[mods plz delete] WM 6.1 english for htc s710 (india) ?

hi
can anyone tell me where to get the 6.1 update for htc s710 in india? i registered with htc india but no updates show-up.
to tell the truth ... i'm not comfortable installing a 'cooked' rom posted by dr. gonzo rom coz its first time got a windows device so if i screw the flashing theres no way i can get the original software back

Dude, don't worry the Read me that comes with the Dr.Gonzo's ROM is self explanatory... And Dear, when i tried it for first time, I screwed my VOX too...But then a little patience and VOX wiki..I am up there with my VOX on WM 6.1..ANd now you can see my Signature, i love trying beta ROMsss.. Just in case anything happen to ur phone, give me a buzz at [email protected] may be i can be of some instant help to u... And i bet my life...Senior members on this forum are always ready to help ppl like us...So go ahead and try it..

there is no official WM6.1 ROM update for S710 ANYWHERE.
you can try the WM6.1 ROM by Dr.Gonzo, it is very good. It does have some minor glitches but a new user like you won't notice it for a while.
and yes this forum will help you if anything goes wrong, but before you do anything please read the wiki completely and when flashing follow ALL instruction(every single line) carefully. ALL!
You would like the WM6.1 rom.
and one more thing....
download the official 1.34 ROM also(its on the FTP),
then in case you screw it up while flashing, you will have the original ROM to fall back on.

Hi all, I recently bought HTC s710 and I love there are some queries see if anyone can guide me :
1. If I flash my device with WM 6.1 can i get the original OS by hard reset?
2. If I flash the device will i lose my warranty which is one year ?
3. If i spoil my device is there a way to restore original OS so that repair people do not come to know that I have flashed my device.

1). If you flash WM6.1 or ANY ROM, you can not restore to the original ROM by hard reset. You will need to re-flash it.
2). Technically, yes you will lose warranty, however...
3). Patched USPL can be used so you can always restore the original factory/OEM ROM and still use your warranty should you have any hardware issues.
In short, I would not hesitate to flash WM6.1 due to those questions you have. The first thing I did when I got my S710 was flash a patched SPL and unofficial ROM.

Yes, it is to all people that are new, it's a fact, they ask before they read, I am getting sick of it. The same questions every day!

XDA should force a reply to each sticky'd Wiki before posting rights are granted, until then only read should be applied to the account. Perhaps I will bring it up with a mod.

It's possible, the C4 forums have it in place on vBulliten 3.7.1, but I am sure they require it more than XDA does.
It would be better to require a certain amount of posts before you can start a new thread. Meh. I don't think it's that much of an issue anyways. I am sure if it was, something would be in place already.

Update error
I downloaded Dr.Gonzo's Monalise v1.0 and finished all the steps in the how-to and Readme. During the final Flash.exe, it is saying ERROR [270] : UPDATE ERROR. The image file is corrupted. Please check your Update Utility.

I did that too. Same error Update Error 270. Image file corrupted. Only the batch file executed correctly after the application unlocking.

[question] Windows Mobile 6.1 Update

hello guys
i currently have WM 6.0
and if i want to burn a rom into my phone that is WM 6.1
would i need to update my WM first?
if i do can someone send me the link where i can update it?
because i cant seem to find it.

Before everybody tackles you, let me answe this lol
If you have an official WM6.0, you'll need hardspl to install ANY custom ROM. Just install that and then choose the ROM of your likings (many chefs and ROMs out there).

You are making a confusion: the ROM itself (as in Read Only Memory) is the Windows Operating System (among others).
If you have WM6.0, that means you are running a WM6.0 ROM.
If you want WM6.1 you will need to upgrade to WM6.1 ROM.
This is where you are making the confusion: to upgrade to WM6.1 = to "burn" (aka flash) a WM6.1 ROM.
Hope this clears the fog!

hmm.. i think i understand wht ur saying. if i flash a WM 6.1 rom into my phone i would have WM 6.1. and if i have a WM. 6.1 rom and i want a 6.0 rom i simply need to just flash a 6.0 rom onto my phone. correct?
so there is no need for the extra step, of me having to update before i flash a 6.1 rom on to my phone.

essentially, flashing a rom is "Updating" in the sense i think you had in your first post in this thread. There is no need to update anything on your stock ROM because you are entirely replacing it.
It's similar to reformatting a XP computer that's Vista capable and putting Vista on it. (Not that I would recommend that anyone do that to their poor PC.)
However, before you flash, make SURE you have followed all the steps and guides to CID (Security) Unlock your phone and have HardSPL installed properly, otherwise your Kaiser will be a $450 paperweight. SIM (Subsidy) Unlocking is NOT the same as CID unlocking, so make sure you've done it right before trying it out.

