[PRJ] Announce: Wing Linux 0.4pre4 Released - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

All,
Wing Linux version 0.4pre4 (development) has been released to our project page at:
http://wing-linux.sf.net
Wing Linux is a project devoted to Linux and Android on OMAP850-based devices. Currently, our project has support for the following devices:
HTC Artemis (preliminary)
HTC Elf / Elfin
HTC Excalibur
HTC Gene
HTC Herald
HTC Opal
HTC Pharos
HTC Prophet
HTC Wizard
Other devices may work too -- Give it a try!
We have Android 1.5 (Cupcake) and Angstrom 2007.12 running on these devices, with keyboard / buttons, backlights, bluetooth, GSM/GPRS working in various states on all devices. The best supported devices are the Wizard and the Herald, but others work well too. See detailed device status at:
http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/wing-linux/wiki/Devices
Features from 0.4pre3 include:
Provisioning patch added so Android can receive calls on first boot
New AT&T APN support
New board support for HTC Opal, Pharos, and Excalibur
Fixed reset_ts functionality so it doesn't loop forever
Video rotation on keyboard slide fixed for Wizard and many others
New keybindings for Elf and Elfin
Fixed SD card mounting in Android
Added new fake battery driver so no more /sys_dev cludge is needed to boot Android
Lots of miscellaneous bug fixes
- darkstar62

Trying it out on my tornado, im going to try the excalibur config this time , wish me luck xD.

IT WORK'T =D, im on android, but all the buttons are mess up,anyways il join wing-linux tomorrow so we can sort this out

boots 1st time on my Wizard. Brilliant work thank you so much. Cant wait to see what happens next with this project

could this be of use for the audio ? http://open-nandra.com/2009/05/repository-for-omap850-audio-driver/
Seems a port of the audio driver to 2.6 kernel. If audio could work i would happily use android as my default system. Im going to test booting using the EOL bootloader from the linwizard page. Hopefully we see some speed improvements also

So is this just a cab file that you can install on your SD card or is it a whole new OS? And if it's a cab, can you uninstall it too? Want to see how it works on omnia but dont wanna mess up my phone

Why porting Linux/Android to so old devices? What's the point? On the other side nobody is working to port Android to HTC Topaz/Rhodium.

It installs as an add-on to your existing programs, no replacement at all. So you can uninstall it if you like. When you start it, Windows is replaced in memory by Linux until you reboot again. Then, you're back in Windows.

Well, mainly because we have these old devices, and very few people have the Topaz/Rhodium. Also, it's fun!

Android is not a special "thing" you just put anywhere and run, it has a kernel and is composed out of drivers and configurations, i'm pretty shure everething is out there but needs to be packed out together...
I'm a software developer but i have no experience compiling Android, my research is driving me to the HTC Lexikon (Merge) recently launched, this PDA hardware is very similar to the Imagio and it stock's Android so the work will be almost done and we won't need to start from "0", if you can help about please contact me..
Try this one

Try this one, this PDA holds almost the same hardware as the imagio, it deffinitely should work:

Post your results !!!
Has AnyOne tried his solution?
the lexikon is almost alike to the imagio
and if it doesnt work you can flash back.
So its a win win
i dont use whitestone.
It booted (i guess) !!

Hi, i am currently developing Android for the Imagio, i just startted the process and some tests, yesterday i was able to boot using a Topaz old testing kernel, but the screen was blank. I plan to compile a custom kernel for the Imagio.
I posted the Lexikon image but it wont work for the imagio because of the processor are different (Imagio= MSM7600) but i guess i could use some drivers from the Lexikon...
Wish me luck, i'm reading a lot to understand the kernel and Android
You can download the image i used here:
http://www.4shared.com/file/h9LTDTdp/droid_booted_imagiotar.html
And maybe, if you find the correct cmd_line arguments for HaRET you can get the screen to work properly
Glad someone is working on this. I'm right there with you! Make a thread on the imagio forum or pm me if you need testing.

[Q] Installing Android on Nokia C6

Hello Guys, I am new to this FORUM and I sure like the posts and answers.
Well over the years I have been using one nokia phone or the other and this time I own a C6 and I am tired of the SYMBIAN Series, No Flexibility of customizing the home screens and the sluggish menus etc, etc. Can some help or find me a way to boot Android on my phone. I know there is a way to boot Android in Windows Mobile using Emulator BUT how about Symbian?
Buy Android phone, that is a really simple solution to your question.
btw can you share how to emulate android on windows mobile as you have quoted in your note.
I know there is news about Nokia N900 (Maemo) being run on Andriod. You may google to find this and may look for some help there.

@rachit: for your emulation Q.
I am not sure how to do it as I don't have a windows mobile phone but I am sure I have seen some posts.
here are some links.. hope u can find your way through. there is a program named haret which helps you to boot to Android. Just install Android in SD Card and then run Haret is what they say. But most of them have done it only on HTC Phones.. Good Luck!

Most of them have only done it on HTC phones because only two HTC phones - HD2 and Vogue have been the most stable and successful running android either on the SD card or NAND. A few other phones in the "Legacy" device family are able to run it but only on the SD and not NAND memory as stable as the two listed.

