Old CM Build smoother for games? - G1 Android Development

I was looking for a simple custom ROM that ran my apps smoother when I ran into this version of an old CM ROM http://android-roms.googlecode.com/files/cyanogen_JFv1.51_CM3-ADP.zip . I was wondering if there would be a build like this for the new 1.6 donut firmware, because the newest CM build gives me the problem of laggy/sticky keys on some of my games, where as the normal rooted build just ran slower. Any thoughts?

maybe you should contact him and talk about the differences

Please justify placing this in the "Android Development" section (although it may be permissible in the CYANOGENMOD thread).
Go.

I was hoping that there were some subtle differences that made the apps run smoother, and if that could be replicated for the new firmeware. This version was stripped down (no battery graphic on lock, 3 screens not 5) and it was the smoothest/fastest I could find, but it wasn't like the other mods. It was also very stable. Sorry for starting a new thread if I could have just posted in one of his CM threads.

cyanogen advised if you had problems with games running slow to disable the lock home app in memory option in spare parts which should free up some more ram, have you tried this?

I have had this same issue on his older builds as well, so the keep home in memory option is not the issue. The game would be working no lag at all, but the response to button input stops for a few seconds, while the game still continues lag free.

- for those who dont like to see anymore Donut ROMs - I am so sorry
- for people who believe only Donut is good for their G1 - it's time to rejoice having a Donut again
- This is NOT my ROM, I am NOT a Dev...I am sharing from MLIGNs Modification of the [email protected] ROM CSDIv4
- since many Devs are posting CSDI-variants in the Forum, this should easily be another candidate....the reason is simple: its the most stable and fastest of all the other Builds of CSDI so far

MLIGN - the Modder
ChrisChavez - the first notifier about the Mod
Features:
Working APN
Fastesttttt, "Was getting up to 2.326 on Linpack with this ROM compared to 2.309* SuperD 1.9.3. Also awesome 3D scores although I don't play and 3D games on it. Didn't have 3D on SuperD as I was running ramhack."
- synaptic_d
*some people reported even lower FLOPS for SuperD (2.273 or so) inLinpack
No Maps, Install it by urselves
Two Themes - white and Black, changeable from built in Metamorph app
Fixed Keyboard for English
QuickBoot
NO RAM Hack, still faster than anything!!
SWAP from SuperSetup
COMPCACHE from Spare-parts
BT File Transfer
Estrongs File Explorer
Supersetup4
JrosMetamorph (no need for andexplorer)
wired/wireless Tethering
Fixed everything that caused CSDI to be unpopular ;-)
Most stable Variant of CSDI
Application response is tremendous fast
DL Link & Video Review of this ROM by Chris, also he posted this ROM first in the CSDI thread...sorry Chris...I thought It should reach more people!

2. Espresso Theme by nephron (thanks man) can be found in his thread here
3. ADWone theme has also been reported to work with this ROM with no Problem, get it here.
FAQ
1. My BT headset does not receive audio from the Phone, what's wrong?
> it's a known Bug with this ROM, No fixes yet but you can always try enabling 'Special Bluetooth' from 'Supersetup/Special Options' and/or try this fix
2. I can't seem to find my EXT partition to install/restore applications to, why?
> There is an Option in Supersetup/Options/APPS2SD and LinuxSwap/ there you can enable Apps2SD. Also pay application can be made available from there.
3. My phone crashes after I set some profile in SetCPU, what can I do?
> Domt use Set CPU, use CPU Options from Supersetup instead.
4. I dont Like the Theme very much, any Idea?
> use any metamorph theme through JrosMetamorph application built-in with this ROM. OR use the themes attached in theme section (Above)
5. Sometimes returning to Home screen takes ages, what the hack?
> Could be some bug associated with the better terminal app, try removing it and use another Terminal Emulator instead.

did u maintain the basics.?.. Just asking,
full wipe and then flash....should work fine....
I have Apps2SD functioning...
Higher MFLOPS values doesn't necessarily mean an all around faster ROM, as I was easily getting 3.6's on FastTest with JIT and the RAM hack, any CSDI based ROM is going to be faster than SuperD even with JIT and the 10MB RAM hack, yet CSDI has yet to reach MFLOPS values above 3.0.
Flashed, and it honestly feels just as snappy as zachattack052's Beta ROM (which had the APN and keybaord fix as well as Brut's mod'd google maps) Good job on the fixes, MLIGN.

