I support a ton of WM phones here at work..
I got one that is in another state so I'm having trouble figuring it out.
He's got a new HTC Touch Pro from US Cellular.
One complaint he has is when he goes to contacts and starts typing a name.
Say DAVE.. no problem.. it finds all the daves and he can dial one.
After a call the next time he goes back into contacts it still saves DAVE so he has to backspace before he can search and dial someone else.
None of the phones I have here do that so I'm not sure what to try.
Anyone seen this before?
Thanks
Try this. I'm not guaranteeing it will work, but it's worth a shot.
Edit: there's a cab in there somewhere, maybe on p. 3.

Hey everyone,
I am not sure where else to turn at this point but xda... I had an AT&T Tilt that I had modded quite well to my liking, but then I lost it. So I had to revert back to my old Motorola Q9h. There are a few quirks about reverting back to a smartphone from a PPC that are bugging me. Like how I can't find anything like bitpim to back up all my text messages so I can upgrade to 6.1. I have a lot of text messages, some that I need to retain in case some legal dispute happens in the future with my ex. Anyway, that's minor, I can live with 6.0 for now. Threaded messaging would be the only real benefit for me and it's not a must have in this case.
Anyway, on to the reason I am posting. I don't know what happened with my speed dial function but for some reason, my 1 key does not link to my voicemail anymore. I don't have the default voicemail contact that comes with the phone and I don't have a clue what happened to it. I tried creating a new contact with the voicemail number and assigning it to the appropriate speed dial button, but it says 1 and 0 are "Reserved". I have searched numerous forums for some help with this to no avail.
So I decided to try and see if I could figure it out myself (sounds ominous, I know, I know, but I haven't changed anything yet, don't worry ). I sat at work today, bored out of my mind, and decided to just look through the phone to at least pinpoint the location of the speed dial contents in the registry. The only thing I have found that sounds promising is located at:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Dial\Locations\
BUT... I don't read or write in this language. I could also be in the completely wrong location. Any guidance from this point onwards would be greatly appreciated. If you need any more details, please ask.

Let me start by saying I'm sorry if this is the wrong section but it is in relation to Roms...
I had my Wing set up on ttran's Open Touch v3.0 Biggy for a goooood long time (it was around when v4.0 was coming out) and all was perfectly good. No real issues. Today my boss said "Hey, let's get your phone synced up to get work email through there." After explaining I really didn't want to, he assured me everything is flawless on his Palm which runs Windows Mobile. "I've got this down to a science." Well long story short, he jacked the phone up BIG TIME! I lost all my contacts, I lost all my SMS, the phone would lock up doing anything except to play a game, I couldn't load the old backup on my SD card (which was from HTC Backup program)... again, the phone was JACKED. I think it all happened when the email wasn't working right because some settings weren't right so he deleted Microsoft Exchange Server on the phone and then the issues started. Anyhow, I get home and figure I need to update to a new Bad Ass Rom so no big deal. I find ttran's newest 7.7 Rom and get it set up. Then I load up HTCBackup so I can restore the contacts, messages, etc. Once I do that, all the contacts are back (thank god) but when I go to check my messages, there's not even the option there!?! It only has "Setup Email." Not even the option as if SMS/MMS was nowhere to be found. I looked everywhere and NOTHING! So I flash it to the v3.0 and get the contacts back and it's fine now but I really like the look of the newer Roms (and might want to try some other cook's too).
So my question to you all is what am I doing wrong?!? I'm confused to a new degree and am just smart enough about these phones to get a Rom flashed, I'm far from technical. Please let me know what you all think here. I'm considering trying to HardSPL the phone and trying the new WM6.5 (do I need HardSPL for that?). The way I see it, if I brick the phone, I was considering changing to the new G1 anyway. lol I'd really rather keep this phone as there's so much cool **** I can do with it thanks to the amazing cooks here on XDA! Love this site and my Wing... it's the only phone I've ever had for 2 years and still love it.
Help!
Anyone have an idea?
Jus reflash the ROM to get back your MMS/SMS then restore the backup again ..
if you want to flash to most of the newer roims u do in fact have to hardspl for them to work and not brick your phome, as far as mms/sms, are you trying to retrieve your old messages hat were on your phone or just the option to be able to send and receive them, as far as i know once you flash you will always loose all your saved messages and if you just want the option, some dont have mms working you have to install arcsoft and network wizard and that should do the trick hope iv helped with your problem
I went ahead and reflashed it back to the 3.0 as it used to be, then installed the HTCBackup and restored my contacts. Sure I lost all the SMS/MMS but oh well. When I tried flashing back to the 7.7 and restored my contacts (since they would be lost again, is this normal?) but again, the Rom doesn't even have the option to do any sort of messaging. I said screw it and went back to the 3.0 and have it now. What I'm wondering now is why does the messaging now thread them like it used to? I get the messaging like any regular phone, one message at a time. The way it used to would keep a thread of messages from each person. How can I correct this? Should I just HardSPL the phone and go to a new Rom??
any ideas??
search threaded msg hack. should guide you through the steps
Can anyone help me find the network wizard for the Wing? I want to upgrade to ttran's 7.7 rom but the messaging doesn't work. I have searched on here and all I find are people saying you need to use it, nowhere on where to find it. Thanks!
as far as i remember, ttran's latest releases had a lot of bugs in it.. sadly, ttran lost his phone before having a fix on these bugs.. i also remember having a lot of sms/mms issues.. you can try reflashing again to rule out if its a bad flash..
the most stable/fast/reliable one is the open touch 6.5.. its the one with the clean front screen. this is what im using

