GPS patch - Touch Pro2 CDMA

Hi. All. My TP2 has not arrived yet, but cruising another forum, I stumbled across this link. I know it's in the asia site, but anyone have any insight as to whether it applies to CDMA phones?
http://www.htc.com/asia/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=250&act=sd&cat=all

Odd. My GPS is working wonders compared to my XV6800 so I don't think I'd need a patch personally.

GPS is fantastic on my Verizon pro2. 3rd party software all day long HUGE difference from my xv6900(vogue). No need for a patch.......

I haven't really tested "lag" when driving, but signal locks have been within a couple of seconds every time I've used it (even after a soft reset - so "cold" start).

Yes odd indeed. I got my TP2 up and running today and it locks on very quickly and in areas where my XV6800 could not. Maybe Verizon actually rolled problems that cropped up from the T-Mobile version into the CDMA version? Who knows.

anyone using third party, what's the accuracy that the radio is getting? like within 5,10,20 meters..

I agree as far as not needing a patch. From my experience with Google maps this morning, I would say anywhere from 5 to 10 meters. I was parked on the corner and google maps showed me that I was slightly into the intersection. I also locked on very quickly. I just had to set google maps manually to com4 and 4800 baud rate then config the gps to give my location always instead of just with 911 and it locked on like a charm. I'm gonna test Garmin & Tomtom this afternoon to see if they have to be set manually as well.
UPDATE: I was also able to successfully run Tomtom & Garmin without any manual configuration. All is well with my TP2. I could not be happier. Definitely an awesome device. The only thing that could make it better is a custom rom. I know it takes time so I will wait patiently.

That patch is actually a Radio ROM, it's for GSM only.

Has anyone got their Verizon TP2 to work with Garmin Mobile XT? I do have it enabled for devices other than 911. I've been playing with this for about 7+ hours now and no matter what I do, I can get XT to find the GPS. Iv'e tried using different COM settings and just about every permutation of the "External GPS" settings under the settings menu. No matter what I do, it won't find my GPS. If you do have it working, please post your exact settings for GPS, both within XT and also in settings for the device.
Thanks much,
J.

Yeah - I've got it working. Just installed GarminXT and it started working right away - no custom settings or anything.
You have Garmin updated to the latest version 5.00.20?

gps
how did you get the gps to work in programs like bing and google maps mine dosent.

Since we're talking about it. What is the best GPS Navigator program out there? Garmin is 99 and TomTom is 89 so they aren't cheap. Any cheaper/free alternatives that are just as good?
edit: my bad, looks like there is no tomtom software for the US and WiMo

Same here. As soon as I put my sd card from my old titan to the tp2 it asked if I wanted to install it, I click yes. It installed, and within 2 minutes I got a lock. Then it only took about 5-10 seconds to get a lock each time after that. Maybe it is the specific version you are using.

I'm using Garmin XT as well but it does have lag. The lag isn't killer but it is annoying.
I'd like to know if there is a fix for this problem. I've looked at the registry hacks and they don't seem to conclusively work.
Does anyone have a verified fix for this problem?

Have been messing around with Waze lately. It's an interesting concept, and I like the idea of everybody contributing traffic information. I'm not nearly as paranoid about annomously submitting my driving info.
On the subject of accuracy, it seems about the same as my TP, but the lock is SOOOOO FAST...

The lag is about 10 seconds. What seems to happen is that the GPS position is updated once every 10 seconds or so... On most systems it's updated at LEAST twice a second. So this is like 20 times slower then it's supposed to be... Even once a second wouldn't be so bad but a ten second update is irritating. It's not app killing really because I can just look at the map and remember the position is slow. But it's not as good as my apache (with external GPS receiver).

I am using the Sprint TP2 and the google maps GPS is erratic in location and sometimes its WAAAAAAAAAY off its quite buggy .. i am sad to say the GPS on the Iphone is the Best in real time tracking ... even on foot

Do you have a big blue circle around your location? if so, you are using cell tower location tracking, not GPS. the GPS should be within about 20 meters. It works just fine for me. It actually works very well.

