Software or mod for turning off the upper list in the display when answer or calling on the phone. Every time i press my ear against the phone an annoying "message" menu appears, and i must close it after answer/talking. Anyone ?
Message menu?
Or are U referring to the notifications list? Coz that's what I get most of the time..
Same here....
Can't find anything at the moment.
I just hit the power button to turn off the screen.

Turn phone on, press black "windows" bar at top, from center and to left. Then you got a "message" meny.
i installed that touch incall screen tweak app to turn the screen off when i put it to my ear but it isnt quick enough and still brings up the notification menu, may i suggest surgery and getting the top of you ear cut off?

Hi there,
I have the following little prob with my Polaris:
whenever I make a call the display will go dark after a couple secs (which by itself isn't bad). However, seems like the polaris enters the standby-mode after acouple more secs, since I won't be able to touch the display to bring it up again-instead I will have to press the green or red button. This is a little annoying since I'm not able to easily access, e.g., the contacts during a call or press a key to, say, delete a message when checking my voicemails.
Any suggestions on how to tackle this?
Thanx
Two things you can do:
When you are in a call you can always press the power button and the screen will switch back on giving you access to all your applications and contacts, etc..
Better solution is to install the Backlite application. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=360657
This will stop the backlight switching off during a call. Works fine for me.

Yap, I knew about the power button but think hitting this one is a little annoying, too. What I'd aktually like is that - during a call - the display IS indeed turned off or at least dimmed down to very dark in order to safe battery. However, I'd like it to stay touch-sensitive and come back on if I touch it. Will the Backlite application do this for me?
Thanx again!

I think the point of making the screen "non touch-sensitive" during a call is that it is easy to touch it with your face during a call and you could end up disconnecting the call or doing other unexpected things.

Greetings all.
Does anyone know of a good way of locking the screen while making a phone call? I've tried proximity sensor, which does not work on my phone. I currently have my time out setting at 15 seconds, but that does not work either. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm sick of face dialing/hanging up.
Proximity sensor does not work at all for me, either. I have been begging and begging people on the forum to help come up with a way to remove or disable the huge "End call" button, as I am constantly hanging up on people with my face.
It is the number one suckiest thing about my Hero right now.
oh, i am looking for this kind of software but found nothing
Probably one of the best "answer/hang up" functions I saw was with SIPdroid. Slide up to answer, slide down to hang up. Of course, the data service is not good enough to always use that though.....
I put the notification bar down down, but it seems almost buggy, sometimes the notification bar stays down and sometimes it just moves up by itself again.
Hit the home button to get out of the dialer window...

And, then, enjoy the vibrations as you move your homescreen icons around with your face.
Why is there so much resistance to figuring out how to either lock the screen during a call or just disable or remove the stupid soft "End call" button?
Is it significantly more difficult than changing the button color or creating a ROM?

Home button is cool if you happen to only touch the end call button and never anything else. I personally called a friend and sent 4 blank texts to someone, don't ask me how....
Home button will cause as many problems. Notification bar coming down is the best way I've found....
an even better way. hold the menu button down.
the keyboard is a great shield.

I will try that one. Seems like it could work, thanks.
Well, google is my friend, i don't know why I doubted ye...
Screen Suite does it for me. The app is $1.99, but it has a setting where it automatically locks the screen on calls.
A bluetooth headset negates that problem completely......

How do you like it? I found it and it seemed kind of bloated with a lot of features I don't need. Does it eat up memory/power?
I am interested....
I don't get why you guys are having so many issues with this, my phone screen locks at the default of 30s when in calls, it has done this as long as I have had the phone.

Mine usually does. Unless it thinks I'm pressing things with my face, which keeps it awake.
That is... if my face doesn't end the call by the time the 30 seconds is up. My guess? It's probably the shape of our faces?
I just try to hold the bottom part of the screen away from my face. Once the screen turns off I've never hung up on someone.

Hmm another good one! Any keyboard presses do anything nasty? I'm on swype but I wonder if hitting the mic button on the hacked keyboard would do anything annoying.
Thanks for the tip!
My main problem is when my wife calls, and wants to talk to my son. His face is a lot smaller, and well, everything get screwed up when he uses the phone. As for the program, it does have a lot of features, but all I did was have it set to auto-lock on phone calls. I still have my default vanilla lock screen.
Lack of a both a proximity sensor and dedicated screen-off button is this phone's single unforgivable flaw.
I will never again buy a touchscreen device without at least one of these.
I found Tedd's Droid Tools today. It has two features:
1) offers an alternative way to answer the phone when it is locked (use camera button or a long tap screen button)
2) In-Call Screen Guard
Quote from the developer:
I wrote this for my wife whose hair messes with the proximity sensor that shuts offyour screen during calls causing accidental hangups, mutes, etc. About 3 seconds after answering a call (or starting a new one) a screen will pop up over the normal in call screen which has a button in the center you can long press to exit out with. When the screen goes dark, the screen guard will restart as long as you are still in a call.

There is an issue with the current version causing the screen lock to display right after the alternate answer screen appears. For those who have an issue with the slide/stretch to answer on your Backflip I tried this out and it answered every time (about ten tests). I had to hit the menu key and then either the camera key or the on-screen button the app adds.
The extra protective screen may be useful for those who have a problem with the proximity sensor not working as designed for you. The developer mentions that his wife's hair gives the one on her phone fits.
perfect on my xperia... even if you have it closed it's autolaunched :S works perfect although it's not replacing the sony ericsson call screen but adding some buttons

Yeah - it presents it's option as an overlay to the stock answer screen.
On your phone does it cause the screen lock (not the pattern lock or pin lock) to pop up?

You need to enable palm rejection in system setting, not s-note settings

I totally agree, mutlitasking bar and even more the Quikpanel popping out very very often are very very annoying.
Multitasking bar keeps coming even with no apps in it, what's the point of this bar anyway as you get a button that brings you all the openned apps at the bottom left of the screen.
But what bothers me most is the Quick Panel, drives me crazy !
Sure, there's palm rejection, but when thinking of what to write next, I don't think of keeping the pen close enough to the screen and bam the quikpanel pops up, hate it.
I love this tablet, it's fantastic, handwriting to text is amazing,
but why on earth did they put the quick panel on the bottom right right where 90% users put their writing hand,
Menues have allways been on the left in Windows, MacOs, in all softwares, why change ??!!
Can't it be deactivated ?
Lefties are lucky.

Thanks buddy, at least some one shares the same concern, I am surprised that no responses from the expert developers so far on this forum. I wish they can reach this to the Samsung guys......and before that help to come up with a work around.
Use GMD s-pen control. You can enable palm rejection from there.

I just purchased a OnePlus6 and so far so good. Have two questions.
1) How to mute my side of a call so others on the call do not hear my dogs barking in the background? I can find the notification alert slider button but that is not what I want to do.
2) How do I put a call on speaker so I can just hold the phone and not use ear buds or hold the phone to my ear?

Make a call and you are presented with the options as per screenshot.
How can you seriously not find these settings when they are clearly on the call screen?
@dgunn you don't have to be mean, I was also perplexed after calling a conference call number and entering my code. The keypad covered half the screen and hid those settings that are supposedly "clearly" on the screen. Dismissing the keypad by tapping the "x" on the top right side made it go away and the settings appeared again.

It's not mean when there is a screenshot that clearly shows the mute button. Perhaps if he had mentioned the keyboard covering half of the screen and or provided a screenshot of this doing so he would have gotten a different answer.
