I have this problem with yahoo mail while connectoed to my computer it works fine but when I connect by Meia Net it keeps asking me to verify my user name and password. Its and intermittent problem as sometimes it does work. Has anyone had this problem and if so how do I fixz it. Thanks.
This happens to me occasionally, I had never used activesync to try to resolve it so I am unsure. I had problems with POP so I changed to their IMAP mobile and haven't had an issue since. I always thought it was a conflict with too many concurrent logins occurring.
i use imap for better mail management. i get this issue with both my gmail and yahoo mail accounts on my phone. i just hit next when i get them and it doesnt happen for days at a time. i unno how to fix this but im interested in someone figuring it out.

Bought the Captivate over the Iphone4 but I'm having second thoughts. I like almost everything about it. I'm confident the gps issue will get resolved. As far as 2.2, who knows. My biggest problem is with the email. I've set up hotmail and when I go to retrieve my messaged it's a very slow process. Sometimes several minutes to retrieve 5 or 6 messages. If there is an attachment, the pinwheel will spin for ten minutes and says loading. Wi-Fir or 3g doesn't seem to matter. Sometimes it will download the file/photo or part of it, sometimes not. The ATT store thinks it's software and doesn't want to exchange the phone. Customer service best solution is to clear the cache/cookies daily. It helps some but isn't the solution. They said some phones are better than others regarding email. If I open hotmail it the browser it works/downloads fine. Any help would be appreciated.
Also, any way to change the alarm tone in the calendar? Hopefully I can get these issues resolvedbecause I really don't want an Iphone. Thanks.
Sounds to me like Hotmail is just slow on the IMAP/POP3 protocol. Have you tried it with a different mail provider like Yahoo or Gmail to see if they are all slow or if it is just Hotmail?
I switched to k-9 mail (free app) and I have less trouble with my different emails
Maybe you could try it?
I've also tried Gmail with the same results.
Did a search and could not find a similar thread addressing this issue. If I am incorrect, I'd appreciate being pointed in the right direction.
I am currently running Assonance 5.2 and have set up Yahoo and Exchange accounts, with the phone set to check for email either every 5 minutes (for my Exchange account) or once every hour (for my Yahoo account).
I have noticed that, on a daily basis, my phone will stop checking for emails altogether even though background sync is turned on. Additionally, even when I delete emails from my phone, they remain on the server. Lastly, even though I have read an email, it still shows up as unread on the server. The phone has stopped checking at random times - on Monday, it stopped checking after 3:00 p.m.; on Tuesday and Wednesday, it stopped sometime after 6:00 p.m.; and on Thursday, it stopped checking around noon.
I have tried Improved Email and K-9, but the problem remains. As an FYI, I had the same problem even when I was running an unrooted phone that was running the stock Eclair.
Have other people encountered this issue? If so, is there a way to get the email working correctly? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Same here. I use mine for corporate and I have to say my Iphone was 10 times better when it came to email etc. Sometimes I can force a refresh....others I have to reboot. But I have missed some critical emails because they just werent syncing. I have learned to deal with it although it stinks. My email blows up during business hours, so If I havent gotten an email in ~45min, I know to check it.
I had this problem in the stock email client. Clearing the cache under the applications settings menu fixed it for me. After I had to fix it this way for about the 3rd time, I switched to K9 mail and havent had a problem since. I have hotmail, POP and Gmail accounts.
Im stock, by the way.
sent from my Captivate
Thanks for both of your replies. I'm glad (sort of) to hear that I'm not the only one with this problem.
@mike parsons - I am in the same boat as you where I have missed critical work emails due to the phone not fetching my email. I also grudgingly agree that the iPhone mail client worked much better. The only thing I could do to get the email on the Captivate working again was to restart the phone. Even then, I sometimes had to restart 2-3 times before the emails were sent to the phone.
I had this issue with stock Eclair 2.1 on my Rogers sourced Captivate SGH-I896 running Eclair 2.1-update 1.
It happened rarely with POP accounts, never with G-Mail, but with Exchange ActiveSync it was disastrous. I set up and configured this, and with my old Windows Phone 6.0 it did this maybe five times in 18 months.
During the off-time between Christmas and New Years it only received e-mail properly on ActiveSync two days out of eight. I didn't get much e-mail during that time either.
Sometimes it helps if I manually changed it from automatic (push) to every 15 minutes and hit "refresh" but most often it did not. The only fix was to remove the ActiveSync account and re-establish it, and it would work fine for a week or so until it started doing this again.
Another thing that seemingly affected it, was how much e-mail I would sync. It would happen quicker if I sync'd the last month of e-mail versus let's say one or two weeks.
I had run Cognition 2.3B7 without a hitch for about a week and a half and it never happened.
I just upgraded to the stock Froyo 2.2 and I'm hoping this isn't an issue with the upgraded client.
Use k9 mail. This is lots better than stock.
@diablo009 - thank you for the suggestion. However, I had the exact same problem using K9, so I am not sure what else I can try.