GPS in CDMA
Hi.. I have a HTC_TouchPro2 ROM ROM 2.01.558.7 Radio 2.21.00WV from movilnet, Venezuela. The GPS works good in GSM mode; but when i tried to make it work in CDMA mode, nothing happens. How can this be? I appreciate any help from you.

Did you run quickgps? Do you have location set to on instead of 911 in cdma mode.

Just tried mine with TT6 and the same ROM as you and have the same problem.
No issues with the L26 WM6.1 ROM and TT6 over here. They work fine together with a fast fix.

lol, when sanderjohan said fast fix, i think he meant it picks up his position quickly, not using some trick or something like that
I'm having the same problem, Tomtom and iGO have no problem initializing the GPS, but it can never determine where I'm at.
I changed Radio Version from 1.64.08.21 to 1.64.06.04 and the GPS issue has been resolved it takes less time to find fast fix. Plus theres no loss in signal on Orange UK, so problem solved
ill give it a shot thanks
Didn't fix anything, still takes forever to lock on.....that's even IF it locks on
It worked for me, even got GPS signal inside.
Which TomTom Version you using?

Gave up on this rom (sleuth 6.1) untill fix comes out? and installed udK 7.0 R1 Vega now tom tom locks within few secs! so must be something with the old rom?
Running Sleuth's 6.1 for a week and a half now with no trouble. Try a soft-reset followed by an IMMEDIATE Quick GPS download before loading Tomtom. Make sure that it actually DOES download. The one issue that I'm having with this rom is that some 3rd party apps don't always trigger a GPRS connection. When it's being cranky, the Quick GPS update just immediately acts like it's finished without ever actually doing anything. I get around this be triggering a connection 1st w/ PIE and then waiting a sec for traffic to flow then launch Quick GPS and watch to make sure it really does do it's download. I was having the EXACT same issue as your guys before working this out.
SLow GPS
To be honest, I believe the built in GPS Reciever is both slow and poor, compared to even one of the cheapest full-blooded GPS devices out there.
Not that I expected much more, but when it takes my TyTN II 2 hours to find my location while driving from Oslo(Norways capitol) towards Sweden in a car, then there's something wrong.
I set the location, put the phone on the dashboard, and waited. After two hours it said: "Take a right". Yay, the right I was taking was the last few meters on my trip.
"You have now reached your destination"
I applauded, turned of TomTom, and has never started the application again.
What a waste
I'm using Schap's v4.40 with the original orange radio and TomTom locks on with 10 seconds.
I noticed that if you live in an area with large buildings around, your gps signal won't be good and it'll take a longer time to pick up a signal. Usually the first time running, your gps will take a while. I also notice that inside a building, you are going to have a harder time picking up gps. If you are in an open field for more than 2 minutes trying to pick up gps, then I think you have a problem. Be sure to consider all these things before saying gps doesn't work with the rom.
Just to note: some radios pick up gps a lot faster than others. You can experiment.

