Howdy!
I'm trying to make a cabinet file that first deletes some files and then creates some. Creating the files isn't hard at all, but I'm having some troubles deleting them.
I've created (tested and working) an xml which deletes the things I need to be gone.
Do I understand correctly that adding a _setup.xml to the cabinet, and putting it in "%installdir%" should make it run before installing the rest? I tried that, but for some reason it doesn't seem to work. I'm using OCP's WinCE cab manager.
Any help would be appreciated!
Can anyone shed some light on this?
Last bump for hope and glory.

I have an edited htchomesettings.xml that i want to put on my jade.
Everytime i try to drag 'n drop this file into my windows folder, i get the 'acced denied, be sure the file isn't read-only, in use or that you have enough space left'-error.
When looking at the file's properties (with Resco or total commander) it seems to be fixed in the Rom and i think that's the reason i can't overwrite it.
I already googled it and found some topics concerning this problem, and generally they all give the same advice:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2736263&postcount=500
the problem is, i already used both programs, and apparently it does not seem to work, or i'm doing it wrong or i'm overlooking something...
So, can anyony tell me how to overwrite this file with total commander or resco, if this is possible.
Many thanks, and sorry if this is a stupid question, i searched the web for about 3 hours before asking you guys .
It's a little easier than that. The only thing you need to do is make sure that the plugin is not running. In other words, deactivate the plugin in the Settings menu. Then, do a soft reset, just to make sure that the system has stopped using it. Then you can copy and paste with any program that you like. I have found that using a PC (via ActiveSync) works best. Good luck!!
Thanks for the quick reply thunder.
Unfortunately, it did not work out. I deactivated TouchFlo already (and did the reset). And still it gives me the same error.
"Cannot copy HtcHomeSettings. Make sure your device has sufficient memory, that the file is not set as read-only, and that you have permission to copy this file type"
This time I simply used Active sync as you told me.
Again, does it have something to do with the fact that this file is hardcoded on the rom?

Click to collapse
Unfortunately, if it is built into the rom, you will probably have a hard time copying over it. Have you tried to edit the file directly on the phone? I believe that there are a few xml editors for ppc floating out there, you could try that. Also, is there anything in particular that you want to do that requires you to modify the xml? Reason I am asking is because you could use M2D Customizer if you are only looking into modifying some settings. Hope this helps...
Allright, found out how to overwrite it!
Made a .m2dct file containing my preferred theme and settings, then i edited the included HtcHomeSettings.xml file.
Then i used the M2D customizer to load the .2mdct file, and that worked perfectly.
Thanks for the hint, Thunder!
Hello! I've created this nice little XML file to remove certain files and directories. It's meant to be user-friendly, so I'd like to CAB it up, instead of leaving it as an XML, which needs to be imported manually.
I've got WINCE CAB manager, and I've worked a lot with it, creating CABs for all sorts of apps.
I've tried using my XML file as a "Pre XML", "Post XML" and included it as _setup.xml. None of those methods made it work!
How should I do it instead?
On a sidenote, is it possible to disable a certain running task, using a CAB? I'd think that would be done using a custom DLL, which is too much for me to make.
Thanks in advance!
Hi guys. My TD2 seems to have stopped recognising zip files - or at least doesn't know what to do with them anymore.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Peace, Chris
How about "Pocketrar"? It's free!
Also "Total Commander", which is not only a better file manager than the standard one, but natively supports zip files, has a simple text editor, allows registry editing etc etc.
If you want to repair a broken file type association, like zip, quite a few simple configuration programs will do this.
Ok guys, thanks for those suggestions. I'm curious as to how the association got broken in the first place.
Have heard good things about Total Commander, will give it a shot.
Cheers.
Firstly apologies for the noob question, I'm still very new to this WinMo stuff. And secondly I've searched about the forum all day but still having problems....
I've just got an HD2 and wanting to put some of the tweaks on it I've found via this site. When downloaded on my PC I'm faced with 4 or so files, two or three perhaps starting with a 'cab' file name and the other a reg or set up file. Basically what do I then do with these files? With the phone conected via USB I went into the deice memory and dropped all the files into the memory, did a soft reset, but nothing happened, no extra feature etc. Phone just started up as normal. Sorry for my 'thickness' lol. Would welcome any advice or a pointer to somewhere where it may be already written.
Thanks.
Do not unzip the .cab place on phone and browse phone with File Explorer, click on the .cab and install to Device....
It's a common noob mistake as .cab's are compressed archives so look like .zips on computer....
Thanks for the quick reply, I'll give that a go....
after dropping them on the device you have to run them. Open File Explorer and just launch them from there. A setup will be launched usually.
Thanks for the above advice, worked a treat.
Well I've had no problem putting cab files onto my HD2, however now I want to remove a few of them. Not sure how to remove the actual thing that I've changed??? I go into the device memory and I can delete the cab itself but the 'change' still remains, such as new task bar icons etc.
Any help appreciated....
settings -> add remove programs
just like on a computer
Oh yes of course, makes sense now. Many thanks
Hi All,
I need a little help in understanding something, either by explaination, or by directing me toa webpage, but everything I found really doesnt explain it.
I used 3 tools to extract a HTC ROM Leo, I used: NBHExtract, IMGFS utility (NBSpilt etc.) then used Package-tool to create the folders OEM and SYS, and now I'm stuck.
What I want to know is how do i go about making a cab file of something so I can install it? for example like the Messaging App. In the OEM folder it has two folders, one says for ex: HTCMessaging, the other says the same thing with .0409 on the end.
How would I go about being able to cab the messaging system files, registry etc, and cab it?
Thanks a million for any help.
Anyone? Or did I post in the wrong forum?
<Bump> sorry but I am still searching, I have been reading and reading for the last 12 hours and nothing is pointing me to a solution, let me clarify one thing. I am not wanting to know how to make a cab file, I know how to do that.
What I am trying to find out is how does one go about sorting in the example the HTC Messaging App and all the files needed to be installed into a cab, obviously 2 folders doesnt complete it, I know that possibly contacts, and appointments apps have to be put into the cab, but How would I go about finding out all the files needed to the appointment app, all the files needed for the contact app, and all the files needed for the Messaging App, so I could cab them individually and install them to test on a spare TP2 phone, I am not trying to flash it. I want to cab it so if it doesnt work or is unstable, I can uninstall it from the remove programs.
Anyone? I even tried New Visual Kitchen, but it crashes during the building of packages after the extraction process of the ROM.
