Bare WM 6.5 23028 Cooked ROM with unnecessary items removed.
UPDATED on Sept 4, 2009 - 6:05 pm US Central Time
Starting with with September 10, 2009 I have decided to consolidate Bare WM 6.5 builds into only one (1) thread. I suggest you subscribe to the following thread to be kept abreast of future updates:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4469872&postcount=1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4469872&postcount=1
This ROM was cooked with the osKitchen (by OndraSter) which can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540704
The ROM follows the principle of getting rid of unnecessary items in the Windows Mobile 6.5 source files in order to make as much RAM available on my Kaiser as possible after the installation of WM 6.5. However I didn't want to 'cripple' features that I needed/wanted to have installed.
The result is a vROM that uses about 32 MB of RAM while the Kaiser is idle (and before you install your own applications). That means that you will have close to 70MB of free RAM with this cooked ROM. The size of the cooked ROM flash image (the NBH file) is: 51 MB, leaving 154 MB of storage space available on the Kaiser.
What I may consider 'unnecessary files' may not be considered the same by others. Therefore I am listing the WM 6.5 items that I removed so that you can determine if this cooked ROM fits your needs. I am also enclosing a folder titled "XXXX- Kitchen Removed Sources.zip" which will show you EXACTLY what was removed. If you miss one of the removed items, simply move it back (to the same directory) and cook a ROM.
** General overview of what was removed:
- All of the non-essential OEM and EXT applications which normally ship with "Os Kitchen". I left only the OEM and EXT items which I found to be necessary for the normal operation of the ROM on the Kaiser. If through your own testing you find that one or more are unnecessary please let me know (as I would want to get rid of it as well!)
- Ringtones and other sound files which are not necessary for the normal operation of the ROM (if you miss one or more of those files you can easily put them in an SD card and access them from there)
- All files (CPR, Images, etc.) that relate to a resolution that is not supported by the Kaiser.
- The 'Calculator' application because there is plenty of great calculators for WM PPC out there, and I don't like to have software duplication.
- All "Windows Live" related stuff, because I don't use it.
- All 'games' that come with WM 6.5 because I don't use them, and there is much better games in the marketplace.
- IPSEC related files because I don't use that type of 'virtual tunnel'.
- LiveSearch because I prefer Google.
- Unnecessary Mobile Office templates
- Remote Desktop (because I don't use that software. I prefer RDM+, which I install separately...not in the ROM)
- Task Manager (because I prefer to install Advanced Task Manager...separately, not in the ROM)
- Skybox (because I don't use Microsoft 'My Phone' and related services.)
- Skymarket (because I don't need a software store on my phone)
- All Themes except for 'Classic Blue' (because I prefer to install my own themes...separately, not in the ROM)
- VOIP (because no VOIP application comes with WM 6.5, and VOIP applications like Skype work without these files. So they seem to be a waste of space. If anybody disagrees and can explain the purpose of those files please let me know.)
- Welcome Center (Because I am experienced enough with WM 6.5 that I don't need somebody to guide me)
- All Windows Mobile Widgets (because I prefer to install my own ....separately not in the ROM).
*****
In addition to the file removals that I describe above, I made a few changes which apply to BOTH Chocolate and Vanilla Flavors of the ROM.
- I changed the boot screen back to the original HTC screen that says "smart mobility"
- I changed the animation screen back to the original HTC screen that has an animated HTC logo
- I changed the boot up sound to one that uses aprox 100K
- I changed the Windows start up screen to that of Windows Mobile 7
- I added software to fix the animation start up sound (which didn't work in the original build)
- I added software to fix the animation boot up screen (which was mixed with some other stuff that I removed)
- I added a registry entry that changes the default skin on Windows Media Player to Diamond Portrait.
- I added code to install 'Random Access' in the Contacts Screen. (allows quick access to people by clicking letter on the right margin)
- I added code to change the Start menu to a single column vertical list. I consider that MUCH more useful than the hexagon grid.
- I added a registry entry to remove the 'tap time' that is required when selecting items in WM 6.5 folders.
- I added a registry entry to allow two way phone conversations to be recorded with any 3rd party software.
- I added a registry entry to display 'Recording' in the phone menu (shows up in the menu only during a call)
- In addition the "Chocolate" flavor has these changes:
- Replaced the battery indicator for one that shows the percentage remaining (in increments of 10%), and changes color (White/Orange/Red) depending on the amount of battery remaining.
- Added Advanced Task Manager
- Replaced regular Comm Manager with a 6 item Comm Manager to replace the 3 item one that comes standard with WM 6.5

NOTE: For those who do not like the Chocolate or Vanilla flavors, I am making available the source files so that you can make any necessary changes to suit your taste. All my changes are in the EXT folder and are clearly labeled with "-PW" after the folder name. So you can choose to keep them or remove them based on your personal needs.
And here is an Spb Benchmark test on a fresh copy of this ROM. I don't know if this type of tests are trustworthy, and I have no benchmark to compare it with. All I can say is that the OS feels very fast and responsive. Don't base yourself on the benchmark. Try it and see if it works for you. It does for me.
Here are the files:
a)You can download the "Vanilla" flavored cooked ROM (which is ready to be flashed directly on your device) from here:

c) You can download the OEM, SYS, EXT, MSXIPKERNEL, and Bootup and Windows & "Bootup Start up Screens" folders (which have been purged of unnecessary items), and replace the respective folders that are in the "sources" directory of osKitchen from here:
http://www.4shared.com/file/126438245/ec6c73d8/WM_6523028_-_Kitchen_Sources.html
d) You can download the "Vanilla" flavor osKitchen configuration file (which you MUST use in combination with the OEM, SYS, EXT folders shown in item "c" to cook your ROM in osKitchen) here:

f) You can download the 'removed' OEM, SYS, and EXT folders (which you can use to verify what I removed....or to move back something that I removed but that you want) here:
http://www.4shared.com/file/126442044/4572ab54/WM_6523028_-_Kitchen_Removed_Sources.html
Enjoy!
IMPORTANT: The only thing that I ask in return for my contribution is that if you find more space savings you share them with me. I left several items in the OEM and EXT folders because I know for a fact that some of those items ARE needed for the correct functioning of critical features such as movie file playback. However some of those items may not be necessary. If you find out that they are not necessary, or you find other files in the SYS folder that could be removed without affecting performance, please let me know by posting a message on this thread.

