My phone is an Xperia X1 and I have Exchange ActiveSync setup. I can get the syncronization over wlan both in my office and over other wlans. I would like to know if there's any way to "force" the ActiveSync to happen over wlan before trying the data connection. This way when I'm covered by a wlan that I'm connected to, the sync would be cheaper
Basicly I'm after some process that when i want to synchronize it checks the wlan first and only then connects to the celular porovider. Does it make any sense? All this because I miss the autosync that my old Nokia made everytime it was in reach with my PC. What I'm trying to achive is the best workaround for this missing feature in Windows Mobile. Or is there a new option that I don't know ?
Thanks for any support

Hi there,
If your data is not connected, it will obviosuly try to sync via wifi first right? In theroy if both are connected wifi should be prefered afaik.
There is a good guide for getting ur device to auto connect to ur PC via bluetooth to auto sync via active sync, (see the guides section in my sig below, guide by my good friend Nir36)
Cheers.

Hi there,
Just got a new qtek8310 with Windows mobile5 and activesync version 4.1.0 build 4841. Using it with a computer connected to a windows domain network.
The computer have enabled offline files, (can view/edit files in offline mode etc) This is build function in windows xp.
However when I sync the mobile device sometimes it drops the connection to the network and puts me in offline mode with the network, I need to resync offlinefiles to re-establish the network. This happens randomly, often when I connected the device. I think has something to do with the new network adapter it creates everytime you connect the device to sync (breakes the currently connections?).
The sync with contacts etc from outlook works 100%
I followed instructions ActiveSync 4.0 USB Connection Troubleshooting Guide
at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/default.mspx
Still same problems, It has same effect with or without firewall enabled (xpsp2)
anyone same problem / clues ?
thanks.
Any solution to this? I'm still going through the search results but my customer w/ the save AS version has the same problem with 2 diff phones on 2 diff workstations.
HEllo everyone,

p.s. your post title sounds like you want to sync the same things as activesync let you sync without installing the program you dont mention internet at all
Hi Guys,
complete newby, know-nothing-boy here.
Got my xda orbit and just trying to get it all set up the way I want it to work. this is not easy given that I am a complete technophobe so everything's a massive learning curve.....
.....so, I got my orbit 2 connected to my works pc through Active sync and it talks to the calendar and everything appears to be fine and I've set up a bluetooth connection and can beam a file from my laptop to the phone. However, I cannot get my calendar/emails to up-date through bluetooth and neither me nor our IT guy can figure out why not!!!!
Can any guru on here help please.
Thanks,
David
Have you downloaded the new Mobile Device Center? Is your Laptop running XP or Vista? When I last sync'd with an XP machine via bluetooth, I could not sync contacts etc either, only worked with Vista for me.

Is this possible or is it a severe problem???
Does windows mobile centre only work with vista????
Cheers,
David
Hi David,
1. You have to pair your Touch with XP
2. Create a incoming port.
3. select the incoming port in active sync for connection
4. start activesync on touch
if you need further info please use the search function.
Best Regards
Yoshi

