Help with G1. Gets stuck on boot screen. - General Questions and Answers

I could really use some help.
I don't know too much but I followed tutorials and downgraded my phone to RC29, then got Cyanogens mod and his recovery as well. Then Today I got the CM Updater and tried out some themes. I got the EnochX theme but after trying it out I didn't like it much and wanted to change it but as I tried changing it, I couldn't change it to any other theme because none would work.
Frustrated...I tried wiping the phone thinking that would help me and after that when I restarted after the wipe, I get the G1 screen, then the EnochX boot screen and then it gets frozen in this weird dimmed screen that has very low backlight and I can't do anything.
I CAN go into recovery but I don't know what to do.
Could someone please help me? I really need to use my phone tomorrow and I don't have any spares at home =[ :sigh:

Anyone? =[

If you can go to the recovery, reflash the exact same CM version you want to use. it should restore it back.
IF it works, you should see the CM logo instead of enochx at the bootscreen.

Have a deep read here:

Good luck,

I don't think I have the zip file on the sd anymore so when I go to Apply any zip from sd, it doesn't show me anything.
Do I try to apply sdcard:update.zip? Maybe I do have something there but I don't know if this is a smart idea.

do you have the file on your PC? you can push using adb it to /sdcard and it should show.
dont aplle update.zip if you dont know the content of the update.
if you cannot push the file using ADB, try copying using a card reader

Okai so I popped the card into the memory card reader. I totally forgot about that option, thank you!
Now what am I flashing? the CM rom?

No problem .
Yeah, flash the ROM and it should be working fine. too bad you already wiped.
side note : always do a nandroid backup before you apply themes. so you can revert back if you dont like the theme.

I learned my lesson. =/ Thanks I'll backup for sure.
Okai gonna flash now. God I hope this works

No problem. good luck.

Dude I love you. Thank you so much!!
Is there anything I can do for you? Like give you feedback or something like that. I know some forums have it I'm not too sure if this one does.

Awesome. I dont think there is a feedback system here. No need for it too.
Glad I could help. Have fun experimenting after this. Always nandroid

Don't think it's bricked...But?

Hey guys, this is going to be my first post up here, usually just read up and find what I need no problem but today my first problem arose with my G1. I'll wrap it up quickly:
-Just got a new G1 through an insurance claim.
-Rooted no problem running SuperD v1.9.2
-Curiosity got the best of me and I attempted to try out CaNNoN Complete Eclair
-Didn't work correctly so I restored back to my most recent backup of SuperD v1.9.2
Once I restored, I found that all I had were the apps the SuperD includes built-in to his rom. Not one downloaded app was found on my phone. When I check in the market it still says all of them are installed, wont let me open them at all though. So of course I try to fix it myself and now my SD card just says Lost.Dir on it. Also now it goes through the T-Mobile G1 screen, begins the Super D boot image, and then goes black. I still have access to recovery, what happens now?
Mini update: Partitioned my SD again and now I get past the boot image, still no apps and I can't even reinstall them! Any help would be appreciated.

both of you wipe data, dalvik, and sd: ext partition. repair ext partitions and reflash. you're not bricked if you can get past the t-mobile g1 screen or can get into recovery or bootloader.
Thank you r3s-rt, for giving me hope but honestly, i didn't understood what I need to do.
Thank you
I'm unrooted now and i can't pass the android logo, I can't get access to the operating system. How can I do the partitions, repair and reflash?
you can try to start over and get it to 1.6 again by following this sites guide
upgrade.android.32teeth.org
already done that, but with 2 updates. No success