search = network wizard wing
fifth one
Thanks. Found it but it was already installed on my 3.0 which I've decided to stay with. I read that you need the Network Wizard to update your registry to get MMS messages but when I go into it, all it asks is my carrier. That's it. I also have an HTC Network Setup and that doesn't have anything of the kind either. Why is it everyone says something but I can't seem to find it and it looks so basic on my end?!?
Also, how do you get .rar games on your phone? Possible even?
Thanks everyone!
anyone familiar with updating the network?? I'm not getting it.
very interesting. I keep hearing that you need to edit your network settings but when I can't get it, I can't seem to get anyone who knows to answer me.
Well I guess this won't be an issue now. I appreciate.... well... ttran for coming up with clean Roms but I just wish I could've had help making it work. Doesn't matter now as I'll be getting an iPhone here soon. I've had more help in the last 48 hours on what I need to make it work with T-mobile than I have on this site since I came here years ago. I always get the short answers with no clarification and no one wants to help with that.
On a serious note, keep up the great work Chefs. The roms look great.
Hey there you guys. I was wondering if any could possibly help me out here. Here's my problem. I just recently purchased my HTC TP and have come to realize that everytime I recieve a text message, the timestamp on it is 7 hours ahead of the actual time. Sending texts is fine and the time on it is correct, it's just when I recieve them it's wrong. I purchased my TP 2nd hand form a guy off craigslist and he had already unlocked and flashed it, and over the past couple days I've just updated it to a newer XBmod, but this issue had alraedy existed before I had done so. I've tried looking online and have failed to come up with a solution. So yeah, if you guys have a possible solution for this issue it'd be great! Much thanks.
I also have the same problem on my Touch HD. I remember this being solveable by editing or creating a DWORD value in the registry. I would wait for someone who actually knows what they're doing first though.
Guys, assume you have your proper location set in the regional settings and not some other country?
Yes I'm in GMT+2 (+3 in summer like now) I get it off by hours AND minutes.
all my settings are correct.
I have a cab for df timefix somewhere, i will fish it out and post it when i get back home.

Hi guys!
Was poking around online, and found this page: http://www.phonedog.com/cell-phone-research/blog/part-1-guide-to-windows-mobile.aspx . It lists a few great programs (many of which have been developed by you folx here at xda). There are two phenomenal ones that work quite well on my TP2.
The first is the SD card tuneup. I don't know why, but it seems to make my WHOLE PHONE go faster. I love it.
The second is the advanced configuration utility. A great way to access tons of settings to better tweak your phone.
Hope it helps you guys as much as it does me.
Warning for verizon users
Be very careful here and learn from my mistake. I did the reg edit from the linked page for increasing the threaded sms space. I copied the file over to my PC, made the edit, pasted back and reset. When I went into text messages and clicked "all messages" it wouldn't open. I hit reply and it wouldn't open. They only way I could send a text was either from favorites or contacts. I still had the original file so I pasted it back reset but but still f'ed up. I finally had to hard reset to fix it.
Another Warning
I would recommend not using the Advanced Configuration program on CDMA phones. Apparently some settings are just different enough to cause weird problems, one of which is being unable to answer an incoming call. (had that happen on my mogul), still see threads warning about using it on CDMA TP2, so be ready to hard reset if you do decide to try it out.
Advanced Config Tool on Sprint TP2
Thank you last poster on the issue with CDMA and Advanced Configuration Utility. I've been beating my head against the wall trying to figure out why I'm having so much trouble answering the phone. Sometimes I can answer, sometimes not. I've also noticed a few other strange behaviors like not getting the pop up "snooze" message I used to get when using the phones built in alarm.
Looks like my only way of not only removing the ACU but also fixing these problems is a hard reset? That seriously sucks, but at least I have a potential for getting these functions working again.

Here's a link to a way to fix things without a hard reset. At least it will fix the phone
answering problem. Be sure to stop using Adv Conf too!

For some time now, I've been having a problem with my Touch Pro. Some time ago, (about a 2 months or so) I have been recieving harassing texts and from "Unknown Sender" or "1234". Where the texts come from isnt so much the issue, the issue is that whomever is sending the texts can see any text messages I send; my call log; my emails and any picture mail in my phone. I've also been told that voicemails have been forwarded to other people even before I hear them. Im sure its like a vendictive ex girlfriend or a friend of theres of something...but I cant figure out how to stop it.
I havent called Sprint, I have master reset my phone and restored my backed up data, and then it started up again. I havent left my phone around anyone, or taken it to a sprint store ever for repairs or anything...so...I just cant figure it out.
If anyone has any suggestions of where this might be coming from or how to stop it, I would greatly appreciate it. Im thinking of getting a new phone or switching carriers...
Thanks.
Possibly someone has cloned your SIM-card.
SIM card cloning is by the way not very easy, but still possible.
When so, the only way around it, is to have the current one blocked and buy a new one.

may be your ex or somebody installed phone creeper on your phone!
try to flash your ROM... and dont restore your data for a few days and see if the same things happen
hope this will help
Yeah, it sounds an awful lot like someone slapped you with creeper. You can hard reset, but not restore, and see if the problems go away. Or check the \windows\startup folder, and see if the creeper startup link is there (not sure what it's called-that thread is too long, lol). Or, use sk tools to see what runs at startup, and disable creeper or whatever it's called on the the device.
Of course, if you figure out that it is creeper, and you know who did it, you may want to see if you can have a little fun at their expense before disabling it. That's definitely the way that I would go.
