Messaging on the Touch Pro 2 - Touch Pro2 CDMA

Hey, sorry if someone already made a thread on this, I wasn't sure what to search for to find out, but here it is:
On the TP2, and I'm sure everyone with this phone has noticed it, while viewing txts in conversation mode, if you leave the conversation open and recieved X amount of messages from that person, when you close out, it will still say you have X number of unread messages, and you have to open and close your conversation X number of times before it shows as no unread messages.
I'm hoping HTC makes a fix for this soon because it is really annoying, but I wanted to see if any of you very capable guys here can make a simple cab fix for it.

I've noticed similar problems and I think it's a bug in the TF3D interface unfortunately.

Holy cow, that was my biggest gripe. I just stopped going into the WM messaging and I use the tf3d instead (click on the first msg from the messaging tab) and stay in there. It works right.

I almost always use the TF3d interface and I still have go occasionally go back in and enter the message again to get the indicator to go away, even after I've responded!

Agreed I hate it. I am not using the HTC interface (went with SPB) but if I get messages and chat in the SMS window it will not mark them as read. I HATE IT!

I haven't tried using the TF3d to see if it works better. I always used the default WM home screen cause I like it better. But either way, yeah hoping they will fix it lol It did it on my TP also, but only after I installed the latest update. With it being on that and on this one, I almost wonder if it wasn't a glitch and maybe it is intentional idk

I have also noticed it too. My old touch pro did the same thing. I have noticed on the touch pro two it changes between two different styles of text messaging screens, it really messes me up because the send button ends up in different spots.

when you're on the sms thread and you're talking to person just use your arrow keys to go up towards the one you haven't read. it'll show a closed envelope to the left of the message and as you press up and pass them the envelope opens up. no need to open and close.

Yes from the SMS inbox that's fine, but from the TF3D interface which is easier to get to than the SMS inbox if you're running TF3D then sometimes you need to read it again.

I was hoping they fixed this in 6.5 but NOPE of course not. WHY THE HELL ARE THERE TWO MESSAGING PROGRAMS!?!?!

Exactly my question. I just disabled TF3D and use WM default I like it better. Plus you free up some resources.

You disabled ALL TF3D or just the SMS in TF3d?

I used SBP Mobile Shell as a replacement for a bit, but i had some problems with it too....Are there any other shells out there worth looking at that might correct some messaging issues?

On a somewhat related note, has anyone else noticed that some people you get text messages will be an hour behind? Like you recieve the txt at 5:30pm and it shows as 4:30pm? My TP did this also. I don't know if there is a setting or something...

dont know if yall figured this out but the second post in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=585101&highlight=mark+read has all your answers. I installed the program and works like a charm. i now have the "mark all as read" option FINALLY!!!!!!! that little orange baloon with the little number was driving me absolutley nutts.

So i have a USCellular TouchPro2 fresh out of the box....
Somehow its stuck showing 1 unread message in the SMS inbox...i have tried deleting every text from the system...installing the InboxExtender and using the mark all read option..the rogue (1) still appears....anything else i can try ??
Thanks
UPDATE --
US Cellular says its a know bug that they are working to resolve....no ETA for the patch of course.....

Try the fix unread message count. Copy to phone and run then reboot.

Hey, on this topic, how do I make it so my default sms is the windows version instead of the HTC one that?
Anyone have a cab for that or can help me for the 6.5 update VZ tp2?

+1 I wanna know this too except for the TMOUS version. I kinda hate the TF sms. Also has anyone noticed thatg when you type in a recipients name, it brings up ALL their numbers? My Tilt used to only show me mobile numbers for the recipient (which makes sense since land lines and faxes dont typically receive texts DDUUUHHH!!!) but i have on occasion sent a text to a friends home phone or fax!!

+2 I also would like to know if i can make WM my default SMS.