Did u try configuring k9 to fetch mails at intervals? It would be "folder poll frequency" under account settings. Want to see if u did this too.
Also, some apps need "background data" to be enabled in settings. Is that set? Same question about "auto-sync" being turned on.

Thanks for the suggestions - yes, I had tried different folder poll frequencies on K9 - 1 minute, 5, minutes, 15, minutes, and so on. However, there are still times when I won't receive an email for hours even though K9 is set to poll much more frequently. I will only learn of this when I check my mail through my home or work computer. In fact, on occasions like this (when I learn that phone hasn't downloaded the new messages), I will go into K9 (or the email app) and hit either refresh or check mail. Even in these situations, the new mail won't show up on the phone until I restart the phone completely. Again, I had this problem both on stock Eclair as well as on Assonance 5.2.
Also, I had enabled "sync server deletions" on K9, but messages still don't consistently get deleted from the server.
Lastly, background sync and auto sync are both enabled in settings.
On 5/19/11 I noticed my phone was getting hot and was not responding when I hit the red key to wake it up. I thought I had an application that was causing the problem so after dealing with it for a couple of days I did a hard reset and started rebuilding my phone app by app.
Well, it didn't take long before it started happening again. At this point I had only configured my email accounts, 1 gmail and 2 other. I thought my phone was about to die (it just came off warranty last month). Then I noticed that tmail.exe was running and consuming ~95% cpu. I figured it was something to do with sending and receiving mail so I went to my email accounts and found that my gmail account was stuck at logging on.
I deleted the gmail account and the problem has gone away. This is not an acceptable solution because I get most of my mail through gmail.
My question is this: WTF is google trying to do now that our email accounts lock up our winmo phones and is this happening to any other os's?
John
This started happening to me as well on my Touch Pro 2.
tmail.exe gets stuck at 100% and when I open gmail it appears to be hung at "disconnecting"
The account works fine if I click send/receive manually. This just started happening a few days ago.

I suspect most people are not savvy enough to realize the problem is tmail-gmail.
Count me in on this problem too. HTC HD2, WM6.5. First noticed something was up on Friday morning (5/20) when I woke up and my phone was dead. Recharged during the day but the battery was still draining and phone was running hot! Sure enough, tmail.exe running 95% cpu. I've just deleted my gmail account, but this isn't really a solution of course. Prior to that, I tried switching over from imap to pop, both via gmail settings and on the phone, but that didn't stop tmail from jamming up again upon manual send/receive. I'm sorry that I have nothing to add except more confirmation of the problem.
this problem was reported first in duttys rom thread.there is quite some discussion on that matter over there.it could be interesting to work on a solution here instead of in the rom thread.
user ny_limited has done some detective work already.maybe he can come over here.
Same problem on Xperia X1 runnning WM6.5 (826x rom).

