I figured a Dev would know this, hints why I asked here. I have downloaded some Icon packs for Better Cut and would like to know where they are downloaded too so I can pull them and edit and push back to the phone.
Thank you in advance.

I posted this last week over in software but didn't get any responses. I'm sure someone here knows the deal.
How do I change the icon of a particular shortcut or folder?
Preferably I would like to be provided:
1) The underlying method - registry keys, etc?
2) How you would code this into a ROM - so if I wanted a new folder created in Start\Programs and i wanted to assign it a custom icon.
3) Any tool that will do this for you on the fly on the phone.
thanks.
The only method I know for making a custom icon for a folder I outlined here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=379726
Hope it helps.
Thats what I think I need. I'll look through the CAB to get the details later. Thanks though!
i was wondering if there's any guides available on how to make custom lock screens. i can't seem to find anything on google regarding it. i saw some of the nice ones noj created and it inspired me to make a few of my own too, but i have no idea where to start.

I took the lame developer route. I just used winrar to open up an already created lockscreen.zip and just replaced the lockscreen image with my own. Flashed just fine.
jeez ajaholic, have you tried using something called "google" and other search options available?
thanks guys!

thanks for the help tatonka, but this guide seems to be pretty basic it's basically just says to do the developer route kbizzle was talking about, which is alright but severely limits the amount of customization you can do. for example you cant change the size of lock screen image or the text. there is a an xml file inside the apk that i believe controls those things, but when i open it up in notepad its in a compiled format not regular text and i can't edit it. does anyone how to edit the xml file?

Exactly. It is basic, that was the point of me writing it. So that others could easily create basic custom lockscreens and share with the communities out there. If you are looking for something more elaborate, I would search these forums. But, to save you some time, here are 3 links I have found in my searching that describe how to change time color, etc.

hey everyone, not sure if this belongs in the general or development forum, but I figure I'll wing it. I was wondering if anybody new a way to change the app icons to the stock android ones? I have already tried using Better Cut with the icon pack but they looked pixelated, so I tried it with high res downloaded ones, and, wouldn't you know it, still pixelated. So I was wondering if there was a way to actually fully change the icon (not just make a shortcut with a new one). If so how would I go about this in a way to avoid pixelation, also, I wouldnt mind rooting to achieve this.
Thanks ^_^
I've been wondering about this myself. From what I've read, you're supposed to change the .png icon within the .apk file of the app. Problem is, I'm not sure if I have to re-install the .apk file for the new icon to take effect. Also, can I just move a .png icon to the .apk within the phone?
So now that Handcent has released skin packs I've been trying to find a way to basically rip open the skinpack APK and replace the images and whatnot to create my own skins. I haven't found a solution thus far and I was hoping the experts here could help me out. I've opened it up in APK Edit and attempted to swap images but it won't install. I'm not sure where I went wrong but I'm curious on how one of you would approach the process.
I assumed APK Edit would resign the *.apk file but maybe that's what I'm missing. I'll keep pecking away at it and see what I can come up with but any assistance would be aweome.
Hi
Any news on this? Would really like to see some Custom skins soon.. and the ability to create own... and customize for example the popup and such

do you see the icon of WOW HD Settings? That's the icon which I can't change and I do not understand why!
If you can not see it in JWD then you will need hunt it in the registry & link a PNG file to it.
Have a look at this thread to help pin it down in registry:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6188525&postcount=1
If you have problems finding it you could export & upload parts of the registry tree for us to help.
Other option if you have installed srsWOW via cab is to edit cab/exe icons prior to install.
*JWD tip: some icons show as default JWD paint pallet & no text so you got to guess what they are ! have another good look ...

I am here and I can't understand HOW make a link to a PNG file. The PNG file is already in Windows forlder and the name is equalizer007.png.
I opened SRSPanel.cpl,0 and was only 1 link of some "Group" empty, so I delete it and I make this link "Icon"="\\Windows\\equalizer007.png" but is not working or i did in wrong way. I don't know, on the thread is not exactly clear how to do it.
See the pic.
