HTC Magic Vs Touch2 - General Questions and Answers

hi everyone. this is my first post ever :O
I'm thinking, and i want purchase a PDA but I'm having serious problems choosing one
HTC is the only brand I'll be considering but witch brand!!! I'm thing of Sapphire or Topaz. Beside the obvious differences, camcorder, size, ect, i don't know with is better!!
my main questions are:
- Does the Sapphire manage rom's other than the Hero's rom?
- Does the Topaz supports the Sapphire or Hero's rom?
- With of this 2 PDA's will be able to support multi touch? ( I've seen a vid and Sapphire supported it :S )
- Wicth has the best touch screen and why!
- Witch has the best processor?
- Witch has the best accelerometer?
in this "dogfight" who wins
thanks guys

The Magic is an Android OS and the Topaz ? ( Diamond 2 ) is Windows Mobile. The roms are not interchangable, and for now there seem to be more people cooking roms for the Topaz, though that could change.
Before considering anything else about the phones, " do you want Android or Windows Mobile " study up on that decision first.

I've seen the windows OS and didn't find it nothing special, better than the iPhone for miles.
Android has a big advantage because it's developed by the same people that are responsible for Google, and in my opinion it will outgrow W.M.. haven't tried it but i think it's easier to program in Android than W.M.!!
Finally, yes i don´t know what OS will buy!!!!

Welcome to forums
I would stay with WM meantime Android becomes a more solid and mature OS, by now is too young and limited.
Just my opinion,

Touch HD or Omnia2

Hay guys,
I am getting a new PDA, I have tytn now and it has served me good.
Could you give me your look on this two models, I am thinking about Samsung, since it has much better specs and display, but I got used to touchflo 3D interface a lot...
Is it possible to put it on Omnia?
Your answer will be appreciated and will help me decide what to buy.
Thanks!
There is one added value for choosing HD
The sup`port of this fantastic site!!
Just because of that I´ll choose HD even if omnia has better specs...
Yes, that is bothering me too...
Well if you're not gonna flash your device or use Touch Flo 3D or any other ported software, than get Omnia 2.
You will still be able to get support in this forum. Most of the issues of non-HTC devices can be supported/solved without the need to correspond to an HTC device.
You could use TouchFlo 3D on your Omnia 2 if its WVGA. However as mentioned above the support provided by this site significantly exceeds that of any site that supports the Omnia. To be completely honest, if you havent bought your device yet you should consider the Touch Diamond II. The reasoning behind this is i read an article somewhere mentioning that devices without a windows button will not get an official WM6.5 ROM or something stupid like that (Correct me if im wrong).
Ill be upgrading from my Tytn to an Omnia2
I agree that HTC gets great support here but Hardware and capability wise there is nothing to compare with the omnia2 on the horizon.
AMOLED screen, headphone jack,tv-out,5mpx cam with dual flash....what more could anyone possibly want?

A forum specialized like this for that device!!!
Hmm, the Touch HD vs Omnia II i8000.
Well, lets face it, this is a question of 'XDA support' or 'No XDA support'. Specs-wise, the i8000 has the Touch HD crushed completely (as have been the case with all new Samsung models; HTC hasn't updated their specs in forever).
Personally, if you ask me for a choice between those two models, I would go with the i8000. The main reason I love XDA support is that it makes the interface looks better and it makes the software faster, but from what I see, the i8000 is already plenty fast and it looks very, very good. Furthermore, the i8000 has support forums too (though not on the level of XDA), so any deficiency may be corrected by its own forums anyway.
The idea of choosing a WM device based on software seems very silly to me. One can find a CAB for just about any Windows Mobile software (including, yes, TouchFlo 3D), so transition between WM devices based on software is very simple. If anything, the i8000 should be more appealing software-wise as Samsung put a lot of amazing software on it that has not been ported to other devices yet.
Always buy for the better specs and design. Never buy for the software support. Buy for the software that is already provided.
Any extras can be found on other fan sites and other non-htc developers. Therefore the Omnia 2 is a much better choice.
Besides there are plenty of software that are created that supports non-htc devices, and there are also software that are created specifically for non-htc devices.
Furthermore alot of the technical problems are Windows Mobile based and not always HTC based.
The only 2 reasons to get HTC devices is 1) if you prefer the design and the specs of HTC and 2) if you want to flash your ROM.
HTC devices are easily flashed to a different ROM, but hey man not everyone uses ROMs... I don't ever use ROM's...
Therefore Omnia 2 is a perfect choice if you don't flash your ROM...and point number 1 shows that HTC Touch HD is outdated....so therefore get Omnia 2 if you don't flash your ROM....
Think about it mate.

