I am thinkink of taking apart this little piece with mic and two buttons on it and replace headphones with Sony fontopia. I really don't want to break anything. XDA DEVELOPERS! please, help!
why not just cut the wire right over the mic with buttons and put a female 3.5mm jack then you can plug in a normal headset there ?
Ok, I did. Now I can listen good quality music and not missing any calls. BTW, I love the way XDA2 handles calls, music stops when call comes in and continues right after done
does that on xda 1 too when you got ppc2003 on it

Hey all. I'm trying to do this at the moment. I soldered a 3.5mm female extension lead to the headphone socket but i've got a problem. I only have sound coming out of the left headphone.
I know it's not the hima because i opened mine and resoldered the audio jack just to be sure. When using a 2.5mm>3.5mm converter, sound plays perfectly, but when i'm using my modded handsfree kit, i only have sound on the left.
Can someone post some pics on how to properly solder a 3.5mm female extension lead to the handsfree kit mic portion?

at first: sorry for my lousy english and i hope someome can help me. i used an mda I (from german t-mobile). i want to use an normal phone headset whit micro combination whit the mda (...the stereo headset brings to much cabel in my car...), so i made an adaptor from the 4-pin phone jack to an normal stereo phone-jack whit three pins. i used the settings on the 4-pin phone jack, i saw on this page an i used the left speaker. But if i plug the headset i can hear (fine!), but i can't speak (not so fine!). Nobody can hear me. What do i wrong? is ist not enoutht to bring the cables straight througt the adaptor??? If someone can help me, i will say thanks a lot !!!!!!!

Never heard of such a thing. Nearly all cellular hands free "headsets" are 2.5mm, so I guess you really mean headphones. Just buy a 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter for your headphones.

nearly all pda's actually use mini usb headsets(TYTN,EXCALIBUR/DASH,etc.) i was wondering if these headsets could some how be used with the 2125. I cant find a 2.5mm headset that will play through both ear buds.
you can always find one 2.5mm stereo headset (the one come with tornado works great). I myself enjoy using the 2.5mm to 3.5mm stereo headset adapter with my own boss headphone, it gives a really good quality sound. Try to get one from ebay

Um... little rusty on all the models, but not many of those are smartphones. Lots of adapters out there that do work. Unlikely any USB solution will. Not for poor little Tornado.
you guys are probably right, but i lost my headset that came with it and i want to buy another one with a mic you guys know any compatible ones?
Anything with a 2.5mm jack should be compatible. Have you considered a BT A2DP headphones/handsfree set?
I'm using a C3 from Sonorix and it's rather spiffy.

Remote control for music, call display, comes with and takes a standard 3.5mm headphones. Mic is in the clip-on receiver. Better with those newer shorter/detachable headphones so you don't have a mile of cable dangling about.

I use the SkullCandy Crusher ONEs as a full sized wired headset on my SP5. http://www.a2zboardshop.com/more/59603905-Skullcandy-Skull-Crusher-Headphones-with-Subwoofer/. This headset\microphone is 2.5mm four connector by default and comes with a 3.5mm three connector slip-over adapter which I find so much better than a 3.5mm female to 2.5mm male dongle when you use your phone.
For wireless, I had been using the Motoroloa S9 and could have lived with the ugle orange\red accents but the phone calls are always in single channel mono. The soon to be released S9-HD is all black and you can hear the caller in both ears.
I would be interested in any in-ear stereo headset with a 2.5mm four connector plug. Even more so if it had a a microphone.

I see you've made more than a couple of threads on the same topic but they are in different sections of XDA, TBH it doesn't help get you better answers.
You also need to elaborate your problem a bit in detail so that someone could help.
With the little info I have from your other threads it seems that you're trying to get that mic which is in your earphones to work with your mobile. First of all you don't need an adapter as you've 3.5 mm headset along with a 3.5mm socket in your handset which are compatible.
In some cases the mic in the earphones won't be compatible with your device unless & until it's mentioned. So you need to look for another headset with a mic which is compatible with your handset.

The headphones that came with the phone fit the jack perfectly and I can hear out of it just fine but when I plug in different headphones, the plug is too short and the jack is too long. Does anyone know where I can purchase an adapter or headphones with a longer 3.5mm plug? I also posted a picture to compare. Notice how the one on the right is a little longer and has 3 ridges instead of two.

No that is not the picture of the earphones, but if it's made by the same company then they should use the same jack and headphones. I bought my phone off Amazon, just look up Star Note n9000. Normal 3.5mm headphones have plugs that are too short, the headphones that came with the phone are still 3.5mm but they are a bit longer. So I need help finding an adapter or headphones that have the special longer plug. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Hey guys, I'm giving up on trying to find headphones that work with my phone. I'll just buy a wireless, bluetooth one now.
Update: I changed my mind, i'm not giving up on trying to find compatible headphones for my phone.
normally 3.5 is 3.5, but from the way it looks these are more like 3.6 or 3.7 so it looks like they have their own headphone type or something

I'm pretty sure that the 3.5mm is the diameter instead of the length. So both of the headphone plugs in the picture are 3.5mm. It's just that the one on the right's length is a little longer than the other one. I really need help trying to find an adapter for this or finding some other headphones with the longer plug. I also figured out what the three rings/ridges on the other plug meant. The third ring is for the microphone. So I tried to find earbuds with a microphone, although i am not sure if all earbuds with microphones have a plug that's longer than standard earbuds.

i could, but it is an apple one, so i don't know the difference with a normal one with mic, but i can compare the apple thing with a normal one without mic, maybe i can a normal one with mic, will see later this day

Not really needed.
The short one: 3.5mm 2 (or 3) conductor stereo jack (TRS - Tip ring sleeve)
The long one: 3.5mm 4 conductor stereo + mic jack (TRRS - Tip ring ring sleeve)
So, all in all, just look on the net for TRRS to TRS adapter. Should run you 10$ at most. They're a bit rare but hey you'll be able to use any headphones with any stereo jack.

Nope. You're wrong.
Edit: I think Apple uses a TRRS connector that is the same size, but that's pretty much the only exception, because surprise surprise it's Apple.
