Backup all configuration files automatically / Restore uppon reflashing - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

Aaaah, another backup??? WHY? Read why before downloading this one, running and deleting afterwards without knowing.
why1: after re-flashing device, all setting files will be imported automatically into device.
with autobackup switched ON and even better with my another script (papustomize),
you will have your old settings after reflashing without pressing a button
why2: it’s simple & plaint. You can combine using script or file explorer for manual copying, deleting, adding of files and folders.
Not running difficult backup programs and re-selecting which files to keep backup of..
You can select individual files or whole folder structures to be backuped/restored
why3 (not yet I want to add the same for program’s registry values of course. It would be why3. (backuping and restoring saved regs)
..meantime only papustomize is parsing saved registry entries, but backup of them is not done automatically. Read notes in “papustomize.mscr” on how to prepare reg files for parsing.
Papustomize is using dotfred’s taskmanager for parsing registry. You need to have this in windows folder with name "\Windows\TaskMgr-fdc.exe"
or change location and name of it in papustomize.mscr

How it works?
Packup will backup files, folders or complete folder structures from device
which you manually once copied into specified backup folder on SD card.
There is no backup list, all files which you once manually copied to backup folder
will be always backuped.
Files have to be in corresponding directory structure. e.g. put \Windows\saveme.cfg file
in Storage Card\data\backupFolder\Windows\saveme.cfg
* if there is a file named packup.all in any folder inside BACKUP path, it will
Be backuping ALL files and folders from that level up
* for using OEM version you will probably want to set your own default backup path and settings right into script files. There are notes inside them on how to do it. Eventualy, put your folder in rgu
I am using version of Mortscript 4.2 – it’s included in cabs but not in OEM downloads. May not work with older ones.
MortScript is great project and all Glory and $ for using scripts with Mortscript must go to Mortscript program author: (c) Mirko Schenk [email protected] http://www.sto-helit.de
----
There is other app in OEM package, automatic light chnger for day/night,
you can find description and cab in general kaiser forum.
Hints and bugs welcome

will try it soon and give a feedback
thanks for this nice utilities...

Looks good, will give it a try! Thx

What is the difference with this one:

Activesync restore

Today I lost all the data on my phone.. no problem I thought, I shall do a restore using my backup activesync makes every time i plug my phone in, so all is fine and dandy. When it gets about half way through the restoration, activesync crashes (always at the same point). It is during processing a file called fldr1001dd8.
This means I cannot fully restore my device - very annoying!!
Can anyone help with this... can I make it so it skips errors instead of crashing? Any help at all appreciated!! Device is a Blue Angel, using ActiveSync 4.1
You want to download a free utility called STGViewer - this utility allows you to examine the contents of the backup file activesync creates so you can identify which data you want restored. If there is a corrupt file then you can decide not to restore that particular one but retrieve everything else.
Thankyou so much, I will try that!!
OK I have found it, but I cant work out how to delete a file from the archive with it. All it seems able to do is 'copy' files out of the archive :-(
Any tips?
You cannot delete individual files from the .stg file but the program does allow you to restore selected folders and files. So you can restore Program Files folder all at once - if that works then restore My Documents folder and so on.
You may find that by restoring individually there may not be any corrupt files. But if there are, then you just select everything else except the corrupted file - you can use drag and highlight to speed things up. A little bit tedious but at least you can get all your files back from a bad .stg file.
BTW, the file you mentioned is in Pegasus Databases which are system files
Have you used the program yourself Ian? If so could you please help me with the restore folder button.. when I select a folder, then the restore folder option on the menu, nothing happens. This is very frustrating!
Also, when I extract the files from the pegasus database and put them on the phone, the pegasus folder shows in the phone's file manager (obviously, because I just put it there). How do I restore them to the (presumably hidden) folder, where they are meant to be?
I appreciate all help on this matter, all I need back are my contacts, appointments and message data etc, the rest I can start afresh with.
No I have not used this to restore an entire phone, only to retrieve individual files. It does sound like you will need to start afresh and just use STGViewer to recover personal files from My Documents etc. Most installed programs in Program Files will work fine if restored via STGViewer- there is often no need to actually use an installation program as many programs work as standalone folders.
If you have synced with your PC previously, all your contacts, notes and messages will be in Microsoft Outlook so you can use Activesync to restore these back onto your phone. (assuming you had opted to sync these items)
I would suggest in future that you use Xbackup in the Programs folder to regularly save your contacts/notes data into permanent Storage. I also from time to time make a copy of my .stg file so that I do not need to start anew if my current .stg file is corrupted. Good luck!