Buddy you need to first get a plain ( original ) 1.6 Rom as an update.zip on your sdcard boot into recovery , do a wipe THEN apply the update THEN reboot and wait , it will take a while to boot. DO NOT WIPE AFTER THE UPDATE is applied , you must let it *first boot* so it can rewrite the missing files..
where can I get that file? i've tried some but says no signature
I've already done that, nothing happens, the problem is still the same, I will try to flash HardSPL and see what happens
i was reading the topic of SPL and my phone is now unrooted, i can't do anything, i don't know what to do with my phone!
If you are un_rooted then you need to find a original un_rooted Rom , that was not signed with the test keys , ,if you are rooted you need to find a rooted Rom signed with the test keys , if you try to modify any of these roms before flashing them YOU NEED TO RE_SIGN THEM with the right keys , or you will get that no signature error ..
do you know where can I get that? Sorry about all the questions. Thank you
Everything that you need is in the link at the bottom of dan0zone's post right above you (#15). That is a walkthrough specifically geared toward G1's. The original image file for 1.5 is one of the first links he includes. He's even got the links for RC29 (US) as well as RC7 (UK)!
Remember! First boot takes FOREVER!!!! Let it sit for at least 5-10 minutes before doing anything.
Good luck!
I've already done that but nothing happens...what happens if I try to flash UK rom in USA phone? I don't know what should I try more.
is there any cupcake update or any way to don't need to slide the keyboard when ask for sign in or create a new google account? I can now access to the Operating system in Safe mode when I got almost bateryless but when i need to slide the keyboard to sign in my google account, the phone shutdown again. Any sugestion? I'm almost there.
Any help for me?

sorry, man. i have a tendency to just disappear and forget where i posted. are you using cyanogens or amon_ras recovery? i suggest amon_ra's. select the "wipe" option. then choose the first three options that appear. then flash super d 1.9.2.
or just follow the rooting process all over again. if you can't get into recovery.
(recovery is accessed by holding the home key while powering the phone on.) if you need anything else, please pm me. i'll always respond to a pm, but very rarely to a post. sorry.

[Q] NS 4G Please Help!!!

Ok, so this is my first post. Been lurking for a while and doing a lot of learning. First rooted my NS 4G about a month ago. No problems at all. Well today, I was gonna flash CM9 rom but researched it a little first. I read where it said factory wipe and format. So thats what I did but I think I did a little something to much. All I can do is get into bootloader and the recovery. I have nothing on my SD cardexcept root.zip, to flash and I can't put anything on it cause it won't connect to the computer. Someone please tell me how to get this fixed. I'm gonna try the odin route and see if that does anything. I've searched and that seems to be the way to go. Wish me luck on that and someone who is more experienced knows a better solution, please tell. Just please don't tell me I'm screwed.
type fastboot flash recovery twrp-crespo-2.0.0RC0.img in cmd, in the correct folder.
Download that from this page: http://nexusshacks.com/nexus-s-root/how-to-root-nexus-s-or-nexus-s-4g-on-ics-or-gingerbread/
Once you flashed, go to recovery and this will get you into team win recovery project. From there choose mount and mount your sd card. Copy your rom into your sd card and than unmount. Go back and choose install and install your rom. If your rom required google apps, flash that too. Once your done reboot your system and bobs your uncle.
Thanks for the reply. I actually went the odin route, which I was then able to go back to completely stck and start over again. Glad I got it figured and to be honest, I probably jumped the gun in asking for help, but man I got worried when I couldnt do anything with it. Keep up all the great work everyone. About a month and a half ago, I never knew what rooting was. Now I can't wait for new updates on roms and kernels, to come out.

need help. my sdcard is not mounted

so i installed the cm9 alpha, restored stuff via titanium backup (only green marked stuff, and some whites) and i got into a bootloop. so i went into recovery and instead of going into clockwork i used the factory reset thing at the start. (probably the main problem this happened)
so now when i boot up my phone, i cant access my sdcard. what do i do?
ive checked around ADB methods on pushing stuff over, but naturally that didnt work. so im basically stuck here. PLEASE HELP

Try using the All in One tool in the dev section to reflash CWM Recovery, then keep trying to ADB push a stable ROM zip to your SD card. It might take a few tries but it does work. I saved my phone from a similar situation a few weeks back using the ADB push method.

