The one I made involved changing the Dialer, Telephony Provider, Contacts, ect... they all have copies of the dialer mixed in them and its hard to say what one your system uses where because it never uses the one for the app you are using.

Excellent. Thank you very much. I will let you know how it went.
ok... well I found the png files and recolored to the dark look and saved to the original location, com.htc.resources.apk. Then pushed the file to /system/framework, rebooted and it did not change the dialer. Im stumped.

Hey guys. It seems like in the thread merging of the various theme threads, the white taskbar that I used to be able to find for 2.1 has gone missing. If anyone has it, could they post it up here? It's the white one that looks exactly like vanilla... I don't mind if it has 3G text or EvDo text either.
EDIT
I should mention that this is regarding Damage Control or Fresh... not Legend roms.

Don't know if this is the one you are looking for or not. It contains more than just the taskbar, but you can certainly use as a starting point / modify accordingly.

Of course you do. Fire away...
I'm not an Android or Java guru, so I'm sure there's probably a better way to do this, but it works...
This is an update.zip which has a modified Phone.apk and Contacts.apk in order to allow the user to add an unknown number in the call log to the Blacklist.
As usual with this stuff make a backup first.
And of course I take no responsibility for anything.
For CM-5.0.8

For CM-6.0.0RC1

You don't need the diff. It's just if you want to compile it yourself or see the source code.
Oh, ok, thanks for the MOD
Thanks for this, I've been wanting exactly this for a while now-it only makes sense. I hope cyan or other devs take note of this and incorporate it into their roms, to keep up with newer releases of the phone/contacts.apk's that they use.
Sorry if this is a little off topic but i figured you could take a look at it since you're already poking around... but does anybody notice that the blacklist clears itself after each reboot? its a little frustrating readding the numbers all the time

I don't have this problem on my g1 or slide.
I pulled the links. Apparently it breaks the ability to answer the phone
I'll look at at when I get home from work.
cant wait for update :fingers crossed:
File has been removed from the server....
Can you please re-upload this file or attach it to the OP?
Thanks
Bert
I finally got around to looking at it. Apparently the problem was not with my changes, but somewhere in my build environment.
Essentially whether I build the phone app with or without the changes, I am losing the onscreen answer/decline sliders. Gonna have to look into that because I am using a slide which lacks the hardware answer button rendering my phone app unusable to me.
So since it does actually work, Here is the new diff. It is essentially the same but with a few code cleanups. I am going to hold off on posting the apk's however until i figure out why i'm losing the onscreen sliders. If anyone knows, please let me know.

I don't have the sliders in stock CM6. But, I'm on a dream/G1.

Nothing unless your compiling your own roms.
Hey everybody, I hope you're doing great!
First of all, I'd like to say that I just recently rooted my phone with the latest version of EaglesBlood and I must say that I am friggin' impressed with the speed. And on top of that, the rooting process itself was a definite walk in the park. For those interested, I used this guide.
Now, unfortunately, I ran into a very minor issue with how this new ROM deals with special characters ("é" in this case)
In fact, the issue is that when I unroll the status bar, my network's operator name is shown as "Vid□otron" and not as "Vidéotron" .
I was hoping there was a fix to this minor, yet recurring annoyance!
Thanks a lot for the help, and have an awesome day
P.S. I have searched the forums and have found no issues like this one. I might however be totally wrong!!!
Whatever font that is being used doesn't support that character.
To resolve the problem, consider using a different font that supports that character.

Thanks a lot for your answer, I didn't even know we could change fonts like that haha!
I've looked inside /system/fonts and I found out that the font being used is "DroidSans" which is the default font used on Android Phones, no?
I "tested" the font here with special characters and it works perfectly. On top of that, when I type special characters in text messages for instance, characters like é, è, à, ô look perfect.
Or is the font used in the status bar completely apart from the others?
Alright so I went ahead and modified the fonts like you suggested, but to no avail. It still shows as Vid□otron.
I have used the Coolvetica font.
Thanks for the help!!
Bump! Could use any help!
Bump the bump! Thanks!

Sorry it took me so long to respond.
So you tested it, didn't give you problems in the test, but in the phone your service provider Vidéotron still doesn't show up correct, right?
It's most likely that it doesn't use the DroidSans font, but perhaps another. Maybe the DroidSans-Bold font might be the next place to look.

Thanks a lot for your reply jamadio, but unfortunately even after changing all the default fonts to the one suggested earlier ("Coolvetica"), the issue still persists and the carrier name still has a symbol/square inside of it!
I am really confused, as it worked properly on the stock ROM, and I fail to understand how and why it's not working anymore! Thanks a lot for any further help!!

One more idea. What if the EaglesBlood ROM didn't have the original DroidSans.ttf and was using another font named DroidSans.ttf? Maybe downloading the actual DroidSans font and using it might be your fix.