a zooming ability on the video camera (while filming)
also, can it play divx/xvid movies like the HD can with coreplayer?
i download movies and dont have to re-encode them, just drag, drop, play. (...generally, unless there was some esoteric encoding used)
mark
I have the same dilemma. I am about to replace my Sony Ericsson W960i with a proper PDA and I am taking into account both, Touch HD and Omnia II.
Similarly I would like to have a Touch Flo 3d interface on my device and therefore I was keener on HTC Touch HD at first. However since it is possible to get a Touch Flo 3d onto all WinMo devices (as I deduced from 8525Smart's post)

I rather buy Omnia.
And here it comes to questions:
1. Are my assumptions concerning getting Touch Flo 3d onto Omnia correct?
2. Could anyone explain to me this ->

What does it mean to"flash your ROM" and how is it useful? Isn't it simply upgrading/updating the ROM?
I'd be grateful if you could help
well livegod guess what ! omnia2 has zooming while taking videos with its awesom camera
and the touch player can support almost 99% of all my downloaded and converted movies
as for the TF3D .. i love the new one and i cant seem to find it anywhere to be installed on my omnia2
i hate the widgets... makes the phone looks like a toy so i am using spbmobile shell + pointui
i'am from germany and I have the same problem.....
But here I can buy the Omnia in a few month....:-(
But what is whith the HTC LEO????????
Touchwiz 2.0 quite simply covers up WM 6.1 SO thoroughly on the Omnia II, it's almost like you're not using a Windows phone. The Omnia II is definitely the better pick unless you REALLY want ROMs to flash. Then wait for the Whitestone or Firestone or whatever HTC have next.
omnia camera is far better than the HD2
especially the video recording
the HD2 dont have a chance
but i dont care about the video recording so i will get the HD2
HD2, wins every time. You can flash what ever you want (when hspl comes out!), why would you ever want an omnia?
Hands down the HD2 (Leo). PPC of the year so far!
Samsung Omnia 2 place...
I'm a Forum XDA user for a long time.
It helped me a lot with my old HTC Wizard.
I was quite worried about buying an Omnia2 and losing the Forum support. But HTC HD cannot win O2 in SPECS.
About support... boys I have to admit.
For Omnia2 (that is not a HTC device) the best software and tweaks and amazing ROMs can be found on MODACO (sorry boys, but I have to say).
If you own an HTC device don't even consider getting there. The best place is here!!!
Concerning the TouchFlo3D, there are many versions available on MODACO. There's even a HTC HD2 like ROM with Sense 2.5
Thanks!

WM Rom for Samsung Jet

Hello all,
Someone knows if there is a wm rom for the Samsung S8000 (Jet)
I like to hear about it, and i know that this forum is mostley related to HTC phones..
Sorry for my bad english.
Thanks
Greetings
Alex
Welcome to forums
As here we dedicate only to HTC devices you won´t get too much atention, however in off topic there is a thread regarding samsung (another model)

Samsung JET have a Samsung OS - so there is no way to cook a Windows Mobile ROM for it.
you mean it's impossible to replace Samsung OS with WM? I am sure it's possible. Has anyone looked into it? What are the obstacles preventing that happening. Is it fundamental?

I agree. I don't see a reason.
Saying that this is not a WM device is not valid. You can load other OS in your phone if it supports the hardware and the loader interface. If the hardware is so similar, it's a matter of analysis...
If I had one, at least I'd try to flash a OmniaII rom (phone+boot+pda).
I'll contribute $$ to the cooker that could provide such ROM for the Jet s8000.
Cheers
One more contributor here! 50USD for someone that cooks a Jet WM ROM.
I bought one to my wife. The phone is great and I would definitely have one if a Windows Mobile ROM is avaliable...
btw... it has the exact same processor and general specs as the Omnia II
About processors i'm not sure... But OMNIA II have 256Mb RAM vs 128Mb in JET. Maybe there also different radio modules (GSM/UMTS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth) and different video controllers.
P.S. Sorry for my bad english

i'll contribute another 50 USD if there is a winmo rom for this phone
i think there would be alot in interest here, particularly since many xda users would happily flash a WinMo rom if it were available!
I have recommended this model to my brother and he loves it, his previous phone was the N95. Now to get the Jet to WinMo!:

