Rogers Magic (32A) dropping 3G/HSDPA data connection - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

I've had my HTC Magic from Rogers (32A) for about 3 weeks now. I live in the US but no matter WHAT ROM I use the connection keeps disconnecting.
So the way it happens is that I start the phone, all is fine. I can browse then a few minutes later I cannot ping nor browse it seems as the data connection just dies. It still shows H at the top of the screen with the outgoing arrow stuck as if data is being sent out. Sometimes though it would be either incoming nor out coming.
I've tried the HoFo ROM, Stock Rogers Rom, Hero Roms, and all of them have the same issue. I've tried playing with the APN settings but they all seem correct. I'm also running Haykuro's SPL with the latest radio version. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Did you flash the radio? If you did I believe thats your issue.

I thought I did but im still running 3.22.20.17. What happens if I downgrade to the 2.22.19.26I? I know that 2.22.19.26I is for 32B and I have 32A, but does it matter if I flash that radio or will I brick my phone?

Flashing radio wont brick the phone, worst case you wont be able to make calls or do anything radio related.

Well I cant flash the radio with the older version because it doesnt support the 3G US bands. I thought I might re-flash the 3.22.20.17 since its been doing it with the stock ROM also.
Can someone please link me to a copy of that radio file because I have been going nuts looking for it? Thanks!

NOTE TO ANYONE WHO READS THIS AND IS THE SAME SITUATION:
Do not try to flash your Rogers Magic with an older radio or you will have a brick as I now do.

Uk T-mobile original SPL / Radio

Hello this is my first post.
I have recently been trying out various WM6.1 roms and now have the issue where I can only use GSM (G3 and HSPDA just don't work)
I have tried various radios and downgrading to a reconstructed stock rom. However nothing seems to work. From reading other threads it seems to be a hardware issue, so I need to restore it back to the original settings for repair.
I have the original OS on now, but need to now put back on the original radio and SPL version; however I don't know which versions these are. Also I have a custom start screen so need to go back to the original T-mobile one as well. Any help on how to do this would be appreciated.
Thanks.
I had a problem like you aswell; after upgradig my sound just went away, even after installing the radio. What I did was flash my TYTN2 with the official 6.1 rom (radio included). It's in of the threads, I don't think it'll take you too long to find it =)
Hope that helps!
I have tried various combinations of the original (6.1 and T-mobile) roms and radios and nothing seems to work.
I think that one of the radio roms may have fried my G3/HSPDA chip. GSM works fine but I bought the phone for hi speed data and now can't use it. If any one knows a software fix for this it would be billiant. However at the moment I think I will have to wait until T-mobile bring out a rom so I can restore the SPL & splash screen from that. (hope that wont be to long)
Any other suggestions welcome as I will try anything to get this problem sorted.

Radio 1.27.12.11 should work fine
How did this finish? Have you sent back your device or did you have it working? Did you find, if yes, where did you find the SPL and Splash screen?
Let me know, thanks in advance!
I decided to wait until the new T-mobile rom came out with proper SPL / Radio, and just stick with GSM.
I couldn't find either the proper SPL or splash screen. I think these need to be extracted from a proper T-mobile ROM.
However after 4 days G3/HSPDA just started working again. I didn't change the rom or radio (just stuck with Sluth's WM6.1). I must conclude that it was something to do with T-mobiles network settings that they resolved.

Flashed different radio - Lost HSUPA - can't get it back [FIXED]

i am at a total loss here.
I was on CM7 with the stock AT&T radio and HSUPA was working just fine.
I then tried to flash another radio (The Telus one) and i lost HSUPA.
I checked the build.prop and it is still showing that HSUPA is enabled.
I tried flashing back to the AT&T stock radio and HSUPA is STILL disabled...
Anyone know how to re-enable this?
I am completely puzzled here.
edit: this is fixed. see solution HERE

Try flashing a different rom and see if that will work. I would try stock rooted.
Thanks but there has to be another way.
I font understand why flashing a radio (Telus, i even tried a euro radio), would disabled HSUPA from nowhere and the radio is completely ignoring the build.prop file which has HSUPA enabled.
By searching i saw another user had this problem but no solution was posted.
I had to ruu to stock and rerun the hack kit.

THIS!!!!
I had to do the same. I searched and tried everything. I am afraid the only way is to reflash to stock and start all over again. And don't flash any other radios. I have read so many radio threads looking for the solution and most everybody I see worldwide is getting the best results with the stock AT&T radio.

I guess that's what i'll have to do.
Is there a specific way i need to flash the radio in order no to lose HSUPA?
I simply used fastboot.
I do see other people on this forum who successfully flashed a different radio.
How did they do it?
There is no better radio for the inspire than the stock one. It has no hsupa limitations built in or nonspecific kernel issues, unlike the captivate. Don't flash any other radios, simple solution.

