[Important] All Kernel builders/ROM developers read this! - G1 Android Development

I posted this in the sapphire development forum, but it applies to here just as much as it explains how you can make your kernels work for all Rogers Dream and 32A Magic users as well.
For anyone who builds kernels - I highly recommend you read this!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=574561
If you're not a kernel dev - but happen to have a Rogers Dream or think it'd be great to have more people using a particular - then pass this link above onto the person who does.
Hopefully it will mean better and more unified kernels in future!

Port new rom to 32a magic....

looks like there is a new update for hero phones...can it be ported for 32a boards?
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...018/02-09-1-5-modaco-custom-hero-rom-is-here/
I don't understand what's so special about this ROM.
I was reading the description and among all there's one application (that you can get it apart of this ROM) and that's it..
I know who can port it, I don't but, why you want it so much?
Is this the update that made hero smoother?
You linked to a ROM that has nothing to do with hero update.
Invalid link source.
That doesn't have much to do with the described topic.
I was willing to provide some assistance, however - I was misled.
Thanks, but no thanks.

Htc Tatoo and Sprint hero Kernals. (For Devs only.)

Here they are just released from my knowledge at http://developer.htc.com
If you guys already had them and this is old news or if these are useless to dream user please delete devs. I just thought this may help with these new hero roms coming out sorry if im wrong

Well, it'd make more sense to post this in Tattoo and Hero forums, wouldn't it? These kernels have nothing to do with the Dream.
I would think this could be helpful here - lots of Hero ports, question is more about proprietary addon code than kernel I think though. Wish we could get Hero BT on G1....

Interesting 2.1 Hero ROM [Question/Porting]

I think the following G2/HERO ROM could be interesting for use on 32A with new Radio.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=622468
what is needed to port it?
- Recommended kernel
- Changes necessary to ROM-Files
Your help would be most appreciated!

PS: Although this is a specific question, AFAIK this would be true for all 2.1 G2 ROMs and therefore could become a useful learning thread...

Thank you. As far as I understand it's only for G1 and not G2 specific ROMs or am I missing something?

ROMS from MT3G or G1 forum?

Hi, been scanning the 'general' threads for a while, but didn't see an answer for this (maybe because it's obvious, idk )
Anyway, should a MT3G 1.0 owner (first gen MT3G) flash ROMS from the MT3G forum or the G1 forum? I know it has to be a ROM for 32b, but beyond that - is there any advantage/disadvantage? Or are all ROMS for the first gen MT and the G1 the same?
I've been flashing from G1 forums, and have been happy with the roms, but am just wondering if I should be taking them from the MT3G forum, i.e. if there's any difference/benefit...still a noob, and trying to figure things out. Thanks for any insight!
Honestly the Sapphire forum was around long before the MT3G. I see a lot of people in the G1 forum making their roms compatible with G1/32B (32B Means mytouch3g) So go there if you can. Check out cyan 2.1!

99% of ROMs for the G1 is compatible with the original mytouch. Also sapphire ROMs/32B Magic ROMs are compatible also.
If you want an Android 2.1 ROM that has a great dev and is fully working then check out the latest Cyanogen. The ROMs title is in my sig.
Thanks guys for the tips. I figured as much, about the g1 and original mytouch roms being good for both devices, but just wanted to put it out there out of curiosity. And thanks for the cyanogen tip too - thinking about trying it, but tbh I'm addicted to sense ui. I just think it looks so much nicer than stock android, so I've been sticking to sense roms only...but sounds like cyanogen is the stock rom to go with if I change my mind!

The "all-in-one-location" XDA Skyrocket General Info/Root Method/Kernel/ROM Thread!

