[ROM] Cyanogen 3.9.11.2 for 32a [Upd. Aug. 16th] - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

I managed to port Cyanogen's latest revision (3.9.11.2) over to 32a. Thought I would share with everyone. This has Global Search, pretty cool stuff, and is working perfectly on my Rogers Magic.
You can find the original thread here; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=539744
Thanks to all the terrific XDA developers for sharing; Cyanogen, Amon_RA, hakyuro, bcrook, and on and on...

Cheers!

thanks 'strider. you mod it any?

Just curious. I ported it too, but didn't manage to make WiFi to work.... I'm pretty sure I replaced wlan.ko on update.zip and also tried to push it manually to no avail! It just tried to obtain IP address forever...

I have wifi working and busybox installed. I made no other modifications. I've been running it for a day with no problems.

I may have gotten lucky, I tried a few different wlan.ko files before I found one that worked. you can try the one from this build, and see if you have any better luck.

Thx for the rom

Thanks will try out the Rom as well

Merged with bcrook's porting thread
Instead having multiple CyanogenMod porting threads for 32a, bcrook and I have decided to merge the two. You can find bcrook's thread here;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544854 where he's linked to my port, and has the history of all his previous ports.
Thanks.

will this work with zinx exploit flash tool on 32A with Perfect 10 SPL?

I haven't tried it... but I've read the zinx exploit does not work with 32a boards.

Paul,
What did you change to get Compcache working? I'm already running 3.9.5 on my 32B and don't really want to reflash just for the sake of being able to push a couple of modified files
Cheers
So this is with cyno 3.9.5 kernel right?
i think i can read better than you
What's the difference between this port and the jerpelea (or something) port?
isnt this the same as jerpleas port?
Same as Jerpelas and all the other 'ports' that use the trick I found of renaming init.trout.rc in boot.img to init.sapphire.rc.
I've asked a couple of the devs to include this file by default to avoid the plethora of threads here that are just dream roms which pretty much anyone can get running in a couple of minutes.
At the moment the 'real' development work is mainly in the dream forum, lucky for 32b owners they run perfectly 32A, wait for the ports
Waiting for the Drizzy/JAC new hero port tonight - it's meant to be damn fast, and they think they can get it to 'cupcake' speeds
re: posts above...
Correct, it's using Cyanogen's kernel (hence compcache functions correctly).
Correct, it's for 32B.
Correct, it's using a tweaked boot.img with a renamed RC.
I think it's a valid post because not everyone has the ability / time / inclination to download the ROM, extract the boot.img, rename the file, rebuild the boot.img and then resign the resulting zip.
As always, I created this for my own use and thought i'd share!
I also have asked Cyanogen (via Twitter) to include a sapphire.rc in future revisions. Here's hoping!

I think that with this ROM, libwebcore.so from CM3.6.8.1 and the Noverca Audio*.csv files, I can actually use my Magic for what it's supposed to be used for!

Splendid! Thanks so much. Do you plan on continuing support of Cyan roms?
Thanks Modaco,
all the apps and the cache, to ext3 partition. Good rom. Wifi runs ok , it goes so fast. For me, the most important advantage, the apps and the cache, to sd!.
Thanks guy
compcache is working, wifi wont start.
I'm pretty sure that jerpelea had to get a different wlan.ko for it to work on his.
This just keeps looping on the Android splash screen. Is it because I am using Amon_Ra's 1.2 recovery???
I am using 1.2 and had no troubles.
Just WiFi wont start.
I have tried replacing it with the wlan.ko from jerpelea's rom.
It doesnt like it.

I dont get it! I had similar problems with newer Cyanogen build than what I am on. Also the QTek rom does the same.
It seems to me that any ported ROMs which all you supposedly need to do is run 'update.zip' fail with a boot loop for me.
I don't know why it's only with ported ROMs though..... It's driving me mad!!!

[ROM][32a] CyanogenMod Port < 4.1.11.1 Only[update Oct 6]

****This thread is now only for the 4.1.xx series of cyanogen ROMs. For the newer versions, please see the thread by Radix999 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=568032
Please keep in mind that the port files from Radix's thread will likely work fine on these versions. If not, I may use the updated kernels to make 4.1.xx compliant kernel packages. We'll see.

New Process to Port Cyangen ROMs
*************************************************************************************
Use CyanogenMod Updater to download the Dream/32B ROM
Choose either Apply Now or Apply Later as per the onscreen instructions
When the new ROM has been applied, apply the signed-cyan-32a-port_v4.x.x.zip below to port to 32A
Done
--OR --
Download the most recent Cyanogen ROM (either experimental or stable)
Push it to your SD card
Download the newest port-update from below (ie. signed-cyan-32a-port_v4.x.x.zip or rad-4.1.11.1-kernel etc)
Push it to your SD card
Reboot into recovery
Apply Cyanogen ROM
Apply signed-cyan-32a-port_v4.x.x.zip
Reboot and enjoy
This update.zip contains the files that are updated with a ROM is ported from 32B -> 32A (wlan.ko, kernel, AudioPara4.csv, etc)
This should work on ANY cyanogen ROM. The only required updates will be if the kernel is updated (even then this should continue to work).
This update.zip could easily be made to use a more universal kernel (not cyanogen specific) and could be used to port any 32B ROM.
All kernels are courtesy of TigerTael and Cyanogen.