Tips:
- After the ROM loads, go to phone settings (Start-Settings-Personal-Phone) and in the "Phone" tab select the Ring Type that you want to use. You can put Ringtones in any folder of your Kaiser and they will appear in the "Ring Type" pull down menu. I put them on external storage (SD Card) under a directory called "My Ringtones".
- Missing MMS Options. Standard Builds of WM 6.5 DO NOT come with MMS. To get MMS read other threads such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=500869.
- HTC Task Manager missing. The source files do not have the HTC task manager and I don't like it anyway; so I am keeping that away on purpose. If you want the HTC task manager please install it on your own, or cook your own version of my ROM.
- OEM/EXT folders - If you cook your own ROM using my files, you will be able to identify what OEM/EXT packages were added by me, because I follow each package with "-PW". Packages that do not have "-PW" came with the osKitchen, and they appear to be necessary for the proper functioning of the ROM, but I am unable to provide an explanation since I didn't put them together. Contact OndraSter (the maker of osKitchen) in case you have a question about an OEM/EXT package that do not have "-PW" after it.
- Aligning Screen - After you install the new ROM, remember to align the screen. You can do that here: Start - Settings - System - Screen and align your screen from there.
- Move your Kaiser configuration from an old ROM to a new one - Unfortunately the upgrade ROM feature of spb Backup doesn't seem to work properly for this new build of WM 6.5; I successfully upgraded from WM 6.5 build 23009 to 23028 using spb Backup's upgrade ROM feature, but when I tried to upgrade from 23028 to 23034 I got many errors.
- SIM Manager - Left out on purpose. Read solution here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4372512&postcount=79

Known Issues:
Small Fonts get blurry on Titanium / Today Screen, and sometimes images on Today Screen plug-ins (such as Artesea Twmr 6.5r) get distorted. - This issue has been confirmed by other people cooking WM 6.5 23028 regardless of the cook or kitchen used. It seems to be an issue related to the Microsoft code, and I am unable to fix it.

Reserved for future use by the owner of the thread. This is the last space I need.

good job ..thanks

Great Work

Downloading Vanilla

Thanks for providing this. This is exactly what I've been looking for. The base OS so I can install just the apps I want loaded and not have all the stuff I don't care about but have no way to remove.
One thing that would be nice to leave in would be the align screen process that starts up after loading the new ROM. I understand that if you're making your own ROM you can enter the alignment points into the build but when providing it for others it's kind of pain to try and get into the alignment setting when your screen isn't aligned in the first place. It's a minor thing process to go through after loading and you only have to do it once so leaving it in wouldn't be that big of a deal.

wau the available free storage is so massive compare to other 6.5 rom
i will try it over the weekend , install with m2d which is my prefer interface

I purposely didn't include the screen align screen at the start and I don't plan to do it in the future either. But that doesn't mean that you align your to fit your screen. After you load the ROM go to Start - Settings - System - Screen and align your screen from there.

Good to see somebody from KL in here! I have very good memories of the time I have spent in KL. I was there about 2 years ago leading a project at the Petronas Towers. Really like your country.

I understand you left it out on purpose and I understand how to fix it. I'm just pointing out that the settings only work for yor device and it's a pain to get to get to without having your screen aligned. Since everyone that downloads this ROM will have to run it why not have run automatically the first time it boots up?
Just a suggestion to make it a bit friendlier. It's your ROM so it's up to uou.
Thanks again for providing it.

A pain to navigate a few menus in order to align screen? I think that's a gross exaggeration. This version of WM 6.5 is finger friendly so you can navigate menus without super precision. So even if the settings are off a bit relative to your device, they will be close enough that you can navigate fairly easily.
I won't incorporate the welcome menu because they use up space and only work ONCE (during installation); so I think that between 'avoiding the pain of navigating a few menus) and having something stuck in memory that only gets used once, I favor the later.
I understand your point, but I will politely disagree.

I just want to say great Roms. I found your 23009 build a couple of days ago and thought it was great..it's just what I've been looking for! Today I upgraded to the 23028 build.
Theres 1 issue that I'm noticing in the 23028 build that I'm not sure is something with your ROM or with the build of WinMo OS itself. The issue is that I cannot setup a sync with Google to have my contacts and calendar synced to my phone. This worked fine on the 23009 build just fine. I have double and triple checked my settings with no luck. It tries to sync..but nothing is actually imported.
Just wanted to give you the heads up!
Keep up the great work!

I am afraid that I don't sync with Google. I use Microsoft Exchange and it works perfectly. What do you use to sync with Google. A third party application or an application that is built into my ROM? If it's a third party application you need to report the bug there. Otherwise perhaps somebody else reading this forum uses Google Sync and can help you.

Unable to set ringtones or "auto set" time
yet both work on 23009; so not sure why.

I set a ring tone by placing it on my SD card, tap and hold the file and it will ask if you want to set it as the ringtone. once you do this you will be able to use the "auto set" time.

Thanks for helping!

Thanks, I'll try it!

Would this be something I should get if I wanted a bare bones ROM and wanted Manilla 2D? Is that even possible or do Today screens like cHome, M2D, Moto, etc. have to be cooked in to the ROMS? If its possible, will a simple CAB do the trick to install M2D?
Thanks! Much appreciated.

I have no idea. I have never used Manilla as I don't see the need for it.

Noobs, Moderators, Members, lend me your eyes:
I come to bury redundant posts, not praise them.
The evil that redundant posts do lives after them;
The good is often interred within the thread;
So let it be with G.W.E.N.I. …………………….
UPDATE – G.W.E.N.I. Moved to Kaiser FAQ’s.
Read Below
The moderators were quick to add the information in this thread to the KAISER FAQ located at
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=KaiserFAQ#Gettingx20.Started
You can look through and read this thread if you’d like, BUT…
ALL G.W.E.N.I. LINKS IN THIS THREAD AND ALL NEWLY ADDED G.W.E.N.I. links ARE NOW in the KAISER FAQ which is located at the aboive link.
I wasn’t aware that ANYONE could edit the Wiki. Did you know that? Anyone? I have added about 35 NEW links to the Kaiser FAQ page in addition to what I have posted here. If you are familiar with how to edit that page, YOU CAN ADD YOUR OWN PROVEN SOLUTIONS. If you aren’t comfortable with that procedure, PM me your solutions and I will add them to the Kaiser FAQ page for you.
Also – I have tested the Kaiser FAQ page in terms of being able to successfully flash a phone with the fundamental functionalities, i.e. sound, camera, gps, email, etc. and can happily report back that all was accomplished without incident and done with exclusive use of the KAISER FAQ. If you get bored, try it yourself. I already have 3 times so I know that if you are reading this and you are new to flashing, go to the KAISER FAQ and The WIKI pages and SPEND SOME TIME READING THERE INSTEAD OF POSTING.
Everything you need is right there in that Kaiser FAQ – clear, concise and to the point. No commentary, opinions or suggestions – just questions and answers.

