remove uldr - HTC Vox

Vox has no support from its manufacturer - M$ is'nt interested too - but from volunters (thanks for you) yes
Is there any chance to remove first xip partition (uldr), so we can get additional 3-4 MB on MB store ?
Or - same size for free ram ?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How-To Verify a digitally signed file against a known serial number
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 1
Download the file you wish for your device.
(i.e. "JASJAR_WWE_20108_20301_11300_wwe_ship.zip")
Step 2
Unzip the download.
(double-click the ".zip" file and then click on "Extract all files")
Step 3
Open the directory that you un-zipped the download to.
(i.e. folder "JASJAR_WWE_20108_20301_11300_wwe_ship")
Step 4
Locate the InstallSheild setup program in the ROM folder, then right-click it and choose "Properties".
(i.e. "JASJAR_WWE_20108_20301_11300_wwe_ship.exe")
Step 5
Once the file properties is open select the "Digital Signatures" tab, then in the "Signature List" double-click the "HTCCertificates signing authority" signature.
Step 6
Once the "Digital Signature Details" is open select the "Advanced" tab then compare the "Serial number" with the known one.
(My S/N: “ec b8 10 3b e7 65 19 ba 4f 05 48 14 e3 34 97 61”)
Step 7 (Results)
If the serial numbers match then rest easy because you are using a "TRUE" Jwrightmcps ROM that has not been altered and is virus-free.
If the serial number does not match then it is not my original work and should not be used!
NOTE: I did this is case these files make it onto other sites, it will give you guys a way to tell if it is really mine or not. I will always use this serial number (ec b8 10 3b e7 65 19 ba 4f 05 48 14 e3 34 97 61) from now on to sign all my work, so please make note of it!
woohoo. Will be testing this asap
Hallo,
yesterday I changed to 2.02.00 and while having breakfast I see your new version.
Funny: I immediately changed from Virtual Earth to Google Maps.
Today I will update to your new version (downloading now) - should be easy because now I still remember all tricks to make my german MDA Pro work again
thx
good job
I have found a partial fix for the mem-leak that doesnt screw up ROM's, when i get back this evening ill try adding it to this rom and post the result.
Seriously impressed ...
Wow Jwrightmcps !!! You've outdone yourself this time. OS seems to be stable so far, phone app hasn't crashed all day , no random soft resets, password lockout solved woohoo !!!, no more memory leaks, accelerated 3D VGA graphics performance (FPSEce 54fps) :-D, and last but not least a faster start menu.
All in all, I'd say this build deserves a 9.5/10. The only remaining issue is the video call option that's been missing in all wm2006 Universal builds. Hope this gets solved soon
Thanks Jwrightmcps for an amazing job
THank you Jwright. Will be testing it soon.
Working Good so far.Tks -J.
Downloading now and will install when I get back from work. Good to see you have included 1.15 Radio as I found it greatly improved my M5000's performance. Oh and thanks for listening to people and putting google maps on.
Finished. No problems, very fast. Now I can go to work
Thx again

as it stands .. This ROM has memory leak ... imho diversion became even more than in 2.02.00 ..
Midget_1990 all hope for you
Bluetooth went off in 20 minutes! Memory down to 25 mb after a single call! Voicecommand, activesync, and all plugins disabled. Nothing installed. I'm back to Jwrightecps aku 3.2. Thanks anyway for your generous effort. No hope for 1.91.02?
How much of free program memory after soft reset is there?
lol of the world ...this rom set a new memory leak Record .. After 30 minutes of intense work has flowed 15 megabytes of memory
Memory Leak.
Hi all,
Can I first say THANKS for the great WM6 ROM.
But the only issue I have is the memory leak and was wondering does anyone have any solutions.
Also I have tried a video call and IT WORKS!!!
I just make the call from my O2 XDA Exec (With Vodafone Ireland 3G Sim) to another Vodafone Ireland 3G video phone and it works perfectly.
So not sure why people say it does not work for them.
So any updates on the memory leak problem would be welcome, once I get that sorted I think we have a 99.999% perfect ROM release.
Thanks,
Mark aka IrishLad
just flatly refused to boot ... hung in the windows mobile screen. helped HARDRESET

Are we all using the same ROM?
Someone has no memory leakage, everyone else loads.
I've just reset again (for some reason it froze on reset once) and have had it sit on 32MB storage and 26MB program memory for about an hour (no apps added).