Tattoo vs Touch 2

Hello, I have a question. I have an opportunity to buy tattoo or touch 2 for cheap price (so no other phones is an opportunity)
Which is better? As far as I checked - only difference is OS, windows mobile 6.5 vs android 1.6, so the question - which OS is better?
So far I heard:
Windows mobile 6.5:
+ Have better multi tasking
+ More apps ready, easier to find cracked apps
- Little slower
Android 1.6:
+ More friendly interface
+ Faster
+ Uses mostly freeware
- Not so easy to find apps
Anyone can give some other pluses or minuses for these OS? So I can decide?
Heard that touch2 can have dual OS, but then android doesnt work 100%?
Welcome to forums
pdadb.net will give you smoe valuable info regarding your comparative
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacomparer
Tnx about link, but I know all info about these (exept one thing, whats "Built-in accelerometer"? My eng isnt that good, it thing that, if u rotate ur phone, the window will switch to landscape/portrait ?)
I want more compare of the OS for these... Which is better, whats pluses and minuses ...
i own HTC Mega (touch2) , well , for 1 week from the making of HSPL we could choose between 3 custom ROMs ;]] more are starting to come out ... if u can take the two phones for 10-15 mins , surf everything , then u can decide best ! although , when i ordered my phone as soon as i saw WinMo6.5 it was no doubt that this was mine ;]] actually i've never had any HTC phone before and didnt know what to expect whatever u choose u wont be dissapointed
I touched tattoo for about 3min, just had no clue what to check out... Previus phone was old nokia 6233...
Saw touchscreen, some icons etc, but I just want ppl to write whats better in these two OS, so I can choose...
I cant say that I want to take touch2 cos of wm6.5 cos Im not fan of win, I rather think about tattoo cos android is new and good OS...

Hard to decide between three phones

X10, N900 or HD2.
So now I need you guys and gals to help me solve this problem; which one to buy ? Last one I had was Kaiser, and it was god awful, but I loved it anyway and HTC made phones has got this site as a plus side and ehh... TOO HARD
just a good list of pros and cons would be good because I don't know any of them, since I have been out of this scene for a long time and haven't had time to follow any reviews. Has there been any problems with drivers or anything with any of those phones ? How is the build quality etc, can I upgrade X10 to A2.2 ?
Personal experiences are more than welcome, specially if you have tried all three phones.
like a hard keyboard: N900 runs with Linux and nice interface
wanna play around with an easy interface: X10 running android combined with sony ericsson games and apps
like a big screen with big processor: out of the three i would go with this devices because of it's big screen making it good for watching movies and browsing xda also it is very fast with it's 1Ghz processor!
I would go for Leo with no doubt as it´s HTC and very powerful device with nice big screen!
Have a look here to make a detailed comparision
Can I upgrade Android like Winmo ? Just flash it and it's done ? I read somewhere that this isn't like in WinMo and I would hate to wait until SE releases new version to their devices : / And I also read that there is some hardware related multitouch issue with X10 ?

Android is a bit different in that you have to obtain 'root access' before flashing a custom ROM - think 'run as administrator' on a PC. You also get a recovery partition which you can flash and put enhanced features on, which can be nice.
Basically, once you get root and flash a HardSPL then you can flash a new ROM as easily as WM - easier in fact, as you normally do it by SD card.
Anyway, you won't be able to flash a HardSPL or a custom ROM until that root is available, which it currently isn't for the X10 (although it's only a matter of time, really).

[Q] HTC touch diamon windows or android?

just bought a touch diamond whats best windows or android & is it easy to flash back to a windows rom if i try and dont like android... and what roms do folk on here like best on this phone ? opinions please
wELL IT SEEMS NO ONE HAS THE TIME OR INCLINATION TO REPLY ON HERE ANY MORE? I WONDERD IF ITS CHANGED THAT MUCH,FOLK USED TO HELP BUT NO REPLYS,GUESS I WILL JUST HAVE TO STAB IN THE DARK TO SEE WEATHER ANDROID IS FOR ME OR TO STAY WITH WM,whoops please excuse the caps lock was on..
It's only been 24hrs, please be patient when asking a question for the answer.
Re: WM vs Android:
Android does not work 100% on WM devices so it's best to check the Android thread and see what isn't working and if you can live without it.
Alot of Android bases can work via haret on SD card so no need to flash, the nand versions you can flash back to WM via bootloader.
Make sure your Hard-SPL'd.

- You'll get better answers in the Diamond section.
- You didn't even say which model/carrier Diamond you have. GSM Diamond is different from Sprint/Alltel Diamond is different from Verizon Diamond. They are NOT interchangeable.
- Android for CDMA/Sprint Diamond is not really ready for prime time. Biggest problem is battery drain.
- You can try it WITHOUT flashing... just d/l the needed files and run it.
- The best forum to discuss ROMs for the Diamond is on www.ppcgeeks.com
- My favorite ROM for the Sprint Diamond is MightyRom 4. It is WM6.1. I see no point to WM6.5 for the Diamond.
OK thanks & sorry for impationtness would put it down to a bad day at the hair dressers or some thing but being bald/shaved that wont work so i just apologise ,yes i think looking about that i will stick with wm, i have seen the energy rom on the tube i like the look of that , the icons look real good and it seems smooth, so will have a look at some other roms and see, in an ideal world i would just get the handset of choise but i have to search for auction bargins to get my phones.. thanks Ali