Try PocketCM that has sms threading included.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320544
Thats right, PocketCM SMS looks like IM.
Anyone tried both PocketCM and this one? Which ones better?
well the txt is built into the pocketcm app, which makes it suck. It's a great tool, but there is no quick way to text. You have to manually open up the contact, select sms, then wait for it to load up. If you close pocketcm, and receive a message, it doesnt open in pocket cm unless u manually open it.
I had a problem with the palm threader, where my gf kept getting double text from me. I just uninstalled it and it removed itself and went back to normal arcsoft mms manager thing.
well i'm using palm app for 7 months and i think its far better than pocketcm (in this stage..)
palm app is quick and you NEVER lose any sms on reset. backup is simply - just copy one fil from windows to storage card...
pocketcm currently dont mark messages as "read" so you must read them twice.. and doesnt take sms itself so if you receive sms you back to outlook..
did any one see palm threaded od wm6 update of treo? any changes?

i also have been using palm threader for...at least 5 months...i had your problem one time to...from my experince i found (at least for me) that this problem was caused by programs like the htc x button..that i would send a sms it would get sent and like always i would close the app...well the app not knowing if it was sent or no bc it got closed would send it again....the way i easlly solved this was by using the new version of htc x button and making the palm threader an exclusive app. this would make it where it would never close, from this it ran faster and i never had that issue again
double post...
well maybe someone will try this? http://www.mykesoft.com/textr/details.php (im currently trying to try ) and this looks like be better than palms app but ive got problems that may be caused by my config. i'll try to do hardreset later..

I have tried textr and have found that the functionality is great but the program has a large memory footprint and takes a while to load. It also does not take the place of the default sms application from what I understand but then again, I am also using sms threader and not the default sms app.
Here is a direct download for the the texr application with all required files for the program to work properly and MY PERSONAL registration key that I am sharing with the community because the trial period expires as soon as it is installed, not 21 days later like it says on their official site.
If anyone can find a way to decrease the memory footprint and also make it the default sms app and load more quickly, please let me know because I like the program, I'm just a speed freak and the app just runs too slowly...
EDIT:: Attachments removed for legal reasons. Just shoot me an e-mail if you are interested(just click my username and click send email)
as the original guy to post this thread..
i have to say even tho the PocketCM looks very nice.. it more of a pain to actually use it for txting and that whenever u get a new txt it wont show up. u have to close the program down and start it up to see ur txt.
and i am currently using palm sms threader and i love it's awesome.. so easy to txt. one slight problem that i am having with it is that i cant recieve or send picture messages but i can still open up the old messages program for that. it could be just me tho..
and this textr.. even tho i havent used it looks very similar to palm sms threader but a little newer. but the memory thing.. isnt for me. if that's the case..
for now im sticking to palm sms threader.. very easy to use program..
yeap i know now why you all say that (oh my english is even worser when i'm tired)
after try - loading time of textr and the memory... i think nobody can say this is better than palm app.. however looks very nice and im disipointed

your problem is universal...no has ever been able to use the MMS feature of the Palm Threader. when i cook my own roms or use thoughs of the chefs i use the new version of Arcsoft sms which has the sms and mms separate...so after u install that and the palm threader u have 2 separate program one for sms and one for sms works awesome.....sorry i do not have the cab for arcsoft mms...tho i do have the OEM if want it.
the reason i put palm threader into my own rom instead of just installing the cab is if find it makes the program ALOT faster...with the cab version the program would seem to slow down after a while...cheers to all

Text Problem!! This really sucks

Ok so when I get a text or email on my TF3D and I open the email or text. Then I hit reply/open the qwerty and the box comes. then I start to type and it goes into my phone!! I x the phone out and im back to main display with qwerty open. So then I have to go back in messages select message and reply.
Anyone else????? This is frustrating when you are trying to type a quick message.
Yes i have encountered this problem, not just with texting. Try pairing with bluetooth in landscape...i bet the passcode prompt does that same thing?

If issues like this dont get fixed I will dump this in the garbage drawer, sad but windows really needs to get stupid stuff like this figured out. I never have these issues with RIM and other devices.

Perhaps try a cooked ROM such as fireROM?? if you leave the ROM as it was when you bought it then you havent played the game!

