I'm stuck at the second Andriod boot screen, any ideas - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

My problem is that the phone wont boot pass the Android flash screen. It does get past the first Vodafone screen.
My hardware is the 32B running Hboot = 1.33.0004 (SAPP10000)
what I have done so far is to be able to boot to RAv1.2.1G I have been able to back my phone up using android (and restore).
I thought using this procedures I would be able to able to add customs ROM by just renaming them to update.zip, they seem to load into the phone just get stuck on the above screen.
I haven't done anything with the SPL (Hboot) as to me it appeared booting to Rav1.2.1G does this for me.
I also have not flashed the Rav1.2.1G image to the phone, instead using the fastboot option each time I was to perform the rom update.
Any ideas way the phone wont get past the second screen?

make sure you have 'wiped' data, if you have the 3 partitions on your sd card, make sure you have formatted over the ext3/4 one.
Update the zip again, and pray lol

I have tried wiping the data after the upgrade and not the before, I'll give the before a go.
I only have one partition on the sdcard which was formated in windows 7

Cheers wiping data just before the update of the ROM fixed the issue.

pls connect the usb to pc and post the output of
Code:
adb shell logcat
cheers
EDIT: nevermind, you solved in the meantime

Rooted MyTouch can boot to fastboot, but nothing else

A bit stuck here. I have a MyTouch which I previously rooted using a goldcard and had installed a Hero ROM on it. This worked fine but performance was terrible, so I attempted to go back to a simple ROM I found on these forums.
After installing the new ROM, the phone booted up but froze on the splash screen. This has been the situation ever since:
Back+Power gets me fastboot. Can use fastboot to talk to device.
Any attempts to "fastboot boot" a recovery rom results in reboot to splash screen.
Any attempts to Home+Power to go to recovery rom after fastboot loading it results in splash screen.
While in fastboot, 'adb devices' returns nothing (is that normal?)
Since I can still get to fastboot I have hope that this can be fixed without sending it in, but everything I can think of to try just puts me back on the splash screen.
I've already had to pay for repairs once, would love not to do it again. Please help?
Yeah, you should be ok if you can fastboot. What's your current radio and spl? If you're coming from cursor is it possible that you still have a hero radio spl combo installed and therefore 32a recovery Roms won't work? Or if you've already reverted to a magic radio spl then are you sure you're using the magic recovery and not the old hero recovery?
I tried something similar. I couldn't boot to any new AmonRA recovery ROM, but I tried an older version (v1.3.2 I think) and finally it booted to that recovery ROM. After that I could flash SPL to xx.2010 and flash to a new ROM. After I got new SPL and ROM, I could boot to the newest AmonRA recovery ROM (v1.5.2), but for some reason I've never been able to flash the recovery ROM
im going to hazard a guess here and say this is due to having the hero rom normally requiring you to have ur sd card formatted into fat32 ext and swap! i imagine you have gone ahead and flashed a new rom without re-formatting these, as this will cause rom to BOOT LOOP, and secondly have you wiped data/factory reset before flashing new rom

This sounds very likely that this is the problem ...
if you say what hardware you have so we can maybe help?
had the same issue
had to flash sappire.nbh
the run relentess rooter v1.2.3
then upgrade to latest version v1.5.2
good luck
try and not power into fastboot FIRST, instead, try booting into RECOVERY FIRST AND FLASHING A ROM FROM THERE (has to be on the SDCARD...) tell me how it goes ok?

[SOLVED] Help HTC Desire S - have I bricked it

I have a desire S, Which is S-Off through revoltionary and rooted! But i don't have a nandroid backup and my phone will no longer boot up. what can i do? I've tried to do a factory reset in recovery mode but that doesnt work.
How can i flash a stock rom on it to get it back to normal, i think its bricked... can someone help me?
1st of all i suggest you download a custom rom from the development section here.
then flash that via recovery. then hopefully your phone will load up into the new rom.
after you confirm this to me i will help you further to get back to stock rom
Thanks for the reply.
I did what you said, i tried to install a custom rom in recovery but it ends up aborting after a while, i dont think i can get any rom to work now, its not looking good
Fingers crossed
See this thread
Attempt the commands that are shown within the first #1 of it and you should be able to determine whether or not you have a fried eMMC chip.
See links in my signature for adb & fastboot drivers and the thread you need to see.
What recovery are you using? and what rom are you trying to flash?
I suggest downloading this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048203
Once you have done this follow these steps below to the letter
1. Boot into recovery
2. Format System (not wipe option but format option !!!)
3. Format Data
4. Format Cache
5. Wipe Data/Factory reset (1st option in wipe/format menu)
6. Wipe Dalvik Cache
7. Now install zip from sd card and flash the rom
8. Reboot
It was the Saga LBC mod that i was trying to install but it didn't work, nothing works that i try. i've formatted my sd card nom. basicly ive screwed everything up i've got no back ups of any rom and i cant get anything working

