[Question] Mac Address - General Questions and Answers

mac address wont be change if i flashed anykind of ROM?

Youn can't change MAC address flashing ROMs: It's Hardware coded. You could "change" MAC address in SO to bypass the problem but not on the real HW MAC.

[Q] Wifi MAC address changed, or missing!?

My wireless has a MAC filter enabled.
I installed the EOS ROM that had a bug issue about wifi... My wifi wasn't working, however I could see the SSID. I then installed another ROM and now the WIFI service hangs when starting. I happened to look into "About Tablet" and see that the wifi did not have a MAC address! I reflashed a few times, formatted all the partitions, but still no MAC address. I reflashed the EOS ROM and now the wifi works, but wouldn't connect. I looked at the MAC address and was comparing it to the ones on the filter and noticed it wasn't listed in there.
I am beginning the EOS ROM somehow nuked my MAC address or something, and the ROM may have one baked into it. That's the only thing that makes sense since I have no idea how the MAC address would just suddenly change.
I need help fixing my TF101's wifi MAC so I can use another ROM that's more stable...
I did not check this when I was running the Team EOS ROM but I did notice that my router was not serving my proper IP address per the MAC Address. I did not think to check it there, but I flashed back to Revolver 4 beta 1.3.1 and my MAC address is back to where it should be.
But, obviously Team EOS ROM did change my MAC address if my router gave it a random IP address.
I think I can explain this, give me a few minutes.

wifi driver is reading nvram from /system/etc/nvram_nh615.txt (/system/etc/wifi/bcm4329.cal in TeamEOS Builds) which has no mac address defined.
the solution is to make the driver read it from /data/misc/wifi/nvram.txt and use wifimacwriter to write the real mac to that file
It's already fixed in my CM9 build

Cheers, it will be fixed in the next nightly.
Edit: What am I missing? I don't have /data/misc/wifi/nvram.txt unless I run a stock rom
I think I found my problem. wifimacwriter looks for /system/etc/nvram_nh615.txt
so my /system/etc/wifi/bcm4329.cal needs to be changed in my configs.

[Q] wifi change mac adress

Firt, Great site very helpfull. Sorry my english.
I need to change my wifi mac adress on my huawei u8180 with ROM CyanogenMod 7.2.0-RC0 U8160 (thx is great).
I have try to change/modify nvram.txt but no good
Also try with software :

-Set MAC adress : cant read mac adress
both don´t ask root right.
Any idea?
I need to change my mac address too, no spoofing, something permanent.
I don't know why my i9003 mac address changes always i flash a new ROM...
Now i don't have problems with the wifi, but if i flash to XXLE4 (the latest ROM for i9003) my mac changes and lose wifi connection (appears disconnect always)

1. Yes, you can change MAC address (for example if you install CM or MIUI your MAC addresses will be changed). But I don't know how to do it (There are several applications but they don't work for some reasons)
2. I don't think that it's unlegal because it's easy to change it on PC, and the our device is already small PC.
It's unlegal to change IMEI.

LOL! Do you know that MAC can be changed very easy? look this and here Unfortunatelly those scripts doesn't work on our device
Also when you flash CM7/MIUI/CM9/MIUI2 the MAC became 08:00:28:12:03:58 (yes 1 MAC for every owner's of i9003 that flashed those ROMs). This happens because Samsung put the same MAC into hardware and change it manually in their stock ROMs.
BTW, if you flash back the stock ROM, the MAC address will return to Samsung one
PS: If you don't know the subject don't try to teach somebody: he can know more than you.

I know only 2 types of cafe WiFi policy:
1. WiFi under the password: The device can't receive IP address at all. And the customer should ask the password from waiter.
2. Free WiFi: The device can register with WiFi network and can get IP address. But all http requests are redirected to special page where customer should put the password and click button (or there is just button without passphrase).
Also I don't think your MAC is blocked
BTW try to change the MAC with the following command:
su
busybox ifconfig tiwlan0 hw ether 00:11:22:33:44:55

Yup, the first Wi-Fi policy is the same, but the 2 isn't.This Wi-Fi is popular in many cafes in my country, guest just have to obtain the IP address and doesn't redirect to another page.
I tried your following command but is said command not found after the last command (or i did the wrong way ^^! )
p/s: sorry for the bad English =]]

How to change wifi MAC address?

need help here, does anyone here knows how to change change the mac address of wifi.?
the wifi mac addreess of my su760 has change after upgrading to ICS. then after reverting back to gingerbread, it changed again, good thing i write down the original mac address but i don't know how to change it permanently.
hope someone could advice.
The information is kept in mmcblk0p3, you'll have to dump it, find the current mac address using a hex editor and overwrite it with your original mac address then dd it back.

Pandaball, does your Wi-Fi and Bluetooth happen to still work on your p920? Either way could you possibly pm me a dump of your mmcblk0p3? I need to try to get my Wi-Fi and Bluetooth working again.

This doesn't work. Any of changers doesnt work. I even tried changing it with terminal. It seems like nvram is somehow hardcoded in the device
i could not find any solution either. Indeed i have lost my imei numbers during rooting my device. now i can not use my device. Can anyone provide his backup files NVRAM/NVDATA etc for me. Thanks in advance
