HTC branded (Airtel,India) Magic 32A
HBOOT-1.33.0010
Please proceed at your own risk. These worked for me. should work for all the HTC Magics in India. Dont know about the others.
Steps -
1. Download Recovery Flasher 1.4. Backup recovery image.
2. Download Amon_RA's RAv1.2.1H modded recovery image. Copy it at root of sd card. Rename it recovery.img
3. In Recover Flasher type “/sdcard/recovery.img”
4. Download "Engineering SPL 1.33.2005".(No other SPLs worked for me). Copy to root of memory card. Rename it to update.zip
5. Download any 32a Custom ROM (I used Amon_RA's). Copy to root of memory card. Rename to ROM.zip
5. Reboot in Recovery mode. (home+power). Backup with Nandroid.
6. Apply from sd card - update.zip. Reboot from menu after it says so. It will again boot into recovery mode. Seems to be stuck on "Clearing Cache....".
7. Reboot by pressing back+power. Check SPL is changed to 1.33.2005. Then power down.
8. Reboot into Recovery. Apply any zip from SD - ROM.zip
9. Once it is finished, WIPE THE PHONE from the recovery menu.
10. Reboot into a new android world.
Never used a Gold card. Those SPL's don't seem so perfect anymore.
Thanks to Amon_RA and all other developers.
Awesome job buddy.
Already rooted mine with a goldcard. But im interested in hearing how it works for people.
Please be aware that this method (using Zinx's recovery flasher) will probably NOT work for firmwares released after August 2009...
Will the SPL 1.33.2010 work, my magic is waiting for the fix to perfect SPL, i already bricked a my touch and dont want such to appen with my new 32a

I made the RUU update from: RUU_Sapphire_HTC_Europe_2.17.401.2_HTC_Nordic_release_signed_NoDriver
to: RUU_Sapphire_HTC_Europe_2.20.401.2_HTC_Nordic_release_signed_NoDriver
when I was root on my Magic, but after that, I cant do anything custom, not even flash in any way, so my root rights are gone and can never be regained?
info before RUU:

I can't figure out what to doo, please help me, I used the My Hero ROM before RUU and loved it, and now I am stuck with the dull HTC branded ROM
Isnt there already like 4 or 5 threads saying exactly the same walk through? or am i mistaken
Hi
Now I have :

hboot 1.33.0010 sapp 10000

radio 3.22.20.17
I have custom recovery amonra 1.5.2H and Gyd2.1 ROM (without 2.1.1 update); I used the unlocker method to get root and new rom.
Will this method work for me also?

Just use Goldcard method to root... It's the only way I've found for that SPL

You have root already.
Post your adb output:
adb shell id
H:\>adb shell id
uid=0(root) gid=0(root)
Like I said, all I did till now is to use the unlockr method to get root and install gyd2.1 rom ;
I also have amonra recov 1.5.2h ;
thanks in advance for your support. Means a lot.
later edit : in another thread I already posted that I have managed to create a goldcard (sandisk 2GB) ; I guess it;s ok cause when I insert it in my laptop the pc doesn't require me to format it and it's accessible.

Functionality of using goldcard is ONLY avoiding check for Customer ID.
And now what? can I flash just the eng 2005 spl? If so, would the procedure described in post no 1(this thread) would do the trick?

As you have SPL 1.33.0010 and phone 32A you may flash rather SPL 1.33.2010 (same in my signature)

Ok, thanks for your quick reply.
So, it is enough just to get 2010 spl, boot in recovery and flash it? No gold card, no other rom flash no nothing?
Like I said before I'm using amonra recover 1.5.2h ; This sounds too good to be true

SPL is like BIOS at computer. You only flash engineering SPL via recovery and nothing more.
If you want try some custom ROMs (with SenseUi or with Droid UI) you may do it via recovery too. But beware official RUU updates and updates, which contained hboot
thank you very much for your support. I just switched to 1.33.2010 eng spl ;

I had a goldcard created just in case. All I had to do is to flash the spl from the recov menu.
worked like a charm.
From now on, can I attempt to flash any rom I want? For now I should keep away from RUUs right?
thanks again mate.

Yes. But use only Roms with tag [32A]
p.s. Cursorsense is not compatible with SPL 1.33.XXXX
yeap, I was reading the entire cursorsense thread now. I intend to update the radio and the spl to try the rom.
From spl 1.33.2010 i can simply flash 1.76 required for cursor right? and the radio also; I've read that there's a way to return to 1.33.2010 eng spl if I would like to try other roms.
What I don't understand, why this limitation to that specific spl ver from cursorsense rom? it is not based on 1.5 cupcake? This is still pretty unclear to me. Is it because of the kernel 3.x ?
Thanks again mate. You really gave me the strength to flash
Hi all,
I thought I would start a separate thread for everyone to get the proper instructions on how to upgrade to the new 6.35 radio and 1.76.2007 SPL.
Too many people are confused on the directions for upgrading. I want people to be happy with modding their phones, not angry with me.
If followed exactly, these directions will help with the issue a lot of users are having.
THIS IS FOR 32A MAGIC/SAPPHIRE ONLY!!!
IMPORTANT NOTES (THANKS XAUEIOUS!)

