any one has managed to change it or has solution!
Hope huawei add this feature in next release.
Thanks
No one facing this issue!
so u only want to change the lockscreen wallpaper or both lockscreen and homescreen?
if its the latter, just use the huawei theme engine and change it to the mocha brown theme if its the former youll have to find a way to extract the huawei wallpapers from the installed themes and use it separately...

For the Smart Cover wallpaper, i managed to change it, by using a different theme (using Theme app), but this changes the whole theme too, have not yet found a way to change the smart cover by itself.
Edit: Themes (magazine)
Still in all updates same issue!
Huawei need to work more ?
Download any theme to your pc, use WinRAR to open the hwt file. Browse to unlock\drawable and put in whatever wallpaper you want it there. Then save the file and put the theme on your phone in your internal storage in the HWThemes folder, then load the theme in theme manager.

Does`nt work for me. Must the image be in .png format with a specific name?

Try using the same names as the photos already inside the theme.
Still doesn't work.
I've managed to change lockscreen and wallpaper background but smart cover background still no luck.
I have changed file names and resolution so they match the files that are in the theme file.
Is there someone who's actually managed to change it?

I confimed that his method is work perfectly, but It have some complications before doing that.
FIRST, If your mate8 is unlock bootloader (+ DATA partition decrypted) and root. then Theme app is not working !!! you must fix the Theme app first (you can download in somboons's topic and do the exactly process in fcho1978's reply: here is link) then your theme app gonna work correctly !!
NEXT, do as ajsmsg78 said. but I recommended that you should copy the Spectrum theme (you can copy it from the same directory that you fixing Theme app in the First step) to modify. IDK that what file is "Smart cover wallpaper" So I change everyfile that is IMAGE (with the light-blue color photo) to my lock screen image. <------ you can rename file "Spectrum.hwt" to "Spectrum.hwt.rar" then extract the image file to modify *******IMPORTANT !! : you must extract the non-type file (The file that have no ".XXX" after file's name like .png .xml) (I can't remember that full name file, sorry) and then add ".rar" to file's name then extract the image file via rar and modify image to your lock screen wallpaper, too.
after modify all image, then throw the file back to the old directory via winRAR. ---> remove ".rar" from file's name.
Finally, you gonna have the modified 'Spectrum.hwt' files.
THE LAST STEP : copy the modified file to the same directory in the first step ---> change the ch (rw_r_r, i guess) ---> restart ---> change theme via Theme app to 'Spectrum' and BOOOMMMMMMM !!!!!!!! your smart cover screen is changed !!!!!!!
ps. ALL IMAGE FILES RESOLUTION MUST THE SAME THE ORIGINAL (Just modify with photoshop)
ps2. Sorry for my English, English isn't my primary language.
Resolution: 1047x1312 Pixel
In:
NameofDesign.hwt/framework-res-hwext/res/drawable-xxhdpi/cover_background_default.png
Thats all.
Copy in your Theme (Design).

bad news folks... I have the newest Marshmallow update for my Honor 5X and the fix here doesn't work. Well...it kinda does. You can tell that the image you use is there in the back, but they put another layer over it that fills in with the stock wallpaper, but it is smaller than the actual window and it looks terrible. Attached is a screenshot where you can see what I'm talking about. If anyone comes up with a fix, please do share. Until then, it's back to a different case. (edit - apparently I haven't "contributed" enough to this forum yet to share a link to the hosted image so it will display, so here it is raw)
