"The source filter for this file could not be loaded" in WMP with MP4 files - General Questions and Answers

When opening MP4 files i get the quoted error message.
I am pretty sure the files are good (Projection's encoder, correct res) but for some reason WMP or Album will not play the files.
I am using a 6.5 ROM (NATF) on a Touch Pro.
I did install divx player and an older version of tcpmp before I did some research and found out these days everyone was using MP4 in WMP/Album to get better playback. I tried uninstalling divx and tcpmp, but no joy.
Have I done something myself to break it? Is there any hope except a hard reset? Is it maybe a 6.5 thing?

how to play wmv files?

Media player doesn't seem to read wmv files (at least the video part of the file). Any suggestion for a good replacement software?
try beta player
Media Player definitely plays wmv files, are you sure your wmv isn't corrupt?
I've noticed that Windows Media Player 9 on the Pocket PC is not capable of playing .WMA and .WMV of all bitrates, I'm not exactly sure which bitrates its not capable of, but try re-encoding your file to a different bitrate and try it again n the device.
To no1: the file is not corrupt, media player on XP reads it without problem.
To ZeroXtreme I'll try it. Thanks everyone

Playing (mpeg-4) files on PC

Sorry if this is not strictly on topic, but I am having problems playing video files on my PC which were recorded on my TC. Has the format been changed/tweaked since the Trinity (my last device)? I can't get the files to play using latest versions of WMP, RealPalyer, Quicktime or DivX player (all with -I think- appropriate Codecs; Sherlock utility lists bucket loads of Codecs residing on my PC).
The videos play OK on WMP mobile on the TC and the files were copied direct to the PC using a card reader in order to keep ActiveSync out of the equation.
Thanks
For me, the only way too see videos on my PC is to use Media Player Classic.
I've tried with VLC: video plays but...without sound.

MP4 is now a fairly common video format on the net, and is now becomming a standard format for mobile video recording, takeing over the place of 3gp. If you have troubles whith it, you have several options.
1. You can download the VLC Player, a free, open-source player that plays all videofiles whithout the usage of installed codecs (plays *.flv files as well).
2. If you do some video coding too, then you can install a Codec pack... I recommend K-Lite for that, but ofcourse there are several choices.
3. WMP11 supports it...
All solutions are free... but next time try this:
1. Google
2. In the search field: "How to play MP4 files"

I recomend checking your settings, because VLC works for me. Did you try the latest version? Does this no sound occur whith other file types aswell?
Installed VLC, but like Jules got no sound?
I do however get sound from MP4 files (and other video formats) from sources other than the TC.
So what comes out of the TC does not seem to be normal? (Hence me posting here.... yes I googled (lots) before)
The source of the problem is, that VLC does not recognize the audio stream of the mp4 files created by the TC. The coding of the Audio stream is GSM AMR-NB... so the only option is to get the AMR codec.
The reason VLC plays it for me is because K-Lite is installed (and it contains the audio codec for that).
@gnick666
I use the last Vlc version and KLite Standard version.
And no sound, just with Cruise's MP4. No problem with others MP4.
But Media Player Classic plays these videos with sound.

Klite Mega Codec Pack is the magic solution. Playing TC recorded video fine in WMP11 and BSPlayer Pro

3gp playback problem

My Samsung i760 use to natively play 3gp files under WM6 and WMP. However, once I moved to WM6.1(official from Samsung) the files don't work in WMP any more. TCPMP plays the files, but only video not audio citing audio codec qualcomm qcelp not supported by the player. So I decided to install these plugins for wmp http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366471 and it not work. Un-installing didn't fix it either. Is there any way to get it working like installed the WMP 6 codec and dll or something?
btw my phone takes video in 3gp so I need it for playback. thank you.
someone please?
bump please?

Core Player

On my HD I could play AVI files using Core Player, on the HD2 the same files play the audio but the viseo is:
1. In small screen very "liney" and doubled, 2 images side by side.
2. In full screen the screen is blank.
Any ideas?
maybe u have to set "directdraw" instead "qtv" in video settings
Actually, I do not understand why people want to keep on using Core Player.
The best movie player is already embedded in the HD2 itself in Photos/Videos album, because it has hardware acceleration.
CorePlayer is now a very old-fashioned software (2007) and the latest versions (1.35 and 1.36 are quite buggy).
Play your mp4 with the HTC video player and you will really see the difference.

yes true but to play divx or xvid files, coreplayer is still the best one,you dont need to convert it in mp4 and 1.36 is working just fine on my leo without bugs
where is the HTC video player located on the phone & will it play AVI files?

menu/tools/preferences
select page
/video then change qtv to raw framebuffer
i got coreplayer to work perfect only with these settings
in preferences-->select page--->video---> than select GDI and smooth zoom
any different setup would show pixelated image(video)
While we're talking about CorePlayer, can it show subs? If so how?
Have searched through every settings now but i can't find any settings for subs.
If not, is there a player that plays DivX Xvid's with subs in srt or sub format?
CorePlayer plays almoast everything i can think of, and are working fine on HD2 here to.. Is CorePlayer dead now or what?
i don't think coreplayer can play subs , but tcpmp can...however i didn't try it on my hd2 and don't know if it works
tcpmp works fine set to either gdi or rawframebuffer
not tried subs but they should work too
biggest benefit of tcpmp over coreplayer is the price

Tcpmp works, you can use srt (and I think smi) subtitles. You have to use GDI as video driver to see them.
Colors
Do you like the colors of coreplayer (or tcpmp) out of the box?
I had to change them to custom, raise the contrast a bit and lower the brightness.
I find HTC album images a bit too dark instead (but I can't change)

ummm......ain't wma files audio only files?
For those who might be desirous to buy CorePlayer 1.36 I strongly recommand to be patient.
Indeed CorePlayer 1.36 is a dying software. CoreCodec is currently finalizing a version 2.0.
It would be useless to waste €30 on v1.36 now and probably have to pay later for v2.0.

on2 vp6???

I'm sort of new here and don't know where to post this question. I have FLV files saved and am trying to play them back. I try in TCPMP and it tells me the video codec isn't supported. I tried using Coreplayer and that at least tells me that
"on2 VP6 video codec" is not supported.
Anyone know if there is a fix for this in TCPMP???
