Loaction in registry of Office 2010 Icon Links - General Questions and Answers

I was planning on channing the icon which office 2010 uses for onenote because on my htc hd2 it isn't very crisp.
I have changed the other icons for things like google maps, but I can not find the ones for office 2010.
When i go into hklm\security\shell\startinfo\office mobile 2010 (beta).lnk in the registry there is no Icon string
I wondered if anyone knew where the icon string was.
If I change the one for office mobile (not 2010) will that change the icon?

I haven't tried 2010, but it sounds like you just need to create the icon value for what you want. When you install a cab file, it's pretty unlikely that it will have an icon.png and the icon reg value included. All you're seeing is the icon inside of the resources.

Thanks for the advice.
Do I then have to change the directory that the icon is being called from?
If so where is that likely to be located?

I found a link in the HTC Menu registry entry and just changed that seemed simpler. Thanks for the help

Alter Java VM on SDA

I'm using the tmobile (US) SDA2. I'm wondering if I can change the Java Virtual Machine. The JVM that ships on the default ROM is decent - at best.
For instance, I can run google maps, but I can't edit the font size. It's quite annoying that I have to squint to read the tiny font. I know it's related to the JVM, as my buddy has the 2125 using a different JVM - his fonts are definitly larger.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
-space
Ok, I determined that my SDA has the Tao Inent JVM.
Does anyone know if I can make the fonts larger? Especially in GLM?
Thanks!
I found that the new font (upgraded ROM) was just terrible. I resolved this on my handset by going to the following key and renaming it:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Tao\intent\conf\sys\font
(So, on my handset, I renamed "font" to "jfont".)
There is another key under sys. I don't remember if I added it, or it was already there. (Sorry, I'm on my Mac, and I don't have the registry backup I created to check.) In any event, here is what I have for the values under that key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Tao\intent\conf\sys\ui\midp\vnd\font\
alttextfont
STRING monotype.com,16
labelfont
STRING andale,16,bold
size
STRING 16
stringfont
STRING andale,16
I remember I did this because the updated ROM changed the font size to something so small, it was almost useless for me.
Joel
awesome - i'm off to try it now.
thanks !!
unfortunately, i coulnt find the reg settings =(
using resco, which i'm sure is reading the registry correctly....
FYI - Runtime Version MIDP 2.0:v10.1.7.542
Is there a way I can remove this one and the install a new version?
thanks!!
Which settings aren't there? I'd only be conerned if the first set of settings (the one I said to rename) weren't there.
I may have added the others based on a compare I did with my older ROM's registry settings.
My version is 2.0: v10.1.7.546
It's hard to imagine that they wouldn't be there.
what the heck...
This is weird. I just triple checked - I still dont have those RegKeys..
Hmm. What Rom/Phone are you using? I'm on the stock TMob SDA2.
Thanks!

A Question About Icons...

Alright... here's the deal. This may be a completely neophyte-esque question, but here I go anyway.
So I have File Explorer Extension v2.05 installed, and I love it and all, but I can't stand that icon! How could I keep that Extension installed but use the normal WM6 File Explorer icon installed instead?
Also, on a side note, where are folder icons stored on WM6?
Thanks much, guys!
Eh. Icons are stored..
I dont know your first question , but due to wm 6.5 letting you change your icons. They are in the windows folder/ and you go to whatever program icon u want changed. or windows/icons/edit

Yeah, I don't have 6.5... I'm 6.1, standard Verizon Touch Pro ROM.
Other question, maybe this is easier... how could I get the standard File Explorer icon, then set the File Explorer Extension shortcut icon to that?
It's a good question, and one I'd like to know the answer to.
Most programs pull in the icon associated with the .exe file - M2D is a good example when populating the launcher tab.
How do you change the icon associated with the .exe without an external program to do this?
e.g. not using 'reStart' on 6.5.
Nobody else knows anything about this? C'mon, I know people have changed icons in the past... help me out, here!

How to change "BING" icon? CSMI & JWMD don't work!

Any idea?
for some programms...they don't work in combination with sense.
they appear changed in winmo but once you add a quicklink there is the old annoying icon.
anyway overall Bing SUCKS and always slows down my HD2.
I could change the Icon with HComber.
Thanks, but hcomber didn't work, too.
Any idea where the icon is located?
Same problem for the Voice Recorder.
Try this :
1) Make a duplicate of the shortcut (e.g : "Garmin Mobile XT.lnk" when duplicated, Copy of
"Garmin Mobile XT.lnk")
2) Rename "Garmin Mobile XT.lnk" to "Garmin XT.lnk"
3) Use CSMI or JWMD to change the icon of the new shortcut created...
4) Now, add the newly created shortcut and see whether the icon has changed in the
Sense shortcut in the home tab menu! ( I did this and it worked...for a couple of my
shortcuts that changed in WM but didn't in Sense)
5) If it works, now delete the old shortcut and you're good to go...
***Hope this helped...
@Carina
Thanks, but how to find the shortcuts? Where are they? For example, where can i find the bing shortcut?
Try looking for the .lnk in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs...
It worked! Many thanks!