How to... copy/move files stored in a Smartphone ROM?

I can't copy or move files stored in device ROM.
I've tried with Resco Explorer and Total Commander, but without success.
I didn't understand if there's a registry hack that allows these operations.
I've notice (or so it seemed to me) that I was able to substitute/copy/move some files having the ROM attribute, but many others not (eg: I've tried to copy the nleddrvr_sec.dll, obviously without success, otherwise I'd post this here!).
Surfing in many forums, I read many others asking for the same thing, unfortunately I haven't seen answers to their question about this.
Hope someone explains to me how to do or why is impossible to do.

You can not copy / move / delete files in ROM. Thats the point of "Read Only Memory"
These files are not stored as individual files but are in fact packed in a special way as part of the device image which can only be written (flashed) by special tools.
If you want to extract OS files you need to use a ROM dump tool.
I suggest you look in the WiKi.
What you can do is overwrite one or more "ROM files". What will happen in reality is that a copy of the file with the same name will be placed in storage memory and the system will go there. If you hard reset your device or rename the file it will go back to the original file.

As you said here and here (Changing Files in Windows Dir )
it's impossible to move/copy ROM files, just overwrite 'em.
Doing so the system looking for these overwritten copies.
So now the question are:
- there's a registry entry that points to this substitute ROM files?
- to modify an existent file resident in ROM I MUST dump my ROM or another one same or similar?
Mersì bo q, anyway.

install a clean rom, or customize your own. the windows directory is going to be a little large regardless, the operating system is there..
what is the normal size of windows folder
any how can i customize my room to remove and add new applications
That's basically what got this community started... just about everyone here can testify to having looked into ROM Cooking... please research before asking how to do it, because I PROMISE there's a thread or two out there about it
Clean windows folder possible ?
I'm trying to cook my own rom but when I add an EXT module, all files are in Windows directory and the app.dat file only copy them in the app directory.
So is it realy possible to have a clean windows directory, how to put files directly in app folder? must I use an OEM module with initflashfile or ???
thanks all

All files go into \windows. The first thing you need to ask is this: do I need to copy the file into another directory, like \program files? A lot of apps work just fine if you leave all of the files in \windows. The files are going to be in \windows in one form or another, so you save space by just running the app out of \windows. You need to change shortcut paths and sometimes registry key paths to get this to work, but in my experience, it works about 95% of the time. Usually, if you've got a multi-component application (several files besides just the .exe), the .exe will search for other files it needs to run in the same directory that the .exe is located in, so you're good to go if everything is in \windows. Some apps have sub-folders, so you'll have to get that folder and its contents into \windows. The best way to do this is with a .cab file or a zip file during customization (using a mortscript for the latter). Zip files are nice, because they install really quickly and are easy to make and edit.
Anyway, if you need to get files into another directory for whatever reason, I'd say that the app.dat method is probably the worst, because if you have multiple files, then you increase the file count in \windows by that amount. Put them in a zip file or a cab file, and then you'll reduce the file count to 1 for the particular package. You will also compress the files, and save some rom storage space.
You can also look into \extendir for another method to clean up the \windows directory.
You do need to be careful with some apps if they have an .ini file or an .xml file or something similar that is basically a settings file. It's usually better if these files aren't read only, so you may need to figure a way to copy the file into the \windows directory.

HTC application copying files from rom to storage

After every hard reset and during the first boot there is an application running in the background that copies some files (f.e. Opera9.exe, Copilot, GoogleMaps, wallpapers etc.) from rom (these files originally reside in Windows folder) to storage memory, creating a double copy of these files.
Does anyone know the name of that application and if it is possible to run it without a hard reset?
Thank you
Edit:It must be RunCC.
Does anyone know how could I reactivate the customization process without a hard reset?
I'd like to know how to get rid of it, why do we need two copies!!!
You can get rid of the files that are in the same directory, like Opera9.exe and OperaL.exe.
You can also move googlemaps and Copilot to storage card.
But you can not get rid of the image files, ringtones etc that are copied from \Windows to another folder.
The reason why I am asking for this, is because if we manage to activate the customization application without hard reset then it will be possible to restore an old backup file without losing any new features offered by the rom upgrade.
This could be done as following
1) Backup (f.e. with SPB backup or Sprite backup) before upgrading
2) Upgrade the rom
3) After completing the upgrade install Resco Registry
4) Export the entire registry from the upgraded rom
5) Restore the backup file
6) Import the previously exported registry. In this way you overwrite any keys that should be changed during the rom upgrade.
7) Finally if you manage to run the customization again you will restore all the double files that can not be deleted..
(Opera9.exe and OperaL.exe can be activated by simply removing the files from the \Windows folder and thus activating the rom files)

