Ok seeing as I was on the sapphire forever and no body responded - G1 Android Development

I figure I would try here since I still have a G1 and now I also own a Mytouch
I got a Mytouch from a friend and it was already rooted running a hero rom now I want to run Cyans latest and I know that you have to download a recovery image then his roms in order for them to work . I was wondering since I am new to this phone how would I go about that process. I have downloaded the recovery image from the HTC site for my mytouch but it wont install....I was curious
Yes Yes I know wrong forum but I am true G1 user just now with a spare new Mytouch to mess with

follow this http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Upgrading_From_Older_CyanogenMod_Versions
then once u have 4.1.99 u can follow this after that http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Main_Page#How_do_I_upgrade_to_the_latest_CyanogenMod.3F
this is the development section so i am sure the mods will move this thread to Q&A where it belongs

Yeah I should have known better to post here but it was just so frustrating lol thank you

Well before I get this thread moved would anyone have a download to that HTC ADP 1.6 DRC83...the link to androidspin is not working

This is for a Mytouch:
http://developer.htc.com/google-io-device.html

OK well I have the recovery image on therew but would I need 1.5 or 1.6 cause I did the 1.6 and nothing but I have yet to try the 1.5...I know this is odd but the GF wants the mytouch so going to help her

Cyanogen's roms are all 1.6 so u would need the 1.6

You need the 1.6 if you are doing any cyno newer than 4.1.9999999
Basically, what cyno is doing to get around the google c&d is making an update that mods the original base google 1.6, hence why we have to flash first the google ADP 1.6 then the update from Cyno. Hope this helps, and slowly counting down til this gets moved in 3....2......1......

FYI: This is probably a general question and not a development question.

It will take you 15 minutes to do it if you are feeling adventurous. If you follow these directions you will end up with CyanogenMod 4.0.4. Once you are done with that walkthrough you can download one of the new 1.6 ROMs like the one from Akira and you will be good to go.
But you may want to learn how to partition your SD card, and today is your lucky day since they are giving away Paragon Partition Manager 10 for free for today only if you download AND install from http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/. Either way make sure to READ READ READ, google can answer most any question you could have.

Vodafone Donut - Is there a method to root the latest Oct 2009 1.6 release?

I've been using various Cyanogen and Hero ROMs since June and have now reverted back to the stock Vodafone UK ROM. In general the stock stuff is fine, it's quick and bluetooth audio works for phone and media. I need root access though to use Bluex for bluetooth file send/receive and pushing the HTC_IME keyboard
What I'd like to know is does anyone know how to root the new Donut release?
I've tried the Haykuro's rootmesigned but get a FC and constant reboot...it was worth a try
there is already a full solution for you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=565929
I used it on mine and works perfectly, no flaws. Install that and you are done.
yeah there is a way. but im not going to answer because this is in the wrong section. read the stickies up top, search around, then post in the right section and maybe you will get more answers.

Aw gee thanks...NOT
If you don't have anything contructive to add then don't.
I spent hours searching and read through countless threads. For your info I have been installing ROMS since they came out in May (before the Wiki was in place), have contributed and would you believe it I have even been thanked for my help, I am comfortable with using ADB, Fastboot etc, am familiar with linux and have read the stickies.
Is asking about a rooted ROM not developement? Have YOU read the stickies because from what I have read, surprise surprise, in this section there is a sticky up above here about hacking and rooting. As far as I'm aware any developement focused questions would be posted in the developement section not general.
If I'm wrong them I'm quite happy to follow the MODS rules and their directions.
Are you going to repeat your post with questions about OTA updates being in the wrong section too?
P.S. the very helpful 'htcmagic' had already spoiled it for you
@BigRD: no problem mate, glad i could help. I installed the rom above and i am extremely happy with it. I have also installed busybox on it too.
Its much faster that vodafones original.
Hey mate, try Amon_Ra's Donut Rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538645
Very fast and stable with Root and others. I'm using it on my vodafone magic. Works really nice.
Or alternatively just go back to Cyanogen. Its Donut and it has more features than any other rom on this site so...its all up to you
@widezu69 & @htcmagic Cool, thanks guys.
I spent a lot of time with Cyanogen's ROMs up until the Google thing happened and was running eViL's Hero ROMs up to v3.0. I wanted to get back to a smoothish stock ROM issued by my network supplier but rooted by one of the great developers on XDA. I keep finding that other than the Vodafone original and the Google ION ROM bluetooth audio for phone and multi media working at the same time is very hit or miss. Am going to give both versions posted here a try over the next few days
Another one who wants a Rooted Vodafone Donut
I am also searching for a method to root a stock Vodafone Magic 32B that has had an OTA Donut update.
The answers on the thread so far involve flashing a new Donut Rom - my issue is that I have Donut already, and have never rooted - I am assuming the Root instructions included in the Wiki and Relentless Rooter are only aimed at Cupcake.....or am I wrong?
Any help/advice appreciated....
rooting the magic 1.6
Hi folks, dito as above. I've been up half the night trying to work this out. Have recently bought an htc magic from vodafone, and been 'updated' to doughnut 1.6. Not bad, but I'm really keen to get root on this, and eventually install the latest rom from cyanogen...
Seems there are now a few issues for people like me wanting to root their handsets... so far I've managed to erase my user settings, but keep getting errors trying to flash a rom. Followed the link above to nk02's thread, and no luck. Same issue, update aborts. There must be an easier way...
nk02 says his ROM works with 'wipe + flash'. How the heck do I do that? Seems this latest update to 1.6 has made all the other methods of gaining root obsolete... I'm far from a linux novice, and would love some advice here. And please don't tell me to keep searching, solid help would be appreciated. Cheers.