Everyone who is both new and seasoned has heard of the Wiki’s - The place to go for all of your questions on a given topic. They are the definitive resource for anyone looking to do anything to their devices. We also all know that most do not use these highly informative threads. Knowing that and depending on your perspective, it can either be good news or bad news. For someone like me, a first time smart phone owner and who also created this document, it is certainly good news as I now will now have the convenience of having most of what I need in one document. This should also cut down on A LOT of the redundant threads on here (I hope. Fingers Crossed) I won’t go into a long and protracted explanation. It should be pretty self explanatory.
This page should serve as a central repository for most things lazy. In other words, you don’t want to search, fine. The MODS and members alike do not want redundant questions either which are asked ALL THE TIME which pushes relevant threads down the list. Initially I was creating this list for myself, but I know others can benefit from it so it now has a dual purpose.
If anyone has their own known verified solutions which work and it’s not shown on my list, please post here and I will add it and update the thread and give credit to the person who posted the fix. Well, hopefully, the MODS will take notice and update the thread. I’m not sure I have that kind of access. The idea is NOT TO HAVE multiple pages in this thread. The idea IS to have ONE thread with one post containing many, many, many links to solutions that users would post redundant questions to otherwise.
I am not looking for the tier 4 level super hero technical support solutions. I am only speaking about the fundamentals. If a person cannot follow the basic instructions to flash their phone, they have no business on this forum in the first place. YOU HAVE TO POESSES THE APTITUDE AND THE FUNDAMENTAL KNOWLEDGE to be able to do this on your own. That’s why you post so many redundant questions….because you are unsure of yourself and KNOW that what you are reading is beyond your scope of comprehension. The business side of me is thinking that there is a VERY lucrative service available right here in front of the faces of those who are proficient in flashing.
Just because you got yourself a snappy new phone and have seen what others have done to it, doesn’t mean you should do the same to your phone especially if you don’t, won’t or can’t get your head around the technical side of it.
I AM SURE there are duplicates on this list worded differently. I did that on purpose because I know some of you process things ass backwards and sometimes you get lost in the syntax and will post a question because the thread didn’t match your problem exactly when in fact, inside of that thread was the answer to your question if you had only looked. And since these boards are written in English, the most powerful language in the world, whose subtle nuances will blow your head clean off, I included the same links worded a little bit differently – Make sense now?
I am certainly want to hear comments, suggestions, criticisms, opinions, etc. I am new and a noob to this board as well, but now I consider myself an accelerated noob. In light of this, if there are any MODS out there who wish to organize my list in some other fashion you think will increase its’ efficiency and impact, please fell free to do so. I have been working on this for a while and have just about had it. In my haste to finish with a few brain cells left, I may not have taken the extra care in sorting the links as orderly as I could have. I just wanted to get it up and running and see what would happen - If it would make a difference.
HOPE EVERYONE ENJOYS!!! It looks like because of the size of my posts, I will HAVE TO POST SEPARATE POSTS – SORRY
P.S. I have approximately 20 more links I am verifying and then will add it to the list.
~Gwen

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334911
I have a little issue: the tilt keyboard button mismatch: for example the combination for the symbol "!" returns the symbol "@"... almost 50% of symbols are misplaced from their screen print.
Is there a cab to restore the keyboard of HTC model?
Please find attached the keyboard of my kaiser:
I had the same problem and it was solved by this way:
Find this key: HKLM\Hardware\Devicemap\Keybd
Either delete "CWSLayout" or set it = 0
After that Soft Reset!!
CAB WON’T WORK?? TRY THIS FOR A KEYBOARD FIX
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD]

HAVING THIS PROBLEM??
With threaded SMS enabled, I received MMS, but couldn't open them so I did the SMS unthreading, but after that I didn’t receive any MMS.
The fix is to edited the registry to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Setting s\OEM\ (MMSInboxThreadingDisabled DWORD=VALUE SET TO ONE).
NEXT
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Setting s\ (MMSAvailable DWORD VALUE SET TO1) AND HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Setting s\ (MMSDeliveryNotify DWORD VALUE SET TO 0)
THEN
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Setting s\ (MMSUnicode DWORD VALUE SET TO 1) – This should fix most problems and everything should work great after (MMS/SMS)

Great Job...but ask one thing
Can we please keep this thread away from saying good job and thank you.
I am definitely not advocating that we don't praise the greatness that Gwen has bestowed upon the Kaiser Community but this thread should be kept for updating the original post by Gwen with new things that users find. I think we would all agree this will be beneficial to all.
I'm going to update my sig to include this thread. My standard reply to anyone with under 15 posts will point them to the Wiki and to this thread.

Bare WM 6.5 23009 Cooked ROM with unnecessary items removed ~ Witschey

Bare WM 6.5 23009 Cooked ROM with unnecessary items removed.
UPDATED on Sept. 4, 6:20 pm US Central Time
Starting with with September 10, 2009 I have decided to consolidate Bare WM 6.5 builds into only one (1) thread. I suggest you subscribe to the following thread to be kept abreast of future updates:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4469872&postcount=1
The cooked ROM and files that I am sharing here are based on the osKitchen (by OndraSter) which can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540704
The objective of this ROM is was to get rid of as much unnecessary items in the Windows Mobile 6.5 source files in order to make as much RAM available on my Kaiser as possible after the installation of WM 6.5. However I didn't want to 'cripple' features that I needed/wanted to have installed.
The result is a very stable WM 6.5 ROM that uses about 33 MB of RAM while the Kaiser is idle (and before you install your own applications). That means that you will have close to 70MB of free RAM with this cooked ROM. The size of the cooked ROM flash image (the NBH file) is: 54.2 MB
What I may consider 'unnecessary files' may not be considered the same by others. Therefore I am listing the WM 6.5 items that I removed so that you can determine if this cooked ROM fits your needs. I am also enclosing a folder titled "Files removed from sources.rar" which will show you EXACTLY what was removed.
- IRDA because the Kaiser doesn't have infrared functions.
- LiveSearch because I prefer Google.
- .Net 2.0 framework, because I install another version that contains 2.0 & 3.5
- Unnecessary Mobile Office templates
- Remote Desktop (because I don't use that software. I prefer RDM+, which I install separately...not in the ROM)
- TaskManager (because I prefer to install Advanced Task Manager...separately, not in the ROM)
- Skybox (because I don't need to have a software store on my Kaiser)
- All Themes except for 'Classic Blue' (because I prefer to install my own themes...separately, not in the ROM)
- VOIP (because no application comes with WM 6.5 for VOIP, and therefore the files just wastes space)
- Welcome Center (Because I am experienced enough with WM 6.5 that I don't need somebody to guide me)
- All Windows Mobile Widgets (because I prefer to install my own ....separately not in the ROM).
*****
In addition to the file removals that I describe above, I made a few changes.
The following changes apply to BOTH "Vanilla" and "Chocolate" flavors of the cooked ROM:
- I changed the boot screen back to the original HTC screen that says "smart mobility"
- I changed the animation screen back to the original HTC screen that has an animated HTC logo
- I changed the boot up sound to one that uses aprox 100K
- I changed the Windows Startup screen to that of Windows Mobile 7
- I added software to fix the animation startup sound (which didn't work in the original build)
- I added code to re-install the Hexagon background in the start menu, which recent version of WM 6.5 have removed.
- I added a registry entry to remove the 'tap time' that is required when selecting items in WM 6.5 folders.
Screen shots of the "Vanilla" Flavor are here:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
The following changes apply ONLY to the "Chocolate" flavor of the ROM:
- I added an application called 'Ariel Battery' which starts up automatically upon bootup and sits on top of the Start button showing battery in graphical and percentage mode)
- I added Advanced Task Manager
- I added a 6 item Comm Manager to replace the 3 item one that comes standard with WM 6.5
Screen shots of the "Chocolate" flavor are here:
Here are the files:
a)You can download the "Vanilla" flavored cooked ROM (which is ready to be flashed directly on your device) from here:
http://www.4shared.com/file/125327545/a0cd769e/10017_-_RUU_Signed.html
b) You can download the "Chocolate" flavored cooked ROM (which is ready to be flashed directly to your device) from here:
http://www.4shared.com/file/125318988/6410d6cd/10018_-_RUU_Signed.html
c) You can download the OEM, SYS and EXT folders (which have been purged of unnecessary items), and replace the respective folders that are in the "sources" directory of osKitchen from here:
http://www.4shared.com/file/125334762/20ced38f/Sources.html
d) You can download the "Vanilla Flavour" osKitchen configuration file (which you MUST use in combination with the OEM, SYS, EXT folders shown in item "c" to cook your ROM in osKitchen) here:
http://www.4shared.com/file/125313279/4fdb9274/v10017.html
e) You can download the "Chocolate Flavour" osKitchen configuration file (which you MUST use in combination with the OEM, SYS, EXT folders shown in item "c" to cook your ROM in osKitchen) here:
http://www.4shared.com/file/125313240/1d2a7913/v10018.html
f) You can download the 'removed' OEM, SYS, and EXT folders (which you can use to verify what I removed....or to move back something that I removed but that you want) here:
http://www.4shared.com/file/125338650/aef934ef/Files_removed_from_sources.html
g) "List Start Menu" is a great replacement for the 'Honey Comb" start menu which is included with these ROMs. I made adjustments to the application, and I am using it personally EVERY day. I am never going back to the 'Honey Comb' start menu. To see if it fits your needs, see screen shots and download the installation cab go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4351597&postcount=47
KNOWN ISSUES:
1) Missing Notes application prevents note taking during phone conversation. This issue was reported in post #2 - SOLVED
2) The "Wireless LAN" menu choice (available when selecting "settings" inside of Comm Manager) doesn't work. This issue was reported in post #26 - SOLVED
3) Missing MMS Options. Standard Builds of WM 6.5 DO NOT come with MMS. To get MMS read other threads such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=500869. This issue was reported in post #41 & 47 - SOLVED
4) Can't change the sound made when opening / closing keyboard. Look for SlidingSound.exe in the Windows directory. I will incorporate a shortcut to this application in a future release. - PENDING
This issue was reported in post #33 - SOLVED
Welcome here bro.
How is it when you removed Notes and you click while incall on Notes? Because in default it opens Notes with some predefined layout and caller name.

