Sorry, I gotta ask this again. - General Questions and Answers

I REALLY hate the placement of the SIP changer when the soft keyboard is up. There are so many times when I am typing that I accidently hit that tiny little *&^%$% triangle, and it slows whatever I'm doing down until the damn chooser opens.
I'm looking for a way to either eliminate it, and possibly put the chooser it's self under the settings menu.
Start > Settings > System > SIP changer.
Or is there a way to just hide the bottom bar all together while typing? I know this is possible, because the bottom bar is hidden while using Pocket CM.
Anybody... PLEASE help. I have looked at several apps (can't remember what they were called anymore) but none of them did what I am asking. Does ANYBODY know of a good solution, or ... ya know... is anybody willing to put one together?

I was using FingerKeyboard for a while, but for some reason it was God awful slow for me.

Every time I search it brings me to things I'm not looking for. Which is why I initially posted this in D & H to begin with... I was hoping for a quick solution.

Need some assistance....PLEASE!!!!!

To all the guru's here, how can I get a home icon on the top bar. This way I can tap on it and go to the today screen. I know about wisbar, but don't want to use it for personal reasons. I know I can create a shortcut for a key using quickmenu and a gester using wktask but I just want a simple home icon (like wisbar or WA) in the top bar. Anyone have any ideas please?
Well, i don't know about the home icon, but maybe you'll find vjTodayButton useful:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=243235&highlight=todaybutton
You map it to a hardware button. Now, when you press (and hold) this button, you see the Today screen. When you release it, you are returned to the app you were previously in - IMO much more useful than anything that takes you to the home screen aln leaves you there...
Not quite what I need. If the icon is in the today bar, then it is available in any program I run. This allows me to switch to the today screen with only on tap. When I am finished then I can click on the wktask name/icon header to get back to where I was. I know I'm being a little ridiculous with this, but for speed and ease, this is the best option for me.
I know someone has to have an idea. This forum is to large and great for only one person to try and help out.
Well, maybe try editing your first post and use a bit more descriptive topic subject.
Messages titled with some nondescriptive name like "Need some assistance...", "help needed", "can i do this?", etc... often get ignored... It's really hard to check every single such message to often find out that they concern something you have no idea about.
But something like "How to put a shortcut in the top menubar" might just catch the eye of someone who actually knows the answer...
Just as the point 2 of the rules says:

While you're at it, take your time to read trough them - they're not here because the admin was bored and decided to write something - their goal is to make forum browsing a bit easier - really.

fitting more items on start menue

hi, i remember that recently i read somewhere how to fit more items on a start menue
does anyone know how?
i have searched much cannot seem to find it.
i did it before and it was realllly simple and cannot seem to find it again.
I'm gonna be honest I've looked too and I can't figure out how to disable the enlarged start menu. I know we're both gonna feel kinda silly when it's an easy fix but if that's what you're talking about count me in I need to know too! I use RRE's 4.5 SE and his screenshot shows the smaller start menu and for the life of me man I can't find out how to disable the bigger one! =x
disabling the large start menu is under touch flo options in settings.
Haha thank you so much I knew it was somewhere effin simple!! You just made my day =D
cmon someone must know how to fit more items in the start menu
anyone? know
Start > Settings > System > TouchFlo > (uncheck) Enable large Start Menu
Or you can use a standalone Start Menu program like QuickMenu which offers a lot of great features (long-tap start menu, in-line submenus, custom layout, etc). Have a look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340358
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=471861 <-- see this thread for how one user customized his menu.
this program is incredible, i cant believe i never used it before
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=471861
the second one is the good one, first one. no.
I have the best start menu ever n ow, and lag is so far away i forgot it even exists on phones.

how to dismiss m$'s honeycomb menu?

The stupidest menu I have ever seen.
How can I be back to normal or just remove the top "start" to make room
to display other information. thus I won't trigger this so-called
innovative menu.
There is the discussion on this:
http://www.istartedsomething.com/20090302/windows-mobile-65-honeycomb-menu-simple-ingenuity/
My eyes are more confortable to things that are aligned.
This honeycomb menu is introduced because of the small mobile touch screen. Just couldn't udnerstand that someone thought that is a solution which perfectly fit everyone.
In real world, a solution will introduce another issue looking for solution.
To me the dis-alignment is a bigger issue.
Please help.
Start menu
There's a few options when it comes to changing the wm6.5 start menu. Theres Quick menu 2.8 found here, and theres a cab to modify the honeycomb to a list here.
Thank you. The first one is a bit overloaded.
The list seems to be a good choice. Then I just miss the list of recent program.

