Cooking your own ROM for other WM phone brands - Non-Touchscreen Windows Mobile Other

The phone in question is an old ASUS v1210 that I'd like to upgrade. I don't expect any operator to release a newer wm version (it's up to 6.0 from 5.0 right now, curtoasy of Vodafone NZ). I'm wondering how I could upgrade it to 6.1. And how.
I have absolutely no experience whatsoever concerning flashing phones, but I've been a network admin for 9 years now, and a software developer for another four. The willpower is there

The cleanest WM6.0/1 ROM

Hi,
I have a G4 Wizard (T-Mobile Mda Vario to be exact). It'll be my first flashing. So I've done a good deal of reading and searching the net.
And here comes the big decision - which ROM to choose. I want an English language WM 6.0 or 6.1 ROM for G4. That still isn't a big problem since there are many of them.
But I'd like to ask you guys what's the cleanest (emptiest) ROM? (WM6.0/1 for G4)
What I mean by that is I don't want too many applications coming with it - I want to install what I need on my own.
Of course I want it to have the basic applications that normally come with WM (when you're buying a WM6 device) such as phone, camera, office and all that.
I've found that there had been a topic about this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298969&highlight=cleanest+rom), but that one is more than a year old and I guess new ROMs have come out.
Thanks in advance,
Alex(ander)

Try this.The lite version
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=388229
Or this.The Vanilla Edition
I use the HTC business edition ROM. It's WWE, smal and very stable...

thank you very much
I tried the SNN Edition Version 3.0 LITE but it didn't work (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2172475).
Before I used the Mun RUU fraham replied and I tried HTC business edition ROM which seemed better for me (I've read all 12 pages about SNN and all 13 about HTC Business Edition).
Works great
I say, cook your own. that's the cleanest you will ever get

top software for my Duo with 6.1

I have to say my 3125 before it died had a lot of roms and other software to play with. Now that ATT gave me a Duo I am finding less software out there. I was able to find the beta 6.1 upgrade for it. But I want to find some new software for this phone to get it a little more custom like I had my 3125 setup but just wondering what is out there?

[Q] Touch Pro 5.2 upgrade

Hello,
I have HTC Touch pro that i got from my sister in Australia (3). The phone has:
os 5.2.21916
I am using this in Canada on Fido.
Now the question I have is:
- Is there any official upgrade i can do to this phone? WM 6, 6.1, 6.5??
- As you see I am using a Australian phone in Canada.. I dont really need data. I do use WiFi.. What would be a good ROM for the following criteria:
- FAST
- Bug Free
- Do not care as much for a lot of apps except MS office
- Will be installing Garmin XT
I am a total noob to this whole ROM thingi.. Please help...
no 6.5 official roms exist, official 6.1 and below exist. you can install garmin on any version. NATF (not a treo fan) used to make v. good roms, some versions include stripped down roms for max performance.
some people complain that the sense interface slows down that phone, so check and if you don't like it, you can disable it.
double post, plz delete.
Thanks for the reply..
So I guess the next question is how do I get the official 6.1 ROM (not a cooked one) for this phone.
I checked the HTC site but they don't have anything that I can find....I tried the HTC australia site and the last release is:2008-12-04
From the HTC www site I see there is: 2009-08-30
htc.com/www/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=140&act=sd&cat=2
Can someone confirm that i can put this on my phone which has OS5.1 currently?
Sorry for spammin.. but I guess my confusion is from the fact that..
After I installed the ENERGY 6.5 ROM, the Settings>about tells me that OS is 6.5
but when i do settings>Phone info>SW info: It says Os version is: 5.2.21916
So I guess the question is how do I updated my phone's base OS to 6.1
You should do a little more research before posting
I'm not trying to be rude, but you're going to run people down really quick with this line of questioning. Most of the answers to your questions could be answered by just reading more threads, maybe even a little wikipedia. I'll give you one hint: your phone does not have (nor did it ever have) Windows Mobile 5, and there is no such thing as WinMo 5.1 or 5.2. Unless your sister installed a new ROM, you've got Windows Mobile 6.1.
Now, go back and do some more research and decide for yourself: what ROM do you want to install? Is there a reason you don't want a cooked ROM? (is it because you believe that the "official" ROMs somehow are better?)
Good luck!
You can test what rom you like by flashing different ones rather than ask "what rom is the best?" I have no idea what your tastes are. It doesn't hurt to flash different roms as long as you back up your data
In my opinion, the custom roms blow away official roms in terms of performance and cosmetics. (All my opinion, you choose for yourself)

[Q] Windows 6.5 on HTC Kaiser/TyTN II

i got this old phone because my iphone was stolen. windows 6.1 is on it right now. this is the at&t version of the phone. Please be aware that i know nothing about roms/phone hacks/etc...
i would like to upgrade this phone to windows 6.5 (or 7 if it can do it)...
thank you for your help.
also, what software do i use to hook the phone to the pc (windows 7 64-bit)
um, anybody! HEY THERE!
To connect the device to Windows 7 you will need Window Mobile Device Centre.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931937
There is a link for 32 and 64 bit versions.
For upgrading the ROM start here.

Mobile 7 is probably impossible.
Is the upgrade form 6.1 to 6.5 worth all the hassle?
well, let me ask you: is winmo 6.5 way better than 6.1?
Only if you really need the finger flicking Sense iPhone style user interface. That's all it seems to offer over 6.1
First off unlocking the phone and upgrading the stock Rom is probably the best thing you can do to improve performance .
I did this and am running basically a stock Rom with all the garbage-ware removed, it is more stable and faster . See my sig for the Rom..

6.1 and 6.5 , both have there advantages , it all depends on what you like..

Will there be any new devices with Windows Mobile?

Does anyone know if any of the big manufatcurers is planning to release some new devices with Windows Mobile?
I really would like a phone with a 1Ghz CPU and hardware keyboard (and all the other basic features of modern smart phones) but i cant get warm with Android and Windows Phone is totally useless for me.
I don't think so. WM 6.5 is the older version of WP7 so it would be weird to release new phones with an old OS.
You should jump into Android. It's definitely better than WM that I've used for years but I would never come back to that OS.
WM is not the older version of WP, WP is something new. They have nothing in common.
I know, thanks. Let's not split hairs on words.
This is Microsoft new mobile OS if you prefer so this is really unlikely that manufacturers would release new devices with MS old OS. MS themselves have buried that OS and have designed a totally different OS as WM didn't fit anymore with new devices. Not finger-friendly etc.

As far as I know, there are no plans on creating any new Windows Mobile devices. But, you never know. I believe these (http://developer.android.com/index.html; http://www.htc.com/www/product/hdmini/overview.html) are the latest and probably the last new WM phones from major manufacturers.