A piece of advice when posting and especially as you are wanting to flash your device...... You need to read a whole heap first and understand what you are doing..... if you do not you will end up bricking ur device and end up a shiny paperweight....
Suggest you read the wiki page and as pilot says the relevant section on xda, and please dont flash if u dont understand the process because we will only see you in here asking for more help on how to unbrick yes?

ps before my first flash i read for hours and days, making sure i understood what was happening, why it was and what to do if it went wrong. My first flash on my prophet didnt go right, but i knew after reading more why and how to correct it.

THe universal is an old device and hence you wont get official 6.5 rom or even a 6.1 come to that lol. If you read the wiki page above like a said before you will find a link to all official roms

so 6.1 or 6.5 will not come to my device
it means i have to use this 5.0 version only ?

lol HTC wont bring out an official 6.1 or 6.5 rom for that device, its too old and they want people to buy new devices, hence why XDA is great!!!
You only need the official 5.0 if something goes wrong, my mate had the same device and used a m2d rom which was very nice, so flash away!!

Download and keep safe an offical 5.0 rom, dont use it unless flashing to cooked 6.1 goes wrong.
There are many good 6.1 roms in the forum, so go ahead and try some when you understand what you are doing

so i dont want to try it if it is not clear that 6.1 is supported ot not
i will only do if u r 100% sure that it is supported

take a look in the universal section, you'll find many 6.1 roms there my friend

I can recommend you Tomal wm 6.1 8.5 or 8.1 ROM´s
Actually wm6.5 ROM´s are in beta and are not so stable, and if its your first time flashing go for 6.1

Updating my HTC Kaiser from Win 6.1 to 6.5

Sorry all but....
I am simply trying to find out how to flash my HTC TYTN II from Windows Mobile 6.1 to 6.5. The only thing I have sucessfully managed to do so far was to re-flash the orginal ROM the phone shipped with from the HTC web site. Is it a problem with my phone or is the HTC ROM update program user friendly in some way (looks identical!?) that no others here would seem not to be? I have read no end of programs that seem to need to be used or installed on the PC and\or phone but no clear set of end to end instructions when using the images from here!? I have tried 4 or 5 different ones and all lose connectivity as soon as the program starts to try and flash my phone. Fortunately pulling the battery and powering back up restores normal functionality. This leads to my final question please. Do HTC write user friendly ROM update software for their devices that work without anything else needed where no else seems to or am I missing something? If nothing else assuming I need to this manually could someone please point me to where I can finda full set of instructions please?
What other than updates that simply seem no to work on my phone am I missing soemthing. I am even more seriously considering the Nokia N97 now as Symbian updates are simple to apply and work out the box! Not like these nightmares it would seem!

WM 6.5 has been announced but not officially released, so there is no HTC update. I don't know what you have been trying to download.
The only 6.5 roms available are cooked roms derived from leaked betas of WM 6.5 or roms derived from M$ development tools packages. So if you want an HTC/M$ 6.5 rom, you are out of luck, because it does not exist.

I have AT&T Tilt, barely used, Cant get help to upgrade from manufacturer no longer support. Can you please tell me what upgrade is available and instructions on how to install. Thanks very much Lost.

If your on about time bombs then just move the time forward to 2010 and see if it still works?
Not forgetting all WM6.5 are beta's............
Get SASHIMI and make your life easier or just stick with stock ROMs.

6.5 is still in beta form and has not officially been released as of yet. Us chef's here in kaiser are using the beta windows mobile 6.5 and making it work for your kaiser, otherwise you can use the stock 6.1 build from ATT or HTC..
HTC or ATT will not be releasing a 6.5 build for kaiser as it is a older unsupported device.
Please search before opening new threads.