For everyone who is flashing to 1.76.2007 and getting S-ON in their HBOOT,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=643291
They should know that they need to use the command "fastboot enableqxdm 0" to get S-OFF back with that SPL. This information should go in your SPL + radio update post.
Also, ezterry and lbcoder confirmed the reason of SPL+radio flash bricks, and is suggesting a way to flash the SPL+radio to avoid bricks. :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=655097
In short, wipe the system and boot partitions in addition to recovery, and end with the command "fastboot reboot-bootloader"

- Turn off your phone
- Power it on into recovery (hold Home and press Power)
- Run a full nandroid backup (optional, but recommended)
- Turn off your phone
- Power it on into FASTBOOT mode by holding Back and pressing Power
- Plug in a USB cable. you should see FASTBOOT USB on the screen

Thanks a million for your support and for this thread also. I think I've read every single thread here in order to get familiar with android and what the hell is that I'm doing.
Nice job. Also, thanks everyone who is working in order to deliver high quality roms and apps.
Thanks.
Thanks main , i have flashed Radio and spl now. waiting for flashing to CursorSense xD
Hi
Maybe a verry a dumb question....but i want to ask it anyway.
I was wondering if there is another way to update the radio and SPL.
I only have Windows 7 and as far as i know there are some little problems with htc drivers and android sdk and i really don`t want to brick my phone.
Can`t we update them with Amon RA`s recovery just like we do with a new rom? (by pressing power and home button and renaming this files to update.zip and apply them?)

You don't have fastboot mode with Windows 7?
That is a good thing to know (that we can update radio and SPL under Windows 7)

Update: Sorry about it. didn't read closely the first time round.
Please help
Guys - every time I try to flash the CursorSense 0.8 ROM from the Recovery menu, my device goes into this infinite loop of rebooting....or, it will just lock-up in Recovery after a few second - and I can't do anything. If I'm lucky enough to be able to click on the "update from ZIP" menu and then select the CursorSense 0.8 ZIP file, the device just goes into an infinite loop of rebooting on me forever!!
here is what I have....I believe that I did everything correct when I upgraded. I came from a very old Recovery (6+ months old) but all the updates from the instructions I found here in this thread went perfectly. Could someone PLEASE point me in the right direction? I would be GRATEFUL!

Anyone? Thanks SO much!
UPDATE
OK - so after stopping to eat breakfast and get my head together, I realized I was NOT using the HERO version of the Recovery file. So - I re-did the steps with the HERO version of the recovery, and now at least I don't lock-up or reboot when in the recovery menu.
NOW - when i attempt to run the update with the CursorSense 0.8 ROM, it starts to find and open the package (as normal) - but then about 5 seconds into this, it stops, and the screen returns right back to the main "Recovery" menu. When I try to do it again - the same thing happens.
I'm ALMOST there...! Any suggestions on this last issue as to why the update process starts...and then abruptly stops and goes back to the main recovery menu?
Thanks again!!
UPDATE # 2
So - NO - I'm really not an idiot...but for some reason, I decided to walk through all the steps in this thread again (except for the radio update because it was done already) - and now it all WORKED! The one extra step I took was wiping my SD card (which was a basic card with NO extra partitions and I have used it to flash dozens of other ROM's without an issue) and started from scratch with that too, just in case. Well, it worked!! I just installed the CursorSense 0.8 ROM successfully and it is booting now (nice Nexus boot screen BTW).
So - thanks for letting me vent and ask for help on this thread...it made me double and triple check a few things, and bam! I got through it.
As always - this forum and you guys are ridiculously amazing!
Happy holidays

Just wondering, when you run the "full nandroid backup", do you use the recovery for the magic or the one you download for the hero?
Sorry if this seems a rather simple question to many of you, I'm brand new to this.

I'm using myHERO ROM, any harm to this?
Hi there,
I have been reading abit on gaining root access on this phone and here is my progress so far:
I have a Vodafone New Zealand HTC Magic 32B running Android v1.6 with the following SPL in the fastboot screen:
sapphire unknown 32b ship s-on g
hboot-1.33.0007 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-10
RADIO-2.22.19.26I
Jul 31 2009,15:49:25
I have managed to create a goldcard and apply this engineering spl (Engineerings SPL v1.33.2010 - ROM v2.53.707.2) by Amon_RA in hboot.
After rebooting, the splashscreen has changed to HTC and I now have Android v1.5. Everything went well, so I thought until I went back to fastboot to check on the SPL
sapphire pvt 32b eng s-off h
hboot-1.33.2010 (sapp10000)
cpld-10
radio-3.22.20.17
jun 2 2009,17:27:03
As you can see it is now s-off h where it should be g?
And the radio is now 3.22.20.17.
I understand I have messed up by applying the wrong SPL. I tried to fastboot "recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.6.2G.img", it hangs at the HTC magic splashscreen.
My questions:
What should one do to obtain s-off g and the appropriate radio?
Should one:
apply a different SPL, say 1.33.2004? < I think this is a google phone engineering SPL?
Or:
Change the radio following Amon_RA Revert to 32B Radio and ROM instructions?
The whole point of me gaining root access is to store applications on the sdcard and have a clean fast ROM.
Thank you all for your help.
p.s. Please feel free to move this thread to the appropriate forum if I have posted it wrongly.
use the 1.33.2005 engineering SPL (it says here)
Thanks for your reply excogitation.
I have managed to downgrade the radio back to 2.22.19.26I using Amon_RA method. Here is the latest HBOOT info:

I am running Amon_RA custom ROM at the moment and it is asking me to activate my T-mobile myTouch 3G phone. Now I could not use gmail because I could not activate via a t-mobile sim card.
Under Settings > About phone > Model number = T-Mobile mytouch 3G
Is there any way I could change this Amon_RA to a vodafone base? or is there anyway to activate google account via wifi like it was in Vodafone?
Thanks for your help!
Update #2
After turning off and on the phone. I am able to log onto google via wifi
Amon_RA custom ROM is fast! I am enjoying the clean v1.6 android. Way faster than the stock ROM.
Perhaps later I will try Cyanogen ROM
Thanks Amon_RA for the awesome rom!
One more question:
If I ever need to send the phone back to Vodafone - how do I revert back to the stock ROM and SPL?
flash the stock rom (either from your backup or search the web),
flash the stock splash if you have a custom one by then,
flash the perfect SPL back.
That should be it.
Dear XDA-Devs,
I went through the rooting tut @ theunlockr (http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/14/how-to-root-your-mytouch-3g/). Everything went very nice until I came to step 24. Here it says to flash the device with the 32A firmware. However I have a German Vodafone Magic (32B) device and now I am stuck in what to do next.
Can I just continue using the 32A image?
Do I have to use a special 32B image? And if yes, can you give me a link? Will it work with all the steps I have done so far?
Thanks in advance,
deradam

So from this I see that I have the "engineering SPL" 1.33.2005 on PVT 32B!
The strange thing is, that if I fastboot boot a recovery image, it only works with H builds (recovery-RAv1.2.0H.img, recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.6.2H.img) but NOT with the G builds (recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.6.2G.img). As far as I understood, it should be the other way around?!?
I really need HELP!
If H recovery works, use it lol. I have the US fender magic which should use H but will only use G recovery... So if it works, dont worry about the letter lol.
You are right where you should be at this point. Boot into recovery, put whatever rom you want on your sd card using the recoveries usb, then wipe everything, flash your rom (knowing that its the right one for your phone) then make sure you FLASH, not just fastboot boot the recovery.
THe H version is not for you to use. You Use the G Version, reflash again the ENG SPL and then the recovery.

I did flash the sappimg.zip after installing the update.Engineering-SPL-HBOOT-1.33.2005-signed.zip. So what about 2.22.xx.xx - G recovery or 3.22.xx.xx - H recovery?? After that I did only boot the recovery image, I did not flash anything. However only H boots on my device not the G version.
So what should I reflash again or do now? My final goal is to have Cyanogen Eclair on the Magic
Thanks for help!
Okay, after more reading I found out that one should just follow the full tutorial and the android will end at a "32A" level. To make it a 32B again, you have to do some aditional steps. They are described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=547133
Revert to 32B Radio and ROM :
- Download your favorite 32B ROM and copy it to your sdcard
- Download the Ion radio image from the HTC site.
- Extract radio.img from ota-radio-2_22_19_26I.zip using your favorite rar/zip program.
- Download my 32B RAv1.2.0G recovery.
- Fastboot your mobile and connect it via USB :
Code:
fastboot flash radio radio.img
fastboot erase system -w
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery recovery-RAv1.2.0G.img
- press MENU to power off! (do not reboot)
- hold HOME and POWER to boot into recovery mode
- apply update

I would stay with the 32A and not rever to 32B . you can flash fenders easy now lol
First my phone is HTC Magic, from singapore
at first it is like this when I go (volume down + power)
SAPHHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.33.0007 (SAPP10000)
RADIO-6.35.07.29
I did root using exploit method forum.xda-developers. com/showthread.php?t=756918 (delete the space to go to the link
I did it till step 7.
And I wanted to change to 2.2
so i search for post.
And they say if want to use froyo rom, I need to change SPL and Radio
then i use this guide forum.xda-developers. com/showthread.php?t=605239
I did this part (If you do not have an Engineering SPL, download 1.33.2010 and flash through recovery before starting this procedure. Flash the SPL update.zip like any other update.zip file.)
now when i volume down + power)
it is
SAPHHIRE PVT 32A ENG S-OFF
HBOOT-1.33.2010 (SAPP10000)
RADIO-6.35.07.29
and i continue using the flashboot method to change my radio
When i type it on my CMD
it goes on the process, my phone turns into white screen and CMD stuck at "writing radio"
So I took off battery
and reboot, and it stuck at boot screen. the screen with the "HTC Magic"
I tried restoring nandroid but cant work.
tried installing custom rom but cant work too.
I dont want to lose this phone.
I just got it repair and I have no warrenty already.
Please help me.
Any way to get it back to stock rom?