Thanks for the heads up. I re-installed notes, and the files shown in post #1 reflect the fix. So this is no longer an open issue.

Thanks. No, I have never used Android on the Kaiser. I was tempted, but all the posts I read states that many things don't work yet; so I passed. Have you?

yeah just started recently using it, was thinking of flashing a super light rom to see if there is a noticeable speed increase in android, the hero android rom i pretty buggy still but is coming along nicely, graphically it looks really good, android with wifi is excellent, bt and camera doesn't work on either tho
This could be interesting. I too hate all the extra stuff in the phone that I never use. I'm going to try it. My biggest complaint about WM is the threaded SMS -- it seems over time it takes longer and longer to load messages. I think im going to try your rom.

This is exactly what I want!! I was going to try to develop a very similar ROM but you've done all the work for me! I have so much junk on my phone that I don't use, so this will be perfect. I'll flash it tomorrow, then load of spb mobile shell, pocketplay, iGO, a few others and I should have a nice clean setup for once!
btw, great post. easy to understand and all the files are very helpful.
Awesome...
just Awesome.. thank you very much

I used Spb Mobile Shell 3.01 when I was using WM 6.1, but after switching to WM 6.5 I realized that if I put a little bit of work on the WM 6.5 Today Screen (Titanium) I could completely get rid of spb Shell, saving some RAM in the process and some confusion as well.
I encourage you to give the new Today screen a shot. I use the following plugins on my WM 6.5 today screen:
Clauncher - You can get 3 Launchers (for up to 9 applications) from the first post, and an additional 3 Launchers (which I created) on post 163 (page 17)

Comm Manager

Titanium Notifications - The original one had some bugs. I fixed it. Get it from post #146.

Your question is not easy to answer because it depends on how you use your device. The battery will drain quickly if:
- You keep the light on all the time.
- You are constantly connected to MS Exchange.
- You do a lot of web browser use or play a lot of music/video files.
- You keep the 3G connection on all the time (I switch to GSM/EDGE most of the time and only use 3G when I really need it)
- You keep both GSM/EDGE or 3G on while also having WiFi on.
So I am afraid I can't answer your question. For me battery life is not an issue as I put the phone in the charger every time I don't use it. I even have a charger in the car for while I am traveling.

Bare WM 6.5 Cooked ROMs with unnecessary items removed ~ Witschey (Now build 23071)

Bare WM 6.5 ROMs with unnecessary items removed ~ Witschey.
UPDATED on Sep 20, 2009 - 11:55am US Central Time
At the request of several members I am going to release all future versions of my Bare WM 6.5 ROMs on the same thread. This first entry on the thread will serve as the index, pointing you to the right page on the thread for the version you want.
ROM Objective
The ROM follows the principle of getting rid of unnecessary items in the Windows Mobile 6.5 source files in order to make as much RAM available on my Kaiser as possible after the installation of WM 6.5. However I didn't want to 'cripple' features that I needed/wanted to have installed.
What I may consider 'unnecessary files' may not be considered the same by others. Therefore for each ROM I am listing the WM 6.5 items that I remove, so that you can determine if this cooked ROM fits your needs. I am also enclosing a removed sources folder which will show you EXACTLY what was removed. If you miss one of the removed items, simply move it back (to the same directory) and cook your own version of my ROM.
Kitchen Used
All of the ROMs shown here were created with osKitchen (by OndraSter) which can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540704
Rules of this thread
Since this thread will be used for the discussion of multiple versions of the WM 6.5 Bare ROM, I ask you to please state exactly which build of my Bare WM 6.5 ROM you are using, and I encourage you to please keep up with the new releases, since a lot of bugs are fixed in the most recent builds. No bulling or policing allowed in this thread. As the owner of the thread I will be the one that moderates the thread and when things get out of control I will call the xda-developers moderator/administrator. If you are one of those people in xda-developers who likes to police threads stay away from my thread. If somebody asks as questions that has been asked before either ignore the question or provide the person with a link to the answer post. DO NOT be rude with him/her. This thread is meant for people like myself who want to learn without being harassed or policed by those few xda-developer users who are seeking for trouble.
What I expect from YOU!
The only thing that I ask in return for my contribution is that if you find more space savings you share them with me.