NEW VERSION 4.1 thingonaspring.6.1.19188.REALVGA

New RealVGA ROM Based on Ranju and Darkforce's 6.1 Roms
THING_V4.1 (WM6.1 19188)
Fixed in V41
- Flashdisk 15mb - works only on G4 (ironic eh?)
- Fixed BT Pairing - my Jabra 320S actully works for once
-- if it doesn't pair first time, reboot and try again
- Fixed Skype
- New SDBUS.DLL to hopefully improve SD card support
- USB sharing of SD cards is now fixed using a modified version of Ranju's SD card driver
Base Rom NBA file - using Ranju's V7.1
- Pagepool 5.2mb, default timeslice 1ms
- using this rom as a base causes Notes sync to work perfectly, I don't know why
- Flashdisk 15mb on G3 and G4
OS
- Darkforce V1, massively modified
- Catalog, customer feedback, welcome center, fwupdate, entertainment (games), transcriber and loads more pointless junk removed
- Many OS DLL, CPL, EXE and MUI files are now modules including powerpoint, word, excel, onenote, windows live
- IE homepage set to "about:blank". saves time and RAM every time you run IE
Drivers
- a mixture of Ranju's, JWright's and my own favourites
OEM
- modified camera OEM from Ranju 7.1
- - removed unnecessary DLLs
- - made the EXE non-modular as it's unloaded from RAM on exit anyway
- - general tidy up (initflashfiles recreated, shortcuts organised a bit)
- Storage settings supporting SDHC (default), SD and USB conectivity
- - If your card does not work on first boot, switch drivers and reboot
- - If it still doesn't work, switch back and reboot again
- - I've tried 5 cards, 2 SD, 2 SDHC and 1 miniSDHC in adaptor. All worked using this switch-reboot-switch-reboot process
- My own OEMApps collection, very small with good support for 192, 128 and 96 DPI
- RealVGA (as always)
- STK (my one with low mem footprint and now with nice icons too)
- Schap's Advance Config and VOIP Settings tools
- Jwright's Network Plugin and Network Wizard OEMs
- Performance App (over/underclock - defaults to 520mhz, no over/underclocking)
- Pimbackup 2.8 by DotFred
- Laurentuis26's pocket notepad
- GSPlayer by GreenSoftware
- ArcsoftMMS (partly modularised)
- Pocket RAR by Rarlab
- VijayCandellaLite by Vijay555
- TotalCommander2 by Christian Ghisler
- XPDF
- Today screen is kept minimal to save RAM. The standard plugins are included and can be enabled on the "settings->today" menu
- TCPMP0.81 by Coreplayer team - modified to use some plugins lifted from VTAP
- - libmad.plg replaces mp3.plg for better MP3 decoding
- - new MPEG4.plg decoder
- - general tidyup of other plugins
- - frequently-used plugins (mpeg4, ac3, mp3, intel PXA renderer etc) are now modules
- Like the SYS section, the OEM section is almost totally modular
- - OEM EXEs are not modular as they will not fit in VM
- - Some DLLs are not modules, again due to limited VM space
Notes
- RGUs have been removed from this ROM. I know this annoys rom-cookers, but it makes the ROM smaller and faster for users.
- To make up for this, I've released the exact kitchen used to build this ROM, with all the RGUs intact.
Thanks
- It should be obvious by now that I owe a lot of thanks to Ranju for his recent 7.1 release
- Just to repeat, the Base nk.nba, some drivers and the updated Camera OEM in this rom are all based on his ROM and Ranju deserves credit for that work.
- The Darkforce team deserve huge applause for their work on getting a functional 6.1 running on the Uni.
- The SYS section of this ROM is a heavily optimised version of DFT V1's SYS.
- Thanks to the developers in the "Developing and Hacking" forum, Schap, Dotfred, Vijay555 and the rest of the gang
- My fellow ROM-cooks, Laurentius26, Beasty, Ranju, Midget1990, JWrightcmps, Mo3ulla and all for sharing their work with the community
- The users who eagerly test our work and keep us pushing forward
- The ops and moderators of XDA-developers.com
- The gods - bepe and mamaich, in a class of their own
- Anyone I've forgotten - not intentional I'm just absent-minded ;-)
Important notes :-
Beasty has informed me that using the flash bulb for long periods can cause the thing to burn out - so please only use candella for short periods. If you're really worried about it, disable the lightbulb key under "settings -> buttons" and assign it to some other function or <NONE>.
Before flashing ANY cooked ROM, your phone should have the latest bootloader version and be fully unlocked and SuperCID, otherwise it may lock up or crash randomly. Do this with bepe's glorious unlock tool here:-

Can you post a dialpad screenshot? How many RAM after reboot?
Ram on reboot (all today items enabled, voicecommand disabled) is 28.71mb.
Seems to be nice, will try it when i get my new batery!
What about FlashDisk?
COOOOL
By the looks of it and if it is stable, it seems this is going to be my ROM for a while. Thanks thngonaspring without you guys we Uni owners are completely lost. Keep up the good work
There's no flashdisk in this rom, sorry. Flashdisk builds of 5.2.1908 only work on G3 hardware, as far as I've seen anyhow. I wouldn't be able to test such a ROM on my G4.
can u pls post some other link than rapid share i cant download from there for some what reason thnx, i really would like to install this and check how it works
Hiya
Mamiware's been looking over the ROM and come up with some improvements.
Firstly - a better WIFIWPA fix, I used an older one so the attached one is recommended.
It's attached is as a Cab file (install onto your device, remove \windows\startup\wifiwpa link and reboot).
And as a small patch to the kitchen, just unpack the kitchenpatch_1.zip archive over your existing DEV_UNI directory.
Lastly the kitchen patch removes a junk line that mamiware spotted in the BASEAPPS RGU file. None of the junk makes it into the registry during the build process, but it's better not to have it there.