You need to give specifics and preferably screen pictures....(if possible) did you try the commands from the thread that I posted above, or what happens when you attempted the commands layed out by Eclipse_Driod above?
The more you tell us, the more we have to work with!?
I'm sorry but I dont know how to do the command thing, i'm a newbie when it comed to that I've basicly got a desire s that wont boot up and a SD card with nothing on, i think i need to somehow put a recovery image on my phone before i can install a rom
Is there any way i can install a recovery image to the sd card from the pc, that will then allow me to install a rom?

I believe that you already have a fully working recovery on your device, otherwise you wouldn't have been able to flash LBC ROM in the first place....so I suspect that the problem is else where....(possibly damaged eMMC chip) but unless you help us, by running the commands and testing this we are un-able to confirm this for you.
You can find the adb and fastboot commands as a link in my signature simply download and then put these on you PC and run the commands that were in the thread I posted earlier (thats also in my sig Fried eMMC?)
Although I also believe that if you're able to get to S-OFF then you're able to enter the commands from your PC that will enable you to flash a recovery onto your device.
See this post where I've previously instructed some one else how to do just this.
Any questions then just and try to take screen captures or cut 'n' pastes of all errors encountered.
Good luck

does it not even boot into recovery?
you need to hold down the volume down button and keep it held down while you power on the device. This will make it boot into recovery mode.
But before you can do that i would advise you take the sd card out of the phone, connect it to your computer with a card reader and copy over the lbc mod rom.zip file straight onto the card, then put it back into the phone.
then turn the phone off and boot into recover as mentioned above and select install rom from sd card and select the zip file you transferred over.
after it has installed reboot phone by selecting the "reboot" option in the recovery mode.
all should now be well.

and don't forget to hit that thanks button
Thanks for your patience.. I'm going to try and explain in full what i've done
I got S-off on my Desire S using "Revoluntionary" (after watching how to do it on YouTube) and after domwloading ClockWorkMod from market place I sucessfully installed Saga LBC ver 5.3. Everything was fine i was very pleased. I had a back up of the old stock ROM saved on my SD card which i did through Clockworkmod too.
Then this morning I got a update message from clockworkmod saying ver6.0 was available to download so i did. My phone never turned back on again I could get into recovery mode but nothing would work (wipe data, factory reset, Even tryin to install the old backed up rom didn;t work) it just kept freezing.
So i took my sd card out and plugged it into the pc to try to look for anothr rom to try out, thats when i ended up formattig the SD card (god knows why) So now ive got no backup, no clockworkmod, no nothing on my SD card...Am I screwed??

from what you have told me u still have clockwordmod recovery as it is on the phone itself. not the sd card. So you are ok there. What i need you to do next it to see if you are able to boot into recovery?
if you can then try again to format data, system and cache.
then try installing a rom from your sd card.
if it is still freezing while trying to perform a format then look back at bens previous posts about using adb through your pc to find out if your emmc chip is damaged
I can boot into recovery no probs there, but when i format data, system and cache it goes so far and then aborts
Ive just tried to install the LBC rom again i renames it PG88IMG ind it asked me to install so i did. It says 'update in progress' and the bar on the right starts to fill up but it stops near the top and eventually aborts
right, the only thing i can think of to try next is following the same method you said you followed to s-off through revolutionary.
it will say you are already s-off or something but click proceed anyway. and make sure from there that you type "y" when it asks if you want it to install clockworkmod recovery. as this will reinstall a fresh recovery image for you.
this is the only thing i can think of.
let me know how it goes
did you look at my post#11 above...
The second half of it contains instructions on how you can flash a new recovery image......from your PC.
Ive just tried to do the s-off again the way i did before but i can only go as far as the part when i connect my phone and open the revolutionary programme and it doesn't detect my phone
Ok, it looks like the last option to try is flashing a new recovery image manually.
For this you will need to download and install adb. which can be found here
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/what-is-adb-and-how-to-install-it-android/
along with instructions of how to set it up and use it.
after you have done this you will need to download this
http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-saga.img
which is the latest clockworkmod recovery for your phone. and rename it to recovery.img
then copy the recovery image to a convenient location on your computer, preferably with a short path. We will be placing it on the C Drive directly (not in any folder) and using that in the next steps.
Power your device off and reboot it in fastboot mode. (holding volume down whilst pressing power on button) then select "fastboot" from the list of options you get.
Connect your device to your computer via USB and wait till you see ‘fastboot USB’ on the screen.
Launch Command Prompt and type the following command:
fastboot flash recovery c:\recovery.img
Wait for the process to finish and reboot your device once it’s done.