XDA HD2 thread on this issue.
Just so we're clear, this is a problem with Google. They changed a bit of data within their IMAP processing at or around 1900 on 19 May 2011 EST. This is when the problems began rolling out. Google is the one that needs to fix the problem. It is in no way related to anyone's ROM.
To fix the problem temporarily, you can switch Gmail to use POP3 access instead of IMAP or set it up as an exchange server. The exchange server would consume far less battery than either IMAP or POP. Do a search for the settings. It's pretty simple.
EDIT: Google is aware of the problem and is working to fix it. Check the following thread for updates into the matter.
IMAP access from POutlook is randomly hanging - Windows Mobile 6.5.x
Temp Fix
I saw this in the Google thread and tested it. It works!!
In your mail configuration, go into manual setup and change the server address to POP.GMAIL.COM. Yes, IMAP works on pop address and it connects/disconnects correctly. ;)
EDIT: Google must have made a change because both addresses resolve to the same server. What was once a hard failure every time now seems to work for a while but some are reporting that it still eventually hangs tmail. Let's hope they're rolling out a fix...
Starting over from scratch solves the problem.
Either delete cemail.vol or do a hard reset. Seems that freshly configured Gmail accounts don't cause freezes.
Did this, now my Lion works like a charm again.
Update: deleting, soft resetting and reconfiguring all Gmail accounts also does the job.

I have tried this multiple times since Friday and the Gmail account still locks up after one or two attempts to send/receive.
Yeah, in the meantime i can confirm this. After a few hours tmail began freezing again.
I have this issue too; it's been going on for a while actually, but I have slightly different symptoms; initially it would be stuck at logging on, and I could press send receive to kick start it. At a later point in time, pressing send receive causes it to hang at disconnect. This persists across multiple hard resets, and occurs randomly.
Just this morning I cannot get it to work no matter what I do...
I confirmed tmail.exe eating 100% of the cpu, and there have been more than a few cases of my freshly charged battery near dead only a few hours later, with gmail "logging on".
And to whoever said imap uses more battery than activesync; get the imap pusher service. Uses less battery and you don't have to put up with activesync's crap
Same stuff today, Duttys v25 HD2 RUS. Missed my morning wakeup call, cause of it.
So, as a temporary fix, I created an account at Yahoo! and forwarded all mail from Gmail to it.
Update:
http://www.google.com/support/forum...869ff02960004a41d457a8bf4&hl=en did the trick!
Google fixed the issue.
Ok, so for the past week/week & a half I've been getting notifications that the stock email app has a sign-in error & I have to re-enter my password. I only have my yahoo account tied to it, no work email. It happens a few times a day & is pretty annoying.
I've deleted the account in the app & re-entered it, but that didn't fix it. I've re-entered my password, but after a bit, it give's me the same problem. I've changed my password in Yahoo, but still no fix.
I didn't see anything when I searched the forums, don't know if anyone else is having this prob or if I'm just special.
If its like this it has been happening alot. My wife is fed up with it.

Mine has been doing this for a few days too. Weird!
Having an issue with Exchange Active Sync on stock 4.4. Basically it works for a few email pushes, but after a while, the sync gets stuck "syncing" and never actually pushes emails. Furthermore, it eats CPU cycles and does not allow the phone to sleep.
Anyone else have this issue? any recommendations for fixing this? I've already tried clearing the cache for the email app and also deleted the exchange account to no avail.
Any help is appreciated, I do like the new email app UI, but I can't use it if it's not syncing work emails.
Work-around solution...

This is a known issue for almost everybody. The short answer, set up your email account under IMAP, this is a work-around and doesn't give you all the benefits of exchange, but at least you will be able to work your emails. Other than that, we will have to wait until Google fix this issue. This has happened in the past, I had the exact same issue with the Nexus One and the HTC Sensation.
I hope this information helps.