Hi there,
Any development on this? Have you been able to change to font so that you can see "Vidéotron" correctly? I'm having the same issue here. With the Eaglesblood's CM9 ROM, it shows Vide[]otron (a square), and on Eaglesblood's AOSP ICS ROM, it shows Vid otron (a blank instead of the "é" character). Very strange... I used other custom roms and some work and some don't. I'd be curious to know if you managed to solved this problem.
Thanks

Ok I will try and let your rude comments go this time. You cant fully replace the stock dialer. All you can do is use another app. As your using a sense based rom. you cant fully replace the dialer
Sorry bud, I was just trying to be helpful.
If you want themed dialers full themes have them you can extract the dialer apk from the zip. And flash them in a new zip.

Like I said you can't replace the dialer. That is just a theme. Meaning its the same dialer just different colors. Theming the dialer is not hard but not easy either. If you don't want to do it by hand you have to find a themed dialer that is from your OS version and Sense version and then swap the apks. Or you can dig in amd learn to theme it yourself. A search for apkmultitool and sense theme tut will get you started down that road.

Yeah IT will work. It will take you a few trial and errors as there are many things that it doesnt tell you. Like all the images for the dialer are in 3 apks. com.htc.resources, HTCdialer.apk and Phone.apk. I have themed the dialer before and to get it just right I spent about 2 days editing images in Photoshop and changing color code XMLs in notepad++

I would personally go with CM. I never advice MIUI. Theming while it is hard and time consuming, when you get it just the way you want it is all worth it. Click the Gotham link in my sig to see mine.
And before I get the crap about why from others. MIUI took CM open source coding, Themed it and then made it closed source and then sold it on a device only available in China.

thank you for sharing your device. it looks good. i want to install cryogen. but i'd like to ask you these questions 1st. i asked them in my other thread..
1) can you install launcherpro and desktop virtualizer on a miui and cyrogen?
2) can you also turn it into an android phone 7 with these o/s's?
3) can you install any android app?
4) hows the batt life and performance on both miui and cryogen?
5) can you list a few cryogen roms that are best for battery and performance?
6) what are the pros and cons of miui/cryogen compared to sense?
So I am sure many of you have noticed that when you decompile ClockPackage.apk or SecContacts_Phone_FLAGSHIP_USA.apk you see a bunch of PKM image files. I have managed to replace most of them with PNG files and sucessfully theme both APK's.
Here is a link to both of my ASU Sun Devil themed ClockPackage.apk and SecContacts_Phone_FLAGSHIP_USA.apk. http://d-h.st/q5D
You are welcome to theme them as you see fit. I spent over 100 hours on these. PS: the text color code I use is ffffb310 hex and -0x4cf0 smali. There are some smali edits in ClockPackage. None in Contacts.
Thanks for looking!!!
Enjoy!!!
Ok, I'm stumped. I took ALL the images from XXHDPI and vrthemed them into another SecContacts_Phone_FLAGSHIP_USA.apk file and it didn't appear to do anything except maybe change the statusbar.
I pulled the apk just to be certain and sure enough, the themed png files were there. Any ideas?

You can't do that. The PKM files will still exist. You must morph the whole folder if you are going to do that so it erases the stock one.
Best way is to just decompile and theme it. Use my APK's as a base.

Ahhh!!! Gotcha. Totally forgot about that. I don't do a lot of theming I work on other development stuff mainly but this particular release is going to keep us busy for a while I think. LOL
Dev Edition?
Ok figured out that your contacts apk flashes and works fine on the Sprint S5 variant btw (very nice, this could come in handy later).
However, it does not play nice with apktool 2.0x so I decompiled it with apktool 1.5.2 and it 'almost' recompiled fine except for an apktool dummy error that was being generated by res/drawable/select_all_item_bg.xml. The resource is definitely there but it gave it that value for this line anyway.
Code:
<item android:state_pressed="true" android:drawable="@*android:drawable/APKTOOL_DUMMY_0b03" />
To correct for that, I pulled the stock select_all_item_bg.xml, copied right over the decompiled one with the apktool dummy code (I know I could have just fixed the line but whatever ) and it now recompiles perfectly. I am attaching that file for anyone that may have issues. This xml file is ALREADY decompiled.
Edit: EMSPilot, I heard you got the original images from the S4. You don't still happen to have an stock/unthemed version of contacts we can work from do you ?

i decided that i would try and make a theme for the tmo s5 varient even tho i do not have the device and boy i had no idea what i got myself into when it was time to theme contacts!!! i have never seen anything like this over my past years theming the s2-s4 and note 3! i was like a pkm what??? i was able to edit in my own images for dialer buttons and dialer bg but stopped there! lol. I was truly amazed when coming across this thread and just wanted to take my hat off to you! i have a question tho... sorry if you already answered for i attempted to search for the answer in this thread but am still a little confused.. so again how did you replace the pkm with a png? just by using another seccontacts image and replacing the pkm with the png?? i doubt thats how because you would have to change it in the values folder or something like that correct? kinda like i and i also saw you figured out how to edit our own dialer button image? ive just been so stumped with these pkms that i am like i need to know how you did it! lol.
