Hi all.
Sorry, probably a simple question. I'm using PHM Reg Edit and I'm getting bored of having to make the changes on the phone itself. Is it possible to edit the registry from my PC either using PHM or something else? Obviously cooks create ROMs with reg edits baked in so I sure there is a way.
Thanks.

There are many. Total Commander is a good multi-purpose tool. I personally like MobileRegistry Editor - it lets me edit the registry from the PC.
kernelguy
i use resco explorer, simpler to use and costumizable
Until lately I've been using Tascal Reg Editor--its small and doesn't need a cab install, just the exe. However I recently found the latest version of dotFred's Task Manager has a mode to edit the registry. Its a good tool to have...
use this from your pc its faster.
extract were ever you want and open it, enjoin!!
i made some of 'Open Path' in my explorer.
but, i want to delete some of it.
i think it saved in registry.

I'm planning to pick up my Fuze on Tuesday. Can anyone recommend a small, efficient registry editor?
Thanks!

try the advised search options..
I'll stick with total commander it's a bit more and very effective.
Im a fan of PHM as well, but his is a site I made thats got all the common registry entries in it that you can make an installable cab file for. You can add your own as well. Much faster, and reversible by uninstalling the cab:

Okay maybe a stupid question. I installed PHM while my phone was active synced and my computer said it was installed, but I never saw anything on my phone and don't see it in the "programs" folder. This is an AT&T FUZE.

reinstall... if it installed the first time, ur not losing anything if u reinstall (just replace it), and if u messed it up, reinstall since it didnt make it on ur phone anyway....
I use Total Commander .... more simple I find.
When i goto the Wiki to adjust some things in my ATT Fuze Registry and on/in the Wiki instead of the HKEY prefix its HKLM. Is there something that tweaks the registry with the ATT fuze? My Fuze doesnt have the HKLM prefix keys. And is there a program that i can use on my PC that can edit the registry on my phone with out having to use the tiny stylus??

HKLM= H Key Local machine
It is just an abbreviation that is used by some registry programs and such.
There are programs that can apply some of the commonly used tweaks. You can search the forum for advanced config.

I used that whenever I made registry entries. It's a pretty good program thats extremely lightweight and gives you access to everything in the registry so you can edit it from your pc. Just connect with activesync. Just make sure you either make a backup or you know exactly what you're changing before you change it
also as a side note, some registry changes don't stick after a soft reset. If thats the case (happens when editing the registry for something thats open) power off your device by holding down the power button and reboot.
Access Fuze Registry
I am being denied access to my Fuze Registry using Mobile Registry Editor. When I try to delete a registry, it says that access is denied. I did not have this problem with my Tilt. Am I missing something?
Access denied issue
Your fuze and tilte both usually lock the registry in an attempt to prevent harmful changes when deleting or modifying certain values. But the solution is to use an internal registry editor or some other registry editor. such as the one that comes with pocket controller, if you have the cash haha, internal editing can be done with resco explorer's registry add in, again if you have the cash, but these tools are invaluable when editing your device to your preferences.

Have another Thanks from me for this, man... let me find some very useful things.
BTW, the XML file in the CAB appears to be standard provxml format; I just opened it in notepad, copied the pieces I wanted into another file, made a few changes, renamed it CustClear.provxml, and loaded it with Connection Setup. Worked great!
Thank you. drkfngthdragnlrd

Is this registry pulled from your phone or from a cooked ROM you flashed? Is there a way to dump the registry from a Mango phone itself? Thanks

They were from my phone. I had a stock ROM & upgraded to 7720.68 via the leaked method here on XDA. I than, copied out all the RGU's in \Windows\ of my phone. I merged all these RGU's into 1 large file & imported it into WinCE CAB Manager. Being as they are RGU's this is not the full registry. There are some values that aren't written till after first boot/run by the executables of WP7. I'd say this CAB is 90+% of all the registry.

Excellent! Another question; I am really after my exchange activesync registry keys; do you know if these are in any of the RGU files (I am thinking not)? When you add an account (be it POP3, IMAP4, EAS) does this get generated with an RGU that is accessible?
P.S. I have been using the 30day demo of WinCE CAB Manager and love how it shows the tree structure of your file. Was there any particular trick to merging the RGUs?

I'm not sure about the Active sync thing. I'd assume they get written once you set up your email accounts. You could look, I have no clue of the top of my head, not something I looked into.
As for merging the RGU's, I used Visual Studio, but you can use any text editor to open them. My only suggestion is to pay close attention & make sure you copy & paste correctly. Also, you only need the first line "REGEDIT 4.0 or something like that once. So don't copy the extra entries from the other RGU's.

I copied all .rgu from my phone to my PC, renamed them all to .reg, and then used WinCE CAB Manager to import each one and presto, I have a nice registry and viewer (then just save as a CAB project)!

Yeah, it's nice to have a use for WinCE CAB Manager in WP7 as it's no longer useful for creating CAB's that are installable.
@drkfngthdragnlrd - I did this on NoDo for a start (easy to get RGU to PC) but how did you go about it in Mango? I was reading along in the other thread where there were discussions about this but nothing clearly stated.

I used TouchXplorer to copy the files into an app's Isolated Store & than used [APP 2011-08-20][BETA] WP7AppBackup - Backup / Restore third party app data to back-up the app data. Than you just look inside the back-up files.
