Assign new icons to quick links? - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

Hi, does anyone know if it is possible to assign a different Icon to a quick link? I would basically like to make my own Icons and links them to my programs and bookmarks to show on the Today page.

If you want to change the program icons. You must edit the icons in the startmenu, after that the icon on the home screen change also. You can change the icons with Icon Changer (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567080) and ReStart (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=481379), you can find a lot of icons here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=533993

Thanks that's exactly what I needed.

Thanks too

A way to assign icons to folders ?

You can easily change icons from start menu without using the Icon editor by changing the registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo\Start\xxx.lnk]
"Icon"="\\Windows\\yyy.png"
where xxx.lnk = the Start Menu link
and yyy.png = the icon you want to use

Use the 2 programs i mentioned in my first post. Also for folders

Just a slight follow up question. This works perfectly on most icons but I've noticed one program that I downloaded from Windows Market Place (moTweets) changes in the start menu but not on the quick links.
I've restarted the phone but no joy. Is the something to do with Windows Marketplace? DRM or something?

I've tried this... and I can't get it to work at all. I had to use ReStart to get it working but it seems that it does the same thing as I did manually but somehow it got the changes to happen. I did restart the device everytime I made any changes but it doesn't seem to work?
I don't really want to install something if I can get it done via the registry so any tips?

Remove the corresponding .bmg file from \Application Data\HTC\ProgrLauncher and softreset. It should work fine.

Home screen quick link icon problem

Hey guys,
I have a small issue with the icons for my quick link programs on my home screen.
If I change the icon in the start menu, it won't update on the quick link. So I'm stuck with the old icon on my quick link, and the new icon in my start menu.
Any ideas on how to fix it? I'm using JWMD Icon Changer to change the icons.
the same for me!
If some Icons still the same after Restart. Prefer clearing HTC Sense's icon cache. Go to your Device's \Application Data\HTC\ProgLauncher Folder and delete all the *.bmg files inside. These are icon caches that will be recreated upon next boot.
And if that not helps you. Eraser85 found a solution for this! He found that if you try to use a custom icon which have the same filename of one of the images found in \Windows then Manila will always load that instead of your customized one! 90% of my Icons Have the Same Name. In order to easily fix the problem, just rename your icon. This bug affects ONLY manila, therefore in the start menu everything will look fine BUT in the Homescreen you will always have the original icon!

Reappearing HTC icons:no working solutions found

Hello. to everybody.
I am trying to fix the reappearing HTC Icons from Start Menu with the tweaks advised in some threads but they don't work.
Even if I change the HKCU Dword string to 0 (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Manila\IsShortcutEnable), they again reappear but without the icon (only a sad and ugly grey icon)....
Does anybody know something more to fix this annoying issue?
Thx in advance.

After doing that, you need to actually delete the shortcuts yourself.
Open file explorer and navigate to Windows\Start Menu\Programs.
Locate the shortcuts (you'll recognise them from the default icon that you've already seen) and delete them.
The registry change you described simply stops the shortcuts from being recreated when you restart the device.
Try this cab , i used it , it works .
6/12 -09 Touch X Permanently Delete Reappearing HTC Icons.cab -Permanently Delete Reappearing HTC Icons from Start Menu (see tweak 42 in tboy2000 thread here)
http://www.ad-grafiska.se/HD2/LEO TWEAKS/Touch X Permanently Delete Reappearing HTC Icons.cab
Or if none of the above don't work for some reason the you need to make the shortcuts hidden in file properties using a good file explorer, after doing the reg tweaks also.

what if i want the sortcuts back with the default icons on start?

WinMo default Icons Set for HD2

Hello everybody.
I've installed a magnificent ROM in my HD2, I like it all but the changed icons set. Is it possible to have a CAB containing thge original Windows Mobile Icons set to replace the modified one?
Or where are the files to extract from the orginal HTC rom to override the actual ones to get the original icons?
Thanks and regards
Andrea

The majority of the icons you see in a stock ROM are actually the icons embedded in the applications themselves. Icon's are generally not stored as separate entities on your device. This isn't always the case, but it's normal.
The modified icons you see are actually tied into the shortcuts, not the applications. To remove modified icons, you need to look at the following registry key...
\HKLM\Security\Shell\StartInfo\Start
In there you will find registry keys that have are shortcuts and have a value called "Icon". (Guess what that is )
You can delete things from there, and as long as the app has its own icon, it will use that instead.
Just PLEASE make a backup of that whole registry key before you start. I'm not gonna be your 1st line support for the next month if you gash this up lol.
Hope that helps matey
I believe you can use a simple way to restore.JWMD Icon Changer has an option to restore/reset the icon. PLease tell us if it works.