David,
I feel for you sir.
I've been a PDA / Pocket PC user for a LONG time. I've used a Kyocera 6035 (Palm-based Cell/PDA), Sprint 6601, Sprint 6700, AT&T 8525, and even a BlackJack II. So I've used Windows XP with a Pocket PC LOTS of times, but *I* had trouble while in Chicago this week.
A co-worker lent me his Sony VGX-UX280 for that trip. It's a Ultra Portable "laptop" with Bluetooth, Wireless, and Windows XP loaded. Having setup my phone to "tether" (aka provided an Internet Connection) to my Dell Inspiron 9400, a MacBook Pro, a MacBook, and other laptops... I didn't have any concerns about using my phone for Internet on the road. Boy, was that a mistake.
So I'm on the road, and I try to use Internet Sharing on my cell to provide a connection the laptop. It seems to connect, and the laptop tries to pull an IP connection over bluetooth, but it NEVER got a private IP address... so it assigns itself a 169 address that as many know isn't a "connected" IP for most network situations. It's a fallback, when a network device can't find a DHCP server to provide an IP address. Instead, it assigns one to itself, but it's offline.
I confirm that the "sharing" is part of the problem by running Internet Explorer. When "sharing" is connected", I couldn't get to a web page on the phone. If I disconnect, everything works as it should. So I'm like WTF?
I came out to this site and others from my phone browser, and one post said I needed ActiveSync connected between the phone and laptop to tether. So I tried setting up ActiveSync over bluetooth, but try as I might if would NEVER connect.
I then downloaded WMWifi something or other. It basically turns your WM phone into a Wireless AP so laptops and other devices can connect to the Internet. But similar to the Bluetooth problem, I couldn't pull an IP. This was VERY odd, because the Wifi program let you configure which IP numbers you wanted to use. Several options were available, such as 192.168.0.x, 192.168.1.x, up to 192.168.3.x. And there was another range as well, but none of these worked. Not even when I set a static IP address in the proper range on the laptop, or turned off the IP setting in the Wifi program, as suggested in their documentation.
So while trying to "fix" things, I tried deleting my existing Activesync profile. BAD idea, as that deleted all my contacts and such from the phone. So then I'm in Chicago, 2000 miles from home, and the only phone numbers I have with NO names is what is in my call history.
At this point, I figure I have one of two problems.
1) The config to the AT&T network on my cell is wrong, which is why the connection isn't working as it had in the past. I do know that while the AT&T settings auto-configured by the Touch Cruise weren't perfect after the wizard ran. I went out to AT&T's web site, and customized my settings to match the Tilt recommended configure. I also configured a "standard" GPRS setting that DOES NOT use the AT&T Proxy Server. That's been the ONLY way I can use Skype .6, as it can't connect to their website through Media Net.
2) One of the many programs I've installed on my phone has fouled the registry/config of my phone. I made a list of all the apps I've installed on my phone, and I suppose any one of these could have screwed up my ability to tether...
Skyfire .6
Flash Player Active X
CoreCodec Coreplayer
HTC HTC Home - Schen 2.10
MS Remote Desktop
Bluefire
Total Commander
PM Registry Editor
iNav iGuidance
Franson GpsGate 2.0
Google Maps
With the above, I can navigate anywhere in the US, connect to my work network with VPN, control my computer there like I was in my chair, and much more. But obviously not being able to get to the Internet on the road is unacceptable.
Probably will hard reset the phone this morning, and take it from there.
Sorry if it seems like I took over your thread. But like you, I had NO luck connecting ActiveSync through Bluetooth.
(Quick note: Even when I borrowed a USB Cable on the road, and tried to tether my laptop to my phone for Internet... I STILL couldn't get IE to connect to websites via my phone. I COULD use Activesync, but by then I'd already lost my contacts, etc. So I'll get that back on the phone now that I'm home.)
Computer OS: XP SP3
Device: HTC TP2
Device OS: WM 6.1
Activesync: 4.5
I have my device connecting and syncing fine to ActiveSync on the computer via Bluetooth, but I would like a quicker way to establish connection. When I get out of Bluetooth range and then re-enter there is no auto-reconnect, so I must go to Settings > Communications > Bluetooth, then under the computer's name click on ActiveSync every time. This gets the job done, but it's too much rigmarole every time I want to establish a connection and synchronization.
If I go to the computer and go into ActiveSync and try to connect under Connection Settings it doesn't see the device. Is there a quick, easy way to connect by creating a shortcut or otherwise not requiring so much interaction to get connected and synchronized? When I set-up ActiveSync through Bluetooth I rather expected it to connect and sync automatically when it got in range, but that would've been to easy I suppose.
Yes i'm wondering the same thing. Is there a reg key for editing this? I normally leave Bluetooth on and would like it to auto connect. My old K800 could do it so i don't see why WM6.5.3 can't.
Is this what you are after? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530327
Yes thanks, that's all i'm after. I was having troubling searching for it.
Hi All,
I'm running Windows Mobile 6.5.3 and am having a pain of a time locating the concept of this.
What I am trying to do is the following:
1. Plug my phone into my computer and activesync.
2. Allow for My Mobiler to access and control my phone.
3. Prevent my Phone from accessing network resources via my computer.
4. When I surf, have my phone use its data connection, not Desktop-Passthrough.
I want the benefits of charging and remote control of the phone, with the benefits of text messaging/surfing/email as on-device data.
I've tried setting the allowLSP to be 0, 01 and 10. No success.
My litmus test is tcpview to see whether or not the end-point is being shown on my computer.
I've done alot of searching, xda, ppcgeeks, google and microsoft. But, no success yet.
Thanks.

Doesn't Active sync ask you (during partnership set up) if you want to have data and calls enabled while connected to it?

It does, but even with the phone data on, it still pushes through to my PC unfortunately. I do appreciate that you brought that up though.

Can you just turn off the data connection of your PC? (pull the ethernet cable or disable the wifi card if you have one)
bump... i would like an answer
I was serching Google for the same reason as the OP, saw there was no answer and a while later figured it out by myself so I thought I would share: in AS connetion settings
check allow wireless connections and select work instead of automatic for the Computer connection. When I use Opera through MyMobiler, it launches my 3G connection instead of using the crappy Internet connection with lots of limitations that I have at the office