The "all-in-one-location" XDA Skyrocket General Info/Root Method/Kernel/ROM Thread!
Welcome all SGSII-Skyrocket owners (and anyone else)!
My purpose is to help organize some general info, root methods, kernels, and (constantly updated) ROMs into one thread with links. I do not take credit for ANY work posted in this thread as they should be given to their respective creators (and porters). Also, I am not responsible for any action(s)/damages you take that are from flashing or changing your device from the way you received it when it was purchased. So basically what you do with the information you find here is on YOU!
I hope that ALL questions and requests related to linked content will be posted in the appropriately linked thread(s). Hopefully, we can keep this organized and easy to read and update. Any dates are in a "MM.DD" format and are derived from the most recent date the OP of each thread was updated (in a subtle attempt to continue having devs update their OP any time they update their creations...though our devs seem to be cooler and smarter than the rest IMO ).
[General Information]
(Here will be info and links to info that can be considered useful to all users of the Skyrocket whether they decide to root/rom their devices or not.)

[ROMs]
(With our Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket gaining more attention and ownership, I expect our current developers...THANK YOU!!!!...to gain some new developers that will add to the growing list of available ROMs. There are other ROMs out there (not many) but I didn't want to post links to other forum sites. So instead, I will say this is not a complete list of available ROMs but it is all of them available on the XDA Developers SGSII Skyrocket Forums. NO links will go directly to the downloads, instead they will link to the threads. This will hopefully force people to see any instructions and warnings that are related to those ROMs directly from their creators.)

PLEASE try and keep comments in this thread related to making it better, helping me/us keep it updated, and also links to any findings that aren't included. Finally, anyone who either wishes to have their content posted here, updated, or removed from here please PM me and I'll do my best to get it sorted out. Thanks!

This is a good idea and thanks... but it doesn't belong in the Development section.

Thanks for your input. Where do you think it should be? All the linked threads (besides one) are located within the Development section so imo a compilation (or index if you will) should be in the dev section too and at the top. Also, this isn't the first thread of it's kind. I'm sure you've seen a thread like this in each of the dev forums just to bring some kind of organization to the many roms and dev related convos/discussions.
If there is a better place for it to be then run it by the Moderators and see what they think.

Have a good weekend!
Thank you for starting this. I think this does belong in the Development forum and should be stickied once it gets where it needs to be.
Anywho, my suggestion is to add a section for CWM-flashable modems. There are only a couple of baseband versions out now but I'm sure that as time goes on and more updates/leaks come out that people will want the ability to use the one they want with whatever rom.
Ok I'll take a look for the threads when I get off work and add them ...or you could be a pal and PM me the links so I can add them easily. Thanks for your help and opinion!
I will keep this in the development section. Looks like some useful information pertaining to development. Guides are allowed if they are kept up to date

Should we organize the roms by date updated (most recent placed at top of that section) or should we organize it by ciq/no ciq? I'm currently leaning towards by date but it's a valid question.

So is this only for 2.3.5? I want to make that clear up above since the original thread doesn't list our device (yet, I PM'd) or what it is working on.

just saying...
Seen these threads made before (i.e. GSII i-9100) and the usual rules of [Dev] section is "If you didn't build it yourself, it doesn't belong in the Dev section." Since this is more a [Ref]erence... then....
but its always up to the moderator.
Either way, this is a useful thread
Lets keep this one here, it will hopefully stop some usual questions and give some answers
Yeah I got u cue, I really wanted to plan ahead for this forum and help out the Mods to keep it structured.
Again, if you see anything I can add to this please post or pm me. Also, maybe a message to some of the devs that haven't posted their roms here might be good idea to encourage them to create a thread here on XDA and show that we're being pretty pro-active on making the most out of our awesome device. Thoughts on that?
Please put in chronological order from most recently updated to oldest updated.

I thought the dates after each one would be enough considering the way us programmers are. A dev could revise a rom multiple times in one day, and I go off the date the OP is updated. But, if y'all really want that then um...ok. Anyone else agree with Dan?
Good thing. Maybe you can add links for stock kernel and rom for both Roger and AT&T.
thanks