This is my first windows phone that has had the hardware I like so I havent really done all the cooked and hacks etc..
Can you link me to this I would love to keep this phone.
Thanks!
I think I have read somewhere that you should give it a sec or 2 before you actually start typing the qwerty.
This way you will have the same window infront of you.
Regarding BT, that really sucks but still a one time thing if it's a headset and you do not pair devices every day...
But all in all, I think we shouldn't be worried.
This is just S/W ****ty bugs that will be fixed when we have our great chefs cook their 3rd or 4th ROM release we will have satisfying results.
I just hope this forum gets the attention that was on Kaiser, then we will all enjoy
I remember Kaiser's WM6 ROMs had a similar bug,
Comm Manager kept popping every now and then infront of you and was fixed in time...
We have to keep in mind that this is the start and we will have to be keen on all threads posted around.
I just hope we get all the help from the greatest devs at Diamond forum as it won't be alot different.
Differences in time will be known to chefs and as they cook a Diamond ROM they can add some stuff and release it to Raph as well.
Way ahead of myself aren't I
Alot to look forward to, which is the fun of WinMo IMO
Cheers
the other way of doing it is to wait until the reply screen is actually shown before you open the keyboard.
If i hit reply in TF3d and then immediately open the keyboard before the compose screen has appeared, then yes, it does exactly as you describe.
if i hit reply, and then open the keyboard AFTER the compose screen has appeared, no such problem.
you need to let the messaging app open before you open the keyboard, otherwise the opening of the keyboard triggers tf3D, not the messaging.
Minor bug, and one that will no doubt be fixed soon enough by the devs here.

linking sms-chat with landscape message tab

heres what i wanna see if it can be done. i use VITOS'S SMS-CHAT vigrously. so what i wnat to do is see if it is possible to open it via pressing the message button when my touch pro is in its landscape mode." theres a message button rember?"
just today i bought my at&T fuze so kinda getting familiar with all the details. my abd if this has been adressed before
Do you use it because of the threaded format? The SMS function of the current version of WinMo also threads the messages.

not only becuase of the threaded format. i just like the stability and the design is a big plus
i have not seen the ability to do that yet
and i doubt people will try now that the new landscape manilla is about to be released
but try software called butler it turns the capacitive d pad into a stroke launcher. i have sms for one but just as easy to put your program there

Tellme Application for the HD2

Hi Guys,
Just wanted everyone to know there is a free app called:
http://www.tellme.com/you
Its like Microsoft Voice Command.....maybe it is....maybe its whats included in the new WP7S, however its an app that works on 6.5 and its great, fast and I actually like it.
Take a look and watch the video too.
got a cab of it?
Right, It's USA only... HD2 isn't even on the list and not downloadable on that website.
So whats this post all about?
There is a cab available, it does work on the HD2, to a certain extent. It's from the Samsung Intrepid, which I believe is a non-touchscreen phone, so touchscreen doesn't work properly (and we don't have arrow keys to compensate).
The program promises a lot, but delivers poorly. The voice recognition is quite poor (on my Scottish accent anyway). It can dictate a text message, but you'll be lucky if it picks up anything you're saying correctly.

Thats true it doesnt work properly with non-american accents. I tried to search for La Tasca, it came back with a resualt of blackass.com ???????
I had to speak slow, but it did work eventually.
Out of interest, do anyof you have a cab for Microsof Voice Command ? I have the 1.6 version however it doesnt work on my HD2

Make sure you use the corect MVS, i used 1.6 and it killed phone, not responsive to anything so hard reset saved me.
It actually requires MVS to work correctly but as others mentioned, its not good. Unlike the Youtube demo, it barely recognised what i say on several occasions and i spoke very cleary, slow and with no strong accent etc. Needs alot more work.
does not work at all on my hd2
i installed it and it loaded initially, then when i try to start it, it doesnt come up at all. i tried to install a new version of microsoft compact framework or whatever but then the phone will tell me i have to remove the previous version ,but then i obviously cant b ecause it does not appear in the remove programs list. this is very frustrating, can anybody help me?

