I have searched but could not find an answer to my exact problem. I have the stock Spring 6.5 ROM and the weather information on my home screen will not update unless I goto the weather tab in which case it updates there and then updates the home screen. I have it set to update every 15min but I will lock the screen then turn it on 3 hours later and the weather info will still be the same. Any ideas??
same here bro, must be a bug...gotta go to the weather tab and hit update now in order for the home screen to reflect the correct weather info
Anyone has the solution?
I developed the same problem four days ago. Neither my location nor the local forecast will update, even if I do it manually. GPS works for Google Maps and other programs, and I can update weather for the major cities but not my location ... it just stuck. If it makes any difference, I'm running a stock WM6.5 with Cookie's HomeTab, but the weather was working just fine under those conditions for a long time.
did u select update when romaing as well?

For me, it doesn't matter whether or not I select "roaming": no update. I have tried every combination of weather and GPS settings I can think of, short of a registry edit.

it's not you or your phone...it's something with htc and the sense my location software. it went out on my t-mo hd2 for 4 weeks, then started working again. i went to the tmo store and the demo in the store was doing the same thing. if you manually enter your location, i bet the correct forcast comes up . you're just gonna have to wait it out .

You're right. Just now, the correct location and current weather update magically reappeared after nearly a week.
I am not sure if anyone else has run into this yet. But I didn't really notice it until yesterday. The clock/weather widget, the city listed which should be based on your physical location (GPS) and I do have all of the location services checked is way, way wrong.
Case in point, I noticed it was showing the weather in St. Johnsville, NY which happened to be about 350 miles from where I was standing at the time. I refreshed the weather about 10 times, indoors and outdoors and no change. It won't find the area I live in despite the fact that my prior Android phones could (heck my iPhone could).
Now when I am at home its still off the mark, but this time by about 20 miles. I did pull the batter and the 4G SIM card (4G LTE come later this year as confirmed in this weeks announcement).
In fact on day 1 of getting the phone it listed two cities NYC and St. Johnsville, and it wouldn't let me delete both. So I think something is off in the GPS on this device or is it me?
One more point, I did a wipe and started over, still the same.
Lol...this was killing me also and I tried everything in the world, until I found out how to do this. First, turn off all of your GPS settings. Next, delete the clock/weather widget off of your home screen. Then, go back into settings and turn all 3 of your GPS settings on(VZ,Stand alone and Google location services). Give it a few minutes to locate you. Finally, click "browse all HTC widgets" to add the clock/weather widget back to your home screen. When the city search screen pops up, click current location and you should have your city back. Hope this helps. It worked for me.
Thanks. I will give that a try. I stopped at the verizon store and the tech there was as I expected clueless. He sd its normal and happens, otherwise all of the Thunderbolts would be defective.
What it seems to me is maybe this falls under the block of "fixes" HTC has to do for Verizon where the location services are not spot on.
My Thunderbolt can be a little weird in this respect as well. I live in CA, but every once in a while I'll unlock my phone and realize that my weather (and worse, my clock, and therefore time zone) are set to, say, Boston. Fortunately, my phone seems to automatically clear these quirks with a reset (a soft reset-- not just a refresh)
Mine gets stuck while traveling a lout and not even that was working earlier. Needed a full reboot to make it change

When I received my Bolt and activated it, the HTC Sense clock / weather widget had my location listed as Buenos Aires, Argentina. LOL, I'm in Cleveland Ohio! Took a couple of battery pulls and disabling / re-enabling the location services until it finally locked in.
Atleast you guys have a semi working one....mine is blank...doesnt even give me an option for my location in the weather app itself...

It just found a better city that's all .. what's the issue ?

Well, here is the response from HTC and based on the fact that they know about it, don't tell anyone directly about it really makes you wonder what else they don't disclose.
Dear XXXXXXXX,
I understand your weather and location is not showing the correct information on your Thunderbolt. We have been aware of this issue for a while and have come up with a workaround to resolve the issue. You may follow the steps below:
1. From the Home screen, press Menu and tap Settings.
2. Tap Location
3. Turn off Mobile Location Services
4. Turn on GPS
5. Check Google maps to see if the location is correct.
If this does not work, navigate to the Market and download GPS Test by Chartcross Limited. Use this application to find your GPS location. Google Maps should now display the correct location. Refresh the weather manually, the correct location should now display.
Sure I can do this, but how long will it last, not long at all before you have to do it again, and again, and again. Thanks HTC how about you just remove the weather widget all together.