Hi there, anyone tested the A2DP on this rom?

Do it exist a malloc (memory leak) debugger for WM6?

I would like to try out which application eats the RAM in my PDA. So I would need some malloc (memory allocation) debugger. Do it exist such a kind malloc debugger for WM6?
Thanks in advance!
if you don't get hold of the source code of the applications in question, no debugger would help, let alone malloc.
try acbtaskman instead.
Thank you. I will try it.
Independently from that, I thought a sollution which replaces the malloc/free with a debugged one on the operation system side.
I was interested in this subject a while back. As I am a mere "user"
(maybe "power user" lol) as opposed to a "developer" or similar,
I didn't investigate too much; in the end I just changed my device
Anyway... Found some links to stuff,
though as my level of comprehension on subjects such as these is poor to say the least...
this could all be useless for this issue on WM6,
in fact I am aware that I could be barking up entirely the wrong tree...
just putting it out there in case someone finds it useful ...

I made some measurements. As you can see, the "i do not know who is using this memory" is directly after reboot and after 1 day using the same ca. 10 MB. This is the first secret for me. Who is using and for what this 10 MB? The second interresting thing is, that after 1 day using the op system uses 5 MB more then after the reboot.
So I think, that the statemen, that mostly the installed extra softwares causes the big memory lost is simply not true. It seems, that the op system self is a memory leak....
MEM status directly after reboot:
Total: 48.97 MB
In use: 26.80 MB
Free: 22.17 MB
filesys.exe 5172 KB
device.exe 3632 KB
gwes.exe 3204 KB

cprog.exe 1280 KB
services.exe 400 KB
connmgr.exe 224 KB
Summary: 15392 KB -> 15.03 MB
All other running applications uses ca. 1.50 MB
Lost mem: 26.80 MB - 15.03 MB - 1.50 MB => 10.27 MB
MEM status after 1 day using:
Total: 48.97 MB
In use: 32.31 MB
Free: 16.66 MB
filesys.exe 6652 KB
gwes.exe 4500 KB

ActiveSync (repllog.exe) 500 KB
tmail.exe 340 KB
connmgr.exe 288 KB
Summary: 20520 KB -> 20.04 MB
All other running applications uses ca. 1.50 MB
Lost mem: 32.31 MB - 20.04 MB - 1.50 MB => 10.77 MB
yeah somewhere on the msdn blog (my last link)...
I think the microsoft guy concedes that this may be the case.
(talking about WM5, admittedly, but still...similar CE base AFAIK, amirite?)
He advises one guy,
(who is working in a pharmacy and using his PPC for health/safety critical tasks)
to use his self-built program to reboot the device "nightly" to free up memory...bit of a kludge, innit?

Analysing RAM Usage on the device [DevHealth] - How to Change PagePool size ?

-DevHealth.exe
To get a summary of where the RAM is going on the device, you can use the comprehensive DevHealth application to create a snapshot of the memory usage on the device at any point. DevHealth.exe is available in the Windows Mobile 6 Adaptation Kit and you can run it several ways.
To run DevHealth using SD/MMC card (recommended method)
Create a folder named "2577" on an SD/MMC card.
Rename DevHealth.exe to autorun.exe and copy it to "2577" folder.
Insert the SD/MMC card into the device. This automatically runs autorun.exe from the card, which is really the DevHealth application.
To run DevHealth using ActiveSync or another method
Copy DevHealth.exe to \Windows\Start Menu folder on the device.
Run DevHealth from Start menu.
The device displays a wait cursor while DevHealth.exe is running. At the end of the process, you will have a log file named mem_N.txt, where N is the run number starting with 1 and the highest N is the latest run. The log is saved on the SD\MMC card if it is present, otherwise the log file is saved in the "\" directory of the device.
Now guys, with this tool, we can view the available Page Pool for RAM. On my vox it is 6 MB. How to change this value to say 10 MB ??
Any ideas??
Regards,
Chandan
page pool
I'd like to know how to change the pagepool, too.
On my wizard the larger pagepool made my device far more responsive.
pagepool of 10MB will not make any changes in performance.
it will just waste your ROM space.
6 MB is more than enough for Vox. Many people have found 4MB to be giving similar performance. So 6MB is a safe bet.
If you do increase it to 10MB you will be wasting 4MB of ROM.
PagePool uses RAM space and not ROM space. Yes, 6 MB is the sweet spot as suggested by Microsoft.
pagepool
So can i conclude from your comments that this has been tried?
Again, on my wizard i used a 16(!) mb pagepool with a very minimal rom. This gave me a far more responsive device. In fact, my wizard is a lot more responsive then most "high performance" wm devices such as kaisers.
Since the vox has a similar (or actually the same) processor, i was expecting similar performance.
If there was a tool to change the pagepool, as there is for the wizard, i'd be happy to find out for myself and of course post the results to this forum.
Thank you for your answers so far.