tomtom7 and htc touch pro gps fix

Hi Guys.
Just wondering if anyone has been able to solve the problem of tomtom7 taking like 5-10mins to find a valid gps singal when installed on the htc touch pro using the internal a-gps.
Sorry if this has been covered. I've tried doing searches and there is a lot of discussion but can't seem to find a thread that actually lists a working solution.
Can anyone help?????
so that is a no?
i thought this was a common problem with a lot of people?
any solutions?
gps fix
for me upgrading to 6.5 rom did the trick
Are you referring to the leaked windows mobile 6.5 rom beta??
I use Tomtom 7 and have no problem at all getting a GPS lock. With the original radio it took around 40 seconds, now with radio 1.12.25.19 it locks in around 10-15 seconds.
But I had to uninstall Google Maps for it to work.
I also use TomTom 7 but I dont use aGPS. It use to take time earlier when I had AT&T stock ROM. After I flashed with Energy ROM 2.0 Win Mo 6.1, the satellite locks pretty fast. However it is still not 10-15 seconds.
This might be as I have kept the radio same.
Do you all guys use aGPS?
I have aGPS disabled, because the GPS doesn't work properly if I enable it. Maybe Brazil has poor aGPS support, so I'm glad the GPS itself is pretty good.
Well im using my htc touch pro on the optus network in australia.
Checking device info shows my radio as: 1.02.25.19
Im guessing this is an old version.
I dont really wanna change anything thats going to void my warranty and the whole purpose of getting this device was so i could put tomtom on it and i didn't have to carry a gps receiver with me, i wanted to use the interneal gps.
Is there any software tweaks out there or is it purely down to dodgy internal gps/ dodgy htc rom
juzz18,.. check the HTC homepages.
there's an offical fix for the GPS fix issue that should blow your warranty

I had this radio before, and a few weeks ago I decided do flash a new one (1.12.25.19). I was a little afraid because I had never done that.
Well, now GPS locks 2-3 times faster, finds more satellites, and sometimes locks even indoors, like inside my house.

For me on Energy ROM 2.0, Google Maps gets a fix in under 10 seconds, and Chartcross GPS Test gets a fix just as quickly. From what I can tell, attempting to get a cold fix with TomTom does NOT work, at ALL. However if I start up GPS Test THEN TomTom, it fixes quickly.
Thanks for the reply. Yes I do start Chartcross GPS test first and then TomTom
It take 20-25 seconds sometimes more to get the lock. It is much better than last time when I was on AT&T stock ROM
So I guess there is no use of this patch yet for me

GPS problems thread

I know this has been discussed some, but i can't seem to find a solution. This is a great phone, but the gps really makes me mad.
My OG Droid and inc would get a position lock pretty fast. about 15 seconds. the thunderbolt on the other hand sucks... Never have i even seen before the shrinking (or sometimes not) circle around your position arrow in google maps.
This is a big deal to me because i use the gps as the main navi in my truck, i assume lots of others do too. I also use it for marking fishing spots so pinpoint accuracy is a must.
I know and for those who don't, you can download GPS status and see the fix its getting and also reset or update your GPS. This kind of works for a while, but still doesn't get the most accurate fix (but ok for driving) and is a PITA. Also takes a minute.
I have a feeling this is software/radio related, and hopefully can be fixed. But just a hunch as i know nothing about the matter.
Anyone have any other ideas??
I should add i just got 12/12 in gps status. not too bad. and maybe the circle around the position arrow was MAYBE just added in a new version of maps. but still it takes multiple trys when i hit navigate to find my position.
GPS is awful on both my and my wife's Thunderbolts too. Can't get a lock standing outside even after 5 minutes; completely unusable. And, we shouldn't have to download another (non-official) app just to get GPS to work.
Glad it's not just me. My GPS takes forever to lock (has taken up to 10min before).

my pgs sucks as well. I didn't use it much before rooting and flashing roms, so I can't really compare pre and post ROM flashing. Either way, it sucks, can't lock on my location, it get "waiting on location" then "location unavailbale at this time". However, it seems to work when I on pgs navigation after waiting for a while. Hopefully we can get a fix for this soon.
i didnt try GPS much before root either. Don't think that would make a difference. I was on the stock rom just until yesterday and was having the same problems with it.
BUMP
I'm having the same issues. I love my phone but this is very aggravating. I would like to know if this is just isolated to a few of us( ie our particular phones are defective) or is the a phone wide issue.