Bare WM 6.5 23409 Cooked ROM with unnecessary items removed ~ Witschey.
UPDATED on Sep 4, 2009 - 3:30pm US Central Time
Please read the overall description on post #1.
The result is a ROM that uses about 32 MB of RAM while the Kaiser is idle (and before you install your own applications). That means that you will have close to 70MB of free RAM with this cooked ROM. The size of the cooked ROM flash image (the NBH file) is: 51 MB, leaving 154 MB of storage space available on the Kaiser.
- Microsoft Tag software because I don't use it, and you can install that on your own if you need/want it.
- Zip viewer (because I prefer to install my own compression/decompression software)
- Microsoft Auto Data Configuration (before I don't need MS to configure my data. I do that manually).
- Lock Screen Media player icons and images (because that feature of WM 6.5 has not been enabled by Microsoft yet)
- Time Bomb removed. You can enjoy this ROM for as long as you like.
In addition to the file removals that I describe above, I made a few changes:
- I fixed the lock screen background wallpaper alignment.
- I changed the lock screen layout so that the lock slider is at the bottom and the time/appointment at the top.
- I changed the background image of the soft bar so that it has same looks as in previous WM 6.5 versions (I don't like the gradient - greyish bar)
- In addition the "Chocolate" flavor has these changes:
- Replaced the battery indicator for one that shows the percentage remaining (in increments of 10%), and changes color (White/Orange/Red) depending on the amount of battery remaining.
- Replaced regular Comm Manager with a 6 item Comm Manager to replace the 3 item one that comes standard with WM 6.5
Screen shots of the "Chocolate" flavor are here:

- This version of my ROM will have NO vanilla flavor because there is not enough demand for it. Most people download the Chocolate version which is also the one I use.
NOTE: For those who do not like the Chocolate flavor, I am making available the source files so that you can make any necessary changes to suit your taste.
Here are the files:
a) You can download the "Chocolate" flavored cooked ROM (which is ready to be flashed directly to your device) from here:
http://www.4shared.com/file/130267025/501249af/ROM_-_v23409_-_C_-_1.html
b) You can download the OEM, SYS, EXT, MSXIPKERNEL, and Bootup and Windows & "Bootup Start up Screens" folders (which have been purged of unnecessary items), and replace the respective folders that are in the "sources" directory of osKitchen from here:
http://www.4shared.com/file/130267970/52de72ea/Sources_-_23409.html
c) You can download the "Chocolate" flavor osKitchen configuration file (which you MUST use in combination with the OEM, SYS, EXT folders shown in item "c" to cook your ROM in osKitchen) here:
http://www.4shared.com/file/130255948/9a811b40/Configuration_Files_-_v23409_-_C_-_1.html
d) You can download the 'removed' OEM, SYS, and EXT folders (which you can use to verify what I removed....or to move back something that I removed but that you want) here:
http://www.4shared.com/file/130257293/1ea19bef/Removed_Sources_-_23409.html
The source files do not have the HTC task manager and I don't like it anyway; so I purposely didn't install it.
- SIM Manager - Left out on purpose. If you want one, read here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...2&postcount=79
- Migrating all your programs and settings - To migrate all your programs and settings use spb backup 2.0.2. Just make a backup of your Kaiser just before upgrading to this new build of WM 6.5, and after you install the ROM go to the place where you saved the backup and execute the file. Soon after you execute the backup file spb Backup will tell you that your ROM doesn't match and suggest that you use the "upgrade ROM" feature. Do it. If the restoration gets 'stuck' don't worry, it is normal. Just soft reboot your device and execute the same backup executable. This time it WILL finish. That's it. WARNING - DO NOT include Resco Keyboard Pro in the restoration. Resco keyboard is incompatible with build 23034 of WM 6.5 (see 'Known issues) below.
Known Issues:
- Small Fonts get blurry on Titanium / Today Screen, and sometimes images on Today Screen plug-ins (such as Artesea Twmr 6.5r) get distorted. - This issue has been confirmed by other people cooking WM 6.5 23028 regardless of the cook or kitchen used. It seems to be an issue related to the Microsoft code, and I am unable to fix it. All ROMs out there will experience the same problem.
- Dialog boxes of WM 6.5 have an unfinished selection circle as stated by me in the following post (picture also available) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4385259&postcount=434. This is related to the Microsoft code which is not yet finalized. All ROMs out there will experience the same issue.
- Sashimi 8.0 Auto function doesn't seem to be able to select the storage card during the auto install process of cabs, which results in all software being installed on the main memory of the Kaiser. This is provably related to the 'under the hood' changes that Microsoft incorporated in this build. I have reported the problem to the Sashimi developer, but I haven't received a reply and he/she hasn't updated Sashimi.
- spb Keyboard Pro 5.22 - This new build of WM 6.5 is NOT compatible with spb Keyboard Pro v. 5.22. The installation seems to go OK, the logo on the toolbar changes to the spb keyboard logo, etc. However the keyboard can not be opened and other windows mobile 6.5 build 23034 applications stop working such as file manager. This is a know issue. I have reported the issue to the developer and they plan to update the software AFTER Microsoft releases the WM 6.5 (said to be Oct 1st). I recommend using FingerKeyboard 2.1 instead. That is my favorite keyboard. To that keyboard as the default use SKTools. Here is the link to get FingerKeyboard 2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=501122
- Top Taskbar - It expands on this build ONLY on the Titanium screen, and the expansion does not work anywhere else. This is a known issue with this build and it is like that per Microsoft design. We hope that they fix that in a future build. All ROMs made from this build experience the same problem.
- X Button - The X button in the bottom bar minimizes (does NOT close) the applications. This is a known issue which comes from Microsoft's design. Therefore all ROMs made from this build of WM 6.5 will experience that issue. If you want to close to be able to quickly close applications instead of minimizing them, you should consider installing the e-Natives Showcase task manager. This application overlaps a close button on top of the taskbar (top bar), which only shows up when you press the top right hand corner. You can read more and download from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530564
Fixes / Improvements:
- I have put together a cab file to improve the looks of the Classic Blue Pivot Background and Pivot Arrows. All you need to do is install the cab file in your system and do a soft reset to see the changes reflected in your device.
Here is a screen shot of what the improvement looks like, and below you will find the cab file.

Sorry for the delay in posting the download links, but uploading these big files takes a bit of time due to the slow servers of the download provider. I also had problems with xda-developer. The website kept on giving me connection errors. But anyway, links are up and everything's ready for you to start downloading. Enjoy!
An absolutely great! rom. Thanks, love the new look and feel. An upgrade to the 23037 build.

This ROM's WM 6.5 files were customized to work ONLY for QVGA devices (in another words ALL the non QVGA files were removed). The ROM directory of the kitchen and the MSXIPKernel directories are provably device specific. I am not sure about the details because I normally grab the source files from people who have a lot of experience on this topic and make the files available for cooks like me on other forums of xda-developers.
If you are an experienced cook, and your device has QVGA resolution then you could perhaps download the 'sources' directory and use the SYS folder (which contains the Windows 6.5 files). However you would need to get the MSXIPKernel and ROM files from somewhere else; so that would provably defeat the purpose of downloading the files from this thread.
So the safest bet would be to search for the ROM of your liking inside the tread of your own device (in your case Treo 750).

I have never seem a hard ware button for the comm manager. Can you please indicate me exactly what you mean?
There IS a shortcut for the comm manager. You need to go to the start menu, select settings, connections and in there you will find 'comm manager'. It works perfectly on my Kaiser.
@ather
I guess you were used to that you had on one key Comm Manager right?
Now if you want it here too, go to Settings => Personal => Buttons and add it to the key ya want.
Sort order of the Start Menu
Just upgraded to this ROM from you last and so far really liking it. Might be a dumb question but can you sort the Start menu alphabetically? I created a new folder called Applications and moved the links to all the apps I installed into it. Trouble is Applications is located at the very bottom of the start menu, below System Tools. Pressing the link brings up the 'action menu' animation but no menu. (Typically you'd get a menu to move to the Top, or to the bottom). Is there a way to fix that?

