I have a HTC Touch ELFIN that I bought in India last year. It came with WM6.1 by default. I started having this weird battery problems last month.
The problems are
1. Sudden discharge. It will go from 90% to 30% for no apparent reason.
2. Some times even when charging in the dock, the battery goes to Zero and the warning message comes about the need for charging the battery and it shuts down.
3. When it does that, no amount of charging will get the phone to turn on.
Steps taken to fix the issue.
1. Open up the cover, remove the battery and put it back. Upon turning on, the batter will be at 100%
2. Ordered another battery from ebay and use it. It looks ok.
3. Upgraded from WM6.1 to Onyx 6.5 and still had the same problem (much faster battery drain)
4. Flashed to PDAViet WM6.5 , looks stable enough but noticed the same problem as the battery fell from 100% to 63%...so same problem.
To flash custom ROM I used
1. ELFIN_HSPL_3.10
2. I remember trying to break the CID earlier but it failed and I don't recall what I used...so just used WM6.
3. I used Onyx first . But the battery issue became bad.
4. Then I tried PDAViet. Much better but still there is the battery issue.

I'm thinking about flashing my Touch for a week now, but i'm kinda scared. So I had to ask these probably silly questions for most of you, but.. if I do something wrong, how much can that damage my phone and is there any way back from there? I already did a backup of my existing rom so can i use that backup in case i screw things up? what are Cert_SPCS.cab and EnableRapi.cab and do they have to be run before flashing? (they were mentioned in the readme.txt file that was included with the tools i downloaded to backup my rom from this page http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Elf_HowtoDumpRom ) How can i know if i should CID unlock my phone or not? Hi i currently using HTC Trinity p3600i(black) as my pda. I frequently search for useful software but that habit is causing me more problem because i'm a newbies and stil learning in this forum & PDA world.
My PDA won't connect when my 3G simcard voice & data provider(Maxis).Before it happen, I downloaded advanced configuration tools & Resco Explorer Spb Suite(comes in pack with encryptor) and while syncronizing with active sync 4.5 it hanged. What happen is, I had to hard reset my device cos it has gone haywired & hanged ( using ctrl+alt+del 3button push ) last week. After that, I can't connect to any data connection whatsoever & it keep saying "the remote party has ended this connection". But however unlikely, when i use another ISP simcard (Celcom ) it worked just fine. Please help & advise me what to do. I'm totally blurred.

Device is just looping on start up with the sim in, when I remove the device works OK, I have upgraded ROM, SPL etc but still get the same problem - can anyone tell me if it;s a software or hardware problem please?