Agreed. Thank you, Devs. n_n
No apps2sd
Ok so I did a full wipe and my sd card is already partitioned. Flashed this rom. Now the SupSetup v4 app won't run on my device. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling and still the same problem. No apps2sd for me on this rom?
u gotta go in to supsetup and do it threw there its an option...then check it then restart
Blazing fast on the g1 ~ coming from latest cyanogen.
But im missing eclair browser, clock and mt
My report
The most amazing thing about this rom....
its not capable of running Jit due to the lack of Eclair in framework,
and it doesn't have ramhack, don't think it's capable of that either, but probably could be done,
and yet it still defines itself to be the fastest donut of all! Without all the memory hacks, amazing. Even more astonishing for the 3D game lovers.
Aside from linpack or speedtest scores, This is down right the fastest rom I ever used, including the multiple versions released by all the devs who edited it to their own flavor (zachattack052,domenukk, to name a couple)
So big ups to this thread, as I love to see another version of it has been docked for my collection of downloads
For those of you who haven't tried it, you really should...if you like the level of speed from fastTest(superfast now) and Super D...then you will absolutely fall in love with this one.
I get a 3.596 flop using Complete Eclair 1.2 ... and this is a donut rom and only gets 2.326?
Either way, its good to see people still updating 1.6 roms for historical purposes.

Complete Eclair uses Jit...and feels nowhere close to what this rom feels like (speed, smooth, snappy).
But that is usually how it goes when comparing 1.6 to 2.1 on a G1. I hope Wes G (OE 2.0) can change all that.
Complete Eclair CAN use JIT. It doesn't come stock with JIT to my knowledge.

LOL you are correct I was thinking SuperEclair which comes stock with JIT enabled.
But lets be realistic...you can't pull 3.5 - 3.6 consistently without JIT enabled on a G1.

CM6.1 Barebones "Gingerbones" RLS 5.25 + 4.55 Re release! 01/20/2011

I am releasing my Barebones CM6.1 froyo release! It was based off scooters CM6.1 I took it and stripped it as much as I could while retaining most of the functions in the phone. It has ADW for the launcher and on my phone overclocked to 572 mhz with JIT enabled I get a nice 3.943 Mflop/s on it. I can easilly say it is the fastest build for the kaiser ever as of this posting
Features are : Camera, Contacts, Market, Messaging, Phone, Settings, Super user app, Callibrate and spare parts. If you guys want me to I can make an even more stripped version but I feel this one is stripped pretty far.
(Note: Linpack score was obtained with my own copy of the 4.55 build which has linpack odex'd, attached is a rar with screenshots of proof of score and overclock)
NOTE: RLS 5 needs the account and sync settings apk to sync with google. It is attached on the bottom as an android update.
Download here - Current builds
RLS 5.25 - If all issues are fixed then this is my final build until CM 7 arrives for us. It fixes FC issues with a few apps. Also has Xbin fix and market update from Daedric. Also below is an update to bring your 5.1 install to 5.25. Due to the low adoption rate of the Deodex build I am neglecting to include it since the 5.25 update will work on the 5.1 deodex build.

5.1 to 5.25 Update
http://www.mediafire.com/?b65n42rj6ixho96
RLS 4.55 Odex - Built with Scoot RLS 4c fixed calender sync issues? (Someone tell me if I fixed them or not) and also changed boot animation to fat free froyo as the old one got boring. Same as Build 4 minus the boot loop bug caused by certain configurations. Added auto odex script and updated modules.

RLS 4.55 DeOdex - Same only de-odex'd without the odex script.

Optional -
Google apps android update - Contains calander, email, browser and google voice
Put in andboot folder on SD and in boot menu choose to run the update rather than install android.
Note: This is by now an out-dated update, install and update google apps before using.

HTC IME- Added per request
Same instructions as above just unrar the tar file first.