[App]~Visual UC V1.0 Beta~Upgrade from XDA_UC

Introduction
Visual UC is a small script based on MortScript. With it you can backup and restore your own settings easily. It can Automatically install cab files, import reg or xml files, copy files to destined directory and restore your PIM after a hard reset. This is similar to XDA_UC.However,it also provide a visual method to do this.Another feature is that you can use it to backup files, registries and PIM.
Functions
1.Install CAB files to device
2.Install CAB files to SD card(Not test on wm6.5)
3.Import and export REG files
4.Configure XML or PROVXML files
5.Copy files to Start Menu,StartUp and Windows
6.Define operation to restore or backup files
7.Restore and backup pim.vol
8.Auto restore if your ROM contain Visual UC as a package
9.Auo backup your defined operations
10.Support extra language pack(Now only WWE and CHS available.Hope your help for translation)
Installations
1.Unzip the file to \Storage Card\My Document\Visual UC .VUC.mscr and ES.mscr must be placed in the root of Visual UC.
2.Use DotTaskMgr in Copy 2 Windows to import VUC.reg.
3.Copy all the files in Copy 2 Windows to \Windows.
How To Use
1.Folder Explanations
●Cabs for cab files. If you want to install them to storage, put them into "Storage".But I advised you don't do this, because sometimes it need you manually complete the task.
●Files for the files you want to copy. The subfolder name is the destined folder you want to copy to.
●PIM for PIM.VOL
●Regs for registry files. The regs in subfolder will be imported after a hard reset when the rom you use contain Visual UC as a package.
●Xmls for xml or provxml files.
2.Auto BackUp or Restore
●Auto Restore will conduct all the operations that is enabled in settings of Auto Restore
●Auto BackUp is disabled by default, you can use Add To Auto to include the operation in Auto BackUp.
3.Define Operations
●In BackUp Files or Define in Copy Files.Select Add to start an item.A name will be asked to input for the item firstly.Secondly, you can choose Select File to select the source file or Select Folder to select the source folder(Caution: All the files including subfolders will be copyed).Thirdly, select the target folder which the files are copyed to,you will be asked whether to create a subfolder to contain the source files(Do it and name the folder after source folder if the source folder is a program that you want to copy it to \Program Files).
●In BackUp Regs,a name is also required at first.Secondly, you can choose Select to select the path of a registry key(Cautionue to MortScript's max number of an array. In HKCR,some of the keys can not be displayed and DONE button is missed) or Input to input the key path(main key must be selected first and no "[]" in the path).Thirdly, choose the target folder for the registry files(Regs folder is recomended for later restore)
●You can rename, modify, delete the item.If you add the item to auto,it will be conducted in auto restore or backup.
4.Option
●In Change Path you can change the path of CAB REG FILE or XML folder, but I recommend the default Path.
●You can backup, restore or reset VUC settings in the Option. The backup file is named visual uc.reg and located in the root of Visual UC,the file will be imported first when it Autorun after a hard reset.
Extra Script Introduction
1.Auto BackUp.mscr can automatically backup files registries and PIM.VOL .However, you should define them first.
2.Load VUC.mscr is used to load VUC.mscr and run it to silently restore after you flashed a ROM that contain Load VUC.mscr.You must put Visual UC folder in either of the three path:\Storage Card\,\Storage Card\My Documents\,\Storage Card\Program Files\.
3.Cook.mscr.You can modify it or rename your own script to the name. The script will be run in auto restore.
4.ES.mscr is a component of Visual UC.It show the process of Auto BackUp or Auto Restore.
Credit
My thanks go to Mirko who develop MortScript which makes my script possible,Noonski whose XDA_UC inspires me and help me to solve lots of problems and Dotfred whose TaskMgr is a very powerful tool(the script use it to import or export registry files and Config provxml files).
If you want to donate, you can donate them.
Statements
You can freely use and modify the script. But I take no responsibility to the data lose the script may bring to you.MortScript and DotTaskMgr are also free software, before you use it you should read their legal statements first.
This is a beta version. So there may be some bugs. You can post the bugs on XDA or just send me an E-mail to let me know.I will be appreciate if you tell me your advice.