I was thinking about trying this out myself, it's a good thing someone with more knowledge did it before me
Anyway, is Wi-Fi working fine? I tried the latest CyanogenMod port for the 32A (3.6.8.1) and Wi-Fi didn't work, it just stayed at "Obtaining IP Address" and nothing else.

It worked for me. I know one person who tried it reported that they were having issues with obtaining an IP. I do not have the issues though.
I am not see touch input chinese?
Interested to know if wlan actually works.
I've made several ports of dream roms (including cyanogen's) myself using the same instructions, but each time wifi will see AP, can connect.. but never gets an ip and comes up 'Connection unsuccessful' then keeps retrying.
I've tried a couple of your older ports that you posted in threads too bcrook and had the same issues.

Yes, I had that issue with 3.9.6. It seems that it was fixed in 3.9.7...
since all enhancements are lost, does that basically mean its a normal rom but rooted?
With the exception that it has the bleeding edge donut and community additions and the usual cyanogen enhancements. We can't take advantage of the kernel, but we can at least take advantage of the latest apps he's compiled for us.
I'll give it a try and post back here if I have any issues.

Surely better off just building an update.zip package with those files in it - would be pretty easy to do it that way I thought. Then the chinese users could simply apply that update after any rom install and they'd have their CIME.

I added in the HTC keyboard, some wallpapers from the Palm Pre theme, ringtones from cupcake, etc. I also pushed wlan.ko, AudioPara4.csv and busybox.
I have tested this on my Rogers Magic and everything I can think of is working. No compcache, swap, etc because it uses the regular Magic kernel not the customized one used in the Dream ROM.

Not yet . I'm currently testing the other ROM he ported. WG-Build Y-2.6. It's running fine so far.
Seems to work well. Flashed no problem, phone works, wifi works. Well done.
Thanks a whole bunch for this port! I installed The official Rogers 1.5 ROM to get my 3G connection back and I tried cursorsense (which is a fine ROM but I just hate the Sense UI... I don't know it just feels gimmicky! and let's be honest 1.5 looks kind of dated) So I'm glad there's a port for the 6.35 radio, that way I don't have to revert back to the older radio.
will be flashing it soon! Thanks again!
What makes this port different from a 32A port like ahmgsk's ones? I know they are for different radios. What is different in the code?

Yup, GPS not working, otherwise it seems very stable. I noticed that SuperD1.7 was released today. Do you (Phil_McRevis) need to make an updated port or is it safe to flash 1.7 and your port straight after? I really need a stable Donut for version 6 radios...

No immediate plans, but (and I'm happy to be corrected) radio compatibility is a ROM issue rather than a kernel issue. I'd expect it'd require a matching RIL from a device that uses the new radio, like a hero or something?
Thank you very much for porting KiNgxKxlicK AOSP 2.1 [v1.4] for HTC Magic (32B). I'm using this ROM in my G1 and is incredible fast and stable
Just one question, is necessary any special SPL for 32A?
Keep up the good job

I'm not sure either, but I think it's like any other port: boot+kernel+libs, etc. At least I just installed [ROM][32A RADIO 6.35] SuperD 1.6 - 24/01/2010 and all I did was flash the default ROM from 32B boards [48Mb] + Phil_McRevis Port file [2Mb] and all is working well

I need the new radio 32A port
can't sign into my google account..
this is a major problem and I have no idea what could be causing it
every time it just says "you don't have a network connection"
even though I do..
though on the plus side, facebook sync seems to be working but I can't tell as I don't currently have any contacts to sync(no google account)
wifi, 3g, gps and bluetooth are working of course
though the phone isn't recognizing any of the buttons on my headset
not sure if that's an issue with the rom or not
live wallpapers don't seem to be working for me
some of them move, some don't
but none of them respond to touch
the addition of the weather/news widget and the "clock" app is nice
why are we not seeing the new launcher yet though?
also, any word on getting the browser, gallery and maps from the update for the N1 today?
it would be really nice if someone could post those somewhere..
correction
signing into google in the settings didn't work
sigining into google from gmail didn't work
signing into google from the market did work!
hooray!
but now I see that facebook sync really isn't working..
we love you apacheo

No. Read author signature:

It would if King changed his rom to include the new RIL etc.
Radio compatibility isn't determined by the kernel - it's determined by other things, so my port doesn't affect it - its up to the rom cook to determine that.

They're broke in virtually every eclair rom. That ain't news.
man, how long does this first boot take? I've been watching the boot animation loop for the last 25 minutes...