Porting Bottom Start button from WM6.5 to WM 6.1

Hello, guys!
You all are professionals and know almost everything about different versions of WM. I have one very important question: is there at least minimal possibility to port somehow this WM 6.5.5 feature - bottom start button to the old WM 6.1 firmwares?
Thank you very much in advance and sorry if this question is a foolish one
It's sort-of possible but would take a little work. Why not just use a 6.5 rom instead?
I think the greater challenge would be resizing the top bar (smaller) and the bottom bar (larger).
Thanks for the answer!

I even can't imagine how it could be implemented... Don't you know if there already was some work for achieving it?

Because it seems more slow to me. Official WM6.1 is very fast and simple as I see, faster than 6.5. I've tried a lot of 6.5 builds. But what I really miss in WM6.1 - is this bottom start button. If it be there - it would be the best firmware for all people like me, who like simplicity and usability instead of these huge slow animations and pictures.

Yeah, it's useful too. Would be nice if somebody experienced considered this interesting and made some investigation...
it's easy to erase the Start menu link from the top bar. you can just overwrite the WindowProc and replace/enhance the WM_PAINT method and here you go.
It's no problem to launch the start menu. But changing the bottom bar is a *****! You could just overwrite the paint method as well. But this is not the full truth. The problem here is that every window got it's own bottom bar. So first you'd have to go through list of all windows/processes, retrieve it's menu bar and from there finally replace the window proc. Then you need to watch out and terminate your window proc if the application closes. And of course you also need to know if a new program is starting up. A nice-to-have feature of this solution would be that you can explicitely tell what happens when you hit the X button (hide or close) and don't need another hack for it.
Thanks a lot for your explanation, RAMMANN. It's very clear.
I can't do it by myself due to lack of experience. Well, the thing left is to wait if somebody experienced wants the same
Well it's a project that probably involves A LOT OF soft resets during development. I was originally planning to make the WM 6.5.x bottom bar look like PHOTON (the WM 7 that got abandoned) but when I figured out it's not THAT easy I postponed the idea for the time being, and will rather start with a smaller project (enhancing bottom bar of WM 6.5 start menu). But I reckon this might still be a very interesting project! hmmmm

Haha - that's exactly what I'd been doing years ago. I abandoned it as well, probably for the same reasons.
I think a decent compromise would be to set the Start menu in your left bottom bar on the Today screen (pretty easy to do, just registry change) and use a button assignment for other programs. If you install one of the start menu replacements (Green software) you can overwrite the start icon with something blank.
RAMMANN is right - a lot of work to repaint all those application windows!
littld, thanks for your answer too.

Well I didn't give up yet. I didn't even start dev for it. I just coded few lines to print something like "Hey your bottom bar is hacked!" in the Manila and start menu bottom bars. This is a very interesting project and has potential to allow a lot of things like Photon style or even an Android style bottom bar and I mean not only a standalone app like Androkkid but a full system replacement. I'm still looking around for an efficient way to realize this project and first things first so I'll be doing a start menu enhancement to warm up

I don't have the links but you can search. You want an app called VJKeypress - one of the keypresses will launch the start menu for you. Make a shortcut (.lnk file) for it. Search for how to change the left softkey text and program (somewhere in registry) to the new VJ link.
Thanks for your answers, guys.
RAMMANN, when you have some progress on this project, please, update this thread. I think people would appreciate it.
Thanks again!

Change hex layout back to square?

Hi!
How can I change the hexagonal icons layout in the Start and Settings menu ("Honeycomb") back to the square layout? The hexagonal makes me feel dizzy.
Thanks
It's nearly impossible to do that, since the code for the hexagon layout is hidden deeply.
There are a lot of .cabs for that kicking around. What kind of phone.

Phone - Xperia X2.
It is enough to just point me to the right registry value, if there is any.

Yes, the Start Menu and Setting menu. Sorry for not being clear
OK, no problem. Well I'm surprised that Denko is saying that there are a lot of cabs for that, because as far as I know, it is not possible.
Will await his reply then.
OK, I'v found something. A small configurable application called XTask, download link here.
Btw, if you don't know where to start, just click on the taskbar and drag the line down. The XTask Settings allow you to configure its internal menu and also replace the Start Menu entirely with its own diagonal icon layout.
Alternatively in its settings set it so its file manager starts when clicking the Start Menu icon and browse to Windows\Start Menu\Programs directory. It is normally alphabetically sorted and you can arrange shortcuts to various subfolders. It can be even more easily done with Total Commander or from PC.
And for phone settings click on Control. It arranges icons by same strange order, probably like the original Start Menu, but maybe I'll find how to change that.
