Can anyone recommend a good backup utility (or approach) for the touch/raphael? Just got my fuze a few days ago and I'm starting to tinker.. would like to backup before i break it..
I'm primarily looking for contacts right now but I"m sure I'll want to backup everything at some point
Thanks,

This is a great little app for all winmo devices, its called XML Backup, best of all, its free. If you, like a lot of other people here at XDA, like trying new ROMs and apps that cause you to hard reset, then this app is for you!
Install the cab. find it in your programs list, start the app and then it will ask you if you want to back up or restore. For first time users, back-up your contacts list to your memory card (as so it won't get erased), you must press destination folder! Create a folder called "Phone Back-up" or what ever you want to call it, go back to your XML Back-up app, back-up your contacts to the newly created folder, press select all, then start! You're done! Now you can re-flash to your hearts content and never have to worry about losing all contacts again!
Even better PPC PIM Backup, this does all your messages as well as contacts.
Personally, I don't see a need for saving messages. If anything, being able to save 300+ contacts is enough for me! But, PPC Back-up PIM is a really good app aswell, my preference lies in XML Contacts
For me its the ability to retain SMS conversations over a ROM flash that means i have gone the way i have. My contacts are saved on-line anyway as I have a mail2web acount that does OTA sync of all the PIM data.
Just remembered PIM Backup also does your calendar, which again i don't need, see above, but others might.
I'm not going to dispute the fact that there are but apps for PIM back-up! I have tried some of them, but, XML is simple and easy! 'm sure as you know, the more stuff you keep on your phone, the more memory it uses and seeing as how I enjoy having as much free memory as possible, just keeping my contacts backed-up is fine!
For the newb's and the faint of heart, XML is a lot easier to work with and my personal choice for PIM back-up!

try vufone.com - syncs contacts, calendar, messages, pictures, videos and music to the web.
Rafi
Dashwire does the same thing, but, it can also send text msgs from your pc/laptop for free! I tried it out for a bit, decent app, but, stays active in the backround, therefore, killing your battery!
I switch roms pretty often and get a bit tired of having to set up my email accounts every time (I have 2 which I use most often and 2 which I don't use that much but would be nice to add).
Is there a tool/way to backup these email accounts and restore them? I use pimbackup for my PIM data and even though it can restore mails it has to have the accounts already created.
I bought SPB Backup (50% discount was nice ) but also read about problems with backup and restoring between different roms.
So basically, I'm wondering if there's a way to backup and restore the email accounts?
mate, i've used SPB backup for over a year now,
with my HD, and the thousands of flashes,
i used it to back up my HD to move everything over the my HD2,
and i'm using it very often now on my HD2,
and i've never had ANY problems, with restoring at ANY time
i recommend you try SBP Backup,
since you payed for it....
I'm new to Sprite Backup, and not sure how it saves my sms. In custom backup there is only an option for email. where can i find my sms?
thx for help,
uxu
No one an idea ?
I haven't worked it out either so I use MyPhone to back up SMSs. That doesn't save MMSs though.

i use myphone too, but i don't realy like to have all the stuff online. According to the sprite backup website it saves sms, so why isn't there an easy way to show them ?
Thought I'd posted a reply here but now a little later I can't see it - well I am 64! Just in case I'll replay again (but damned if I know what I did witht eh earlier one!) I much simpler way I've found for maintaining backup and restore of SMS, appts etc is pimbackup - free download from here:

Recommended if you haven't seen it.
Thank you. I will take a look at PIM Backup. Otherwise, i like Sprite Backup. Hopefully someone knows where are sms stored
I did a bit of reading on this and SMSs are stored in pim.vol from what I understand.

that's a beginning. thanks
I've found SMS data in the file \My Documents\SMS.MSGS.xml on my HD2 as well. This file doesn't exist on my older Windows Mobile phone.
I'm just blundering around and don't have any particular expertise with Windows Mobile, but, as you say, it's a start. I've been looking for a way to selectively back up and restore SMSs, and in particular, MMSs for a while now. The best I've come up with so far is MyPhone, but it doesn't save MMSs; nor is it likely to according to the Microsoft MyPhone forum.

