Left Soft key Hack - Palm Treo 750

I performed the below hack:
1) Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Key\112 using any Registry Editor.
2) Tap on the Default string to open it up and change the value data to eg: Message.
3) Tap on the Open string to open it up and change the value data to Messaging.exe.
4) Reset your Phone or remove the battery to finalize the change.
I want to change it back and cannot remember what it was originally.
What do I need to put where it says Messages on the default string?
What do I need to put where it say Messaging.exe on the open string?
Thanks in advance for your time.

Thank you. I thought the first one was blank but I could have sworn the second had something in it. Guess I'm losing my mind. Thank you again.

how to disable Left "EMail" softkey

hello,
is anything new about the changing the left softkey meaning? i dont want to klik unnecessary thanks for answers,
kuba
You can't exactly delete it off, but...
I also am a happy owner of a Treo 750.
In my experience with this phone, you can't exactly remove the E-mail link off all together, but you can 'add' a function to that left soft key.
All you need is a reg edit program, and....
Go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\11 2
For Default data change the text of the left soft key. For example I changed mine to Messaging.
Change Open Data to the exact location of a program link.
For example if you want to change it to the messaging program you would change it to "\Windows\tmail.exe" Note that the quotes must be included.
When you have everything set with the name and file location....exit and soft-reboot your phone. Now, when you click the left soft key, it should come up with the program link that you wanted with the email link next to it.
It's still there, but at least you can use it for something else as well.
Hope that this is useful to you and good luck...=)

Editing the home screen

Is it possible to change camera&phone from the bottom of the home screen to eg. wifi&phone?

yes it is possible
Yes! I've used Advanced Configuration Tool v3.3.cab.
In advanced configuration you can select different applications to set in the bottom of the home screen.
Could you tell me where will I find it (which option should I choose)
Search here in XDA for "advanced configuration tool V3.3.cab" (thanks shape!) and install it!
Then U go in "User Interfaces"->menu->more setting->key mapping and here you can sett every programs you want assign to the sofkeys!
in order to not make another thread; where will I find "phone"? I've changed it by mistake, and now I can't switch it back.
If you use AdvancedConfig then, you can change the softkey by looking up the "phone" shortcut from the drop down list or you can just leave it blank & it will change it automatically to the default setting.
Maybe a little OT... But I read that .NET 3.5 needs to be installed. Can I simply download and install it or do i need to manually do register changes afterwards (read that I had to somewhere)?
Just install NetCF3.5 to your phone (Main Memory or Storage Card) does not matter, mine is running just fine from SD Card. Soft reset & it should run with no issues.
Continuing the OT:
The Netcf 3.5 is not replace automatically but we must change the values on the register.
HKey_Local_Machine -> Software -> Microsoft ->. NETCompactFramework
click on item 2.0.7045.00 and change the value from 1 to 0
click on item 3.5.7283.00 and change the value from 0 to 1
Close ... soft reset and you have the ROM with the NETCF 3.5!
ok, now I know. However it worked for me without having to change registry settings.
or use this progam, works on diamond 2 too..
Does anyone know how you might, in a similar vain, get Notes to appear on the home screen?
@marcelvanblankers:
doesnt work on my td2! after restart it seems like it does, as there actually are the replaced buttons being displayed, but when tf3d launches there are "phone" and "camera" back again.
That's BS.
I just installed NetCF 3.5 via .cab and Advanced Config worked, without any registry changes.
i was talking of the softkeymanager1_1_diamond_beta.ARM_WM5.cab

you must check the checkbox in the program to change the keys when using TF3D....
one is for standard today, the other for TF3D..
greetz
that's exactly what i did. i just tried it again - same thing, no change.
I'm looking for a solution to replace the calendar by the tasks and notes in the home screen.
Does anyone knows how to do it?
Tks

change the keys in program, save settings then exit.
in TF3D switch a tab and switch back to homescreen.
now it will be changed, it works on my diamond2. in TF3d and in original today.
do you have .net 3.5 installed? i know i have.. don't know if it matters..

default homerskpath to programs tab

I want to change the TEXT for my right soft key, but I still want it to open the programs tab. So I changed homersktext, and left homerskpath blank, but then my renamed softkey does not do anything when I tap it. I need the actual default path to the programs tab. All I can find is leave it blank to reset to default, but that does not work unless I leave both the path and the text blank.

Can´t change registry values

Hi,
I wanted to change some values e.g.
Turn off startup aninmation and sound: HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\HTC\HTCAnimation\ -> rename both “StartupGif” and “StartupWav” to other names
Click to collapse
Tried this with "CeRegEditor" http://ceregeditor.mdsoft.pl/index.php?lang=en, but it says always "Write error", as if the registry is protected somehow.
Is there a trick to change the values? Where is my mistake?
Christian
Try a different editor like PHM Reg Editor.
With this prog it works. thx
just a side note. Keep in mind that sometimes some registry edits don't stick if you just do a soft reset via the soft-reset hole on the bottom of the device. Its best to Hold the power button and completely power down the device and then turn it back on.

[Q] Registry values for Accent colors

Just wondering if it is possible to enter a HEX value for the keys located at:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Themes\0\Accents]
The values are strange, like 4283063863 for the "0" accent (which is Green). I dont know how this translates into the 0xFF4A53E7 HEX value that I see listed along with it.
Can someone explain this? I just want to be able to enter a specific value here. What do those numbers mean? I don't want to just enter a HEX value here and have it screw everything up.
OR, are there any XAP's that will let me enter a HEX value in for Accents?
I have a Samsung Focus.
Ok, I've found a XAP that lets me enter a HEX value (CustomTheme), but it doesn't work. I choose the Accent I want to replace, then enter the HEX value, press Install, it goes YEAH!......but doesn't do anything.
What I do is, on my PC, Start Menu, Run, Type in Regedit, hit ok. Navigate to any folder of your choice. In right plane, right click, New, DWORD (32-bit), Enter the hex value & hit ok. Decimaal value shows in (). Delete the new value when done.
Thank you, do I enter it as (for black as an example) 000000 or FF000000 or #000000 or #FF000000 when creating the DWORD?
EDIT: Figured it out. Thanks for your help.
Also, there's the trusty old Windows calculator. Switch to hex mode, enter desired value and switch back to decimal.
sorry to bring this up again. Do I enter the Hex value (eg FFFF0097) in registry editor or do I enter the corresponding Dec number (4294901911)? I would like to change the Accent Mango which is way too bright on my phone.

never mind, just figured out that I have to enter the Dec values in Theme\0\ and Theme\1\.
now I got the right Mango color.