Archived Builds
5.1 fixes a storage bug in 5.0.
RLS 5.1 Odex - Based on nightly CM 6.1 source a couple days before 6.1 stable. Changed theme to have gingerbread animations, languages cut down, re-added CM wallpapers. Changed some files to smaller sizes. Re added VPN support. Added auto odex script to downloads. Made with fewer languages but includes the vast majority of the ones that were voted on. More features, smaller sizes was the aim of this build.
http://www.mediafire.com/?209cxuh4ikvptwv
RLS 5.1 De-Odex
http://www.mediafire.com/?kzc3l33vh11dq4e
RLS 4 - Removed due to bugs, waiting for Scoot RLS 5 to come out for RLS 4 instead. RLS 4 was a very minor incremental update. Not worth implementing the fix for the crash that was happening for something so minor, use RLS 3 instead. It is stable with all the speed.
RLS 3 Deodex'd - Added many languages, changed vendor.apk and changed a few font files to slightly smaller versions and added sounds from clemsyns release. Also added calibrate and spare parts back in due to their small size and importance to some users. Removed openvpn, busybox and RLSSI as these functions are rarely used.
http://www.mediafire.com/?5ioe4z80db9e7dm
RLS 3 Odex'd - Same as above only odex'd which is smaller and faster but not as customizable with themes
http://www.mediafire.com/?py137bd6yg7qymi
RLS 2.1 - Added provision.apk back in to resolve some screen and call received bugs. Will remove again when issue is fixed with CM6.1
http://www.mediafire.com/?dgtq5qxsxnnjxxx
RLS 2 -Removed due to serious bug
RLS 1

Feel free to let me know of any bugs or requests you guys have!
Thanks go out to DZO,Scooter,L1quid,Thoughtless Kyle and all the other android devs who make our kaiser live longer
Note: This build does not enable camera on the polaris.
anyone try this?
thoughts?
To see more about the build head to the kaiser forums. I originally had it just there but decided to post it to all the compatible devices.
I have a dummy question :what is the difference between odex and de-odex? let me know what is better for my pola100 and I'll try
look in the faq: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756659
well...odex version is continuosly freezing and restarts from logo. maybe is a radio problem? unusable for me. I'll take a look at deodex
The odex'ing shouldnt be an issue. What kernel are you using?
latest l1qid as you can see from my sign I also tried with polaris modules but.. nothing. what can I say... nice ginger lock screen
switch to 1.58.xx.xx radio
I tried this Release... No freezes so far (cross fingers). Runs very smoothly. Latest Kernel, Radio 1.65.38.15.
Regards
Volker
Thanks, If you want an even faster build I will be re-releasing my 4.5 build later today with updated modules and the auto odex script introduced with 5.0
Sounds good. I will wait for it

Sorry!
Sorry I can't help much either lol. I have only tested on a tilt/kaiser. I know it's supposed to work on all 3 builds. It sounds like the polaris is really picky about what radio it has. Which it doesn't seem as bad for you guys because you have much fewer radios.

Added 4.5 rerelease. Contains auto odex script and updated modules. Also added web browser in since skyfire needs it. Use this for maximum speed. Turns out rls 5 is a wee bit slower then 4.5 due to the new features.
Also added 5.1 . This brings 5.0 up to speeds almost as fast as 4.5.5 but retaining all of 5's features.

Video Reviews all ROM's

It would be healthy to look at video Reviews all ROM's on one device: speed of bootup, logos, speed of work, scores in test programs (quandrant), quality of work of the chamber, wifi, buttons of management, the basic appendices - a market, flashvideo (youtube), games (samurai 2), the installation complete set (what appendices are established with an ROM) etc. on each insertion for 2-3 minutes and all can be reflected.
What ROM'swere to be seen in reviews - all, including again appearing. For them already about a dozen. And to make a choice completely not easily for n00b's.
OK. I will collect all videos reviews in one thread. I think so it will be convenient all. After all even the advanced users don't flash all Rom's. And it would be interesting to much to compare them.
If it is a thread to you it is interesting, don't forget to press button "THANKS" under my message.
So I will know that thread is interesting to readers and it I will constantly update.

