I'm not sure if this belongs here or in another forum but I will ask anyway.
In FdcSoft Task Manager 3.1, I tried ending the process "Opera9.exe" in an attempt to get a new opera build installed. TM said it was unable to end this process, "Do you want to kill it?" . Select kill process, then a message pops up stating " Process Opera9.exe sucessfully killed" ...then the phone becomes un-responsive for nearly 10 - 15 seconds before control is finally restored. I then notice that Opera9.exe is running again, and at the bottom of the processes list. How does one go about killing Opera9.exe for good and prevent the thing from reloading itself after termination?
Device - Touch Pro 2 running WM6.1
edit your registry....
delete Opera9 from:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\BootLauncher\Apps\
and soft-reset your phone.
Also, check me - does your device use Opera9 with "Push Internet"? If so, that may be contributing, since in the newer WM6.5 devices, HTC links Push Internet to Opera Mobile.
I had this same issue, and did the registry tweak above (to stop Opera from loading at boot), and since I had no interest in using "Push Internet", went here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532948
and followed the guidelines. Poof! No "Push Internet", device doesn't load Opera at boot, and doesn't keep re-loading Opera because it thinks it has to to keep Push Internet working.
Good luck...

That, is what is contained in the Bootlauncher key. No other DWord , nor Binary data. So I searched the reg using search function. Using ''Opera'' or ''Opera9'' as the key words. Mostly what came up , were settings related to Manila, Task Man Exclusive, TouchFlo, UserAgent, Lockstream, RIL..etc. What is Lockstream? I'm thinking VZW moved that boot setting someplace.
it's a KEY (looks like a folder)...
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\BootLauncher\Apps\
delete the whole Opera KEY... it's inside APPS

I know it's a key... was trying to explain myself. Take a look and see what I mean. Opera is not in there.
that's strange.

I appreciate the links. I looked for OperaPrel- in the processes list but did not find one. Was going to try looking for an .xml file that may have control over this, but after awhile I decided to try something different. I recall reading about two different services that may or may not play a role in this. One , CMGuardian, and two, Push Internet Service. I honestly didn't tthink I had Push internet. I thought that was on devices that used some sort of WAP connection only. Anyway, in the services menu, I set both of those services to manual start and re-booted. Upon startup, I noticed memory usage was down a little, and also that Opera9.exe was NOT in the processes list. I haven't tried installing another version of Opera yet but will soon. Hopefully this resolves that other issue I had. Thanks for your help in this matter.

Please help, this is very annoying. Each time I do a soft reset and the Machine boots up again I get the error:
The file "" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file

I suspect some damaged autostart item causing this, since it says << file "" >>. I checked the Windows/AutoStart folder and could not find anything suspicious. What other ways do exist in WM5 to autostart programs ? I have to find that entry... it's really annoying.

Following registry key check you must:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Init
To desktop Run key equivalent it is.
I could not find any suspicious entry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Init.
However I checked out HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\ in the belive that these are system services loaded on startup (?). I noticed one strange anomaly: All the services listed there have a string value named "DLL" that has a path to a dll assigned to it. The service "Trusted" however has an empty DLL string value. Could this be the cause? Could someone else check if they have the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\Trusted on their Prophet and if there is a value assigned to the DLL string ?
Hmm, didn't know about that one, but now that you mention it, here's what I have under HKLM\Services\Trusted:
PushRouter pushrouter.dll
SIMInit siminit.dll
SIMToolkit simtkit.dll
WSPPush wsppush.dll
Push mail is on so I guess that's why they are there. No key named 'DLL' though. I think it will be safe to remove the empty entry, but you should back up your data just in case.
P.S. Any links in your startup folder? The link may look normal but could have a bad string inside cosing the problem. Just a thought.
Here is what's in my Startup folder:
CapNotify.lnk: 32#"\Windows\CapNotify.exe"
custTDYTSK.exe
GamePad.exe
HomeZone Core: 36#"\Windows\V2R\Homezone\HomeZone.exe"
HomeZone Display: 44#"\Windows\V2R\Homezone\HZDisplayDataSMP.exe"
Init_Tray.lnk: 39#"\Windows\Init_Tray.exe"
PhotoContacts.lnk: 51#"\Programme\Photo Contacts PRO\PhotoContacts.exe" "-silent"
poutlook.lnk: 21#:MSPOUTLOOK
sddaemon.lnk 58#"\Windows\sddaemon.exe"
Services.lnk: 26#"\windows\spbservices.exe"
Removing the Bluetooth gamepad driver from the autostart did the trick. It was written for WM2003 and apparently generates this error on WM5. However starting the driver after the device is fully loaded does not generate the error, so I'm going with this. Thanks for your help.
Hi, New here, but taken so much good stuff from here today.
I have my Today screen almost where I want if the HTC Home and LG plug in, but I can't get rid of a few items to Place the LG bar at the bottom of the screen.
As you'll see on the shot I've circled a some icons, now I can lose the o2 icon by removing the Startup reference and i no how to lose the Calendar\Contact bar but I cannot get rid of the Battery and Comm icons.
Any ideas.
Cheers