Is there a way to check which radio we have? What is the identifier of stock radio?
Not sure exactly what happens but something gets screwed up somewhere.
Originally I used the Hackerize kit and flashed the original radio. Instead of flashing a Sense rom, I went straight to CM7. Everything was perfect except I did not have HSUPA no matter what I tried. I tried multiple radios and editing build.prop. Nothing worked.
This second time, I used Hackerize again. This time I took the extra steps to flash one of attn1s cooked roms. I booted that and made sure I had HSUPA before moving forward. Then I installed CM7 again and now I have HSUPA. My uploads are faster than my downloads in my area.
OK here is the deal:
1) I RUU back to stock
2) Ran the hack kit again except for the last step i never flashed back to the at&t radio as this is what is causing the problem.
3) I then tested by flashing like 4 different radios (NONE FROM AT&T) and never lost HSUPA again.i flashed 3 euro radio and 1 from Telus both on euro stock firmware and CM7.
There is something with the at&t radio that once you flash it - something gets messed up when you flash another radio.

I've flashed the stock radio and the M2 radio back and forth and back. I've never had problems with HSUPA. I just did a speedtest to make sure because I'm back on stock radio and it is 1542down/1347up.
The stock radio sounds HORRIBLE... there isnt a better way to increase call quality???? Everything sounds so raspy.

Is the audio quality in the radio? I thought it was in the rom. I would have guessed reception quality would be in the radio. Related but not the same

Before you flashed back to stock, did you flash the radio back to the stck ATT radio or when I flash back to the stock ruu, it changes the radio back to the ATT radio?

Thanks man! This solves my problem, the only thing is all I did was open the hacker tools and pull out the down graded radio.img and flash it then let it reboot fully then just flash whatever radio to want and you get hsupa again on the modem if your choice. Hope this helps someone.

When you guys get HSUPA back, how do you know? Are you checking Menu>Settings>About Phone>Network>Mobile network type?
I've tried everything but this to get HSUPA and I can never get HSUPA to show as the network type. I'm nervous about flashing a new radio because it sounds like I need Eng S-Off to flash a radio and it seems there is a greater risk of bricking my phone if I screw it up than just with the radio s-off.

How I know if I have it or not is when I run a speed test, if my average upload speeds in 3G or "H" are less than 1 mb/s, I do this by using the speedtest.net app.

[Q] Desire S loosing signal

Hi all,
A week ago I bought a brand new Desire S and installed latest CM 7.1 stable following the guide on cyanogemod Desire S Wiki using revolutionary 0.4pre4. Everything was smooth and nice, I flashed ROM and GAPPS and my phone is working absolutely perfectly... but there is one little problem...
I am using Desire to fetch my mails from 2 mailservers using IMAP every 30 mins. But when the phone is switching between network modes i.e. HSDPA -> EDGE or EDGE -> GSM or any other way, I am disconnected from operator network for about 10 seconds until the network mode changes and everything is fine after that, until there is another network mode switch.
This happens for me about 10 times a day, so my phone sometimes appears that It is turned off for people who want to call me. Immediately after connecting to network I get a missed call SMS from my operator.
Interesting thing is, that when I disable email fetching, disable background data transfer and disable network data, the phone works fine without "blackouts".
Can someone help me with this problem? Maybe a radio issue?
Some more info:
ROM: Cyanogenmod 7.1.0 Desire S
Recovery: Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4
HBOOT: 6.98.1002
Kernel: 2.6.35.14-cyanogenmod+ [email protected] #1
Radio: 20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03_M
There is a newer radio-file online.
Maybe it's solving your problem.
I'm using MIUI and never had such problems, but i'm interested in flashing CM, so please report if the problem is gone by flashing newer radio!
Which radio version are you using?
Today I am testing 2G only switch so I am on EDGE data only.
Flashing radios is safe......, but a bad radio flash will instantly brick your phone.
You are using 1.47.401.4 radio, try updating to the 2.10.401.5 one.
Thanks for reply.
Shoud I flash something else with the radio?
I have 20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04 downloaded from cmw.22aaf3.com
Another I have is ftom OTA update zip file OTA_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.8-1.47.401.4_release_225210fmxlt12djw1sr7y5.zip where is one radio.img in formware.zip file too - version unknown
So Which one to flash?
and if so, which method should I use to flash radio? The Android SDK one or the ZIP + Bootloader one?

Strangely I had the same issues as you on Endymion.
Then I updated radio to the latest.
It worked well.
Then I went to CM7. It was fine for a while, but now I'm losing signal with no 3G bars and its not switching automatically to 2G like it should when It has no 3G signal!
EDIT:
After really reading your post, I realise my issue is no way like yours! Yours seems really bad. Update your radio.