I dont have a video but I can give you my opinion...
Its different, kinda weird to use, and it seems to restart the GUI when you click on gmail windows sometimes which will restart all the section windows and restart your FB which seems to get kind of annoying. IDK... I think I might go back to TNT 4.x and just use a customization app, I dont like the fact that I cant close the windows either. And it seems kind of annoying when you want to use them you have to push on it once to make it start working, and then push what you want to do with the window.

Yeah, the lighting and everything was good but they should have spent a little more time doing typical things with the rom.
1) running the browser, pinch zoom, full version of engadget load, etc
2) market running, browsing
3) quadrant (yes I realize it's value is limited, still nice to see numbers)
4) launcher scrolling, app list scrolling
5) a game or two, Samurai seems like a good choice to show Tegra working, Angry Birds for overall screen response and familiarity
Excellent wishes for those who writes for us video
thx man really appreciate it. trying to find one i will like before i get my Gtab
This is one of the best posts I've seen in several months. I really appreciate getting the visual comparisons of ROMs doing the same things. My favorite--at least from the visual aspects--is the Vega Custom. It appeared to have the quickest response and smoothest scrolling and I love the background. But I'm not quite ready to move away from my Stock Enhancement quite yet. (Read that as I'm not sure I could make the change and then recover if needed.)
New video add http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PGbo5JfnUg - Corwin's CM7RC2 3/27 Custom Compile
Thanks g0t0.
Haven't had a chance to review the videos (since the GTablet has been ordered and not arrived yet), but I have a couple questions.
Which one of these ROM's is best to use?
After installing the ROM, are they typically updated several months later and if so, how do we keep current on the ROMs?
thanks

Most things that you'd expect seem to work. Please report any bugs. Some bugs may be ZTE's fault & hard to fix due to no source code. This is a basic stripped down modded stock rom, with few custom features, it will stay that way. Don't ask me for extra customisations, make them yourself & release them as addons in your own thread, or just use CM7.
Usual disclaimer applies, no guarantees, I'll just laugh if it breaks your phone, etc.

Cool - the story called "GSF" still goes on - I'm impressed.
After several weeks of being completely satisfied with Elitemovil's ROM, I wanted to try yours. And I have to say: well done. Everything seems to work as it should.
Calls, Sensors, WLAN, USB are working. No bugs so far.
The GPS fix lasts some time but that seems to vary in general - just a first impression.
Stable and smooth from what I see.
Thanks for sharing this new version of GSF.
Edit: Hmm, no overclocking? Didn't you say kernel with oc? And Antutu's Benchmark gave 200 points less than standard Moldovan or Elitemovil. Do I need to change some configs?
There is overclocking support in the kernel, you just need to use an app like nofrills cpu or setcpu (not included) to enable it, or edit a config file in /system/etc/init.d
Antutu & other android benchmarks are poor, not really worth paying any attention to. It might even be a feature that improves the overall performance of the phone affecting the benchmark, like autogroup scheduling. It could just be that you're comparing results at stock speed in this rom vs overclocking in other roms. I can't see much difference, I just got 1600 at stock speed in antutu & 1708 at 672mhz, which is about what I'd expect. It can vary randomly between different runs too.
Maybe it is one of the ZTE libs, I only replaced one for performance reasons in this (libm.so, compiled from cm7 source), I replaced more in the old gsf. libm.so from the zte rom appears to be compiled to use software floating point emulation, despite the cpu having hardware floating point (vfp)... that reduces the antutu floating point score drastically, although it doesn't have much effect on performance in reality... probably some other zte built libs were compiled with sub-optimal compiler optimisation flags too. I think most apps & games where performance is important will probably have their own optimised libraries, so it wont make any difference.
I don't want to replace too many files in this rom for stability reasons. I don't have the source code for this rom, it's closed source, we don't know what modifications zte has made. If I start using too many library files compiled from CM7 source then it could cause problems due to Cyanogen & ZTE both modifying the code in different ways. There could be some unexpected & hard to track down bugs caused by it.
Updated.

Hi mate, grate rom
I'm having problems with the proximity sensor, the screen got black after a call and none of the buttons work, I simply have to remove the battery.
Is there any chance that I can regulate the sensor?

Calibrate your proximity sensor using the dialler code *983*0# or zte emode helper app.