Mine... when compared to Yahoo weather, seems to show the correct weather for my location but the name of the location always says "Pennsylvania". The first couple of days it was showing the city name and then just stopped out of nowhere.

Thank you!!! his drove me nuts yesterday
Went to the VZN store and the tech rep turned on the three location services on my phone. He then pulled my battery. Turned the phone back on and the location was correct.
The phone was saying i was in Ben Lodon, CA. I live in Rochester,NY. It's now been working fine. Although, I do have to keep my GPS on 24/7 but I haven't really noticed any battery life decrease from that.
Download Weatherbug. It's not as pretty as the HTC weather widget, but it works a lot better. Plus it has tons more info, and it's easy to switch between cities.
Wrong location???
I was just LMFAO today!!

On my lunch break, i noticed that weather widget shows "current location" with temp 27F. So i pressed "update" and it showed that i am in Liliyan, Estonia!!! It is a part of EU, old state of well passed CCCP, or Soviet Union, if you like! Hahaha!! Then, i tried to open Navigation, and it showed me an error message, that "Nav using Google Maps is not yet available in your area".
Now, the only question i would have is; is it my phone, or the network?? After few minutes all went back to normal, and i was back in Chgo.
My experience with this is that it only did it on certain kernels. Try a different one and see if that fixes it like it did for me. Right now I'm running virus rc1b3 and adrenaline's kernel and I don't have any problems.

i myself went back to stock kernel. i tried a custom kernel and it had issues with GPS.
as for the weather, i use beautiful widgets and it never had problems identifying my location and giving me the correct weather. there is 'fancy widget' which is a free weather widget that's close to being as nice as the htc weather widget and the beautiful widgets.

Yeah, that Fancy Widget is close to HTC's one, but few months ago "they" had to change the layout of it, because of copyrights issues. Now, the sun/moon/clouds have been put at the upper portion of the widget. Fortunately, i still have a copy of "old" widget, which looks exactly the same as original HTC Sense weather widget. The only difference is that clock does not flip........
Hi all,
I have the following problem. When I first used weather widget it automatically detected my location as Ontario without the name of a city. < for those of you who are not familiar with Canada's geography Ontario is actually a province and not a city >
I live in Toronto so I added it manually and set it as default . However the Sense 3.0 weather lock screen still shows Ontario and not Toronto and there is no way to edit it I looked around and didnt find another thread similar to this plz help
Thanks
this ALWAYS happens to me whenever i flash a new rom, i live in toronto, and it always starts as ontario...just do a full sync a few times (make sure weather is checked on) and it should show up no problem...if not, do the 2/3 syncs, reboot and it should be fine
EDIT* worse case scenario if none of that works, open internet, go to google and do a search, and when it asks to save your location, say remember, and then sync weather and it will show
Hey thanks for the reply I tried syncing 2-3 times but still get the same also what do you mean by 2/3 sync? should I sync 2 times and then reboot during 3rd
lol my bad i meant 2-3 (as in two-to-three times)... if its still not working after all that, try clearing the cache for the weather app (go to settings-applications-manage-"all" tab-scroll to the bottom and find weather-clear data)
hopefully that works, and if not try to remove all locations you added in weather and then sync weather again
Nope still the same Ontario (Current) >.<
Could it be because I've turned autosync off?
most definately, turn it on, and if you dont have data, put airplane mode on, then turn on wifi
Haha nope I have unlimited data I tired rebooting and using it but still no success Meh I guess I have to unlock it to see weather info
Thanks anyway
wait, it shows it on the home screen and weather app, but not on the lockscreen?
try clearing the cache on the app under "all" again but this time clear for "HTC Weather Wallpaper"
see if that does it for ya
Its not active I cant do anything with "HTC Weather Wallpaper" app. My phone is not rooted
I finally figured what was wrong All I had to do is to turn on "enable always-on mobile data" in Mobile network settings