GPS issues..
I've been having the same issues with GPS. I posted about this in another thread but i'll post again.
I get three different locations from three different apps using GPS. Google maps is off by a few blocks, but at least it shows me in downtown houston (my actual location). My time widget pulls the time based on location, and currently, its somewhere near a lake in Russia right above mongolia. Foursquare thinks i'm on the coast of Lithuania and gives me locations in that area to check into.
I called VZ tech help and breezed through to the L2 support. The lady put me on hold to grab a thunderbolt phone to help me troubleshoot. When she came back on the line, she said her google maps was showing her location as blocks away from where she really too!!
Long story short - she gave me a call back later that day and said HTC is aware of the problem and is currently working on a fix for the issue , but gave no timeframe for when it would be fixed
My thunderbolt is fine. Just did a maps test and it found me in about 10s. I have two thunderbolts and the other one took about 1 minute to lock. Both tests were done from inside my house.
having the same problem with my gps...im going head to a verizon store today!

Mine gets a lock indoors, away from all windows, under 2 minutes. Not the most accurate, 60ft, 6 satellites. But hey I'm in the frikkin house. Outdoors I get a lock instantly. 12+ satellites.

Dumb question, but where do I find this option?
So it's just not me, mine takes minutes to lock on, after that it's no problem, but that initial lock is a PITA, 3-5 min...
I've also noticed subpar gps performance compared to my incredible from the first day I got the phone.
The Gps status app seems to have helped and the time to get a lock has improved even more with bamf 1.3.2. Even still it doesn't seem to get a lock as quick as I was used to with my incredible. Takes anywhere from 30s to 2min, but on the lower end of that.
Would still like to see this addressed by HTC/vzw. I'm sure there's other people out there having this issue and I know they can do better.

GPS problems on desire s

Hi.
I'm from Russia. Sorry for not perfect english.
I bought my HTC Desire S about 2 weeks ago on clove.co.uk.
It is cool phone but i have problems with GPS.
Applications can't show my place if i uncheck flag "Location->Use wireless networks " in phone Settings.
I tried to use Google maps, open gps tracker, Yandex maps.
Also i tried "GPS TEST". I waited 15-20 minutes. It finds 9-10 satellites, but latitude and longitude equals 0.
I tried "GPS FIX" but it also useless.
Can anyboby help me?
Is it hardware or software problem?
Thanks.
Are you outside (not in building)? From my previous experiences, I can say GPS doesn't work in buildings (or isn't that accurate).

Have the same problem here
Installed "GPS Test" and it shows the strengths of the signals of the satelites.
I haven't had a value over 36 SNR but it finds about 10 satelites very fast. Then it takes 5 min to lock and it is impossible to lock if you are walking.
Is the GPS better on your devices. Would be interesting to hear values from people who don't have problems.
Hi guys...this is most probably cause by the presence of built-in A-GPS feature....due to that feature DS can no longer lock on it's own...or it means a great struggle...Locking onto GPS requires a great computing power... apparently the GPS chip in DS isn't the top product...
Hey, if you're root/S-OFF, did you try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1060963 ?
I had the same issue but it's gone after restart.
Having the same issues here, this is a return the phone type fault, and no gps = key things missing from the phone.
It was hard for me to get a fix accurately but GPS Fix really helped. But definitely go outside to use it.
seems like a-gps has old data, dunno how to refresh it on it's own, but the free app "gps status" will do it if necessary. be sure you have internet access (wifi or cellular), gps is on, and start the app, it should update the a-gps data and the phone should find a fix. otherwise the gps sattelites are transmitting the same data (almanach) but very slow and it takes sometimes 15-20 minutes. the alamanachs contain the latest corrections and without them any gps device will give rubbish as output.
i cant lock gps...any suggestion?
It's always worked pretty well for me.
GPS Fix works wonders.
I have the same problem and I have tested with the HTC Hero as well with the same problem. I have been on the Orange to see if is there problem but with no luck! Trying GPSfix now! I am wondering if this is a Radio problem or a handset problem! I hope it is not a handset problem!!
Using GPS Status is saying I can lock on to 2 satellites in my room but I lose them very fast. I need to test in other places around Newport and Cardiff to see if I can get similar results.