No, the cover is at its place where it should be. Somehow I did the trick and I am back online with 20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03 on 2G only for now.
I read somwhere in the forum that ENG HBOOT is required for new radios... Are you sure I dont need to flash eng hboot it before new radio ??

may you have to set automatic settings, rather than 3g/2g-only?!

using same hboot as you, never had problems on flashing radio-files!
yes, in my area there is 3g, when I turn off 2g only switch there is a problem described in my first post, so i am on 2g for now just to keep phone connected to network.
main problem is when i am driving and the phone is switching network modes.
so I give 20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04 today another chance, try to flash if again.
but i am woried about stucking on HTC logo after flash :-( and brick it.

i already had the problem for several times, and i also pulled out the battery (you shouldn't do that)!
only had to boot into bootloader, start recovery, wipe all partitions, flash rom and was having fun again with my device
this thread could help you, if really stuck on HTC logo
For your real problem on loosing the signal, did you ever tried out using actual stock rom, or another custom one like MIUI?
i used MIUI from 2010-08 till yesterday, now trying out CM7.1 for some days
I have the same or a very similar problem. I have the stock rom.
I already had 3 different desire s motherboard's and 2 different display's.
The first Desire S i had, with android 2.3.3, had a excellent signal. Due some problems i had, the phone bricked and had to go to HTC to repair.
HTC replaced the motherboard and update the version of the android to 2.3.5 and ever since the signal caption, the signal switch was working very bad.
The phone went to a second repair because of this, new phone, and again with android 2.3.5. The problems persisted.
I also tested with different SIM cards, from different mobile operators.
So, my conclusion is either android 2.3.5 or this new versions of Desire S have problems with signal caption and signal switch.
So as you, i need some help with this issue!

i hate stock roms, and dont like MIUI design That is why I am using Cyanogen
Anyway if I use 2G only switch, the phone is stable as rock both calls and data transfer.

@MyroLM:
report if the problem is still there or it's gone with flashing the rom
I am still testing new radio, but looks good Give me some days let you know...
Hi All,
I have a similar problem with the latest CM7.1 nightly builds (Reaper, jorgen2009). I never saw this with older CM7.1 versions, e.g. Nexx version, ICS, MIUI oder Endymion.
I have WLAN on and leave my house. Phone switches to 2G/3G..., so far so good. When I return home, The WLan sign in the status bar appears again, everything seems to be fine, but I have no connection. I get no data via WLan until I swicth WLan off and on again.
Radio is the latest from 2.10.401.5.
Best Regards
Wrapp
Had similar problems, upgrading to the latest radio helped. I got stuck on the HTC screen and I went through flashing RUU's and unlocking bootloaders back and forth... when the only thing that needs to be done is to wipe the cache.
Learned a lot about bootloaders though. But my warranty got void because i did the htcdev unlock... (Sorry for OT)

[Q] Flashed radio and no 3g or 4g

So I decided to start playing with different radio, dish, and ril settings yesterday. I was running 3.32.501 (t-mobile ics firmware), ARHD 6.6.5, 11.69A radio (Dish2), all my data speeds were working fine.
I decided to flash the 11.72 radio. Once i did i got no 3g or 4G data speeds only 2G. Someone recommended that i check my mobile data settings and switch to WCDMA which i did, but this had no effect at all.
So my question is this...for the 11.72 radio do i need to have the 3.32.401 firmware? Does anyone know what happened?
I did flash back to the 11.69A radio and everything is fine again.
Some radios will require different firmwares and the RILs must be from the same Android version. As in, GB ril won't work in ICS.

yeah ive been posting in there, but i figured i would start a new post, bc i didnt want to clutter that thread with all my questions
SO just to update, i decided it might be my tmobile 3.32.531 firmware causing the issue, so i flashed the 3.32.401, 11.72 radio and ril 0017 (mismatch) and all data speeds were back.
So unless im missing something the tmobile 3.32.501 firmware may not be compatible with other radios (except the tmobile one, 11.69A), or there is a setting (in build.prop?) not set correctly.
Also I have used the tmobile firmware with other rils without any immediate data impact.

Firmware/Radio MAJOR Issue

Hi all, kind of a newbie, but I've been rooting phones for a few years and have never had this issue. I wanted to upgrade my ROM to Maximus HD 10 and that was a big mistake because it involved going to SuperCID and S-Off. I was successful with both, but I ended up uninstalling due to not getting 3G/4G. Well, plenty of uninstalling and trying new ROMS and still I am left with 2G only. I have flashed the latest T-Mobile US Radio but it doesn't seem to do anything. I'm thinking it is a firmware issue, so I was wondering if there is a firmware I need to flash and do I need to fastboot flash it or recovery flash it? I am tempted to call T-Mobile and just order a new phone in the first place, but I would really like to have 3G/4G back. What firmware do I need and also does installing a new RUU overwrite the CID, firmware, and radio? I would love to back to the T-Mobile CID and the stock rom. Please help, thanks!!!
Keep soff and flash tmob ruu. All ruu contains firmware.zip, so if you flash tmob ruu you will downgrade your hboot and radio. Also make sure you'll wipe sd card from bootloader after ruu.

I have drop signal issues, 3g and 4g seems normal but lose complete signal constantly.
i had home button issue when signal drops from 3g to 2g. home button activates itself sometimes when browsing internet and often drop action to homescreen. that must be radio related. and sometimes stock browser loose connection while chrome works. got tired of these things and everything all working perfectly when going back to Viper roms. any ideas ?
