Hello. I have a htc touch hd with default windows mobile 6.1.
It is my first pda, and I was sure I could use it almost as a PC.
What i am really missing is the possibility to videocall. I am not referring to normal videocalls...i don't need them, and i think they are not cheap.
I mean i was really sure i could make video meetings with mobile applications of skype and windows msn messenger.
I have at the moment on the PDA: skype application, default microsoft messenger application, and fring (for SIP voipstunt calls, skype and msn messenger).
Well, none can do videocalls.
I've surfed the net and everyone is asking WHY skype has not yet given the possibility to use the front camera for a videocall?
No 3rd party application exists. It is nonsense. It is no hardware problem, every pda has a camera, and the cpu power to run it, and the possibility to use a wifi hotspot downloading enough bandwidth to receive or send camera videos (if the wifi offers a good internet connection, but then it's not a limit of the phone).
So why should i NOT be able to use this camera for this purpose?
I am in japan, i have wifi almost everywhere, i don't need actually a 'phone' signal to phone, because i can do everything with internet (voipstunt or skype) and calling everybody in the world. Just this feature of the webcam for videocalls in skype is missing. Is that so heavy to run a video in 320x240 with the front camera?
i really can't get it....

well thanks but they don't allow skype nor msn management...it's still far from what many people need

Hey all,
for the PC, there are plenty of programs that you can use in order to send free SMSes. for example: ExtraSMS, ICQ and others.
Is there anything similar for the pocket pc?
Thanks a lot...
there are also sites who offer online versions of that you can try to see if you can get those to work in pIE or minimo or opera
yes crikee try that mate, device dependant
Actually, I was looking for some more convient. a program that i can link the messaging hardware button to it, thus making it very easy and more important, free...
Not sure if this helps, but......
In the UK, there are services that provide a free messaging service, kinda like SMS - take a look at http://www.tex2me.com or http://www.hotxt.co.uk
They provide a Java applet that you use to send messages to other users of the service, so there's no link to the real SMS text message application in WM....might not be what you were looking for?
Don't know of anything else; like another poster suggested, maybe your only option is to use a browser to access one of the online sites?
Mark.
think the problem is that sms is point to point cellphone network based
and gprs is the internet
somebody needs to act as gateway from the internet to the cellphone network
the cellphone the sms could be the "free" sms is being sendt to could be without gprs at all or simply offline
those free sites offer that gateway
and they most likely make money on the adds on their sites
so i'm not sure they would be happy to have people access their services without being exposed to their adds
and their interfaces are prob different from eachother so if a real application was made it would be different depending on what free sms network it would access
Does anyone know if there's a good VOIP program that allows me to use the front-camera to send video as well as normal voice?
There is the windows mobile 6 pro standered that you can install but I haven't been able to get it to work at the mo don't know if anyone can help.
I installed the WM6voip.cab and sipconfig put in the settings but it doesn't regester with my voip providers but it doe say avalible on the today home section.
Hi folks,
my first post here, this is a greaaaat forum
but let's face my problem, Nimbuz is a really great tool, but if you have the facebook account, he'll download the friends profiles photos, and when I want to see my photos in the HD2 I have those pictures downloaded.
Has anyone solved this problem yet?
yes I've noticed that too.
Solution?
Use Palringo, or pay for Im+ (which is crap). I await a truly ENJOYABLE messaging client for WM. In light of the fact that Android and iPhone OS apps seem to have so much more finger friendly and snappy apps (Nimbuzz on the iPhone is a lot nicer to use). I hope that the new year will bring with it a plethora of non-clunky, smooth and lovely apps to rival those of other OS's. Apps such as TouchTwit are a step in the right direction fo' sho'.
Hi!
I did it!
Thank you luxxa. I had this problem too and your post prompted me to try a solution. It was annoying me.
Folow the tip 64 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4935500&postcount=3 to exclude the Nimbuzz folder present in \My Documents\My Pictures\. (By the way, it's not really necessary to soft reset. You can just use Task Manager or something alike to restart only the program HTC Albums)
Open the photo albums list, select an album, and Set it as Favorite.
leoni1980, do you prefer Palringo over Nimbuzz? I tried to use it about one year ago, but I didn't understand its interface. Before I used to use Talkonaut, but it started to fail sometimes. Currently, I dare to say I like Nimbuzz. I just miss a finger scroll for it.
guys the problem is that the nimbuzz does not have a notification icon to notify if you have massage or missed call so you need to open it all the time to see if you have a massage and it only have a small beep sound
Palringo has the notification icon showing in the todayscreen if you have a massage but nimbuzz does not have this
that the only thing stopping me from using it
anyone have any solution for this ???
Nimbuzz has his advantages, for example supporting Skype..

but does not have a notification icon and cant run more that 1 msn account in the same time
And Nimbuzz collects as many personal data from you as it can get.
I would recommend to read their privacy statement. For people with a general privacy need it´s horror.
Anyone figured out how to login/logout of individual accounts. Whilst at work I prefer to have google talk on desktop and facebook & MSN on phone (nimbuzz).
I cant see anywhere in nimbuzz to logout of google talk but leave facebook and msn connected.
I much prefer Palringo but their facebook support is dodgy at best.
Hi all is there an app which allows the user to video chat using yahoo messenger, making the 3g camera a type of webcam?
Not yet...
They've not cracked the video calling yet but I recommend Parlingo for Yahoo chat.
Also supports everyone else (except Skype, only nimbuz includes them)
Sorry buddy,
I have always liked IM+ it seems to handle all my needs with chatting, and again no video is with it, like most others out there...
But it handles all these AIM, MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, ICQ, Jabber, Google Talk, MySpace, Facebook and Twitter, I think they just added Skype as well.
The best thing about this company is that they have always honored their free upgrades, and Ive switched phones 4 times and they were very supportive with giving me new reg codes.
Only flaw is that it is not free, like the above mentioned Parlingo.
can you teach me step by step process to install onto mobile phone? i,ve extracted it, and some files is come out, then do what?where should i paste it? please help, thanks
IM+ has big problems with YM... I use OZIM found on the TMOUS apps sticky and its excellent...
Use fring. it offers chat, audio and video calls on all IMs.
As most of you know the Verizon Skype app sucks because it only routes the call over Verizon's voice network (and in the latest version they let you keep your wifi on, but the app does not use it)
Iv recently found a nice app called Nimbuzz http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.nimbuzz
Nimbuzz can connect to Skype and let you use it as true VoIP, it will let you make and receive Skype called over 3G and WIFI. (your phone does not even need to be activated) And its not even limited to Verizon users. Fore free, it is the best Skype client for android (better than the official android app)
I just wanted to share my find with XDA.
great find, i know a few ppl looking for this! i appreciate the info