Do you have a zte libra? Does the camera work for you in CM7?
yes, the camera work for CM7 rom, and other rom, only gsf2 r2 under not work. :\

Can you put a logcat on pastebin.com for me please? Need to know what camera sensor it is. Mine works fine.

Ty mate
One more thing, this rom eats battery like a *****, is there any way to revert that? Your fist ginger st was absolutely awesome in the battery life time!

Any new rom will seem to use more battery at first (or less, then suddenly drop), it takes a while to build up accurate battery stats. It seems similar to the old gsf for battery life to me. It's really hard to compare battery life between different roms & test it properly, you certainly haven't had time to do it yet.
There will be a few small improvements that should increase battery life in the next version, like under-volting the wifi adaptor & a few optimisations to make things a bit more efficient.
I see. OK then let's give more time to the rom. Tanks mate!

Hi, wbaw.
I was a keen user of Ginger Stir Fry for a very long time.
After this post,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18273709&postcount=138
...I was wondering if you could give us your opinion of the official 2.3.5 compared to the latest CM7 nightly.
Please and Thank you.

Overall CM7 is better & always will be. However there are still a few bugs in CM7 which are different to the bugs in ZTE 2.3.5. The camera works better in this (hopefully works on the Libra now too, but I can't test) & the battery might last a bit longer. Some people prefer the ZTE dialler & apps too.
So I just made it to broaden the choice of roms available, some people prefer the bugs in this version compared to the bugs in CM7.
Also, if I get time, I want to get Dolby Mobile working in this, taken from the skate. It might be a bit easier to get it working in a ZTE rom than CM7. That's the real reason for the rom, but I might not get time, it might never happen.
The goal is to make it as small, fast, low power & stripped down as possible to provide a base for developers to add things to & test. Also to test out & demonstrate kernel patches (mainly from other people) & other small performance optimisations that might not get accepted in to cyanogenmod, I'm trying to keep it stable & close to stock at the same time though. It's good to have a variety of roms available & it might help or push the cyanogenmod developers to fix some of the bugs which aren't present in ZTE roms. It's easier to compare with a stripped down rooted 'gen2' converted rom rather than a full gen3 stock rom, especially as the main cm7 dev for the blade has a gen1 tpt updated to gen2 phone & doesn't use windows, so can't update to gen3.
It might also be suitable as a daily rom for somebody who just wants basic stable, fast rooted Gingerbread with decent battery life & camera, if they don't want all the CM7 customisations.
As usual, great work wbaw... Will try it out tonight while at work!

Thanks for letting me know it works. I can't test it, my camera always worked.
There are different camera sensors from different manufacturers in different versions of the Blade & Libra.
Full source code for the kernel driver for the new camera in the Libra hasn't been released by ZTE (illegal, gpl violation!). Burstlam & Tom G had to piece together the code themselves. I was just using Tom G's patch before, which works for CM7, but it needed another extra patch from Burstlam to get it working for ZTE roms with a custom kernel.
First of all good to see you back and developing roms wbaw!
i decided to to give this rom a try becouse i like roms that are more like the stock one, and this far i love it!
I made a quick percentage batteryicon and black statusbar/notification for who wants to give it a try: http://www.multiupload.com/ATUFNMSZL1

Rom suggestion!

Hi,
don't kill me! i know that someone should choose the rom looking at his needs. But i have to clean a p500 of a friend and i need a suggestion on a rom.
- I've seen that there are many ICS\JB roms, but the P500 can handle one of this without becoming incredibly slow?
- Indipendently from the andorid version i need a lightweight rom, that dosen't take too much memory (since it is not much by default) and with a low battery drain.
- I prefer something fast and stable instead of something with more features but slow and full of bug
- The owner of the p500 had until now the stock rom, so he don't really need extraordinary customizations (so considering the point above i want to avoid the cyanogen roms)
have you any suggestions?
You should try SlimBean by popdog123. I really like this rom, and I'm looking forward to future updates on it.
If you prefer to have everything working, you should use CM 7.2 or CM 9. JB is good, but it lacks of wifi tethering and occupies too much space, so you need to use a ext partition on your SD card.
Original development section seriously? Mod plz move the thread.

Yes, my suggestion is to read through the OP's of the ROM's and pick one based on the criteria you have laid out above.