Only worry about a newer version of .Net if you're actually told by an application that you need it. Also, when installing something and it tells you you need to remove the existing version, that means it's already installed. The .Net 3.5 installation will not tell you you need to uninstall .Net 2.0, so you've already got the version you tried to install. Just forget about it.
I believe it needs MSVC to work, although I'm not sure. I think I had to install MSVC.
I've never installed it since, since it was so crap - I have a very neutral accent, and even tried an American accent, but it was still pish.
i have it on my TP2......it suuuucks and my accent IS american, lol.
btw, it will put asterisks in place when you use curse words, haha, at least it recognizes them with no problem, go figure!
I tried to send a text message, it got everythin right, but the message just sat in my outbox ...
Anyone else try this??
Marty
i just noticed that 'translation', blackass.com, lol. i wonder what you would have got if you DID ask for blackass.com! :O) ahhh, technology, more fun than the proverbial barrel of monkeys at times!
better this , voice ommander or something else? just to understand the maerket now
works great on my tmobile htc hd2
Oh, I hate TellMe so much I want to scream. I've managed to successfully use it on two occasions (where it actually understands what I've said). More often than not, it simply "thinks" and "thinks" until, ultimately, saying "Sorry, didn't catch that". I don't doubt that it works great for some people, but for this thick-accented outer-Bostonian, TellMe is an exercise in futility (and definitely not an app to break out to show off the HD2's power!!).

I'm having the same problem.
I downloaded the TellMe application for HD2 at mobile underground
I have installed the WMPPC_TP_TP2_HD2.cab on my device and the application runs but when I send a text message the message appears to send ok but then gets stuck in my outbox. The message stays there until I send a text the old fashion way and then all the text messages are sent out.
The instructions on the mobile underground website say to make sure you have .NET CF 3.5 version:
*TELLME*: Install NETCFv35.wm.armv4i.cab.zip first on your WM PPC, before installing the TellMe App, get it here media..fire...

But, I when I tried to install this I received a message saying I already had a newer version. See screen shot showing my 3.5.9198.0 version of the .NET Compact Framework. So, I'm assuming I have a newer version that should work with the TellMe but so far I have been unable to get it to send text messages properly.
Also, I'm running Voice Command v1.6.21889 , which came on the phone originally.
Has anybody else had this problem? Anybody know of a solution?
I have two T-Mobile HD2's sitting here with this installed, all work fine, except the same outbox issue on texts. I wonder what could be the issue or if there was some way to trigger the sending automatically.
I have an idea but not sure how to make it happen.
Obviously the TellMe application is only composing the message and putting it in the outbox.
So, the HTC Messaging should be able to periodically tell that a message is waiting or simply just try to send messages every now and then. After looking at the option in the Settings->Options while you are in the message application you can see that there are 4 options for Delivery: Immediate, 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week.
I wonder if there was a way to set the delivery at 1 second if it wouldn't try to send the message. This is just an idea and I'm not very experienced in customizing phones but I do some programing and could see this as a possibly.
____
The other option would be to write a small program that would check the outbox and send any messages in it. Then you could use voice command or tell me to run the program by creating a short cut the this small program and calling it "Send Messages" or something like that.
Anybody have comments or suggestions on either of these ideas?

Is there any 3rd pparty sms app?

Good morning ladies and gents..I ofcource did my search before i post but only found mass reciever sms apps..I would like to know if there is or it is possible to make another sms app...HTC one is horrific..probably the greatest drawback of this phone ( still so much in love <3 )..any insights will be massively appreciated..thank you.
use the cab to disable htc messaging to use stock windows one no freezes then
im using the stock windows sms app too, but its a bit boring.. well it works very well, and i like it, its just getting a bit boring after my 2 years of using windows mobile :/
searched for other sms apps too, found something like vito sms, or smiley sms.. but they are just cheap :/
if someone has found something better, post it plz >.<!
I saw something about "Slide 2 Send". I dunno what happened to that app. It looked nice.
have you tried sms chat
at least looks better than htc's
Im using a newer messaging client, for me anyway the lag appears to have gone. its only evident when i use swype. If i use touchpal, slideit or other keyboards it types straight away. Followed another member instructions and it worked great, thks clarkdevlin.
- To install it make sure the messaging client isnt already running so soft reset easiest way to make sure.
- disable HTC sense (start/settings/today)
- install the cab file
- option to install cloudy cab (turns off sms sent notifications)
- soft reset
- enable HTC sense
Like i said, working great for me with no lags (touchwood lol)