The closest-to-original Hero ROM for 32A Magic

Today I've got an HTC Magic, 32A version, and I want to make it run Sense UI so can anybody please tell me which ROM should I install?
You can give me link to the thread for that ROM, and if you can, a link to How To Install ROM on Android tutorial...
Thank you very much.
And please forgive me if theres already thread about this, I'm just so excited.

but for this he has to put hero spl n radio
i would prefer u to use this
its fast and very nice looking rom
Here it is << click
Thats way too complicated, I need some clean install rom that looks and feels exactly like on HTC Hero...
What u want is CursorSense....
Read this wiki on how to get around your magic... (Rooting, flashing SPL so on...)
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Sapphire_Hacking
once you read through the wiki flash an engineering spl to your phone and then go through CursorDroids guide on how to flash his rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592856
Thank you, that looks awesome. But it sounds as complicated as the first suggestion. C an I just download it and load it somehow? And what do you think about 2.1 hero rom?
It really isn't too much work to get the new SPL and Radio installed if you follow the instructions. Very little risk involved, as long as you follow instructions.
Can anyone please tell me how to install myhero rom it is way easier from what i see than all of these and im n00b so i dont know anything about roms.

Please read the Sapphire hacking Wiki.
the search for threads that instruct you on how to root your phone.
You'll probably end up using a program called Recovery Flasher, or Flashrec.
As long as you don't flash your SPL first thing, you can't brick your phone.
Flashing Magic GyD (32A) is less complicated.
It's probably the best MagicSense rom out right now.
I haven't tried CursorSense yet though, so what's it about anyway? Flashing a Hero rom with a Hero SPL? So you can run roms meant for the HTC Hero?
So when 2.1 Sense comes out for Hero that would work fine on the SPL right?
Can CursorSense be run on an HTC Hero?
my-hero 2.0.5 is my choice. GyD always gave me trouble (the software, not the guy ;-))
Im new in this whole android thing but i can see myself flashing phone etc. because im pretty god at symbian and OSx, but both WM and Android are so new experience for me, thats why i came here. I've read it but i still don't get it.
Which programs for computer and for phone should i first download if i want to install myhero 2.0.5 since i already downloaded the rom...?
please, be patient with me, i want to do all of this but im just not capable of doing it at the moment.
thaanks
Well I just checked out CursorSense and it's very worth it if you want a solid Hero rom. It's the fastest, I've seen.
I think 2.1 roms will be developed on that SPL/Radio soon.
try this

Yes definitely, I agree that this is probably the best and safest way to root your phone.
ok, i think im gonna read some more about cursorsense and finally, if i have guts, im gonna do it. If i decide that i cannot, im gonna try myhero or this visual thingy
Please please please just tell me if this http://www.karrderized.com/romguide/ is what i have to do to install myhero 2.0.5. without bricking the device?

OK, first of all, you need to know your SPL version.
Power off your phone.
Start it up by holding Back and pressing Power.
Type all of that information into this thread and then we can help point you in the right direction.
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT-1.22.0009 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-3.22.20.17
I also tried to install one click to root but i couldnt manage to get Hero rom (again -.- ) because of Can't chown/mod /system/xbin error, line 18. The same error i got when i tried to install MyHero 2.0.5
You cant flash any other roms to your phone until you get an engineering spl flashed... thats what the S-ON indicates... once you have an eng spl it will say S-OFF and you will be able to flash whatever to your phone... the first thing you need is another recovery though i recommend amon ra's

How to get eclair on rogers htc magic 32A

Hey I have been looking for roms to use for my magic. I have looked through forums and has had a hard time understanding specifically what I need and how to install such roms. Rogers has mad it extremely difficult and if any rogers customers have figured out how to change roms can someone please explain to me in detail. I am running windows 7 also if that is important and im running 1.5 android.
Thanks,
Any help would me much appreciated.

All you need: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592377
I am using a Rogers Magic and already used the method from unlockr.com. Its works great and easy; just make sure you download all the file to the root of the sd card.
Good luck!

If it makes a difference, Cyan is donut based with bits of Eclair... solid rom though and definitely recommend it
Cyanogen rom is for 32B not for 32A as asked
Prefer to wait for htc release
I've also got cyanogen rom working fine on two rogers htc magic phones..
by following the steps http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/29/how-to-root-the-htc-magic-in-one-click/ (as suggested to you previously) I dont know if it made a difference but i used the earlier ver. of flashrec http://zenthought.org/system/files/asset/2/flashrec-1.1.2-20090909.apk
..hope this helps ..good luck

Check out the cyanogenmod wiki. Specifically, read this article:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_Rogers_Dream_EBI1_to_CyanogenMod
This will work. Remember that you can only run 32A ROMs, or, like with cyanogenmod, you have to flash a 32A port file after flashing the correct 32B ROM. Read through that wiki, it should help 100%.
As many have already reported. It is not rogers making it harder. Rooting is dead simple on magic and then you can use any 32a Rom you want. Delete the files. Remember to follow them exactly. If they say to unzipped it, but if they don't mention unzipping the file....leave it. Probably one of the most common mistakes....yet one of the easiest ti fix.
Running cursorsense 1. 0 because 1.6 doesn't have as pretty of an interface and Google goggles and pretty crumby navigation were not worth it.

Flash the rom.
And try to take the time to read the forum rules, specifically the stickied thread 'Thread merged/deleted/moved/locked!!! This is DEVELOPMENT section not General/Q&A!!'
Hell I'll even save you two mouse clicks and hyperlink it for you.