Win CE 7 on Windows Phone devices

Is it possible to port Windows Embedded 7
(CE7) on Windows phone 7 and even Windows
mobile 6 devices?
If Windows phone 7 core is based on ce7 so
the BSPs should be usable for CE 7.
Sorry if my question seems stupid.
It won't work as the Bootloader is not open. As soon as it is completely cracked we should be able to install CE7, but then again: the Drivers would be missing. Also Phone 7 is not based off CE7, CE7 was released after Phone 7, which is still based on CE6.x
Well, HTC bootloaders are open (at least up to a specific version) and you could probably build a ROM that would work. I'm not aware of any current efforts to do so, though.
Sent from my HD7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
but only the ones covered by HSPL / RSPL and most devices that were updated to mango via zune are on 4.x or 5.x which are closed again - correct me if I am right

You said that it isn't possible to use of older version of CE drivers on newer ones?
It isn't possible to port CE7 on windows mobile 6.x devices?
If no, how WP7 ported on HD2?
ask cotulla , he did run ce7 on hd2 , there are even pic's videos from.
the problem is that you would need to build your own ce7 build for the phone and that isn't that easy to do.

hd2 was a test phone for wp7 so it isn't ported to that phone it was simply build by MS/htc to run wp7 (build 6***)
after that dft dumped that early build and rebuild it with the latest os build's
that is way the camera and touchscreen arn't that good on hd2 (htc just didn't make good drivers for it )
all drivers for hd2 are still old build drivers from that test build and they didn't got updated by MS/HTC.
Moved to WP7 Q&A
No Questions in the development section please.
Take it easy
O_G
please answer.
I would love to help you with developing. What phone do you have or what phone do you plan to target specificaly

[Q] HTC Incredible S + Accessory Development Kit (ADK)

Hi XDA.
I am new to this forum but have been working with Android devices and application development for about a year.
Recently I switched phone and bought the HTC Incredible S.
Besides of the phone development I have an electronics consultancy company doing different development jobs and electronics hardware reviews.
This week we got the Arduino MEGA ADK to review but I am unable to install the DemoKit application on my phone.
This is the log from Eclipse:
Code:
Installation error: INSTALL_FAILED_MISSING_SHARED_LIBRARY
E/PackageManager(1448): Package com.google.android.DemoKit requires unavailable shared library com.android.future.usb.accessory; failing!
This seems like a problem regarding the missing Google API on the phone. Though the phone is currently running Android 2.3.5 with Kernel version 2.6.35.9.
After a Google search it seemed like the Google API was first included in the kernel version at and above 2.6.35 - but then why doesn't it work.
My question is if HTC have removed this from the Kernel?
And what can I do to get the Google API to my phone so I can use it with the ADK?
Best Regards
Thomas Jespersen
you are missing 2 library's:
android.hardware.usb.accessory.xml sould be placed in /system/etc/permissions/
and
com.android.future.usb.accessory.jar sould be placed in /system/framework/
you can extract them out of an up to date ported sense rom of a htc sensation.
I made an update package for that problem but i can't share the link here because I do not have posted enough post to do so.
I will try to PM the link to you.
Tell me if it works, then I know that i can buy a HTC incredible s for my development.

