can't edit manila files (tf3d deactived) - General Questions and Answers

Hi all, I just installed a cooked rom with WM 6.5, and I want to edit the links in the internet tab, so I unchecked TF3D in the today options, but when I use either total commander, file explorer, or active sync + Windows explorer, I'm not able to edit
\windows\27c65cbd_manila neither to set its attributes to RW and non system file.
Any clues ? Thanks

try using total commander to edit system files

How do I delete files in windows folder?

I want to replace some of the .png files in the windows folder. I get a message that I don't have permission. I want to replace some icons.
Try to rename them and after delete. Sometimes works like this.
I don't have the option to rename. On the device (sprint touch) the delete and rename are greyed out. Using active sync, I don't have the option to rename. I want to replace the HH-FW_iconweather.png file to start with.
Thanks.
Use total commander or resco file explorer, these progs usually allow this operation
wow, total commander is a good app, I will keep it on the device. But, neither of the programs will let me delete the file. In resco, I can't see the .png files.
I found another thread of what I want to do:

where can i get - Resco File Explorer
Freeware CAB
If it is a ROM file you can't rename or erase it while being in windows. With Total Commander or Resco File Explorer you have the option to show only files that are not stored in ROM.
I suppose the files you are talking about are ROM files from a cooked ROM.
And how to...

Hello,
I have similar problem - I try to copy some 'mui' files from ROM to my SD card, but I get 'acces denied' during copying (in RescoExplorer, TotalComander too). Is there any possibility to copy files with 'ROM' files attribute set to my folder? Please help

Another noob weather question

I have read all of the post on adding your town to the weather list, and have edited my HH_409 file. I cannot get it back into my windows folder on the phone. The original is marked as read only. Even total commander can't remove it. I cannot overwrite it! How do I replace this file?
Total Commander should be able to overwrite the ROM file. It throws an error message in your face, but should be fine.
The file manager I use is Resco Explorer, it never let me down regarding moving files in/out the \Windows folder.
You know that editing the file isnt enough, right? You'll need a patched HTCHome.dll... If you're running the original ROM, you might need to install the SDK certificates too.
Thanks Schaggo! Is the htc home plug in language independent? I do have the factory ROM and am getting resco explorer, maybe that is my problem, I was just using total commander and the windows mobile file explorer.
Yes it's language independent.
The File Explorer is rather useless, but Total Commander should be able to replace ROM/Systemfiles. But I'm not a 100% sure, I only know Resco does, it throws a warning message but the file gets replaced in the end.
So if you are on the stock ROM, you have to install the SDK certificates, then the patched DLL and before you reset, select/set your custom city. After the needed softreset youll be able to use any city www.accuweather.com lists!

Read only files maddness

I am trying to modify the TouchFlo 3D a bit (custom icons and things like that), but I can't replace the manila files (for example 3f00cd2f_manila), because of their "read only" status. From what I've searched it can be done by a .cab file (but i dunno a crap about programming), so I'm asking:
Is there ANY other way that would let me replace those files with custom ones?
I know there is also the .theme file for Diamond TF3D Config, but I have no idea how to make these files (if there is any tutorial how to make theme- would be thankful for the link).
I hope someone from the forum will know how to do it
Use a decent File Explorer, not the default Windows Mobile one.
Total Commander is an example that can help you.
The read-only status can't be deleted by Total commander or anything else, since it's on ROM (but can be overwritten, or masked- like with custom backgrounds)
If you try to do it in total commander it thinks for a while, goes back to the file list, but doesn't change the read-only attribute.

You don't have to change the readonly status with total commander. Just disable tf3d in settings, copy your modified files to your phone, then use total commander(phone version of course) and copy over the readonly file. Re-enable tf3d again to see changed file. Later, if you go back and delete your modified file, the readonly file will still be there and be used by tf3d again.

How do you remove all file/folder restrictions in WM6?

I want to rename / replace the opera9.exe file in the windows folder, but I don't have the permissions.
I have tried through vista and through the device itself but no luck.
Can anyone give me an answer?
What File Manager did you use on device? If the standard one try with Total Commander or Resco Explorer.

if these files have "in ROM" attribute, you cannot delete or rename them.
but you can overwrite them with total commander.
disable TF3D, if file still in use - soft reset, overwrite it, enable TF3D
I mean total commander ce (run it on your device, not on PC)
Just to make it simple:
Attached .cab's, disable TF3D before install
Moved thread as not software release.
thank you matey for the cab, does anyone have info on how to create my own cabs