[Q] CWM wipe s-on Brick

Long time listener, first time caller.
I have the latest hboot 1.45.0013, S-On, Unlocked with HTC Dev Tool.
I used the Hasoon2000 tool to install SU, CWM, and a recovery image. I then used the instructions in the thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508556) to install ICS and obtain root installing pyr-o-ice sense 1.1.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469615) Everything worked, created nandroid backup and installed titanium.
Some buttons didn't work, so I looked for updates and found Virtuous ROMs. So, I used CWM to clear dalvic, flashed boot image of the Virtuous Inquisition then used CWM to install zip. Bootloop. ROM just hangs on black screen with white V for 15 to 20 minutes.
MT4GS thread stated that Primadonna and Inquisition were comparable, so I followed the same proceedure, flashed Primadonna boot image then installed ROM through CWM. This time there was tmobile splash screen, but the same system hang.
At this point I tried to restore a recovery, but CWM could not find one. Used Astro to delete all boot images from SD root, assuming this may be the problem, and flashed a Virtuous ROM again. Same problem.
Based on this thread, I thought it might be the kernal, and tried flashing the pyr-o-ice boot image that worked initially. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1628171.html). No dice. CWM could not install the ROM (error 1)
So, at this point, I used CWM factory reset and wipe all data. And of course that made things worse, because the SD card with recoveries was wiped. I used adb to push the recoveries from Hansoon's toolkit, but stock recovery was not available (red triangle screen hang) and cwm could not mount the SD card.
So, at this point I used CWM to format SD card (blank anyway), and at this point adb failed to recognize the decive and I could no longer fastboot into recovery or hboot through adb. (volume down + power stopped working with pyr-o-ice install)
if i remove the battery and hold power + volume while using an adb reboot hboot command i can get into hboot about every 10th attempt. adb doesn't recognize the device ("waiting on device", or adb devices yields a blank list); however the phone in hboot will transfer to usb fastboot when connected with a cable.
i looked at pushing a zip file through adb to the sd root, but that was ineffective (adb does have write access to the sd root, maybe because i am s-on?). i purchased a second sd card, and copied the recovery images from hansoons toolkit and rebooted into recovery. still went to tmobile splash, followed by V-screen bootloop.
i looked at placing a stock ruu on the sd and naming the file PG59IMG.zip, but because i'm S-on i can't flash radios, so that's out.
So, here we are. Iffy access to fastboot, 2 sd cards, a lot of determination, and a persistent bootloop.
Can someone, PLEASE help me?
Thanks!
AFAIK, you cannot flash the boot.img with CWM if you are S-ON, you *MUST* use Fastboot to flash that. So, before you messed it all up, if you had just extracted the boot.img from the ROM and flashed it using Fastboot, it likely would have worked just beautifully.
Try booting into recovery and doing a regular flash of the ROM, THEN a fastboot flash of the boot.img.
SOLVED!!
Thanks to the folks heading up the HTC Unbricking Project (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1627881) ESPECIALLY Dexter93!! who patiently unraveled this for me, and Blue6IX for the Restore to Stock instructions in the Developers Reference Guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17424340&postcount=24) I'm back to stock, and ready to try it all again!
Can someone send me an apk that automatically clicks the thanks button for selected developers at regular intervals?
Thanks again!
Solved???
Fuzi0719, thanks for your reply. I may have written this inappropriately, but what coded in the command prompt was "fastboot flash boot boot.img".
The ROM zip file was placed on the SD card, and I rebooted into recovery, and used CWM to install zip from SD. I'm new to this so I may have used the wrong term for installing the zip through CWM, the boot image file was always handled through the above command.
I'm back to "stock" at this point, but when I boot into the bootloader, the phone looks for PG59DIAG.zip and PG59DIAG.nbh before PG59IMG.zip.
It then asks if I want to install the update. (This is after I have already installed the "update", and the phone reset itself even with my old wallpaper.) When I got to the home screen there was a white circle in upper left corner of the status bar, with "check content" message. Each time the screen locked (default 30 seconds) unlocking it took me to the mytouch splash screen with the green circle and white background for about 10 seconds before resuming.
Each time I check to see if the phone registers requiring any updates. It doesn't. Two installs of the PG59IMG.zip. "recovery" eliminates the unlock splashscreen, and wiped any customizations. However, the phone will not manually boot into the bootloader; I have to use adb. Hboot reinstalls the PG59IMG.zip as an update every time.
If I accept it reboots within seconds like a fresh doubleshot. If I decline the "update" it reboots to the Tmobile MyTouch 4G Slide text splash screen, then moved to the green circle screen for a few minutes before I get to the homescreen.
Blue6IX was looking for help with these last month (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1580077), so maybe they are just extraction files that HTC sends with the OTA update that would prevent my phone from trying to install the "update" every time?
In any case, my question at this point is after coming from such an unstable point with my phone, is this what every relocked bootloader does? Or, is this a problem that means something else is still wrong with the system? Because taking it back to stock has not solved this.
Thanks.
Thanks for clarifying, you wouldn't believe the number of people who fail to follow that one simple step of fastboot flashing the boot.img, so that's why I stated that. So, now you have the phone relocked, and running a stock ROM (the 1.55?), but with CWM 5.0.2.7? Were you wanting to update to the 1.63 ROM? I'm unclear on what it is you want to do. For one thing, if you've already flashed the PG59IMG then I would delete it off the sd card so it doesn't keep trying to load it.
Yup.
It was just that simple.
Mainly I wanted to make sure that my phone was stable before I went back to unlock the bootloader, etc.
Went back to HTC, got a new token (just in case), and I'm creating a nandroid backup right now. Thanks.
I really appreciate it.
Hopefully the next time I get stuck, it's just as simple to fix, but far less embarrassing.

