Okay, Ive gone through all the port threads and there use to be links in there posting where to find the tool to port. They removed the links from there. So couple of questions, anyone know where to get the tools for this and does anyone know if you have to have linux for this to work?

Sorry if this question doesn't belong here.
I need to know where i can start to make a Custom Rom. I was searching a lot but i was not able to find anything else than the method to make roms for HTC devices using a kitchen, but i need a more general look to know what i need to know to start this project. I was reading on source.android.com but i'm not shure if that's the only material that's actually out there on this topic.
Thanks for the help.
Hey yall, so im looking for a heimdall package for the i997. I know there are many heimdall packages but im looking for a good link to download a heimdall package with separate files to combine .rfs and sbl and all that stuff. The reason is because im testing an efs file. So if you guys can help me find one ill be glad. So far the links i have found are down so please dont just tell me to google it or something because ive tried and have not find a good link.
Hmm, the official link does seem to be down at the moment. I'm sure that it will be available again at some point.:

EDIT: The developer says that his website has been messed up for a few days and is redirecting people to download from here:

Hey XDA,
I have been around for a while, gone through two phones and have had no problems rooting, flashing ROMs, etc. thanks to all of the amazing people on the site. I have come to a point though, that I am interested in learning to port ROMs (and maybe even build a ROM from AOSP, but I am taking this one step at a time). I have looked all over the Chef Central -> Android section and the Q & A section and have been unable to find a solid guide on porting ROMs from a device with different hardware than the device you want to port to. I am sorry if this has been answered elsewhere and I try to contribute as much as I can. I hope I am not inconveniencing anyone too much. If a thread already exists that can help me out, I would greatly appreciate a link, then you can close this thread.
I am only trying to port between the ATT and internation GS3s, so it shouldn't be too hard, right?
The ROM I am trying to port is PA 2.99 beta8.
Thanks,
#TekGadgt

I will give it a go! Thanks. I had noticed this one, but was unsure if it would work between devices with different hardware. I see now that it does. I will work on that ASAP. One more question though, what do you do about devices with different resolutions? I noticed the guide is for devices with the same resolution.