Thanks, I will be waiting for your PM.
Currently my phone isn't Rooted, but I would definitely do that if it is necessary to install this fix, so I can do the ADK development with it.
ADK
Indeed your phone needs to be rooted and have Clockworkmod installed.
As far as I know it is not hardware or firmware specific since it worked on my htc HD2 an on my HTC hero(partly). I could install the demokit.apk and it would not crash since there was no support in my kernel it could not communicate with my arduino.
Since my HD2 and my hero both run an old kernel and flashing other kernels did not work out very well I was forced to buy a nexus S (yesterday).
But since your phone has the 2.6.35 kernel and 2.3.5 from stock I think this could be the solution.
You could try to check if your kernel supports the ADK first, because you are not rooted and you maybe do not want to root your phone if it does not work afterwards.
If you have got the arduino part up and running you could try this:
#include <Max3421e.h>
#include <Usb.h>
#include <AndroidAccessory.h>
Code:
AndroidAccessory acc("Google, Inc.",
"DemoKit",
"DemoKit Arduino Board",
"1.0",
"h t t p : / / w w w DOT android DOT c o m ",
"0000000012345678");
void setup();
void loop();
void setup()
{
Serial.begin(115200);
Serial.print("\r\nStart");
acc.powerOn();
}
void loop()
{
byte msg[3];
if (acc.isConnected()) {
Serial.print("Accessory connected. ");
int len = acc.read(msg, sizeof(msg), 1);
Serial.print("Message length: ");
Serial.println(len, DEC);
}
delay(100);
}
Change the "DOT" to "." and remove the [spaces] in the above otherwise I could not post this because of that "10 posts rule"
Just paste this in an empty skech and upload. The extra libraries are easy to find. Even if you are using the arduino 2009 or the arduino uno the custom files are also pretty easy to find.
The serial monitor schould say:
Code:
Start
Device addressed... Requesting device descriptor.
found possible device. swithcing to serial mode
device supports protcol 1
Device addressed... Requesting device descriptor.
found android acessory device
config desc
interface desc
if the serial monitor dislpay's something like this:
Code:
Start
Device addressed... Requesting device descriptor.
found possible device. swithcing to serial mode
Data packet error: 5could not read device protocol version
I would seriously consider buying another phone because the above was what i was getting with my HD2 on every available kernel and rom. I have been wasting my time since december.
As you see after all I had to buy an other phone after all.
I hope this helps
hi
You never get HD2 to use ADK?
i bought an arduino mega adk and i want to use it..
i don't have money to buy a new phone...
any advice? thanks
What is your current phone?
I have seen a google G1 working with ADK, i would sugest to maybe buy a second had phone that has 2.3.4 or higher on stock rom. For instance my mom's samsung galaxy mini can handle ADK on stock rom and I bought it for her Christmas for 100€, new in the store. So I think you can pick up a second hand one for a decent price (like 60€) maybe that could be the solution.
If you are going to buy a phone and you are not sure if it works with ADK take your laptop with you and use the test program that I mentioned in my last post, if the software doesn't recognize the phone you can still walk away from it.
I would really not recommend to start messing around with kernels and the library's for me it was a pain in the ass. If I would have worked all the hours that I have spend messing around, I could have bought a new HTC sensation.
hi
How Bad i can't use my HD2 with ADK..
well, i can't pay for an expensive phone but i can do and efford to buy some other phone i like HTC Sensation xl, or Motorola Atrix 2, but they are a expensive for me.. do you know if they work with ADK? other option can be a galaxy tab with 3.1 or motorola Xoom.. but i want a phone with ADK.
i haven't try my hd2 with kernel 2.6.35 with the sketch that you post.. so i'll give it a try and extract the files that someone mentioned i found them in my actual ROM..
i know it's difficult but maybe i get them to work.. thanks
htc sensation xl
I know for shure that a htc sensation xl because my girlfriend has one and I did try some stuff with that one since my hd2 wasn't compatible with ADK. I have heard people having trouble with ADK on samsung tablets so if youre are going to buy one be sure to test it before u pay for it.

I have now tested this on a stock but rooted ROM with 2.3.5, and 2.6.35 kernel, installed using Clockworkmod - and unfortunately it didn't work.
It gave me the complete same error as before I installed the files (*.usb.accessory.*).
Thank you anyways. I will be trying some different ROMs today to see which of them supports the ADK. Though I will be trying the Sense ones as I would like to keep using Sense.
You are right my explanation was not clear enough, the kernel needs to be compiled with the right flags set. Some developers take all the options but most of them just set the flags needed for the rom to run.

Ubuntu Touch porting - where to post?

Hello All,
I am trying to re-vive the Ubuntu Touch port for Galaxy S3. In which of the many areas of XDA this would be placed?
- Its no official or unofficial Android ROM
- its rather like Sailfish OS
How to name the thread correctly according to [ROM] etc flags?

The other problems I manage locally - but I want to start a discussion thread soon, since I am convinced to be able to push out a test build soon. I want to involve more people into this, thereby generating more possible solutions for problems.
In case you are interested, the phone boots already correctly, kernel is fine without errors, Android container starts also without errors. Ubuntu´s init/upstart is mounting all necessary partitions, and brings up most of the basic services. Currently stuck with GUI since mir/libhybris/unity8 cannot paint on framebuffer or hw composer

Hi,
good to know. We just need to make sure AT&T version does not have too much difference from the international one. Can you dedicate it for testing? It does not need data to be wiped normally, since Ubuntu runs off a container in the data partition but you never know...
I am currently stuck with the GUI and tbh I have no idea when and how this will be resolved. Samsung has done a great job with their GPU and Exynos, but our libhybris part does not want to play with it nicely.
Keep you updated!
BR
Actually I use it as my DD but wouldn't mind testing a few ROMs for the gd of the comm.
Aiite then. Patiently waiting for the update.
I have the international version of S3 GT-i9300. It is currently without a working rom, so I need to find time to see if it will boot with an official rom flashed with odin, it currently has an old clockwork mod recovery installed and a lineage os rom that wont boot..
If I get it working again, then I could dedicate it to testing... I would love to have a phone that was pure linux with phone capabilities... then I would no longer need to use google's linux abomination known as android
Hi,
sorry to say but I stopped now every porting activity, since Canonical dropped Ubuntu Touch and we are struggling on all other frontlines to get the community together for continuing the OS.
There will be no new hardware ports in the near future, which I think will be up to 1 year or 2. By that time, also S-III etc are end of life, since its hard to support multiple generations of smartphones with different kernels properly. Im afraid we are too late...
Anyway, contact me if you want to help in other areas of Ubuntu Touch going UBports community

Hi there,
Florian from UBports. The active devices that we support can be found here: https://devices.ubports.com/#/ - that being said, you wont find the Note 2 there as an active device. What happened in the past I can´t say, but currently we have no ETA to work on new devices.