Can't get all Icons changed.. really not
Sorry to grab here but I tried in other threads and other forums but anyone had a solution for me.
I deleted all the Quicklinks on Homescreen, installed Diniks Anastasia set by cab file, cleared the ProgLauncher. In the Start Menu all Icons are showing roght but only about 40% of the Icons come on right on the Homescreen.
I look in Icon changer but there also all icons are showing correct. I long pressed on every Icon and said "hide default icon".. but no change to those that will not show on Homescreen.
By looking inside de Proglauncher Folder I remarked that all the icons that work are listed there, but not those that will not show correctly.. why that?
Any help, suggestions? Pleeeeeeeaaaaaaase?

you have to create a theme with iconchanger, after you have to go in the folder programs\iconchanger\themes\"your_theme_folder_name" and , with a file explorer,(program like rescoexplorer are better!!) rename the icon of the program was showed uncorrectly in your homescreen quicklink, after go in jwdm iconchanger , holdtap the program icon you want to change, programs\iconchanger\themes\"your_theme_folder_name"\"your_icon_you_have_just_renamed" .. afther this reclear the proglauncher folder and all is fine! -- for correct homescreen quicklink softreset is not needed, is needed for start menu only.
Wow, really something new.. gonna triy this tonight. I'll give feedback.. thanks a lot..!
Couldn't wait and tried on the spot. Seems to work out really fine. Thanks for that simple way that even I can understand
Those Icons not showing in Icon Changer I still have to double in .. argh which folder was that again .. does this stay the same to show them?

I did as you said and it would work out.. and now the big BUT:
Some of the links in Windows\Startmenu\Programs are organized in subfolders, for instance folder "tools", as in the Startmenu itself. Icon Changer can obviously NOT SEE INTO subfolders, for it does not list those links, even if copied and pasted. Only if copied to Windows\Startmenu\Programs (one directory up) it is recognized, but of course it does too change place in Startmenu itself, so that's not what I want.
Question: Why can't my Icon Changer (latest version 26b) not see the links in subfolders, for I think that this is common in all standard Roms????
And what do I do to be able to change those Icons..?
CSMI can help
Ok, I could solve this problem by just using other software.. CSMI helped me out, this one even shows which links lie in a folder.
thank u for ur effort ,but still a little problem with the weather switch icon,in the quicklink,im using CSMI but i cant locate it to make the change

hi,
use this solution and work fine for me thanks for the tips
hello had a quick question i changed my quick link icons on my home page but some havent changed they were not in the prog launcher to begin with...the icons that i want changed are changed in my start menu just not my quick link ones was wondering wa am i doing wrong thank you

Quick Link icons not changing

I have changed all my icons, as most people here have, and for some reason 2 quick link programs wont show the new icons I have applied. They have changed in the strat menu, just not in quick links. I have deleted the icon cache from application data program launcher, rebooted, tried to re-apply icon, re-add program to quick link...nothing.
The 2 programs are NaviPanel and CoPilot.
As I said, in Startmenu they have updated with the new icon fine, just not here...any one else have simialar problems or solutions?
btw, I am using Cookies home tab, but this happens even without it.
For COPILOT try to rename your new icon in "splashscreen"
For NAVIPANEL try to rename your new icon in "NaviPanel"
than try again to change the icon.
Whenever I change icons I have to delete all files in Application Data\HTC\ProgLauncher (*.bmg files) and restart.
So: Change icons, delete chache, restart.

Going from what philo69 said, rename the icon to match the programs .exe file.
Also, try delete the cache in: Application Data\HTC\ProgLauncher re 'flush' the icon cache out.
Silly question, where do you put new icons? Want a new one for iGO 8