Yes likely as aGPS pulls satellite info from your cell towers. You may still find though, as I do, that even with the best radio, you'll still need to occasionally run GPS fix every few weeks. My old desire never had this. Mine will get a lock in 2 seconds now, but for some reason if I don't use GPS for a couple of weeks, I'll be back with waiting and waiting for a lock.
I may be noticing it more because oranges 3g service in my area for months (t-mobile merger issues it seems) has been so poor that I've turned 3g off to avoid shocking battery drain and hopeless intermittent data services. I rely on wifi. Now I know why I'm not getting a good lock sometimes. I use an off line gps app as I can't rely on orange 3g to let google maps work. With 3g off I'm not pulling down the aGPS data. This GPS fix app (however it does it) solves it.

Anyone with GPS problems????

I've searched the threads for are Verizon variant of the SGSIII. If this has been discussed , mod please remove.
I'm not a noob by any means. My GPS is driving me up a freaking wall. I've tried from on a pure stock ROM, yes out the box and both rooted .img's. Plus all available ROM'S .
Here is where my adventure begins. It takes forever if at all , to get a lock. If I do get a lock it will stick but that is about 1 out of ten times. I've tried to modify the GPS.conf , with known general tweaks and NTP servers to pull from with no luck, also a few general build.prop tweaks. Then I turned to the market and we all no how that goes , thousands of apps claiming to give you the world with a click of a button. Nada , nothing. I've done full restores, formatted system, efs etc ect, a clean start. Still no luck. Now I thought at one point that maby my GPS is fubared, I highly doubt this. I can see all satellites in my region and it connects to about one or two at the most. When I just look at my maps on my location it is close , it will show me about 100 ft away from the road I'm on or the next road over, or show me on the road but riding along side it. If I'm in navigation it just says follow route , searching for GPS. So I no its close.
This is frustrating cause I'm a self employed contractor and I depend on my phone for everything. So if anyone can confirm some of the problems I've been having or any links or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
(EDIT) After some reaserch and tinkering with the gps.conf I have made my GPS 50% better. See page 2.

I've had the same problem. My GPS takes forever to lock on (if I try to start it up while navigating, it usually doesn't lock at all). And when it does lock on, the accuracy is terrible.
I haven't tried any of the tweaks, apps, or different ROMs or anything, but I shouldn't be really have to. GPS worked great on my now 2.5 year old HTC Incredible, and works fine on the Rezound I play with a lot. This was one of the things I was worried about when I bought this phone... HTC phones are known for having the best radios around... and Samsung radios are known to be ****. Well, this has only reinforced that for me.
For a comparison to the Rezound, see the attached screenshots taken at pretty much the same time, in pretty much the same spot. In fairness, I was moving (although coming to a stop) when the SGSIII one was taken, but the results that came out were actually one of the better ones. Around the time I took the screenshots, I was getting measurements similar to this as well as much worse than this, while both moving and stopped. Hell, you can even see that the 3G signal is weaker on the SGSIII.
I've seen these same issues discussed in a number of forums on here, and I recognize that not everyone has this problem. Most people's GPS locks on instantly and the accuracy is great. But there are still a lot of people who do have this problem, so it's definitely not just a couple isolated cases. I realize that I can take it in for a warranty replacement, but then I get a refurbished phone back, and those usually come with even more problems... which is the thing that pisses me off about the Verizon warranty program... I buy a brand new phone... it doesn't work... I get a refurbished phone in it's place. Samsung needs to just stop making shoddy hardware and it won't be a problem.
Don't get me wrong, I'd still take this phone over the Rezound any day. It's sexier, has a way better processor, camera, and battery life, and has a bigger screen. I just miss Sense and having radios that actually work well
For whatever reason, the old GPS issue thread disappeared. Initially I had no problems on stock, but when I flashed Invisiblek's JB 8-10 build, I wasn't able to lock on.
What I did was download FasterFix from the PlayStore. With GPS off, I launched it, set the region to my region, closed, and then turned on GPS, waited a minute and launched navigation again. See if that works for you. I think FasterFix calibrates your region or something if it's trying to find you somewhere in the world and is taking a while.