For the Comm Manager and Battery indicator there is a reg edit... for that you can search the Tips and Trick thread on the Upgraging subforum...
Also you might find some clues about the others aswell....
Thanks for that, but any chance of a little more info.
After going through 72 pages in that Tweaks and Tricks thread I found only the bits I knew already about the install.
I may have been going a little post blind though after page 40 or so.
Sorry, can't help
I know which reg entries (for the battery and comm manager) you have to modify on the Hermes... but I doubt it'll work on the polaris... maybe some one can provide more info in the tips and tricks thread if you ask...
Sorted it, after a tip from another thread, it's the system tray, from that i found the Reg Key.
If anyone else needs it, it is.....
Code:
Location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/ Software/ HTC/ Trayapplet
Then I removed the O2 icon from Startup and sorted.
Decided I don't like the LG tray though in the end lol, but it's nice to have all my desktop to play with.
i too have problems with the system tray bar
when i connect to my PC via usb, or when i launch tomotm, the tray apperas, an messes up my todayscreen configuration, wich i completly do by ultimatelaunch, so the system tray uses some of the space i use fpr ultimate launch
i tried to follow the how tos, to disable it, namely remove the trayap folder in hklm_software_htc but i dont have such a folder there, and i searched fpr a init_tray:ink in my autostart folder, but didnt find anything like that there
anyone knows how to disable this bar?
i use bepes, wm6.1 rom in .67
greetings and thanks in advance, qoka
I am looking for something similar to what Hitchhicker is supposed to do, but without the Hitchhiker's problems on WM6. For me, it was completely unreliable, left tons of connection settings behind in the registry etc etc.
All i want is an ability to find a public/open WiFi network with internet access and connect to it in a single tap.
Any ideas ?
I use WeFi- Free and works like charm. Also can start programms after it connected.
I start Palringo (Free multi Messanger)
I read about WeFi here, the reason i never tried it was this:

Same thing as with the previous version.
It scrambled my wifi settings I had to make a hard reset (Asus P535, WM6).

Can you tell me what particular version seems to work on Polaris ?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: i am currently backing up to try the latest version myself, will report here later today
First report about WeFi:
It seems to erase all your normal (WZC) WiFi settings without asking, including the WEP/WPA keys. And KEEP ERASING those every start.
It would not connect to my own home WiFi (secured, WPA2+PSK, AES) despite having correct the key entered in it's dialog.
After manually connecting using the normal utility, while WeFi still running in the background, it "tested" the hostspot, and found it to have internet connectivity. After that, it reported 1 user being connected on that hot spot (me) ! What this means is, it certainly tells some of the hotspot details (SSID) to it's server. The question is, would it also share the key with every other user on the planet ? If it would, this would be completely unacceptable !!!
One positive thing about it, somehow, it managed to reconfigure the WZC on Polaris to connect to any open hotspot available (good for me), even when the program isn't running (no, i didn't forget to shut it's today plugin down). This is probably some registry setting unknown to us. I'll try fishing it out and report.
EDIT: sorry, my mistake, it didn't really reconfigure WZC, it got some processes installed, running at the background, that i missed :-(
Just in case someone may want to know this, the part of WeFi that seems to do the "auto-connect to any open network" thing, but not the internet connectivity probing, is the WeFiSrv.exe, that seems to require Comm.DLL, Engine.dll, Hessian.dll, OpenNETCF.dll, Prot.DLL, Util.dll and Win.dll to run
as well.
EDIT: WeFiSrv.exe seems to be responsible for deleting the existing "normal" WiFi settings too. As well as responsible for eating a big chunk of RAM while running.
EDIT2: same app also responsible for screwing up the settings
Conclusion: unless you are going to connect to unprotected WiFi hotspots ONLY, this program, or any parts of it, isn't really an option.
Any other suggestions ?
I'm looking for a today weather plugin that updates via 3G or similar, and keeps it up to date. I love the way Titanium weather looks, but I cant seem to get that to work with my today page since I dont use titanium I hate that weird scroll stuff. I would like one that has a simple one box with today's forecast and current temp. I've tried about 9 of them now, and hated every last one.
Anyone know one that's similar to this with live update through cell internet? One that I can install on my regular today page?:

Or please tell me how to install titanium weather onto my today page? Since i believe tweather is live update?(bottom row is what im looking for)
Edit: I will leave this open, but I do believe what im looking for is "Chome Weather" by the great, NRG
Any other suggestions would be great
Actully Chome Weather isnt working either, not showing up in items or on my today screen.
I use the Weatherbug plug in. It updates when you want, set it up in tools. And its free.
Look for the 'Weather To Go' plugin. I've used it, and it's very nice. It gives actual forecasts, and the data comes from NOAA. There's an oem for it at ppckitchen.org-you could probably load it just with the oem, but I'm sure you could find a cab somewhere.
Oh, and unlike manila, it has a very good database. The three cities I use are in it-no weather city database editor needed.
Edit: Here's a link to a cab.
I second Weatherbug plug...it's accurate, configuable, memory lite, and can display temp on top task bar!
Version Number/Name or .cab? I have about 3 weatherbug plugins now, trying weatherbug direct as we speak.
Edit, WeatherBug direct wont show on my today screen, what gives?
Installed it to device not card, ran Setting.exe.... still nothing =/ even soft reset.
Version 2.2.0 go to Options>Settings>General Settings >Display Options>Show All>Done
Unfortunately that did nothing, i dont even see a .exe for the program, just the setup.exe
You need to tap or select the bug plugin on the Today screen to see the dropdown with options & settings!
Right, but there was absolutely no additions on my screen. I tried it all again, install weatherbug, reset, settings.exe yaddy yadda, reset, today menu (nothing) start menu (nothing) today screen (nothing) only place i can even tell it's installed is add/remove programs. Maybe it's conflicting with my energy 6 12?
Wierd that in your Settings >Today >Items, you can't click on or find "weather bug direct' item?
Nope, doesnt exist.
Is there a possible way to have a program boot on start up to curb loading times? Kinoma play is an amazing program, I love its functionality, ease of use, looks, and consolidation...hate the load time. Is it possible to make Kinoma boot when the phone boots to curb that time everytime the phone is reset? Honestly it would be a good idea to do with programs like opera as well.
Sure, add a shortcut of the .exe to Windwows\StartUp
You'll want to use a good file explorer like GSFinder, navigate to opera.exe or whatever, make a shortcut to it, and drop the shortcut in
\windows\startup
as syqe said.
Be aware that sometimes shortcuts to apps on the SD card don't always start up, due to the delays in accessing the SD on startup. However, try it and see.
V
If it doesn't start up, then add to registry boot.
Boot the program after start up or include the boot time in start up, ( difference ? ). Now you have a program that is constantly running in the background ussing up program memory amd battery life. Is it worth the extra few seconds of bootup time ?

yes...i don't know if you have the newest version of kinoma play...its far and away the most amazing application for Winmo, it consolidates almost everything I do online and offline into one finger friendly app...but when you load it, its literally a 2-3 minute wait on my Touch HD. I Run a Lite Rom that doesn't have Touch Flo or anything bloated on And battery life...lol we have HTC devices here, if that was really an issue I would have went with a battery friendly phone. Thanks guys for all the prompt responses.
Check your scanning settings?
I'm running a TPC rom on my Tilt, and Kinoma's start time is a couple of seconds, not minutes.
The only reason I can think of for such a long start time is if you are letting it scan your entire device each time it starts. That was one of the biggest drawbacks to the program it its earlier releases. You can now turn the automatic scanning on or off, and select the directories you want scanned.
I hope this helps
Criss
Yes this information is quite useful that we can choose which drives or directories to scan and thus save our valuable time.