Yes, you can sort anyway you like; but unfortunately Microsoft hasn't included any automatic sorting options (would be nice...hope they are reading so they implement them).
To sort what you need to do is use a drag and drop approach. Basically you should use the stylus to select a program shortcut (or folder) of your choice. Select it from the top edge. After pressing for a bit you will notice somehow that it has been selected. Then drag the stylus (without lifting from screen) to any place you want. You may need to repeat several times if you want to lift way higher than what you see on the screen.
It takes a bit of practice to get the 'hang' of it, but very quickly you will manage the drag/drop of the start menu and be able to move items around very quickly.
Hey there...Long time flasher, first time poster. Weird question I have, but, my issue is pretty minimal..great rom by the way! More often than not, when I close apps, using the close button of course, they don't really close, they stay open, and I only end up finding out through task manager that they really didn't close. Any reason for this or possibly a fix? Thanks!

Descriptions:
1. This is a "little clean" ROM for HTC Universal.
2. Free RAM is about 24MB with PIMs loaded (25-26MB without PIMs loaded), amount of free RAM will varry depends on how much PIMs (contacts, messages, softwares, etc.).
3. Free main storage is about 35MB.
4. ROM contains only standard packages from microsoft and some additional tool/software, so I think screenshot is not necessary.
If you need additional applications, please install it by your self.
5. This ROM is XPR compressed & I applied a file system filter taken from Raphael into this ROM (the function is similar to harddrive write cache on your windows PC), which has advantages & disadvantages (considering that it was intended for Raphael).
This only affect main storage. So if suddenly the device stops responding (hang up), the data that will remain is only the data saved after device entering the last suspend mode.
This means the new data will be written after the device entering suspend mode.
If you want to manual softreset your device, make sure to enter suspend mode for about 15sec & turn it on again before you do a softreset.
6. This ROM has been tested for about two weeks on a 64MB G3 & G4 device.
ADDED:
- Office 2010 with OneNote => Only on Release_v2 ROM..
- Macromedia Flash Player 4 plugin
- .NETCF 3.5
- TwCen font
- Some ringtone from Tomal's kitchen
- Advanced Configuration Tool v3.3
- Arcsoft MMS 5.0.27.63R1
- Battery percentage
- BT BPP 1.6.8.0
- BT FTP 1.2.33281.91
- BT SAP 3.1.0.0R2
- hc4_inbox
- HomeScreen++ (without clock)
- Added some DLL package from Diamond, Elfin, Mega, & Raphael
- SD Settings
- Performance applet
- PPC PIM Backup
- Oxios Hibernate
- PocketRAR
- RegEdit
- SmileySMS
- SRSWOW HD
REMOVED:
- Autoupdate
- Catalog
- Entertainment
- FirmWare Update (replaced with a dummy)
- RemoteDesktopMobile
- SampleMusic
- Software Quality Metrics (replaced with a dummy)
- Transcriber
- VoIP
- WelcomeCenter
- WindowsLive
- WindowsLive IM
*Known problems/limitations:
- Power point & Share point isn't work..
- The Auto kill process feature on HTC Task Manager default threshold is set to 9MB, could be annoying for some people.. To disable or re-adjusting threshold, open the Advanced Config utility then enter the desired threshold (or disabled it) under HTC Task Manager menu.
- If you experience problems with this new build eg. GSM stop responding (it's not totally hang up, but something like no signal, or you have a good signal reception but you can't make a call/sms neither connect to inet) please do some experiment on changing your radio ROM until you find the version that can work flawlessly with this OS build. Because both of my device has a problem of this, one of it can only work with 1.09 radio and the other one can only work with 1.17 radio.
*Additional info:
- If you aren't use the kitchen and you wanna change the PP, simply convert the "NK.NBF" file into "NK.NB" file via 'HTC64', then use 'PPCH' to program the desired PP, then convert it back to "NK.NBF" file via 'HTC64'.
- If you are using the kitchen, simply change the value of "PP" into your desired size.
- When building ROM using this kitchen, don't forget to check "Real WM6.5 AKU" option, & change "IMGSTART" value from '0' to '350000' under "OTHER" tab..!
- Just ignore whatever error messages that 'HTC64' gave you...
- WPA encryption is now supported.. See post #46 for details...
Instruction for flashing:
1. Make sure that your device is CID unlocked.
2. Fully charge your device by using AC adaptor.
3. Run "ROMUpgradeUt.exe"
4. DO NOT do a hardreset after flashing.
5. DO NOT do anything with your device while it's booting until you see Welcome screen (in fact, don't touch your device at all).
6. After calibrating the screen, now you can do anything.

3. EXT Build
4. SYS Build
5. XIP Build
6. ROM Res
7. ROM DPI
8. Real WM6.5 AKU
9. Other
After clicking on "OTHER" button, change the "IMGSTART" value from '0' to '350000'.
Then if you wish, you can change Pagepool size by changing value on "PP" (default is 6MB).
Next, click "CLOSE" to go back to main screen.
If you wanna enable/disable package included from building process, simply double click on package that you wish to include/exclude from ROM..
Click "CREATE" button.
Wait,,wait,,& wait... Just be patience OK!
When the kitchen is finished creating "OS-New.NB" file, the HTC64 window will popup.
Click "ENCODE" button.
Select project file (nk.prj) to open. => It's located under "%path%\EVK_182\TOOLS" folder.
Next, a warning message window will popup.
Just IGNORE that warning message by clicking on the "OK" button..!
Don't worry, it wouldn't harm your device (if you have the right ingredient on XIP part.. Otherwise, you guess it..)..
Next, click "Encode".
If there're no somethings wrong, a message window saying "Encode Successful" will popup.
Click "OK", then click "EXIT" button.
Well done, you've just created your own custom ROM..

Let us know more about this ROM!
Cool!!!
test on g3, thanks!
its definitely working with G3. fast n stable too wit spb ms. one problem encountered thou, wifi asking for predetermined number of key and cant connect with pre-configured wireless router...
Ya you're right, & thank you very much. But unfortunately I don't have enough spare time to find solution for that. I don't even have time for continuing make EVK to work with universal. Too much office work lately, & less sleep time too.
Perhaps I'll upload the kitchen (based on Luca's kitchen), so everybody can build his own style ROM, & hopefully will find solution for that. How about that?
Sounds good, please let us know any advance on your work
I regret there is not flash disk
OK,,kitchen attached...
Check out 1st post for download link, and 2nd post for tutorial using this kitchen...
@teddybear3k: Yes,,there is NO flashdisk. Because I don't like it..
Great!!! Thanks!!!!
I'm trying to cook a 23518 build and i've a question...
you say that 6.5 nk is in the kitchen... can i select modules instead of files selecting SYS packages to the compilation?
3 days test, feedback
with kitchen uploaded (wit big thnks to Shadow of course) i think more chefs will be forthcoming making this feedback moot nonetheless, for those who want to know, here it goes....
overall performance, commendable.... no freeze/hang experienced. fast and stable though a bit lesser ram (11-7Mb) compared to other light/vanilla roms available.
tested with add'l apps installed:
spb ms 3.5
ezmoney
fingerkeyboard2 (w/o arrows)
pbar
PIM's status:
581 contacts; 2397 appointments; 189 call logs & 2698 messages (i keep it available for ready reference )
on the otherhand, some minor glitch observed...:
wifi key as earlier reported - solution? i reconfigured my router
battery status (both on pbar indicator and system setting) indicates low but changes after a second or 2..
wit smiley sms enabled, it will cause not to open other messages..
cheers..