FasterFix seems like it might fix the lock-on time but not the accuracy, which is the (much) bigger problem.
I hope I don't. S2 had a POS GPS at first that took forever to fix.
Yea I can get a lock faster with a few play store apps. The thing is like said before, the accuracy is ****ty. Plus the navigation won't function cause of this. I hope someone with in depth knowledge can see what the problem is. I have not given up hope yet lol. I have a few things I want to test out and then I might throw my hands in the air. I need to get ahold of nitroglycerin33 on talk and ask him a few questions.
Jmo. I flashed the radio before Verizon got there ignorant hands on it. I forget what the version name is . I live on a fringe area and I was dropping calls left and right ,bad 4G conection. Now I would say its 60% better.

You should exchange the phone if you can. Mine was terrible before and now its perfect on the new phone.

I agree, GPS not working in these phones seems to be a hardware problem.
My G3 GPS works perfectly (better than my old Rezound in side by side comparisons, it locks almost instantly even inside where I work), but my boss had one that didn't work for ****.
VZ replaced his & now it works great.
My wife's S3 does something entirely different. GPS locks on fine and fast, but it says she's in Clintwood VA, about 500 miles off. First noticed it in the weather widget, but if she opens maps it starts in Clintwood, but locks on correctly in just a few seconds. Weather can be changed manually, but goes back to Clintwood after a while.
Never been to Clintwood, may need to see if there's anything worth seeing there.

That is just a bug in the [email protected] stock weather app, mine does the same thing. It always puts me in NYC which is a 6 1/2 hour drive away.
I use weather & toggle widgets flip clock/weather instead in Nova Launcher & that weather app always locates me perfectly no matter where I am.
Just got it and this is one of the best GPS's I have seen yet. Better than my S2 and my Razr.
My last GS3 had a similar issue too on top of the lock taking forever and it being a bit off. At one point it thought I was in Florida but I really live near DC. My friend noticed it when I was chatting with the FB app and it included Geotags and was wondering what I was doing in Florida.

I'm leaning toward a hardware issue myself cause I'm adjusting the NTP servers as we speak. I've used about 6 different ones . No change. I'm going to try some prop tweaks now.

I could be misinterpreting what you are trying to do, but why would the NTP servers have anything to do with your GPS problem? NTP simply delivers UTC time....
GPS works prefer for me. Takes about ten seconds at most to lock

I'm not sure what the problem is that's why I'm trying to distinguish between hardware or software. Just exploring all options. Can't hurt.

OK might be on to something
If anyone wants to try it out I will post it here in a little bit. From tweaking the GPS.conf file I got this>>>
When I started the day I got not one lock on a satt !

No, it certainly can't! I was just wondering, as NTP just delivers time, and has no positional information...
Agreed the lock does take forever UNLESS you turn on Google Location Services (which I usually have off), and it is accurate as all hell even indoors. I wonder if turning that on with Standalone GPS will solve your issues.
Edit: GPS lock was great with Maps indoors, but switching to Navigation it never locked onto GPS even though it had my location perfectly!
OK if you want to prove my concept feel free to . Let me no if it works for you. Go out side or be in a car while locking on!
1) Download new gps.conf file>>>
http://db.tt/5xvFneRt
2) Replace it in /ect . Rename the original one from .conf to .bak. using a file explorer with R/W enabled , so yes you have to be rooted!
3) Download GPS toolbox https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2
4) Reboot.
5) Enable standalone GPS and Google services NOT Verizon services.
6) Open GPS status select options/tools/reset . Then options/ tools/download
7) Reboot
8) Open GPS status and wait for lock . Mine took 5 min a friends took 3. Then open up navigation .
9) Profit