thats what im currently trying to do. for some reason clockworkmod recovery just wont work. whenever i try to go into recovery, the phone just boots instead. and i tried multiple times to push over a rom, but it just wont get past 4mb.
http://i.imgur.com/o0WZm.jpg
this is what happens.
keep in mind i had to scratch the whole using clockwork and used the other recovery instead. that atleast lets me get to recovery. but as you can see, it wont even push over 4mb out of the 137mb of the newest cm9 build.
let me explain what im doing, im following this guide (i dont quite understand what he means with the first part "flash your recovery back to stock" i just assumed he meant to reinstall the recovery, so tell me if i did something wrong here) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25557817#post25850720
and im also looking in the how to push a rom with adb thread aswell. i feel like im doing the right thing here, and dont know what else to do. this is getting frustrating. a phone with no memory isnt all that enjoyable

I used this thread to salvage my phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667929
I followed the instructions to the letter, and got the ROM pushed on the third try. I reflashed and was back in business.

i tried that one aswell, but since my sdcard is not mountable, "- Ensure in Recovery that your phone shows "Unmount /sdcard/" and "Unmount /system/" (If they do not show this automatically, just press each one once respectively as pressing just toggles Mount and Unmount) " wont work for me. and it says that the file has to be in tools instead of permanent-tools, and that also did not work for me. ive tried basically everything up until now. theres still one thing i dwell on, and that is to flash to stock recovery. i dont know where to find that for a Norwegian Telenor handset. i can find the t-mobile one, but thats pretty much it
I had the same problem what I did was, I went to fastboot locked my hboot, "fastboot oem lock" and flashed original RUU in fastboot. RUU you cam find in development section. But first you have to lock your hboot.

i have to admit i have no idea what you mean here. im not pro at this, so i honestly didnt understand much of that. RUU is also something i dont "quite" understand what it. i think it is the OS itself or something.
i have no idea what i did, but i think i just solved my problem without even knowing why:s i just did the same **** over and over again. and i didnt push over anything. i just decided to "screw this, turn that phone on" went to storage and there the sd card was for some unexplainable reason. now i dont have any of my stuff though, that kinda sux

Looks like you found out for yourself; I was going to say that you may have to reboot your recovery a few times before the SD card shows up. I think I had to reboot CMW four or five times before it showed. After that, I was golden. Well, after pushing the ROM zip twice, that is. Make sure you always have a back up or ROM zip on the SD card from now on. It sucks that you may have to resort to a blank slate, but it's better than being stuck with a $500 paperweight!

i actually had a backup, and 2 roms on my sdcard, but that obviously didnt help from now on i will keep a backup on my computer aswell as on the sdcard. if i could ever get my stock backup back that would help. looks like im not gonna have a stock backup anymore. anyone redirect me to some place i can find that just in case i ever need to revert back to stock? Norwegian Telenor based phone if that is info you needed to redirect me. thanks for all the replies guys

[Q] lg g2x install JB.. now frozen on boot

hey everyone!

basicaly, I feel screwed right now does anybody can help me on this?
it is probably something super stupid and simple but I can'T find any solution so I decided to join this forum for a bit of support..

Did you install the adampk rom?

no I haven't...
so far , what I did is
root the pone with the one clicker (wich was a success)
did the recovery with the clockworkmod recovery thing,
restarted and exectued this website's tutorial to jellybean (start with WWW stuff.androidauthority.com/g2x-p999-t-mobile-cyanogenmod-10-cm10-unofficial-115536)
and then, look like it failed..
this morning, I managed to get back to the recovery boot screen and found that if I press the house icon it show up a menu.. but this menu giving me access to reboot, wipe cache, data or install update.zip (which was supposed to fix my problem) but this menu is blued out and unaccessible..
dunno if it helped..
right now, I am trying to get acces to my phone doing the no battery boot thing but my pc doesnt seem to recognize my phone + I am at work hehe so I am pretty much limited in acces due tu the it protection and firewall stuff
I am gonna try to redo that stuff tonight at home but meanwhile, if any of what I described may give you a clue on how to help me, I really appreciate the effort!
thanks again for the support guys, I know it can be a pain sometimes to help people screwing some beginner stuff like I probably do right now