Yes, the batt status takes about 2sec for refresh after it's suspended state.
And can you explain further about can't open other messages while smileysms is enabled?
And thank you very much for your report & feedback..
smiley
sms threaded mode wit smiley enabled
you can view the messages on top of the list but most often you will not be able to open other messages anymore. the application seems to be not responding after opening the most recent sms.
nevertheless, sms works perfectly after i disabled the smiley...

Can`t download it.
Ok... here's my report.
I'm using T-Mobile MDA PRO.
1. Boot up are fast.
2. Running apps. are fast too (big 'page pool' ?)
3. Never happen to hang up.
4. Error when try to manually change the Band from GSM to WCDMA, I have to use apps . call 'BandSwitch' to force it so it can switch the Network Band from GSM to WCDMA or opposite.
5. The Sim Tool Kit Service are work too (first I thought it can't, but then when I change the SIM Card, it works, and then I realize that my main card are not supporting this Operator Service ).
6. I never try WiFi, so I can't tell anything about it.
7. I like the Home Screen ++ (more like 'Battery Status' ?), but why do you remove the Clock?
So far this is the best ROM I ever used, think I'll keep using it.
So, keep up the good work, Juragan !
Ok, that's all..

1. What for? It's already configured to auto mode. So the device can be automatically switch beetwen GSM & UMTS.
2. Because I don't like a clock filling my desktop..
And thanks for your report..

Not the Auto switching, coz I prefer to do it manually (which is to set my Network Band to WCDMA always, WCDMA is most faster in download rate than GSM - apalagi gw pake Matrix yg cepek/month pelan banget dahhh... ).
And I try it manually in the Phone Setting menu, then it says 'Unable to switch...' so I decide to using 'BandSwitch' apps.
Added new build of WM6.1 (build 21057)...
Added the new build of WM6.1 (build 21057)..
Overall,,fells better than the 21056 build..
Tested for about two weeks on two G4 device only,,because I don't have any G3 device..
*change log from my old ROM (21056):
- PP changed to 6MB
- Small adjustment on XIP part to get it work with this new build
- Something I can't remember (I love to forgot something)
*Known problems/limitations:
- WiFi can only work with Open/Shared/WEP (64 & 128bit) encryptions only, no support for WPA/WPA2 encryption
- If you are using the kitchen, before convertion process from "OS-NEW.NB" into "NK.NBF" via 'HTC64' tool, simply cancel the convertion and use 'PPCH' to change the PP and convert it to 'NK.NBF' file.
- When building ROM using this kitchen, don't forget to check "Real WM6.5 AKU" option, & change "IMGSTART" value from '0' to '350000' under "OTHER" tab..!
- Just ignore whatever error messages that 'HTC64' gave you...
Please go to #1 post for download address..
Thanks..

[SCRIPT] Energy XDA_UC Configuration Tools (EXCT) V1.1.1 Final

This is a little project i've been working on and i thought it was ready enough to be released into the wild. Below is the readme file. I think it covers everything for now. Before posting please read the first 3 posts - especially post 3 - if it is obvious that you haven't done this i will not respond with any form of help and i don't not expect any of the users to do so either.
----------
Included with this zip file are several .cab, .reg and .xml files that will automatically configure your NRGZ28 energy rom when XDA_UC runs upon first boot after flashing.
Included are the following configuration files
activesync.xml
This will configure your MS Exchange settings. Editing with your personal settings is required. Look for the username, server, domain and password tags at the start of the file
aGPS.reg
Enables aGPS
BackLight.reg:
Sets backlight to auto. There are some other settings included for dim and light off times when on battery and AC power aswell
bt_ident.reg
Sets the Bluetooth Identity. Edit the deviceid line to suit
copy.mscr
Copies files from the copy2root folder to the matching location in device storage. A My Documents folder with My Ringtones and My Wallpapers sub folders have been created already. Place you ringtones and wallpapers in these folders. There is also an application data folder which contains a coreplayer config.xml and a program files folder which contains a myPlayer options.ini. Feel free to create more. Thanks to nrfitchett4 for providing this script.
Del.mscr
This file will remove all unwanted ringtones, wallpapers and any other files you decided to add. Edit as you need to. N.B any readonly files will need attributes changed before they can be deleted.
DisableSenseVsync.cab
Disables Vsync in sense increasing the framerate thus making it faster
HD2MemTweaks.cab
Increase's glyphcache size past the bsb tweaks and advanced config defaults, incrases filesystem cache size and a few other bits. This cab file is optional. Delete it if you don't want it. Thanks go out to g.lewarne for documenting the tweaks
HTCAlbumIgnore.reg
Stops the sense music player playing ringtone files from \My Documents\My Ringtones\ and \storage card\ringtones. Copy the examples
if you want to add to it.
M3PH HTC Location Service Enable.cab
Enables HTC location Service and automatically excepts the TOS
ident.reg
Changes the phones identity at first boot. If NRGZ28 won't make it sensible i'll make it so we can customise it . Editing required. this one is pretty obvious
Palringo.reg
Sets up palringo, sorta, change [email protected] to your user name and it should show up at sign in. All you need to do is enter your password
QuickGPS.reg
Enables and configures QuickGPS with the defaults
Ringtones.reg
Configures the ringtone, sms tone and email tone. Needs some editing but you only need to change the file name for each entry, not the
path. The Ringtone2 entry allows for second ringtone to be added to the list of usable ones so you change them with too much fuss.
Also enables flashing light on sms reception for 5 minutes.
wifi_setup.xml
wifi settings. Edit required. This link should help you set it up (see post 3 for details on how to edit)
M3PH Enable Time Auto Update.cab
Enables NTP
Volume.Reg
Sets the volume levels. You can use this one or export your own from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Volume
Windows live.reg
Pretty much configures windows live. You do still need to enter your password and you will also need to do atleast one manual sync before Sense will create the mailbox on the email tab but otherwise it works
Opera User Agent String folder
See the readme.txt in that folder
Sense Folder
If you put your wallpaper in this folder it will be installed as the sense default. Just rename it to sense_wallpaper.png.
Start Menu folder
Copy Start Menu shortcuts here