Usually it takes about 2-3 minutes. Is the boot animation freezing for a second or two? If so, you need to reinstall it.
Make sure you have the SPL and Radio from my signature. You can also find there the port I've made (with Magic Port ) for King 1.4 and it works very well for me!
this rom works great! the only thing i can complain about is that there is no full exchange support. would be great if i could access my exchange calendar. possible for a motoapps add on like what amgsk did previously?

Yeah, I shortened the filenames so I could tell what I was installing and it works now.
all my apps are back even though I did a factory reset before installing the ROM. Cool.... but Market Enabler won't install for some reason
The rom works great and fast!
Thanks for the port!!! =)

Do a quick google for MotoCAL.apk - that'll give you exchange calendaring. As for including it in the rom, let Kingklick92 know (use his twitter - twitter.com/kingklick92) and he might include it in the next release.
Thanks for the port!!! =)

[KERNEL][MT3G 1.2/LE Fender] CyanogenMod 4.2.15.1 kernel patch *PROPER*

Here's the kernel for CyanogenMod 4.2.15.1.
THIS UPDATE.ZIP WILL ONLY WORK WITH STOCK CYANOGENMOD 4.2.15.1
Please install STOCK CyanogenMod 4.2.15.1, then install this update using the recovery image.
This kernel is exactly the same as Cyanogen's, except it has support for the myTouch 3G 1.2 / LE Fender, and a fix for some memory corruption that caused system crashes on that phone.
UPDATED 2010-05-01
Remapped some of the I/O memory to an address outside of vmalloc (stability)
Updated the binder patch
UPDATED PATCH ONLY 2010-05-02
Accuracy correction for the binder patch commit message, no code affected.
UPDATED 2010-05-03
Fixed zone alignment (stability)
This updates fixes the last crashing bug that I have reports for.
update.zip (also attached): http://zenthought.org/tmp/kernel-cm-4.2.15.1-mt3g_3.5mm-118.zip
kernel patch (for developers only, against cyanogen's 2.6.29-donut): http://zenthought.org/tmp/android-msm-2.6.29-donut-from-zinx-20100503.zip
My paypal is chriszenthought.org.
Great job!
Downloading now...flashing soon!
Not a Port
For some confused, this is not a port, this is not one of those roms with drivers cooked and hacked out of the stock boot image. This is an actual kernel update adding actual support for the MT3G 3.5mm hardware, as such CM's full kernel features should work just like they would on a G1/Dream or Magic 32B.

you did, he accidentally posted the 5.0.7 patch, but titled it 4.2.15.1, so he changed the content to match the title and created a new thread for 5.0.7

nice, I thought I was going nuts there for a minute...I checked my d/l and it said it was 5.0.7
Once I saw it changed, I downloaded it again from the new thread just to be sure.

Heh.....I thought there was something odd going on.
Updated with some stability fixes, see first post for latest version.
1. Root myTouch 3G 1.2 (goldcard, etc.)
2. Just follow regular myTouch 3G instructions at
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_G1/Dream/Magic32A_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod
3. Right after flashing Cyanogen Mod 4.2.15.1, flash this kernel update without restarting in between.
Is that all correct?

Mostly, except do make sure you flash DRC83_defanged_base.zip before CM 4.2.15.1. You'll have messed up Google apps otherwise, which may lead to stuff not working / "reboots" (system_server crashes) / etc.
Fixed the remaining known crash bugs in #118 (2010-05-03).
is that complete bug free kernel in the op.

Indeed it is, let us know how it goes if you try it.
Do remember that it's for stock CyanogenMod 4.2.15.1 and may not work properly with other ports of CM to the mt3g 1.2/fender.

mic issue
Hey guys,
I'm pretty new to this but I've invested about 12 hours of reading before even touching this phone, the mytouch 3g 1.2. I used Unlockr's guide to root
theunlockr.com/2010/03/11/how-to-root-the-mytouch-1-2-and-fender-mytouch
and instead of flashing the custom fender rom, went straight to:
DRC83_base_defanged.zip
update-cm-4.2.15.1-signed.zip
kernel-cm-4.2.15.1-mt3g_3.5mm-118.zip
through the amon ra recovery after wiping data and dalvik. After, everything was working great, no issues at all. Then I flashed
CM-4215_CHM_BinaryRelease+AdvLaunch.zip
and it flashed over great but now I seem to have a mic issue as the person on the other line is having a real hard time hearing me. I re-flashed all roms after another wipe minus binary's theme and the problem persists. I also followed this troubleshoot:
androidforums.com/all-things-root-mytouch/59744-mic-not-working-properly-after-rooting.html
which didn't help. Any idea's?

Sadly, I don't know enough about the MT3G 1.2/LE Fender to know if this is in the kernel or userspace. I do know my kernel patch for 2.6.29-donut vs. 2.6.33-ds is identical. This is a little hard for me to track down without a device

Did you try replacing the /system/etc/Audio*.csv files as suggested on http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-mytouch/60310-mic-issues-mytouch-running-superd-roms.html?

Yeah, I did that initially to no apparent effect
I re-flashed again and now all seems well. Not sure what happened, as i did a wipe both times.
Anyways, many thanks to zinx for all his hard work