You can easily change the camera icon using CSMI. the new icon just must not have the same name.

Can you expand on this please?
I have used the other method on this thread (ie, creating shortcuts); but this way my start menu gets cluttered with all the shortcuts due to me not wanting to delete the original "system files" - I get a warning (eg/ Word mobile, MSN Messenger).
What is the best way to get around this problem?
You just have to do the following:

What if CSMI can't apply an icon?
Delete all files located in \Application Data\HTC\ProgLauncher
Change that icon with CSMI
Remove the application icon from the homescreen
Just add back it back in Sense homescreen.. that's it!
That, however, applies only to HTC Sense: if you want Windows Mobile Start Menu icon to be updated (this applies to v1.2+ too), just soft-reset your phone!
Update!!
I've found a bug/feature in manila which prevents some icons to be changed.
Since many users were complaining about not being able to change some icons I've started investigating the problem and found that if you try to use a custom icon which have the same filename of one of the images found in \Windows then Manila will always load that instead of your customized one.
In order to easily fix the problem, just rename your icon
This bug affects ONLY manila, therefore in the start menu everything will look fine BUT in the Homescreen you will always have the original icon!

Latest version of CSMI works for all my icons . Just do a soft reset after changing it .

Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately this doesn't seem to be the case for me.
i have changed the being icon on xanny and miri rooms using reStart and had no problems with this or getting it on sense quick links.

Ok... I've got to the bottom of this now.
After changing the icons seemingly ok last night by renaming them, I turned the phone on again this morning and some of them had reset... nightmare!
To solve the problem, I used a combination of renaming the icons and deleting the relevant .bmg files in \Application Data\HTC\ProgLauncher (ie, following the guide you quoted).
For anyone reading this in the future, I will make two notes:
1. If you can't find the relevant .bmg file in the ProgLauncher folder; you simply have to rename your icon and then change it with CSMI - it will then appear in the folder and should change the icon with no problems (you won't have to delete anything!).
2. If a .bmg file does exist in the ProgLauncher folder, just delete it and change the icon with CSMI. If after a reset the icon goes back to the original, just change the icon name.
Doing this I came across a problem with the 'Bing' logo. The program icon doesn't populate in my CSMI list - even without filtering. As I write this I have not yet searched about this particular problem (it seems that this thread was started for this issue though!); but if anyone can help, it would be appreciated.

Always Fail Editting Taskbar. Need Help

I've been trying to edit a taskbar. So, there's a taskbar (let's call it A taskbar), which works perfect, but I really don't like the icon. And then there's a taskbar (B taskbar) which I like more, but completely doesn't work (after install it, the taskbar is completely unusable, all the taskbar icon is disappear). I want to replace the A taskbar with all B taskbar icon.
This is what I'm doing:
1. Extract the A and B taskbar .cab using WinCe Cab Manager.
2. Unsign all A and B .dll using Unsigner
3. Replace all A icon with B icon using Reshacker
4. Resign all .dll using MSigner
5. Recab all component using QuickCab 2.0. In this process I set the component to be installed on Windows folder.
After I install it, totally mess..The icons don't shown up (unusable at all)
Please anyone can help me to solve this?

[Q] Icon Set created as Cab, but some icons don´t change

Hi,
I created an icon set as a cab file. It works near perfect, but some icons don´t change. I´m wondering why
I used Win CE Cab Manager to create the cab.
Following Icons don´t change:
bing
the complete office icons (the outlook icon works)
in call recorder
flashlight
the folder icon messages
encryption
Does someone know why the icons don´t change?
Ben
I give up ´
I think i´ll releas the icon set as png files
use a regualr icon changer for those.. some things have multiple copys.. and the easiest way to attack them is brute force.
i know that, when i dont clear htc sense cache...
maybe this helps..

you have to erase the png files first then run the cab and all icons should change.
you have to add registry entries, as shown in the screenshot
my suggestion is to download my basic icons cab and replace the icons with those of your likings. make sure you keep the file names intact!
i use artemis rom which is very close to stock. if you use a rom with the icons organized differently, you'll need to change the registry entries accordingly.
pm me if you can't find your way
cheers,
antaed
@m0bmentality: Hell Yeaahh, you´re right but i´ll try it with the basic icon set of antaed
@mrkevinhall: Thanks for the tip, but i´ve tried this before

they are png files already, if you mean how to extract them: (with wince cab manager) go to cabinet>files>extract...
you will also find some qtc files, you don't need to modify those.
just extract the png files to a folder on your pc, replace them with your icons (use the same names!!!) and repack the cab.

IF you just set your pc to allow you to see hidden and system files.. then open up phone/windows in active sync they will all be there too

yes but in my reply to benalive i'm referring strictly to how to unpack and replace the icons from my bull's eye basic icon pack cab.
but maybe i misinterpreted his last question and he wants to know how to get original icons from the phone instead. if this is the case i'm sorry for the confusion, my bad...
cheers
