I notice a weird thing abt the GPS on my htc touch pro:
The internal GPS only works only ONE time on each start up. For example, google can detect and use the internal GPS unit automatically and correctly after a fresh soft reset. HOWEVER, if i close the google map and start it again. The GPS wont work and Googlemap says "Seeking GPS satellites (0)" forever and only soft reset can solve the problem.
I've hard reset a couple times but this symptom persists. Can anybody help??
I can confirm the following settings:
1. Location setting is set to turn on
2. All GPS settings are factory reset and set to default (managed by windows)
many thanks

My gps started out working great. I got it on launch day. Then it started seeing plenty of satellites (8+) in gps test but wouldn't use them no matter how high the signal was. Now it only reports for a second and stops updating. For instance, It will view 1 satelite. The signal will go to 15 or so and then nothing changes. I've tried reinstalling gps test in case that was the problem. It still only sees one satellite for a moment and then it appears to freeze. I can't get a lock in maps, even if I leave it on for a half hour. Is there some kind of gps reset or maybe a software cache that should be cleared? It just seems to be frozen or something.
When i had GPS problems on my Nexus one , i rebooted it , or just simply turn off phone and back on.
Thanks for you're advice, but unfortunately I tried that all ready.
Hello all,
I'm having this problem with my HTC Desire S.
Everytime I start an app that uses my GPS, and tries to get a fix. Like maps, runkeeper or GPS Status. I lose my data connection.
I can go to my settings then. And in my settings its still turned on, but I dont have the little icon on top, neither do I have an internet connection.
I can turn off my data connection then, en turn it back on. And then it reconnects again, and both my GPS and data connection are working.
Untill I exit the app that uses my gps, and if after an hour or so I use my GPS again, the problem repeats itself.
Anyone else had this problem and / or know a fix for it?
I've used the search, but nothing came up.
Hello,
I had the same problem but it resolved with GPS TEST application from market.
Turn on GPS and mobiile network then run app Gps Test and from settings menu clear a-gps then update Gps and wait to lock gps to satellites.
After that you can use some navigation software such iGO, Sygic .. and so ..
I solved my problem with this way.
Hi guys,
I'm using latest Primo-s rom for aproximately 3 weeks. Some days ago installed IGO navigation and used for one short trip. Later that day I tried to use navigation, but phone did not saw any gps satelites. Even in status bar there is no gps icon, when I turn on gps. I tried several reboots but it did not worked.
Any ideas how to fix it?
on gps test app it shows that gps is on but it see no satelites. Tried agps data refresh, but id not worked
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA
Stupid question, but have you actually rebooted your phone into recovery and tried clearing the cache?

rebooted into recovery, wiped cache partition and dalvik cache. Not helped.
But I found very strange thing - when I go to task manager and kill process /system/bin/surfaceflinger - phone goes to start screen for several seconds, then goes to normal operation. Atfer that - gps works for one session with several applications. When I turn gps off, and then turn on for a second time - it does not work - no gps symbol in status bar, applications do not find any satelite.
Maybe the problem is caused by you turning GPS off when you don't use it? I never disable GPS as it uses very little battery turned on until you run an app that actually uses the GPS system.
What happens if you just leave GPS enabled all the time?

I always keep gps turned off to save a battery. I don`t see reason to keep it always ON, because I need it only once a week. Earlier, before I rooted phone and started to play with different ROMs, GPS worked perfect.

You are currently using a ROM based on a different device and using a leaked, unofficial kernel. That often means that various problems can occur - and they don't always affect everybody. I am just trying to suggest a workaround that might help you out and is worth testing, otherwise try a different ROM to see if you suffer the same problem.
ok, thanks
I found this thread about agps patch:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21325390
I`ll try this later, maybe this will fix my problem
AGPS patch has nothing to do with your issue. It helps faster locking - and also not always, only in specific cases when default aGPS settings give poor results. Your problem is that the GPS doesn't even turn on.
Also, since we're at it, there's absolutely no reason to turn off GPS switch. GPS doesn't use battery AT ALL until one of the apps actually requests it to function and give position.
My S7 GPS doesnt work at all, i have tried to factory reset multiple times (normal and with Odin), using apps like GPS status to clear AGPS data, changing settings (permissions only for apps in specific, GPS location only, high accuracy, etc) but still no luck, i took my phone into service and it was working back, however it only lasted 1 day, now even if i factory reset problem persist.
Is there anything i can delete or reset to fix the GPS? there must be something software related that its not being cleared properly
NV Rebuild?
Does anyone know how to access the service mode on S7? i tried with *#0011*# but after doing the "back, key input" it doesnt do anything with codes Q0, Q1, Q+0000, 0000 etc
Would and NVRebuild help with the GPS issue?
I'm trying to repurpose this old phone (LG Optimus L4 II E440) for internet radio and I am almost there. I reset it and even reflahed its stock ROM to solve some odd errors. I installed manually Radiodroid (play store says No network so I downloaded apk on PC and transferred with USB) and it works great except for these problems:
When the screen goes to sleep it pauses the wifi connection so the radio stops. I searched this issue and appears to be an unfixable Android 4.1.2 bug.
To work around this I set the screen to be always on and 0% brightness, that works fine until the phone is turned off. On restart these settings revert back to 2 minutes / 100%. I can see that the brightness remains on reboot (low brighness) until the desktop shows up, then after 10 seconds it reverts to full brightness, as if there was some process reverting these settings. Other settings do not revert, for example the lock screen disabled.
I do not understand this problem, I remember when I used this phone that the screen settings were persistent.
Any idea what to do? I would not care the screen going off if it would not sleep the wifi. A solution to one of these issues would fix the problem. Thank you!
Fixed!
I was using it without SIM card (for internet radio I only need wifi) and apparently that was the cause. I inserted an inactive SIM card and upon power on it changed something and now it is keeping the screen settings, finally!! After that I removed the SIM and the setting holds.
I also found out that running the "LG bluetooth remote 4-1.3" app to control a LG CM2440 hifi system, as long as it remains connected to the hifi system over bluetooth, the wifi connection does not drop when the screen is locked.