Help i think I bricked my phone

Hey Guys,
I tried pretty much everything and don't know what else to do. My phone just stays stuck on the android screen. I forget that the "SD card" in this phone is actually part of internal storage, I did a factory reset and lost everything.
I tried flashing different boot.img and getting nothing. I'm afraid I need to get a rom onto the sd card but how is that possible if I cant get my phone to boot up.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
volume down button+power button try this combination until u get in the bootloader then select recovery. once in recovery just restore a backup if you have one, you should have one
i dont have a backup and i have nothing on my "sd" to i can install. I have formatted the ROM and thats why it wont boot..
If you can get into Recovery (CWM) in the advanced settings if i remember, there's a "format sd card" to make it work with the installation of a custom ROM
I posted a tutorial for how to do this:

thanks for the guide but im getting error mounting /sdcard. and if i follow cannondale0815 solution for that problem when flashing the stock and cwm I cannot access recovery mode.
Clear Storage in fastboot and re-install CWM then try it. That's how I got mine to work
Ok if your bootloader is locked and you have a custom recovery first flash stock recovery then boot into fastboot and run "fastboot oem lock" After that restart your phone and boot back into fastboot. Then run the RUU for your model and cid. easy.
Follow the steps which might work
1, If you knows something about adb, you can just simply push a rom into the sdcard(You don't need to do this if there is already a flashable rom in the sdcard), flash the kernel in fastboot, go to the recovery, wipe and flash a new rom. Then everything(except your data) should be fine
2, If you are not able to use adb push, or you have never flashed a recovery/3rd-party rom/ or you have other issues:
Using the RUU updater might be safe and simple (of course everything except those in the sdcard will lost)
a, relock the hboot using "fastboot oem lock"(or the RUU will refuse to continue)
b, run the RUU updater, wait for ~10min, your phone will be "refreshed" to something like the 1st day you bought it, except the Hboot will say it is "RELOCKED s-on"(this should be LOCKED s-on at first)
c,unlock your phone again(if you have stored the .bin file for unlock, just push it to your phone in the fastboot mode which is enough already, it is not needed to do the whole process in HTCDEV again.)
IMPORTANT: the RUU updater and the phone must be the same area. for example an Europe's RUU can't be applid to an US's One S
This is also the only method to update the Radio software, unless the hboot is S-OFFed