Change Log
Change Log:
1.1.1 Final
Removed Keyboard sensitivity tweaks
Removed opera memory tweaks
Added more palringo settings
Added Quick shutdown settings
1.1 Final
Updated volume.reg to default to seperate system and ring volume controls.
Removed all tweaks now included in Energy roms dated nov30 and newer. I will leave v1.0 posted for a while so people that like to install older versions still get the benefit
1.0 Final
Added Windows_live_settings.reg. You will need to edit it as prescribed on page 16 but it will work.
Added Improved GPS settings.cab. This is untested by me but i trust scabes24 enough to know he's not going to pass on unreliable tweaks
Improved M3PH Location Service enable.cab: Added an extra registry setting that should trigger Manila to showing it's on. This is doubtful but even if it doesn't the file does work
Added alarm_settings.reg: This is only an example file. You will need to export your own settings but this should be a reasonable starting point
Removed readme.txt: It was a habit a picked up from Linux development practices and was pointless for this project
Removed time.reg permanently because there is nothing changed in the registry when it is enabled.
--- Pre Final releases
Tips and Tricks
What follows are some tips and tricks i have found that i'm not going to include for whatever reason but thought some people might find handy or notes on what settings do what and their options.
Q. Can i delete file xyz using xda_uc because i like to have as much space as possible?
Yes you can. i found this link. All you need to do is create a file in the xda_uc folder with the extension .mscr which contains the following:
Code:
delete \test.txt, TRUE
or
Code:
deltree \test, TRUE
Obviously change test to the file or directory you want to delete. For more details check out the provided link above.
Q. The default wifi.xml doesn't match my configuration and i can't find a resource that tells me what are valid values for the options?
A. See this link and this one. As a note if you use WPA2 you need to use <parm name="Authentication" value="6" /> and WPA2-PSK is 7
Q. The exchange settings in activesync.xml aren't how i like them. Can i change them?
A. Sure can! Here's a link to the documentation
Q. I use a [enter service name here] and i want to create an xml file to configure it when i update my rom. Can i do this?
A. Thanks to microsoft developing WAP provisioning to an incredibly encompassing level you can do almost anything. See this link
Q. I want to make a cab file out of all my changes. How do i this?
A. There are many ways but i think this is the best one i've found because it doesn't involve any third party software and is really simple. All you need is the windows mobile sdk, which can be found here. You may also need visual studio but i'm not sure
Making either is very simple. You just pass a normal XML file to makecab and give it the name of the output file you want. The one trick is that the XML file must be named _setup.xml. If you call it something else, makecab will succeed, the CAB or CPF file will be generated fine, and then it will fail with a cryptic error when you try to use it. Beware, the documentation doesn't make this very clear.
The syntax for making a CAB file is:
Code:
makecab _setup.xml config.cab

Click to collapse
Q. Wow you really do know a lot about this sort of stuff. How can i learn?
A. Well i don't know that much at all really, i just learn fast. Most of the stuff you see here was obtained from or via this MSDN article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc500581.aspx
Q. Is there a way to boost the performance of Opera in terms of memory/speed?
A. Yes, this cab will force Sense to unload when launching Opera, allowing for better performance while browsing. (When exiting Opera, Sense will then reload) (thanks to Scabes24 for this one)
Code:
[URL="http://www.megaupload.com/?d=O5O1RE97"]Enable Opera Max Memory Tweak.cab[/URL]
Q. I've installed the Opera tweak and everything is working fine, but the page loading seems very slow. Is there a way to improve this?
A. Yes you can, the following registry tweak will enable almost instantaneous web page loading in the web browser. It apparently enables wireless N mode but seems to work with cellular data too. Go to:
HKLM/Comm/BCMSDDHD1/Parms
11nModeDisable = Change from 1 to 0 (thanks to Scabes24 for this one aswell)
Q. My wifi hotspot uses EAP certification and i can't use it because the phone gives me a certificate verification failure error. What can i do?
This was posted in the energy rom thread
NRG, after weeks of not being able to connect to my work wireless network because I was getting a "certificate is from an unknown authority" error, I finally got it working. Can you add this key to your ROMs?
[\HKLM\Comm\EAP\Extension\25\]
"ValidateServerCert"=dword:00000000
This is where I found the answer:

The FAQ
Q. Will you include xyz tweak for me?
A. Only if it's a common one or one that i haven't thought of
Q. I use xyz program and i want to have the config file included in your great collection. What do ya' say?
A. See above but you could always spend 10 minutes tracking it down and then creating a folder in copy2root for it
Q. Why is the bluetooth identity the only tweak for BT you include?
A. Because everyones setup and hardware is far too different for it to be worth it. Also, Although you can export the pairings importing them may not be possible due to the way the bluetooth security protocols work.
(More To Come)
Happy to try this, thank you for cobbling everything together.
wow
this would be so handy, i hate spending time making your phone how you like it. I don't flash as often because i get too comfortable with the current configuration.
thanx M3PH
btw: without NRGZ28 i would have sold my HD2 7 months ago

No worries. I did it because i was getting annoyed with spending ages setting everything up and even more annoyed with people not reading the energy rom FAQ properly (i'm guilty of that too). I used the pre-release version last night after flashing the latest energy rom and it saved me in the region of an hour to an hour and a half. It's not perfect by a long way. Things like the sms led notification is enabled and some people may not like that but is is easily reverted with bsb tweaks.
My plans for the next version is to have all the reg files converted in to cab files for they can be removed and i'll tidy up the readme a bit.
One thing i would like help with though is the FAQ. Can the first few people take notes of any problems or questions they have and things or that nature.
Thanks everybody
Thank you, I'll try it out with the new Energy release. I'd be happy with the reg files to import it doesn't even need to be a cab!
Thanks!

Cab files are better because they can be removed and Reg files can't. So if one of these files causes a problem your stuck and that's why it's labeled as alpha software. Also labelling it as that will scare off the less experienced users from trying it and doing themselves a mischief.
V0.2 will be all cab files as far as possible but don't expect a release until 0.1 has had a thorough real world testing.
oh. it is better ,if i find this post eight hour ago.
it drives me nuts ,everytime i get into a new nrg rom.
thank you very much.
Great idea man, thank you so much for this!
Thanks a lot for this! It will definitely save me a lot of time after a rom update. I just have to hope I've set them up correctly and dont break something

My temptation would be to assume that the FAQ is written for me if I can install and get it working anyone can. For instance in the wifi detailing where the various parm's can be found would make it much easier to install. Very happy to install on what you have and pass back any questions assumptions.
As I frequently flash(ROM's only) I can help with refining the documentation.

Sweet, thanks. That is exactly the sort of thing i'm looking for, because it's been over a year since i did any kind of manual writting i'm pretty rusty. It also doesn't i developed most of the parts in just over 24 hours working on my phone and not my pc everything is a bit scattered in my mind. That's the reason why the readme looks the way it does. It all came out in a bit of a splurge.
The wifi script is one of my older scripts and it took 3 attempts to get right and now i can't for the life of me find the resource on ms technet that i used.
I'll probably have a sitdown over the weekend and have a rerun through the readme and make it a bit more detailed. If i can make it as easy to install as possible then the faq won't be such an important thing
How many people want me to include a coreplayer config.xml in the next version? i've got one that works perfectly with myplayer and turbo3d.
Nice Work
I used a number of these to flash the latest Energy Rom and it worked out great. Very smooth! It will be interesting to see what is added on in the future. Thank you for putting the time in and starting a new thread.

Very interesting sir!
I am going to flash the new Energy ROM either tonight or tomorrow and so will chuck this in with it.
I wont use several of them as I dont use those aspects, but those I do will return with feedback.
I have been frustrated with this as well.... fingers crossed.