Mh, i didn't have that file.
searched the net and different sites say that the pim.vol is a database which stores contacts and stuff like that, but not the sms
SMS.MSGS.xml isn't hidden on my HD2 but it's worth checking.
The more I look into this, the more confused I get. Searching through my device I've found text from my SMSs in a number of places. SKTools is useful for browsing the databases on a device. In addition to the above, I have SMS data in cemail.vol. I suspect that this is the default store and that Pocket Informant and HTC's own application muddy the water. At least I'm able to back my SMSs up, even if I can't selectively restore them with Sprite Backup.
Hi,
If installing a new rom wipes all data, when will we have a backup apps like the titanium Backup for Android????
Windows sinc is cool to restore the contacts but doesn't restore emails and apps
Emails should generally be left on the server (by default the phone only caches them for a few weeks anyhow) but yes, the app data is an issue. There's supposedly a good backup app coming, but I've yet to see it in any way other than a teaser screenshot so I can't tell you how close it is to readiness. There are other backup options, but (while I've never used Titanium Backup and therefore can't compare it) none of the currently-published ones are *really* easy.

where did you see the screenshot???
having done this exercise recently let me tell you of my experience:
1. i had a a backup in zune, incase i wanted to return
2. switched to Tango based rom, used SMSbackup to restore. Though it restored the text messages it kinda screws up the contact list and e-mail accounts. Currently, not stable and fixed. Known issue.
3. Zune backup restore didn't happen, got 801812E0 error and got screwed
4. Though you will lose your saved games, achievements will be there. You can look into using WP7 root data and use it to backup data. I had backed whatsapp messages through this method.
Moved To WP7 Q&A
Please do not post questions in the development section

Is SMSBackup a built-in app for the computer, the phone or does it have to be downloaded from the Marketplace? I really want to be able to backup my SMS messages.
Yeah, I just installed a custom rom and I was under the impression that Zune does a backup and when you re-connect, it will restore at least some things. hahaha. No way. Then I found out that the restore will only restore your phone after it does a software update through Zune. I am used to WebOS, which was great in restoring almost everything over the air.
Hope we get a good backup soon.
But, does anyone know if there is a place on the local computer that would have at least the Internet shortcuts from WP? I looked under some of the Zune folders but didn't see anything.
Dear people,
I'm using Endymion Rom but I'm thinking about upgrading to ICS.
What is the best way to backup my apps? Titanium backup?
Kind regards,
n0elite
Yup, titanium backup.
Yup, TitaniumBackup will definitely do the trick!
One thing though; when jumping roms, it could be a good idea to use some other app for the sms backup. Titanium sometimes have trouble restoring those cross platforms, at least that's my experience.
I use MyBackup (free version works fine) to backup sms, mms and call log.
Good luck with your ics-flashing!
[edit] I presume you have a Google (gmail) account?
If so, then just use that calendar and it will sync automatic (if you want) as soon as you add the account to your phone.
Same goes for the contacts.
I'm also in the same boat thinking about backing up in prep for ICS.
myphoneexplorer is a really good app for backing up contact, sms, calander data, etc. It does it over wifi and I use this regularly.
I've got Titainuim but still not got to grips on the correct way to use it. Anyone got any tips?
i use ES File Expoler now, and i think it very easy to use back up file and apps sorry my bad english
ES file explorer or Rom toolbox is a good one free versionwill backup apps to restore back, used it from runnydroid4 to endyminon 3.5 no probs at all
Sent from my HTC Desire S using Tapatalk
I use Titanium Backup and I'm really satisfied with this app.
Two days ago I switch vom CM7 to CM9 and restored all needed Apps with TB.
es/astro will back up the APPs, but if u wan back up the DATA i suggest titanium.
the best is google sync.