Phone Won't Turn On; Soft Keys Flashing When Buttons Are Pressed

Hi all,
So, last night I successfully rooted and unlocked my One X on AT&T. Today, I tried putting a ROM on it. I flashed the boot.img first, then tried to install the ROM (Jelly Bean Sense). It failed for some reason, so I wiped and rebooted my phone.
Instead of going back to the stock ROM, the phone now will not turn on, is not recognized on both laptops I tried, and does not recognize even being charged. The only thing that happens is when I press down the power button, all of the soft keys illuminate and flash until I stop holding it. I've managed to get into the bootloader screen once, but the phone reset itself before I could do anything.
The only screen I can get to with the Vol Down+Power combo is the HTC Screen, but it's the one that shows before my custom recovery, with some warning from HTC in red letters at the bottom.
At this point, I just want a phone that works. This is a lot more complex [for me] than rooting and flashing a ROM to the Inspire I had for some reason. I fly out for vacation in two days for a few weeks, so I'd like to be able to avoid having to send this thing back to HTC or AT&T if possible.
ANY help is greatly appreciated.
If it's easier, feel free to Skype chat me.
Thanks!
Im confused.. it won't come on, but you can get to recovery? If you can manually boot into twrp you'll be fine.. may I ask which Rom you flashed? Did you flash the boot.img first? Or after you flashed Rom? Alot of guys will say flash boot.img first.. I don't have that funky hboot but I have to do my cousins alot and his will only boot correctly if I flash Rom first, then boot into bootloader and fastboot the boot.img.
Try that and let me know how it goes
Also... Let go of all the buttons when you see the white screen lol. That means you found bootloader

I can get it to boot into the Bootloader screen and the TWRP now just fine, but that's as far as it will go. The internal SD will not mount with TWRP either now.
Here's the ROM I tried to flash: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2055490
I put it on my SD card, then extracted the boot.img to the folder I have my dab/fastboot files in, then flashed the boot.img, then tried to flash the ROM.
If I can get it working again, I'll try to do it in reverse order next time and see if that works. Still trying to find a way to get a ROM on here with my Mac, and to make my SD card work again. Everything on it is backed up so it's ok if I need to wipe it.
If you can get to bootloader, you're not bricked. It's just a matter of flashing the right stuff in the right order.
It could be that your sdcard is corrupted. Factory reset from bootloader will do it, but fixing it just a matter of formatting it again. Can you mount it on your computer? What happens when you plug into your PC?
Your sdcard is corrupt. No big deal but you'll lose everything. Plug it in into computer and locate the storage and try to find a way to format it. Sorry, I have no clue with a mac I swore off apple products
Anyway, you seem to know the ropes for the most part. If you can format, drag Rom onto SD. Wipe everything in twrp. Cache, dalvick, factory reset, system. Flash Rom.. immediately boot into bootloader and fastboot the boot.img. choose reboot from bootloader. Good luck!

Yep, I also suggest doing a factory reset from the bootloader ( which will erase your internal storage) but at least you'll be able to mount your SD card, put a ROM on it and flash it. I would highly recommended you to flash viper 3.0.0, you don't need to flash the boot.img and its pretty much stock JB with some tweaks.

I am having this same problem (minus the custom screen).
My phone will boot into TWRP and all, but it won't mount (PC says the disk needs to be formatted before it can be used). When I go to reboot or anything from TWRP, it tells me there is no OS installed and am I sure.
Can anyone help?
That's good news!
I tried doing a factory reset from bootloader, but nothing happened. Maybe because the SD card won't mount?
I only have a Mac, with no PC in sight. It doesn't show up at all on here. Fastboot USB, or when I mount it as USB in TWRP. It does however show up as a device in recovery in terminal. But nothing on the desktop. Apple+Android do not mix well!
I'm ok with losing my data, what I'm not OK with is having to use this pink Razr while my nice phone is broken :'(
Thanks for all the help so far!
I do a factory reset from bootloader, it takes me into TWRP. Now is the only time it will even remotely show up on my laptop, and even then it's only via terminal when I do adb devices. Since it can't mount for some reason, is there a way to reformat via Terminal, and maybe even push the ROM to my phone from there? That's something I'm not familiar with.

Hey dude, I followed their advice (dug out my XP machine) and now my SD card is re-formatted.
Get into the bootloader screen, hit factory reset. (When I did this on mine, it took me right to TWRP)
From there, I mounted as USB and it showed up as needing to be reformatted on my XP machine. Took a few minutes to do on this dinosaur, but it worked, cause everything is gone!
Right now I'm in the process of zipping up the Viper XL ROM (thanks for the recommendation barondebxl, it looks awesome!), which I'll put onto my SD card and wipe/flash from there. (on my Mac now).
Hopefully it works!
I'm unable to flash ROMs for some reason. It doesn't give an error, just says that it failed. Any ideas?

No no no. This is what is corrupting your sdcard. Only do a factory reset in TWRP or once booted up. Start over and format again. Then copy over your rom.
When you and a few others mentioned doing it, what were you referring to?
I've tried three different ROMs now, and each fails without saying why in TWRP.
Problem solved! Got the stock RUU back on there and it works perfectly. Just re-rooted and unlocked again. Round two..