I say you needed to use the g2x android development forums on this site to find a suitable jb rom, not this other site. The one click method isn't very stable, so nvflash is most definitely what you need to try to get working. There are very thorough tutorials on how to get that to work. Do you know which clockwork recovery version you have installed? Should be 5.0.2.0. Once you get home, I suggest you read read read. Do as much research you can to make sure you can follow nvflash instructions to the letter. I know I personally spent about a week researching to make sure I had a solid understanding of the procedure.
I recommend getting nvflash going to get clockwork properly installed, then download a rom from xda, nowhere else. I would even say use a gb rom before trying a jb ...the jb roms are hackfest versions, so they have (from my experience) much poorer battery life, and lack hardware acceleration. Netflix and many 3d games won't work. You can use adampk or mazout's roms but they don't have working radio, i.e. no phone/SMS functionality.

Boot into recovery, there should be an option to format or wipe system. Do that then flash the ROM. It won't boot if you flash it over stock.
Also, use the paranoid android rom found in the development section, same cyanogenmod base but works better.

[Q] Nexus 5 Stuck in Recovery and can't mount on Mac

HI, I love learning about my phone and wanted to gain root access and have clearly made a HUGE meal of it. I desperately would love some one to explain if I can save be beloved Nexus 5.
When turned on it loads to the 4 colours and just wont go past that stage. I can access recovery mode but it wont mount on my Mac so i can access the SD card.
I'd just be happy to reset my phone now to factory can someone please help me do that!!!!
Thank you VERY much to anyone that could explain to me how....
Recovery doesn't mount storage. Google "adb on mac" then learn to configure adb.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
It is hard to know the best way to fix your issue, because it isn't really clear what you have done and when the boot looping started. I think that what you need to do is to reflash the factory firmware and that will require you to set up adb and fastboot correctly (as mentioned in the post above). This tutorial and this begginner's guide are probably a good places to start. If you don't understand something, search that thread and look in the "stickies" in Nexus 5 General...if you are still confused go a head and ask in the most appropriate guide thread or in the Nexus 5 Q&A thread.
i highly recommend WUG's nexus root toolkit.
this have saved my ass many times.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...olkit-wugs-nexus-root-toolkit-v1-8-0-t2517778
but you must sort out your ADB problems first.
many ppl have run this on Parallels or WINE, or borrow a PC from somewhere to restore to stock.
Never use toolkits! They tend to do more damage than good.
@thegrapher : Go to stock recovery and do a factory reset and see whether the phone boots or not.. If it doesn't, do what rootSU suggested and setup adb/fastboot on mac and flash the stock factory images!
Thanks heaps guys....really appreciated all the replies. .
Firstly, thanks for the advice i will avoid toolkits in the future.
However...i did manage to sort it out i think. All seems ok so i hope so. Yeah it was loading the google screen showing the padlock on the bottom but the four colours just bounced on and on and nothing... so i couldnt mount it. I could go to recovery (a teamwin logo appeared so i guess that was installed). but in all the options it had nothing on the sd card or didnt appear to after going into every option and clicking mount or sideload. tried to reset it and finally i formatted decrypted data under that option and boom all good. even got it unlocked and working so i guess i found my way eventually.
Would like to know what i did so i can learn but i feel i went about it in such a way i didnt really learn anything. just happy its sorted i guess. and sort proud it is unlocked now i can move that annoying volume bar to the top where it should be!!! lol
hope some of that made sense or can explain what i did. cheers
